a re on. If you move the leve r to pos ition @,
the head lights are washed in intervals.
@ -allroad : Wipe the rear window. The rear
wiper moves about every 4 seconds.

ber of wiping operations depends on how long
the lever is held in pos ition

- T he ra in sensor is only inte nded to assist
the drive r. The driver is still responsible
for man ually switching the wipers on ac­
cording to the v isibility conditions .
- T he windshie ld may not be treated w ith
water-repe lling windshie ld coating
agents . Unfavorable conditions, such as
wetness, darkness, low sun, can res ult in
increased glare. Wiper blade chatter is
also possible .
- Proper ly functioning windshie ld w iper
blades are required for a clear view and safe driving
I:!) page 57, Replacing
windshield wiper blades.
@ Note
- In the case of frost, check whethe r the
windshield wiper blades are frozen to
the windshield. Sw itching on the wind­
shield wipers can damage the wiper
blades!
- Pr ior to us ing a car wash, the w indshield
w iper system must be sw itched off ( lever
in posit ion @). Th is he lps to prevent un­
intentional switching on and damage to
the windsh ield wiper system .
@ Tips
-The windshie ld wipers are switched off
when the ignit ion is turned off. Act ivate
the winds hield wipers after the ignition
is switched back on by moving the wind­
shield w iper lever to any position.
- Worn or d irty windshield wiper b lades
result in st reaking. This can affect the
rain sensor* function. Check your wind­
shield w ipe r blades regularly.
- The washer fluid nozz les of t he wind­
shield w asher system a re heated at low
temperat ures when the igni tion is on.
- When stopping tempo rarily, (e .g. at a
t raffic light) the set speed o f the wind­
shield wipers is automatically reduced by
one speed.
· Cleaning windshield wiper blades
Clean the windshie ld w iper b lades when they
begin to leave streaks. Use a soft cloth and
glass cle aner to clea n the windshield wiper
blades .

Removing the wiper blade
• Lift the w indshield wiper arm up from the
windshield.
• Press the locking knob

wiper blade . Hold the wiper blade fi rm ly.
• Remove the wiper blade in the direct ion of
the arrow .

A WARNING
For your safety, you should rep lace the
wiper b lades once or twice a year . See your
authorized Audi dealer for replacement b lades.

be replaced when in the service pos ition!
Otherw ise, you risk damag ing the pa int
on the hood o r the windshie ld w iper mo­
to r.
- Yo u should not move your vehicle o r
press the windsh ield wiper lever when
t he wipe r arms are folded away from the
w indshield . The windsh ield wipers wou ld
move back into their original position
and co uld damage the hood and wind­
shield.
- To help prevent damage to the w iper sys­
tem, always loosen blades which are fro­
zen to the windshield before operating
w ipers.
- To help p revent damage to wiper blades,
do not use gasoline, kerosene, paint
thinner, or other solvents on or near the
w iper blades .
- To help prevent damage to the w iper
arms or other components, do not at­
tempt to move the wipe rs by hand .

- Commercial hot waxes applied by auto­
matic car washes affect the how easily
the glass surface can be cleaned .
- You can also use the service position, for
example, if you want to protect the
w indshield from icing by using a cover .

vised use of the electric seat adjust­ ments may cause serious injury. -
To reduce the risk of injury in the case of
sudden braking or accident, front pas­
sengers must never r ide in a moving ve­
hicle with the backrest reclined . Safety
be lts and the airbag system only offer
maximum protection when the backrest is upr ight and the safety belts are prop­
e rly po sit ioned on the body. The more
the backres t is reclined, the grea ter the
risk of persona l injury from an incorrect
seating position and imprope rly posi­
tioned safety belts.
Center armrest
The center armrest can be adjusted to several
levels .

