Instruments and warning/indicator lights 21
The IJI symbol illuminates when there is an
engine control malfunction. The
[3i indicator
light in the instrument cluster also illumi­
nates . The engine speed is limited to the
speed d isplayed in the driver information sys­
tem . Keep in mind that the eng ine speed will
not exceed the value displayed in the drive r in­
formation system , for example when down­
shifting.
Drive to your authorized Aud i dealer immedi ­
ately to have the malfunct ion corrected.

• Oil level! Sen sor defective
If the symbol illuminates, contact your au­
thor ized Audi dealer and have the o il sensor
i nspected . Until you have th is done, check the
oil level each time you refuel just to be on the
safe side

If the indicator light turns on for the first
time and the message appears, there are
about 2.1- 2.4 gallons (7 -9 liters) of fuel left
in the tank. Time to refuel

tank system .

~/ }D 10$ Defective light bulb warning
If the f:I indicator light turns on, a bulb has
failed. Th e message indicates the location of
the bu lb .
- If the
II indicator light also turns on, then
a fog light has failed . The position of the in­
dicator light corresponds with the location
on the vehicle .
- If the
IJ indicator light also turns on, then
a rear fog* light has failed . The position of
the indicator light corresponds with the lo­
cation on the vehicle.
T his warning can also occ ur if the light switch
is in an unengaged position between two sym­
bols.
Vehicle lights : System fault!
If the message appears, there is a malfunc­
tion in the headlights or light sw itch.
Drive to your au thorized Audi dealer immedi­
ately to have the malfunction corrected .
A WARNING
-Light bulbs a re p ressurized and could ex­
plode wh ile they are being changed caus­
ing serious personal injury.
- Work with due care when hand ling the
high-voltage section of gas discharge
(xenon) lights*. Failure to do so could re­
sult in death or serious injury .

headlight range cont rol is no longer wo rking
properly. Have the system checked and re­
pa ired at your author iz ed Audi dealer.
~O Adaptive Light
Applies to vehicles: with adaptive light
111 Aud i adaptive l ight: defective
If t he indicator lig ht t urns on a nd th is mes­
sage appears, t he re is a ma lfunction in the
adapt ive light system. The headlig hts still
function.
Go to an a uth o rized dea le rship to have the
headlights or the contro l unit for the adapt ive
light repa ired.

If the indicator light t urns on and th is mes­
sage appears, the lig ht/ra in sensor is n ot

For safety reasons the low beams are turned
on permanent ly w ith the switch in AUTO .
H owever, you can c ontinue to turn the lights
on and off using the light switc h. You can still
con trol a ll funct ions tha t are in depe nden t of
the rai n sensor through the wi ndshi eld wipe r
l eve r.
Contact your author ized Audi dealer as soon
as possible to have the prob lem cor rected .
Q Adaptive dampers

A WARNING
Whenever working on the battery or on
the electrical system, there is the r isk of
injury, acc ident and even fire. Read and
heed the following WARNINGS :
- Always wear eye protection. Do not let
battery acid or any lead particles get on
your sk in or cloth ing. Sh ield your eyes .
Explosive gases can cause blindness o r
other injury.
- Battery acid contains sulfuric acid . Sulfu­
ric acid can cause blind ness and severe
burns.
- Always wear gloves and eye p rotection.
Do not tilt the battery because ac id
could leak out of the vent ilation open ­
ings.
- If you get battery acid in yo ur eyes or
on your sk in, immed iately r inse with
cold water for severa l m inutes and get
medical attention.
- If you should ingest any battery acid,
seek med ica l attention immediately.
- Do not expose the battery to an open
flame, electric sparks or an open light.
- Do not smoke.
- Do not interchange the positive and neg-
ative cab les .
- When working on the battery, be sure
not to short-circuit the terminals with
tools or other metal objects. This would cause the battery to heat up very quickly,
wh ich could lead to damage or explosion
and personal injury.

