central indicator light© • or I'll also

If the centra l indicator light © turns on, pay
attention to the additional information in the
instrument cluster display @and @.
In addition to the indicator lights in the dis­
p lay, there are others located inside the tach­
ometer and the speedometer. They blink or
turn on to display additional funct ions or mal­
functions. Messages@ may also appear brief­
ly with some indicator lights. A warning tone
sounds at the same time .
If there is more than one malfunction, the in­
d icator lights will turn on one after the other
for a short time.
The indicator lights and messages in the dis­
p lay can be replaced by other displays. If the
indicator light@ is rep laced, the central indi­
cator light © remains on until the malfunc­
tion is corrected.
The messages can be displayed again in the
driver information system

ation.
Overview
Some indicator lights turn on briefly as a func­
tion check when you switch the ignition on.
These systems are marked with a./ in the fol­
l owing tab les. If one of these indicator lights
does not turn on, there is a ma lfunction in
that system .
Depending on the vehicle equ ipment, your ve­
hicle has either a monochrome or mu ltico lor
display in the instrument cluster. In a mono­
chrome display, the indicator lights@only appear
in white

mi also turns on to in­
dicate the pr iority of these indicator lights.
Refer to the explanations for red or yellow in­
dicator lights.

els) brake system indicato r light turns on
together with the ABS and ESC indicator
lights, the ABS/ESC regulating function
may have failed . Functions that stabilize
the vehicle are no longer avai lab le . This
could cause the vehicle to swerve, which

slide. Drive carefully to the nearest author­

and decorations on clothing s uch as belt
buckles can scratch the pai nt.

- The wind defle ctor works best when al l
of the windows are ro lled up wh ile driv ­
ing.
- Only store the wind deflector in the stor ­
age bag* when it is dry.

operation
General information
The power top can be closed manually if there
is a malfun ction.

15 seconds to reduce the pressure in the

Only close the power top manually in an emer­
gency . Have a second person assist. Drive to

Service Facility immediately to have the ma l­
function corrected.
A WARNING
- There is a r isk of pinching the hands or
other peop le during all of the power top
emergency operation steps.
- Make sure all windows are lowe red d ur­
ing eme rgency ope ration .
- Do no t rea ch into t he power top sup­
po rts or other mov ing components .
- Never d rive when the powe r top is not
loc ked correctly. The w ind from dr iving
could cause the power top to open. This
can result in injuries and damage to the
vehicle.

The powe r top storage compartmen t cover
i s not latched afte r the emergency opera ­
tion is complete . Drive to an a uthorized

The electromechanical parking brake replaces
the hand brake.

Your veh icle is eq uipped with an electrome­
chanical parking brake. The parking brake is
designed to prevent the vehicle from rolling unintentionally and replaces the hand brake.
I n addition to the normal functions of a tradi­
tional hand brake, the electromechanical parking brake provides various convenience
and safety functions.
When starting from a stop
- T he integral hill start assist helps you when
dr iving by automatically releasing the park­
ing brake ~
page 83, Starting from a
stop .
-When starting on inclines, the hill start as­
sist prevents the vehicle from unintentional­
l y rolling back. The braking force of the
parking brake is not released until sufficient driving force has been built up at the
wheels.
Emergency brake function
An emergency braking functions ensu res that
the vehicle can be slowed down even if the
normal brakes fail~ page 84, Emergency
braking function.
_.&. WARNING
- Do not press the accelerator pedal inad­
vertently when the vehicle is stationary
and the engine is running and a gear is
selected. Otherwise the vehicle will start
to move immediately and could result in
a crash .
- If the power supply fails, the released
parking brake can no longer engage . In
this case, park the vehicle on leve l
g round and secure it by placing these­
lecto r lever in the P position. See an au­
thorized Audi dealer or authorized Audi
Service Facility for assistance.

- If driver's door is opened while the igni­
tion is switched on, the park ing brake
sets automatically. This prevents unin­
tended rolling of the vehicle.

A WARNING
-Always take the vehicle key with you when leaving the veh icle, even for a
short per iod of t ime. This applies partic­
u larly when ch ild ren remain in the vehi ­
cl e. Otherwise chi ld ren could sta rt the
engine, re lease the par king brake or op ­
erate electrical eq uipment such as powe r
w indows, which increases the risk of an
acc ident.
- No one sho uld remain in the vehicle
when it is locked, especia lly children.
Locked doors make it more diffic ult for
emergency workers to get into the vehi­
cle, which puts lives at risk.

The start assist function ensures that the
parking brake is released automatically upon starting .
Stopping and setting the parking brake

When sta rting on incl ines, the hill start assist
prevents the vehicle from un intent ionally roll­
