Speak clearly and dist inct ly at a normal volume.
Speak louder when driving faster .
E mphasi ze the words in the commands even ly
and do not leave long pauses.
Close the doors, the windows and the sunroof* to reduce background noise . Make sure t hat passen ­
gers are not speaking when you are giving a voice
command.
Do not direct the vents toward the hands -free mi ­
crophone, which is in the roof headliner near the
front interior lights.

It may take longer to

cator lights that turn on in the vehicle be­
cause of the information in the status report.

Car Finder
Applies to: vehicles with Audi connect e-tron services
The vehicle collects data under certain conditions
and sends it to a server .
When data is stored, you can access values such
as these us ing the service:
- Vehicle location disp lay,
- Display of one's own location,
- Ro ute to your veh icle.
If your mobile device also has a nav igation func­
tion, you can navigate to your last know n parking
locat ion.
@ Tips
- The new parking location cannot be deter­
mined with this service if the vehicle is
moved after shutt ing the veh icle
off and
wi thout sw itching the ign ition on and
off
again, for example when be ing towed o r if
the vehicle is stolen .
- If the vehicle is moved an d shut

parking location is t ransmitted to the server
after switching the ignition off .

Charging

You can control and access the hig h-voltage bat ­
tery c harging proc ess r emotely using these serv ­
i ces. You have the following options:
- check the battery charge leve l,
- star t/end t he cha rging process,
- prog ram the charging t imer with/w itho ut cl i-
mate cont rol,
- deactivate/activate the cha rg in g timer .

-Pointing the steering wheel toward your
face decreases the ability of the supplemen­
tal driver's airbag to protect you in a colli­ sion.
- Always sit in an upright position and never
lean against or place any part of your body
too close to the area where the airbags are
located.
- Before driving, always adjust the front seats
properly and make sure that all passengers
are properly restrained.
- For adjustable head restraints : before driv­
ing, always also adjust the head restraints
properly.
- Never adjust the seats while the vehicle is moving . Your seat may move unexpectedly
and you could lose control of the vehicle.
- Never drive with the backrest reclined or
tilted far back! The farther the backrests are
tilted back, the greater the risk of injury due
to incorrect positioning of the safety belt
and improper seating position.
- Children must always ride in child seats

Proper seating position for the front
passenger
The proper front passenger seating position is
important for safe, relaxed driving.
For your own safety and to reduce the risk of in­
jury in the event of an accident, we recommend that you adjust the seat for the front passenger
to the following position:
.. Adjust the angle of the seatback so that it is in
an upright position and your back comes in full
contact with it whenever the vehicle is moving.
.. For adjustable head restraints: adjust the head
restraint so the upper edge is as even as possi­
ble with the top of your head. If that is not pos­
sible, try to adjust the head restraint so that it
is as close to this position as possible
~ page 61. Move the head restraint so that it is
as close to the back of the head as possible.
Driving safety
.. Keep both feet flat on the floor in front of the
front passenger seat.

Front seat passengers who are unbelted, out
of position or too close to the airbag can be
seriously injured or killed by the airbag as it
unfolds . To help reduce the risk of serious
personal injury:
- Passengers must always sit in an upright po­
sition and never lean against or place any part of their body too close to the area
where the airbags are located.
- Passengers who are unbelted, out of posi­
tion or too close to the airbag can be seri­
ously injured by an airbag as it unfolds with
g reat force in the blink of an eye.
- Always make sure that there are at least
10 inches (25 cm) between the front pas­
senger's breastbone and the instrument panel.
- Always make sure that there are at least
4 inches (10 cm) between the front passen­
ger's knees and the lower part of the instru­
ment panel.
- Each passenger must always sit on a seat of
their own and properly fasten and wear the
safety belt belonging to that seat.
- Before driving, always adjust the front pas­
senger seat properly.
- For adjustable head restraints: before driv­
ing, always also adjust the head restraints
properly .
- Always keep your feet on the floor in front
of the seat. Never rest them on the seat, in­
strument panel, out of the window, etc. The
airbag system and safety belt will not be
able to protect you properly and can even in­
crease the risk of injury in a crash .

Storing cargo correctly
Loading the luggage compartment
All luggage and other objects must be properly
stowed and secured in the luggage compart ­
ment.

