You can only extend and retract the cover in

• Pull the cover out and attach it in position
@ in the moun ting eyelets in the side trim.
Comfort position
In pos ition @, the cover does not need to be
removed to unload the luggage compart·

• To move to position @, tilt the end of the
cover upward from the bottom when the
cover is extended. It will then move into po·
s ition @ by itself ¢

latched so that the safety belt of the cen­
ter seating pos ition can work properly to
help protect the occupant .
- The backrest must be secure ly latched in
posit ion so that no items contained in
the luggage compartment can slide for­
ward upon sudden braking .
- Always check whether the latch is f ully
engaged by pu lling the seatback for­
wa rd.
- Never allow safety belts to become dam­
aged by being caught in doo r o r seat
hardware.
- Torn or frayed safety belts can tear and
damaged belt ha rdware can break in a
c rash. Inspect the be lts periodica lly.

ings, buckles, or retractors must be re­
placed.

- If you move the front seat back when the

A WARNING
-The ski sack is intended only for the
transportation of skis and other light ob ­
jects . To reduce the risk of serious per­
sonal injury, never transport heavy or

- When braking rapidly or during an acci­
dent, the load could be displaced and
cause injury to occupants.
- Sharp edges on the load must be covered
for protection. Always fasten the belt
tightly around the sack and its contents
¢fig. 91.
- For safety reasons, do not transport
more than two pairs of skis in the ski
sack.
- You must secure the ski sack with the
strap after loading.
- Make sure that all objects you are trans­
porting in the pass-through are secured.
Otherwise they could slide around during
sudden braking maneuvers and cause in­
juries.
(D} Tips
- Never stow the ski sack away when it is
still wet or damp (for example, snow
melting from skis). Allow it to dry com­
pletely before stowing it away.
- When transporting skis or snowboards,
tighten the securing strap between the
bindings. -
Position skis in the ski sack with the
pointed ends facing the front and ski
poles with the pointed ends facing the
rear.
- Sedan: You can lock or unlock the pass­
through using the mechanical key. This
prevents any access to the luggage com­
partment from the vehicle inte rior.

Operation
We recommend pressing the IAUTO I button and setting the temperature to 72 °F (22 °C).

Press the buttons to turn the functions on or
off. Use the d ials to adjust the temperature,
the blower speed and the a ir distribution. The
LE D in a button will light up when the func­
tion is switched on. The settings are displayed
for a few seconds in the radio or MMI* display.
In vehicles with a 3-zone deluxe automatic cli­
mate control systems*, the driver and front
passenger side can be adjusted separately.
The settings are also displayed in the climate
con trol system display .
~ IOFFI Switching the climate control

:5: The IOFFI button switches the climate control
~ sys tem on or off . It also switches on when you rl
press the knob. Airflow from outside is
blocked when the climate control system is
switched off.
IA/C l Switching cooling mode on /off
The air is not coo led and humidity is not re­
moved when cooling mode is switched off.
This can cause fog on the w indows. Cooling
mode switches off automatically when the
outside temperature is be low zero.
1-1 Switching recirculation mode on/off
In recircu lation mode, the air inside the vehi ­
cle is circulated and filtered. This prevents the unfiltered air outside the vehicle from enter-
ing the vehicle interior. We recommend "'

Manually adjustable steering wheel
The steering wheel position is fully adjustable
up and down and forward and bock .

First, adjust the driver's seat correctly .
• Pull the lever

• Move the steer ing whee l to the desired posi­
t ion.
• Push the lever against the steering column
until it locks.
There must be at least 10 inches (25 cm) be­ tween your chest and the center of the steer­
ing wheel. If you cannot sit more than 10 in­
ches (25 cm) from the steering whee l, see if
adaptive equipment is available to help you
reach the pedals and increase the distance
from the steering wheel.

A WARNING
Improper use of steeri ng wheel adjust­
ment and improper seating position can
cause serious personal injury.
- Adjust the steering whee l co lumn on ly
when the veh icle is not moving to pre­
vent loss of veh icle control.
- Adjust the driver's seat or steering wheel
so that there is a minimum of 10 inches
(25 cm) between your chest and the
steering wheel

yo u cannot mainta in this min imum dis- tance, the airbag system cannot protect
you proper ly.
- If physical limitations prevent you from
sitting 10 inches (25 cm) or more from
the steering wheel, check with your au­
thorized Audi dealer to see if adaptive
equ ipment is ava ilable .
- If the steer ing wheel is aligned with your
face, the supplementa l driver's a irbag
cannot provide as much protection in an
accident . Always make sure that the
steer ing wheel is aligned with your
chest.
- Always hold the steering wheel w ith your
hands at the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock posi­
tions to reduce the risk of persona l injury
if the driver's airbag dep loys .
- Never hold the stee ring wheel at the 12
o'clock position or with your hands inside
the steeri ng wheel rim or on the steering
wheel hub . Holding the steering wheel
the wrong way can cause serious injuries
to the hands, arms and head if the driv­
er's airbag deploys.