Checkin g and fillin g
-When a battery is charged, it produces
hyd rogen gas which is explos ive and
could cause personal injury.
- Always keep the battery well out of the
reach of children.
- Before work is done on the elect rical sys ­
tem, disconnect the negative ground ca­ ble.
- Before performing any work on the e lec­
trical system, switch
off the eng ine and
ignit ion as well as any electrical equip­
ment. The negative cable on the battery
must be disconnected. If yo u are just go­
ing to replace a light bulb, then it is
enough to switc h
off the lights.
- Before disconnecting the battery, switch
off the anti-theft alarm system! Other­
wise you wi ll set
off the al arm.
- When disconnecting the battery, first
discon nect the negat ive cab le and then
the posit ive cab le.
- Before reconnecting the batte ry, ma ke
sure all e lectr ica l cons umers are sw itch ­
ed off . Re connect the pos it ive cable first
and then the negative cable. Neve r in ter ­
change the cables -this could start a fire!
- Never cha rge a frozen or a thawed-out
battery.
It could exp lode! If a battery has
frozen, then it must be replaced . A dis­
charged battery can freeze over at 32°F
(QOC).
- Make s ure the vent hose is always attach­
ed to the opening on the side of the bat­
tery.
- Never use batteries which are damaged.
There is the danger of an explosion! A l­
ways rep lace a damaged batte ry.
A WARNING
Ca lifornia Proposition 65 Warning:
- Battery posts, terminals and related ac­
cessories conta in lead and lead com­
pounds, chemicals known to the State of
Ca lifornia to cause cance r and reproduc­
tive problems. Wash hands after han- dling.

When you need access to the vehicle tool kit
or jack* , you will need to take out the spare
tire and cover

Depending on your vehicle's equipment, the
tool kit may also be located under the cargo
floor cover @

- Hook for removing wheel covers *
- Alignment pin for changing the wheel
- Screwdriver w ith reversible blade
- T ool for changing light bulbs
- Reversible bit (reversible Torx bit for chang- ing light b ulbs)

- Lug wrench

the jack arm f ully.
A WARNING
-
- Never use the screw driver hex head to
tighten wheel bo lts, since the bolts can­
not attain the necessary tightening tor­
que if you use the hex head, potentially
causing an acc ident .
- The factory-supplied jack is intended on­
ly for your vehicle model. U nder no c ir­
cumstances should it be used to lift
heavy veh icles o r othe r loads; you risk in­
juring yo urself .
- Never start the engine when the vehicle
is raised, wh ich could cause an acc ident.
- Support the vehicle securely with appro ­
priate stands if work is to be performed
underneath the vehicle; otherwise, there
is a potentia l risk for injury.
Space-saving spare tire
(compact spare tire)

The spore tire/wheel is located in the luggage
comportment under the cargo floor cover . It
is intended for shor t-term u se only.

Replacing a fuse
Fuses that have blown will have metal strips
that have burned through.

The fuses are located at the front left and

the right side of the luggage compartment .

Bulbs
Replacing bulbs
For your safety, we recommend that you hove
your authorized Audi dealer replace any bulbs
for you.
It is becoming increasingly more and more
difficult to replace vehicle light bulbs since in
many cases, other parts of the car must first
be removed before you are able to get to the
bulb. This applies especially to the light bulbs
in the front of your car which you can only
reach through the engine compartment .
Sheet metal and bulb holders can have sharp
edges that can cause serious cuts, parts must
be correctly taken apart and then properly put
back together to help prevent breakage of
parts and long term damage from water that
can enter housings that have not been p roper­
l y resea led.
For your safety, we recommend that you have
you r authorized Aud i dea ler replace any bulbs
for you, since yo ur dealer has the proper too ls,
the correct bulbs and the expertise .
Gas discharge lamp s (Xenon lights)*:
Due to the high electr ical voltage, have the
bulbs replaced by a qualif ied techn ic ian.
Headlights wit h Xenon light are identified by
the high voltage sticker.
_&. WARNING
Changing Xenon lamps witho ut the neces­
sa ry equipment can cause serious persona l
injury.
- Bulbs are pressurized and can explode
when being changed. Potential risk of in­
jury!
