Emergencybrakingshouldonlybeusedin
anemergency,whenthewhenthestandard
brakepedalismalfunctioningorobstructed.
Duringemergencybraking,yourvehiclewill
brakesimilartoheavybraking.ESC andthe
associatedcomponents(ABS,ASR,EDL)can-
notovercomethelawsofphysics.Afull
brakeapplicationwhiledrivingthrough
curvesorinpoorroadorweatherconditions
cancausethevehicletoslideortherearof
thevehicletoswerve,whichincreasesthe
riskofanaccident.
Ifthepowersupplyfails,youcannotsetthe
parkingbrakeonceitisreleased.Ifthisis
thecase,stopthevehicleonlevelground
andsecureitbyengaging1stgear(manual
transmission)orselectingthe"P"selector
leverposition(automatictransmission).See
anauthorizedAudidealerorauthorizedAu-
diServiceFacilityforassistance.
Alwayssettheparkingbrakewhenleaving
yourvehicle,evenifforashortperiodof
time.Iftheparkingbrakeisnotset,theve-
hiclecouldrollaway,increasingtheriskof
anaccident.
Ifyouleavethevehicle,switchtheignition
offandtakethevehiclekeywithyou.This
appliesparticularlywhenchildrenremainin
thevehicle.Otherwise,childrencouldstart
theengine,releasetheparkingbrake,orop-
erateelectricalequipmentsuchaspower
windows,whichincreasestheriskofanacci-
dent.
Noone,especiallychildren,shouldremainin
thevehiclewhenitislocked.Lockeddoors
makeitmoredifficultforemergencywork-
erstoenterthevehicle,whichputslivesat
risk.

Automatictransmission

tronically.Thetransmissionshiftsupordownau-
tomaticallydependingonwhichdriveprogramis
selected.
Whenamoderatedrivingstyleisused,the
transmissionselectsthemosteconomicaldriving
mode.ThetransmissionupshiftsatalowerRPM
anddownshiftsatahigherRPMtoimprovefuel
efficiency.
Thetransmissionswitchestoasportymodeafter
akick-downor whenthedriverusesasportydriv-
ingstylecharacterizedbyquickacceleratorpedal
movements,heavyacceleration,frequent
changesinspeed,andtravelingatthemaximum
speed.

Stronictransmission
TheStronicisadual-clutchtransmission.Power
istransferredusingtwoclutchesthatworkinde-
pendentlyfromoneanother.Theyreplacethe
torqueconverterusedinconventionalautomatic
transmissionsandallowthevehicletoaccelerate
withoutanoticeableinterruptionintraction.

Generalinformation
Yourvehicleisprimarilyintendedfortransport-
ingpeopleandluggage.However,ifyoudrive
withatrailer,followthetechnicalrequirements,
the operationanddrivingtips,andthelegalreg-
ulations.
Drivingwithatraileraffectsthevehicle'sfuel
consumption,performanceandwear.Italsore-
quireshigherconcentrationfromthedriver.
Z\WARNING
Donottransportanypeopleinatrailerdueto
theriskoffatalinjury.
Technicalrequirements
Certainrequirementsmustbemetwhentowing
atrailer.
Trailerhitch
Only useatrailerhitchwitharemovableball
hitchmountandballhitch.Thetrailerhitchmust
bepermittedforthevehicle,thetrailerandthe
permittedtotalweightofthetrailerbeing
pulled.Aboveall,itmustbesecurelyandsafely
attachedtothevehicletrailer.
Nevermountatrailerhitchonthebumper.The
trailerhitchmustbemountedinawaythatdoes
not impair thefunctionofthebumper.Donot
makeanychangestotheexhaustsystemandthe
brakesystem.
Checkregularlyifthetrailerhitchissecurely
mounted.Alwaysfollowtheinstructionsgivenby
thetrailerhitchmanufacturer.
Trailerbrakes
Ifthetrailerhasitsownbrakesystem,thenfol-
lowthemanufacturerspecifications.However,
thebrakesystemonthetrailermustneverbe
connectedtothevehiclebrakesystem.
Enginecoolingsystem
Drivingwithatrailermeansahigherloadonthe
engineandthecoolingsystem.Thecoolingsys-
temmustbedesignedforadditionalloadand
containenoughcoolant>@.

Longerinclinescannotbedrivenwithouta
suitablecoolingsystem,especiallyiftheout-
sidetemperaturesarehigh.Otherwise,this
increasestheriskofenginedamage.
Operatinginstructions
Severalthingsmustbenotedwhentowinga

Towingcapacity
Yourvehiclecanonlybeoperatedwithclass1or
class2trailers.
Loaddistribution
Poorcargoloadanddistributioncannegatively
impactvehiclehandling.Loadthetrailerbased
onthefollowingcriteriaasmuchaspossible:
—Storeobjectsinthevehicleluggagecompart-
ment,ifpossible.Thevehicleshouldalways
carrytheheaviest possibleloadandthetrailer
shouldhavethelightestpossibleload.
—Distributetheloadinthetrailerso thatthe
heavyobjectsareasclosetotheaxleaspossi-
ble.
—Secureobjectsso thattheydonotslide.
—Utilizethemaximumpermittedtongueweight
ifpossible.
Tires
Setthetirepressureonyourvehiclefora“full
load”;seethetirepressuresticker>page332.If
necessary,alsoadjustthetirepressureonthe
traileraccordingtothemanufacturer'sspecifica-
tions.
Thetrailerandthevehicleshould beequipped
withwintertireswhendrivinginwintertempera-

Thespeedwarningsystemwarnsyouifyouare
exceeding themaximumspeedthatyouhaveset.
Awarningtonewillsoundassoonasyourspeed
exceedsthestoredvalueslightly.Theeein-
dicatorlightandamessageappearintheinstru-
mentclusterdisplayatthesametime.Theol
indicatorlightandthemessageturnoffifthe
speedfallsbackbelowthestoredmaximum
speed.
Settingathresholdisrecommendedifyouwould
liketoberemindedwhenyoureachacertain
maximumspeed.Situationswhereyoumaywant
todosoincludedrivinginacountrywithagener-
alspeedlimitorifthereisaspecifiedmaximum
speedforwintertires.

Regardlessofthespeedwarningsystem,you
shouldalwaysmonitoryourspeedusingthe
speedometerandmakesureyouarefollowing

Cruisecontrolsystem

Thecruisecontrolsystemassiststhedriverin
maintainingaconstantspeedaboveapproxi-
mately 15mph(20km/h).Thesystemmaintains
thedesiredspeedbybrakingandaccelerating.
ZAWARNING
—Alwayspayattentiontothetrafficaround
yourvehiclewhenthecruisecontrolsystem
isinoperation.Asthedriver,youarealways
responsibleforcontrollingyourvehicle
speedandthedistancebetweenyourvehicle
andothervehicles.
—Forsafetyreasons,cruisecontrolshould not
beusedinthecity,instop-and-gotraffic,on
windingroads,andwhenroadconditionsare
poor(suchasice,fog,gravel,heavyrain,
andconditionsthatcouldlead tohydroplan-
ing),becausethisincreasestheriskofanac-
cident.
—Switchthecruisecontrolofftemporarily
whendrivinginturninglanes,highwayexits,
orinconstructionzones.
—Toreducetheriskofanaccident,youshould