Loose items in the luggage compartment can
shift suddenly, chang ing vehicle handling charac­
ter istics . Loose items can also increase the risk of
serio us personal inj ury in a sudden vehicle ma­
ne uver or in a coll ision.
• Distribute the load evenly in the luggage com­
partment.
• Always place and properly secure heavy items in
the luggage compartment as far forward as
poss ible.
• Secure luggage using the tie-downs provided
¢ page 63.
• Make sure that the rear seatback is securely
latched in place .
A WARNING
Improperly stored luggage or other items can
fly through the vehicle causing serio us per­
sonal injury in the event of hard braking or an
accident . To help reduce the risk of serious
personal injury:
- Always put objects, fo r example, luggage o r
other heavy items in the luggage compart­ ment.
- Always sec ure objects in the luggage com­
partment using the tie-down hooks and
s u itable straps .
Driving safety
A WARNING
Heavy loads will influence the way your vehi­
cle handles. To help reduce the risk of a loss
of control lead ing to serious personal injury:
- Always keep in m ind when transport ing
heavy objects, that a change in the center of
gravity can a lso cause changes in vehicle
handling :
- Always distribute the load as evenly as
possible .
- Place heavy objects as far forward in the luggage compartment as possible.
- Never exceed the Gross Ax le Weight Rating
or the G ross Vehicle Weight Rating specified
on the safety compliance sticker on the left
door jamb. Exceeding permissible we ight
standards can cause the vehicle to slide and handle differently.
- Please observe information on safe driving
¢page 249 .
A WARNING
-
To help prevent poisonous exhaust gas from
being drawn into the vehicle, always keep the
rear lid closed while driving.
- Never transport objects larger than those
fitting completely into the luggage area be ­
cause the rear lid cannot be fu lly closed.
- If you absolutely must dr ive with the rear lid
open, observe the following notes to reduce
the risk of poisoning:
- Close all windows,
- Close the power roof*,
- Close the power top*,
- Open alt a ir outlets i n the instrument pan-
el,
- Switch off the air rec irculat ion ,
- Set the fresh air fan to the highest speed.
A WARNING

Always make sure that the doors , all win­
dows, the power roof*, the power top* and
the rear lid are securely closed and locked to
r educe the risk of injury when the vehicle is
n ot being used.

With the front seats, the height adjustment
of the seat can also be used to adjust the po­
sition of the safety belts.
Improperly worn safety belts
Incorrectly positioned safety belts can cause se­ vere injuries.
Wearing safety belts imp roper ly can cause seri-
ous injury or death. Safety belts can only work
when they are correct ly positioned on the body.

Airbag syste m
passenger detection system from accurately
measuring the capac itance of the ch ild safe­
ty seat and/or the person on the seat and
thus keep the Advanced Airbag System from
working properly .
- Never place or use any electrical device
(such as a laptop, CD player, electronic
games dev ice, power inverter or seat heater
for child seats) on the front passenger seat
if the device is connected to the 12-volt
socket or the cigarette lighter socket. S uch
devices can infl uence the capacitance reg is ­
tered by the capacitive passenger detection system, so that incorrect information is pro­
vided to the airbag control unit.
- If you must use a child restraint on the front
passenger seat and the child restraint man­
ufacturer 's instructions require the use of a
towel, foam cushion or something else to
properly position the ch ild restraint, make
certain that the
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF
l ight comes on and stays on whenever the
child restraint is installed on the front pas­
senger se at.
- If the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light does
not come on and stay on, immedia tely in­
st al l child res traint in a rear seating posi tion
and have the airbag system inspected by
yo ur Audi dealer.
A WARNING
If the front passenger seat gets wet, dry it im­
mediately .
- If liquid soaks into the front passenger seat,
this can keep the airbag system from work­
ing properly and may, for instance, deact i­
vate the passenger frontal airbag. If this
happens, the
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF
light will come on and stay on together with
the a irbag indicator light
m in the instru­
ment cluster.
- If liquid is poo led on the seat, but has not
soa ked in, this may also keep the airbag sys­
tem from wo rking properly and ca use the
passenge r frontal a irb ag to be enabled
(tu rned on), even though there is a properly
installed chi ld restraint system on the seat.

Wet towels or other wet things on the seat
cushion can have the same effect. If the
front passenger fronta l airbag is turned on,
the
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light will go
out .
How the Advanced Airbag System
components work together
The fro nt Advanced A irbag System and t he side
airbags supp lement t he protection offered by the
front t hree-point safety be lts and the adjustable
head restraints* to help red uce the risk of inj ury
i n a wide range of accident and crash sit uations.
Be sure to read the important information about
safety and heed the WARNINGS in this chapter.
Deployment of the Advanced Airbag System and
the activation of the safety belt pretensioners de ­
pend on the dece leration measured by the crash
sensors and registered by the electronic contro l
unit . Crash severity depends on speed and decel­
e ration as well as the mass and stiffness of the
vehicle or object involved in the crash.
On the passenger side, regardless of safety belt
use, the front passenger frontal a irbag will be
turned off if the electr ica l capacitance measured
by the capacitive passenge r detection system o n
t h e front passenger seat is less tha n the amount
prog rammed in t he elec tron ic cont ro l unit . The
front passenger frontal a irbag w ill also be turned
off if the capacitance measured by the system for
the front passenger seat equals that of an infant
of about one year of age in one of the chi ld seats
that was used to certify the Advanced Airbag Sys­
tem under Federa l Motor Vehicle Safety Standard
208 . The
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light comes
o n and stays on to tell you w hen the front Ad­
vanced Airbag Sys tem on t he passenger side has
been t urned
off ~ page 281 .
A WARNING
To reduce the ris k of injury when an airbag in­
flates, always wea r safe ty belts p rope rly.
- If you are un res tra ined, le a ning forwar d, si t­
ting sideways or out of posi tion in any way,
your ris k of injury is much higher.