The memory buttons are located in the driv­
er's door.
Switching the memory function on/off
• Press the !OFF ! button to switch the memory
function on/off. The word
OFF lights up
when the memory function is switched off.
Seat profiles are neither stored nor recalled.
Storing a seat profile
• Press the !SET ! button. When the word SET
lights up, the memory is ready to store set­
t in gs.
• Press a memory button
([II or rn) briefly. A
tone confirms that the settings were stored.
Accessing a seat profile
• If the driver's door is open and the ignition
is switched off, press the memory button.
• If the driver's door is closed or the ignition is
switched on, press and hold the memory
button until the seat adjustment is com ­
plete .
A WARNING
-For safety reasons, the seat sett ing can
only be recalled when the vehicle is sta­
tionary - otherwise you risk having an ac­
c ident.
- In an emergency the recall procedure can
be cancelled by press ing the
!OF F! switch
or by tapping the memory buttons.

A WARNING
Never put waste paper in the ashtray. Hot
ashes or other hot objects in the ashtray
could set waste paper on fire.
Cigarette lighter

• Press the cigarette lighter in.
• Remove the cigarette lighter when it pops
out .
T he cigarette lighter should only be used as a
power source for the compressor from the in­
flatable spare kit* when absol ute ly necessary.
A WARNING
The cigarette lighter on ly works when the
ignition is switched on. Incorrect usage
can lead to serious injuries or burns. For
this reason, children should never be left unattended in the vehicle because this in­
creases the risk of injury.

Automatic mode mainta ins a constant tem­
perature inside the vehicle. Air temperature,
airflow and air distribution are controlled au­
tomatically.
Adjusting the temperature
Temperatures between 60 °F (+16 °C) and
84 °F ( +28 °C) can be set . Outside of this
range,
LO or HI will appea r in the climate con­
trol system disp lay. At both of these settings,
the climate control system runs continuously
at maximum cooling or heating power . There
is no temperature regu lation.
~ Adjusting the airflow
You can adjust the airflow manually to su it
your needs . To have the airflow regulated au­
tomatically , press the
!AUTO ! button.
~ Adjusting the air distribution
You can manually select the vents where the
a ir will flow . To have the air d istribution regu­
lated automatically, press the
IAUTOI button .
~ Adjusting seat heating*
Pressing the button switches the seat heating
on at the highest sett ing (level 3) . The LEDs
indicate the temperature leve l. To reduce the
temperature, press the button again . To
switch the seat heating off , press the button
repeatedly until the LED turns off .
After 10 minutes , the seat heating automati­
cally switches from level 3 to leve l 2.
I@ FR ON T I Switch the defroster on/off
The windshield and s ide windows are defrost­
ed or cleared of condensation as quickly as
possible . The max imum amount of air flows
mainly from the vents below the windshield.
Recirculation mode switches off . Th e tempera- tu
re should be set to 72 °F (22 °C) or higher.
The temperature is contro lled automatically.

T he rear window heate r only operates w hen
the engine is running.

matically after a few minutes, depending on
the outside temperature .

T his remains stored until the ignition is
switched off.
Air vents
You can open and close the center and rear air
vents using the thumbwheels. The levers ad­
just the direction of the airflow from the
vents.
In veh icles with a 3-zone deluxe automatic cli­
mate control system*, you can adjust the air
temperature in the rear by turning the thumb­
whee l toward the red side to make it warmer
or toward the b lue side to make it coo ler.
A WARNING
-- Do not use the recirc ulation for extended
periods of time. The windows could fog
up since no fresh a ir can enter the vehi­
cle . If the windows fog up, press the air
recirc ulation butto n again immediately
to switch off the air recirculation func­
tion o r se lect defrost.
- Individuals with reduced sensitivity to
pa in or temperature could develop burns
when using the seat heating function . To
reduce the risk of injury, these indiv idu­
als shou ld not use seat heating.

To avoid damage to the heating elements
in the seats, do not kneel on the seats or
place heavy loads on a small area of the
seat.

Manually adjustable steering wheel
The steering wheel position is fully adjustable
up and down and forward and bock .

t ion.
• Push the lever against the steering column
until it locks.
There must be at least 10 inches (25 cm) be­ tween your chest and the center of the steer­
ing wheel. If you cannot sit more than 10 in­
ches (25 cm) from the steering whee l, see if
adaptive equipment is available to help you
reach the pedals and increase the distance
from the steering wheel.

