The brake assist (brake booster) rema ins active
for a brief period of time after switc hing
off the
i gnition. To secure the vehicle from ro lling away,
select the "P" selector lever posit ion or set the
parking brake .
A WARNING
-Read and fo llow the warnings in
¢ page 318, Working in the engine com­
partment
befo re opening the hood and
checking the brake fluid level.
- If the brake system indicator light does not
turn
off or it turns on wh ile driving, the
brake flu id leve l in the reservo ir is too low,
an d this incre ases the risk of an accident.
Stop the vehicle and do not continue driv ­
ing . See an authorized Audi dea ler or a u­
thorized A udi Service Facility for assistance.
- I f the brake system indicator light t urns on
together with the ABS and ESC indicator lights, the ABS/ESC regu lating function may
be malfunct ion ing. Functions that stabilize
the vehicle are no longer available. This
could cause the rear of the vehicle to
swerve, wh ich increases the r is k that the ve­
hicle will slide. Do not cont inue driving. See
an authori zed A udi dealer or authori zed
Aud i Serv ice F acility fo r ass ist ance.

Let the eng ine run at idle for a few minutes to
cool off, until the ind icator light turns off.
- If the indicator light does not turn off, do not
continue driving the vehicle. See an authorized
Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Facility
for assistance .
A WARNING
-Never open the hood if you ca n see o r hear
steam o r coolant escap ing fro m the eng ine
compartment. This inc reases the risk of

steam or coo lant escaping.
- The engine compartment in any vehicle can
be a dangerous area. Stop the engine and
allow it to cool before working in the eng ine
compartment. Always follow the informa­
tion found in
¢ page 318, Working in the
engine comportment .
@ Note
Do not continue dr iv ing if the . indicator
light turns on as this increases the risk of en­
gine damage.
• S w itch off engine! Oil pressure too lo w
Stop the engine and do not continue driving.

- If the engine o il level is correct and the indica ­
tor light still turns on, turn the engine off and

The oil pressure warni ng is not a n oil leve l in­
d icator. Always check the oil level regularly .

hicle electr ical system .

necessary electrical equipment because it will

There is a malfunction in the eng ine or in the fue l
supp ly system.
M ore fo rce is needed to s teer and bra ke the mov ­
in g vehi cle when the engine is stopped. If the ve­
hi cle is roll ing , try to bring it to a stop off to the
side from moving traffic. See an authorized Audi
dea ler or authorized Audi Service Facility for as ­
sistance .
A WARNING -
If the eng ine stops whi le dr iv ing, yo u will
need to use more fo rce to brake the vehicle.
Th is increases the r isk of an accident . There
w ill still be power steer ing if t he ignit io n is
sw itched on wh ile the vehicle is rolling an d
t here is s ufficie nt vehicle batte ry c har ge. Oth ­
erwise, yo u m ust use g re ate r fo rce when
steer in g.

• Warning! Hood is not locked. Stop vehicle
and check the lock
I f t he in dicator lig ht tur ns on and t he message
appears, the hood loc king mechanism is no t en­
gaged correctly .

B l~ Electronic Stabilization Control (ESC)
If the G) indicato r light b lin ks w hile driving, the
ESC or AS R (Anti -S lip Regu lation) is active ly reg u­
l ating.
I f t he
G) indica to r li ght turns on, the sys tem has
switched the ESC off . In this case, you can switc h

the ignit ion off and then on to switch the ESC on
again. The indicator light t urns off whe n the sys ­
tem is functioning fu lly.
If the II ind ic a tor light tu rns on, ESC was
switched o ff using t he
1~ 00'1 b utton ¢ page 148.
Stabilization con trol (ESC /ABS ): malfunction!
S ee owner's manual
If the If] ind icator light and the llB (USA mod­
els) ;tlJ (Canada mode ls) ABS indicator light turn
o n and the message appears, there is a malfunc ­
t io n in the A BS o r th e e lectron ic diffe re nti al loc k.
T his also causes the ES C to malfunc tion . The
brakes st ill function with t he ir normal power, but
ABS is not active .
Dr ive to an author ized A udi dealer or au tho riz ed
A udi Se rvice Faci lity immed iate ly to h ave the
malfunction corrected.

Power top
-Be careful when installing so you do not
pinch your fingers.
-Pay attention to the traffic when insta lling
the wind def lector. Install the w ind deflec­
tor from the s ide of the vehicle that is away
from traffic.
(D Note
Do not lean against the veh icle when insta l­
ling the wind deflector. Hard objects and dec­
orations on clothing such as belt buckles can
scratch the pa int.
@ Tips
-The wind deflector works best when a ll of
the w indows are rolled up wh ile driving.
-Only store the wind deflector in the storage
bag * when it is dry.
Power top emergency
operation
General information
Applies to: veh icles with power top
The power top can be closed manually if there is
a malfunction.
.,. Set the parking brake.
.,. Open all windows.
,.. Switch the ignition of f .
.. Pu ll the button @ for approximately 10 to
15 seconds to reduce the p ressure in the power
top
hydraulics ¢ page 42, fig. 32.
Only close the power top manua lly in an emer­
gency . Have a second person assist . Drive to an
authorized Audi dealer or author ized Audi Service
Facility immediately to have the malfunction cor­
rected.
A WARNING
-There is a r isk of pinching the hands or othe r
people during all of the powe r top emergen­
cy operat ion steps .
-Make sure a ll windows are lowered during
emergency operation.