Sw itching the i gnition on /off
If you wou ld like to switch the ignition on
without sta rting the engine, follow t hese
steps :
~ Insert the key into the ignition lock .
~ Press the key briefly without pressing the
clutch peda l (for manual transmissions) or
the brake peda l (for automatic transmis­
s ions) .
~ To switch the ignition off, press the key
again .
When starting the engine, major e lectr ica l
loads are switched off temporarily .
You can on ly remove the key with the ignition
switched off.
If the engine sho uld not sta rt immedia tely,
the starting process is automatically stopped
after a short time. Repeat starting proced ure .
A WARNING
-Never allow the engine to run in confined
spaces -danger of asphyxiation.
- Never remove the ign ition key from the
ignition look while the vehicle is moving.
Otherw ise, the steering lock could sud­
denly engage and you would not be able
to steer the vehicle.
- Always take the key with you whenever
you leave your vehicle . Otherwise, the
engine could be started or e lectr ical
equipment such as the power w indows
cou ld be operated. This ca n lead to seri­

- Never leave ch ild ren or persons requiring
assistance unattended in the veh icle. The

Steering lock
T he steering locks when yo u remove the igni­
t ion key. The locked steering helps prevent

hicle theft .
Emergency off
If it is necessary in unu sual circumstances, the
engine can be switched off while the veh icle is
moving. The engine will be switched off if you
press on the key for an extended period .
A WARNING ~
-Never turn off the engine before the ve­
hicle has come to a comp lete stop. The
fu ll function of the brake booster and the
power steering is not guaranteed. You
must use more force to turn or brake if
necessary. Beca use you cannot steer and
brake as you usually wou ld, this could
lead to crashes and ser ious injuries.
- For safety reasons, you sho uld a lways
park your vehi cle with the selector lever
in P. O therwise, the vehicle could in ad ­
ver ten tly roll away.
- The radiator fan can continue to run fo r
up to 1 0 minu tes
even after you have
turned off the engine and removed the
ignit ion key. The radiator fan can a lso
turn on agai n if the engine coo lant heats
up because of intense sunlight or heat
bu ild-up in the engine compartment.
- Always take the key with you whenever
you leave your vehicle. Otherw ise, the
engine could be started or electrical
equ ipment such as the power windows
could be operated. This can lead to seri­
ous injury.
- Never leave childre n or persons requiring
assistance unattended in t he vehicle . The

ple, the master k ey cannot be recognized if it
is covered by an object (e.g. al uminum b rief
case) which
screens the radio s ignal. Elec tron­
ic dev ices such as cell phones can also inter­
fere with the radio s ignal.
Press brak e pedal to start engine
This message appears if you do not press the
brake pedal to start the eng ine in a veh icle
with an automat ic transm iss ion.
Press clutch pedal to sta rt engine
T his message ap pears if you do not press the
clutch pedal to start the engine in a vehicle
with a manual transmission. .,.

Shift to N or P to start engine
This message appears when attempting to
start the engine if the selector lever for the
automatic transmission is not in the P or N
position. The engine can only be started with
the selector in these positions .
!!I Is the key in the vehicle?
This message appears if the master key is re­
moved from the vehicle with the engine run­
ning.
If the master key is no longer in the ve­
hicle, you cannot switch on the ignition after
stopping the engine and you also cannot start
the engine again. Moreover, you cannot lock
the vehicle from the outside with the key.
Shift to P otherwise vehicle can roll away.
Doors do not lock if lever is not in P.
This message appears for safety reasons
along with a warning signal.
It appears if the
selector lever for the automatic transmission
is not in the P position when switching off the
ignition. Move the selector lever to the P posi­
tion, otherwise the vehicle is not secured
against rolling away. You also cannot lock the
vehicle using the locking button* on the door
handle or using the remote key.
Convenience key defective! Use ignition lock
This message appears if the engine must be
started or stopped using the ignition key and
not the
I START ENGINE STOP! button.

Electromechanical
parking brake
Operation
The electromechanical parking broke replaces
the hand broke.

da models) in the instrument cluster illumi­
nate .
"'With the ignition switched on, step on the
brake pedal or the accelerator pedal and
press the switch @at the same time to re­
lease the parking brake. The indicator lights
in the switch and. (USA models)/ . (Can­
ada models) in the instrument cluster go
out.
Your vehicle is equipped with an electrome­
chanical parking brake. The parking brake is
designed to prevent the vehicle from rolling unintentionally and replaces the hand brake.
In addition to the normal functions of a tradi­
tional hand brake, the electromechanical
parking brake provides various convenience
and safety functions .
When starting from rest
- The integral starting assist helps you when
driving by automatically releasing the park­
ing brake ¢

-When starting on inclines , the starting as-
sist prevents the vehicle from unintentional-
ly rolling back. The braking force of the
parking brake is not released until sufficient