Airbag system
The PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light will show the status of the front seat passenger 's frontal
Advan ced Airbag a few seconds after the igni­
tion is switched on and the airbag indicator
light goes off. The PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF
light:
- will stay on if the front passenge r seat is not
occupied;
- will stay on if the elect rical capac itance meas­
u red by the capac itive passenger detection sys ­
tem fo r the front passenger seat equals the
combined capacitance of a n infant up to about
o n e year of age and o ne of the rearward -facing
o r fo rwa rd-facing chi ld restra in ts lis ted in Fed­
era l Mo to r Ve hicle Safety Sta ndar d 208 w it h
w hich the Advance d Airbag Syste m in your ve hi­
cl e w as c ertified; Fo r a listing o f the chi ld re ­
st rain ts that were use d to ce rtify you r ve hicl e's
com pliance with t he U.S . Safety Sta ndar d

the device is connected to the 12-vo lt soc ket or
the c igarette lighter socket;
- make sure that no seat hea ter has bee n ret ro ­
fitted o r othe rw ise ad ded to t he front passen­
ger seat;
- make sure that not hing can inte rfere with t he
safety belt buckles and that they are not ob­
st ructed;
- make sure that t here are no wet o bjects (such
as a wet towe l) and no water or ot her liquids on
the front passenge r seat c ushion .
If the PASSENGER AIR BAG light still does
not come on . ..
If the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light still does
not come o n an d does not stay o n continuously
(whe n the ign ition is sw itched on) ,

A WARNING
Children on the front seat of any car even with
Advanced Airbags can be seriously injured or
even killed when an airbag inflates. A child in
a rearward-facing child safety seat installed
on the front passenger seat will be serious ly
injured and can be killed if the front airbag i n­
flat es.
- The inflating a irbag w ill hit the child safety
seat or infant carrier with great force and
will smash the ch ild safety seat and child
against the backrest, center armrest, or
doo r.
- Always install rear-facing child safety seats
on the rear seat.
- If you must install a rearward fac ing ch ild
safety seat on the front passenger seat in
exceptiona l circumstances and the
PASSEN­
GER AIR BAG OFF
light does not come on
and stay on, immediately insta ll the rear ­
facing child safety seat in a rear seating po­ sition and have the airbag system inspected
immediately by your Audi dealer.
A WARNING
- Forward-fac ing ch ild seats installed on the
front passenger seat may interfere with the
deployment of the a irbag and cause serious
personal injury to the child.
- If except ional circumstances require the use
of a forward-facing child restraint on the
front passenger's seat, the child's safety
and well-being require the following special
prec autions to be taken:
- Always make sure that the fo rward-facing
seat has been designed and cert ified by its
manufacturer fo r use on a front passenger
seat with a front and s ide a irbag.
- Always care fully follow the manufacturer's
instructions provided with the child seat
or infant carrier.
- Never install a chi ld restraint without a
proper ly attached top tether strap if the
child restraint manufacturer's instructions
require the top tether strap to be used .
Child saf ety
- Never put the forward-fac ing child re­
straint up against or very near the instru­
ment panel.
- Applies to: vehicles with safety be lt height
adjustment: Always set the safety belt up­
per anchorage to the adjustment pos ition
that permits proper insta llation in accord­
ance with the child restrain t manufactur­
er's instr uctions .
- Always move the fron t passenger seat to
the h ighes t position in the up and down
adjustment range and move it back to the
re armos t position in the se at's fore a nd
a ft a dju stmen t range, as far away from
the a irbag as poss ible, befo re installing
the forward-facing child restra int .
- Always make sure tha t the safety belt up­
per anchorage is behind the ch ild restraint
and not next to or in front of the child re­
straint so that the safety belt will be prop­
erly pos it ioned.
- Always make sure that nothing p revents
the front passenger's seat from being moved to the rearmost position in its fore
and aft adjustment range .
- Never place objects on the seat (such as a
laptop , CD player , electronic games de­
vice, power inverter o r seat heater fo r
ch ild seats) . These may influence the elec­
trical capacitance measu red by the capac i­
tive p assenger detec tion system an d can
also fly around in an a ccid en t a nd c ause
serious person al injury .
- Never pla ce or use any ele ct rical devi ce
(s uch as a laptop, CD player, ele ctroni c
games device, powe r inverter or seat heat ­
er for child seats) on the front passenger
seat if the device is connected to the 12-
vo lt socket or the cigarette lighter socket.
- If a seat heate r has been retrofitted or
othe rw ise added to the front passenger
seat, never insta ll any child restraint sys­
tem on this seat.
- Make su re that there a re no wet objects
(such as a wet towe l) and no water or oth­