-Do not reach into the power top supports
or other mov ing components.
-Never drive when the power top is not
locked correct ly. The wind from driving
could cause the power top to open. This can
result in injur ies and damage to the vehicle .
(D Tips
The power top storage compartment lid is not l atched after the emergency operat ion is
complete. Dr ive to an authorized Audi dealer
or authorized Audi Service Facility immediate­ ly to have the malfu nction corrected.

Drivin g
~ Brake the vehicle to a stop . The engine stops
shortly before the vehicle comes to a stop or if
the ve hicle is stationary

the brake pedal. The

pears in the display. The need le in the tachome­
ter also moves into the
READ Y position .
~ The engine starts again when you take your
foot off the brake pedal. The ind icator light
tu rns off.
Add ition al informa tion
The engine stops in the "P", "N" and "D" selector
lever positions .
If you select the "R" selector lever position during
a Stop phase, the engine will start again.
Shift to "P" quickly to prevent the engine from

You can determ ine for you rself if the engine will
stop or not by reducing or increasing the amount
of force you use to press the brake pedal. For ex­
ample, if you only light ly press on the brake ped­
al in stop-and-go traff ic or when turning, the en­
g ine will not switch off when the vehicle is sta­
tionary . As soon as you press the brake down
harder, the eng ine will switch off .

-Press the brake pedal during a Stop phase
to keep the veh icle from roll ing.
- The ignition will turn off if you press the
I STAR T ENGINE ST OP ! button* during a
stop phase . The needle in the tachometer
moves into the
OFF pos it ion .

Engine does not switch off
Before and during each stop phase, the system
checks if certa in cond itions have been met. If the
fjj i ndicato r light appears in the instr ument clus­
t er d isp lay, the engine w ill no t be s topped, for
examp le in the fo llowing situations:
1) Ma rket -spe cific

- T he engine has not reached the minim um re­
quired temperature for Start/Stop mode.
- The interior temperature selected by the cli-
mate control system* has not been reached.
- The ou tside tempe rat ure is extremely high/low.
- The windsh ield is being
defrosted® .
-The parking system* is switched on .
- The vehicle battery charge level is too low .
- The steering wheel is turned at a sharp angle or
is moving.
- After engaging the reverse gear.
- On sharp inclines .
- At high altitudes .
Engine automaticall y restarts
The standard Start/Stop mode w ill be canceled
d u ring a stop p hase in the following situat ions.
The eng ine res tarts witho ut any act ion by the
drive r.
- The vehicle ro lls, for example while on a slope .
- The interior temperature differs from the tem -
peratu re selected in the A/C system .
- The windsh ield is being
defrosted® .
-The brake pedal is pressed several times in a
row.
- The vehicle battery charge level is too low.
- Power consumption is hig h.

Ignition is switched off automaticall y
To prevent the vehicle battery from dra ining, the
i gnition will sw itch off
a ut omaticall y under the
fo llow ing cond it ions:
- The Start/Stop system has stopped the engine .
- The vehicle is stationary.
- You exited the vehicle .
In this case, the activated low beam is rep laced
by the pa rking light . The parking lights wi ll
switch off after approximately 30 minutes or
when you lock the veh icle.

If the Start/Stop system has not turned off the
engine or if you have switched the Start/Stop sys­
tem off manually, the ignition will not be auto­ mat ically switched off and the engine w ill contin­
ue to run

A WARNING
To reduce the risk of poisoning, never allow
the engine to run in confined spaces.
(D Tips
If you select the "D" or "N" selector lever pos i­
tion in a veh icle with an automatic transmis­
sion after shifting into reverse, the vehicle
must be dr iven faster than 6 mph (10 km/h)
in order for the engine to sw itch off again.
Manually switching the Start /Stop system
on /off
Appl ies to: ve hicles with Sta rt/Stop system
If you do not wish to use the system, you can
switch it off manually.

ton turns on when the system is sw itched off .

If
you switch the system off during a stop
phase, the engine will start again automati­
cally.

Your vehicle is equipped with an electromechani ­
ca l parking brake

Sett ing /manuall y releasing the parking
brake
.. Pull the(®) switch to set the parking brake. The
LED in the switch turns on. The

turns on in the instrument cluster disp lay .