A WARNING
Improper use of steeri ng wheel adjust­
ment and improper seating position can
cause serious personal injury.
- Adjust the steering whee l co lumn on ly
when the veh icle is not moving to pre­
vent loss of veh icle control.
- Adjust the driver's seat or steering wheel
so that there is a minimum of 10 inches
(25 cm) between your chest and the
steering wheel
¢ page 127, fig . 139. If
yo u cannot mainta in this min imum dis- tance, the airbag system cannot protect
you proper ly.
- If physical limitations prevent you from
sitting 10 inches (25 cm) or more from
the steering wheel, check with your au­
thorized Audi dealer to see if adaptive
equ ipment is ava ilable .
- If the steer ing wheel is aligned with your
face, the supplementa l driver's a irbag
cannot provide as much protection in an
accident . Always make sure that the
steer ing wheel is aligned with your
chest.
- Always hold the steering wheel w ith your
hands at the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock posi­
tions to reduce the risk of persona l injury
if the driver's airbag dep loys .
- Never hold the stee ring wheel at the 12
o'clock position or with your hands inside
the steeri ng wheel rim or on the steering
wheel hub . Holding the steering wheel
the wrong way can cause serious injuries
to the hands, arms and head if the driv­
er's airbag deploys.

If you wou ld like to switch the ignition on
without sta rting the engine, follow t hese
steps :
~ Insert the key into the ignition lock .
~ Press the key briefly without pressing the
clutch peda l (for manual transmissions) or
the brake peda l (for automatic transmis­
s ions) .
~ To switch the ignition off, press the key
again .
When starting the engine, major e lectr ica l
loads are switched off temporarily .
You can on ly remove the key with the ignition
switched off.
If the engine sho uld not sta rt immedia tely,
the starting process is automatically stopped
after a short time. Repeat starting proced ure .
A WARNING
-Never allow the engine to run in confined
spaces -danger of asphyxiation.
- Never remove the ign ition key from the
ignition look while the vehicle is moving.
Otherw ise, the steering lock could sud­
denly engage and you would not be able
to steer the vehicle.
- Always take the key with you whenever
you leave your vehicle . Otherwise, the
engine could be started or e lectr ical
equipment such as the power w indows
cou ld be operated. This ca n lead to seri­
o us inj ury.
- Never leave ch ild ren or persons requiring
assistance unattended in the veh icle. The
doors can be loc ked using the remote
transmitter, preventing people from es­ caping from the vehicle on their own in
the event of an emergency. Depend ing
on the time of year, people inside the ve-

key

You can use the emergency key as an ignition

Emergency off
If it is necessary in unu sual circumstances, the
engine can be switched off while the veh icle is
moving. The engine will be switched off if you
press on the key for an extended period .
A WARNING ~
-Never turn off the engine before the ve­
hicle has come to a comp lete stop. The
fu ll function of the brake booster and the
power steering is not guaranteed. You
must use more force to turn or brake if
necessary. Beca use you cannot steer and
brake as you usually wou ld, this could
lead to crashes and ser ious injuries.
- For safety reasons, you sho uld a lways
park your vehi cle with the selector lever
in P. O therwise, the vehicle could in ad ­
ver ten tly roll away.
- The radiator fan can continue to run fo r
up to 1 0 minu tes
even after you have
turned off the engine and removed the
ignit ion key. The radiator fan can a lso
turn on agai n if the engine coo lant heats
up because of intense sunlight or heat
bu ild-up in the engine compartment.
- Always take the key with you whenever
you leave your vehicle. Otherw ise, the

I S TART ENGI NE STOPI button is pressed if
there is no master key ins ide the veh icle or if
the system does not recognize it . Fo r exam­
ple, the master k ey cannot be recognized if it
is covered by an object (e.g. al uminum b rief
case) which
screens the radio s ignal. Elec tron­
ic dev ices such as cell phones can also inter­
fere with the radio s ignal.
Press brak e pedal to start engine
This message appears if you do not press the
brake pedal to start the eng ine in a veh icle
