Werecommendhavingtheoilchangedatanau-
thorizedAudidealerorauthorizedAudiService
Facility.
Followthesafetyprecautions>page309,Work-
ingintheenginecompartment.
Theengineoilmustbechangedattheintervals
specifiedintheWarranty&MaintenanceBook-
let.Thisisveryimportantbecausethelubrication
functionoftheoilgraduallydeclinesduringregu-
larvehicleoperation.
Theengineoilshouldbechangedmorefrequent-
lyundercertaincircumstances.Havetheoil
changedmorefrequentlyifyouoftendriveshort
distances,yourvehicleispredominantlyinstop-
and-gotrafficsituations,isinverydustyenviron-
ments,orisoperatedforlongperiodsoftimein
temperaturesbelowzero.
Cleansingadditivesintheoilmakefreshoilap-
peardarkeraftertheenginehasrunbriefly.This
isnormalandnoreasontochangetheengineoil
morefrequentlythanrecommended.
Becausecorrectlydisposingofengineoilisdiffi-
cultandspecialtoolsandtechnicalknowledge
areneededforanoilchange,havingyourengine

thorizedAudiServiceFacilityisrecommended.
Ifyouchangetheengineoilyourself,pleasenote
thefollowingimportantinformation:

Ifyouchangetheengineoilonthevehicle
yourself,thefollowingprecautionsmustbe
followed:
—Wearprotectiveeyewear.
—Duetotheriskofscalding,allowtheengine
to cooldownsufficiently.
—Maintainenoughdistancewhenyouarere-
movingtheoildrainplug.Whiledoingthis,
keep yourforearmparalleltothegroundto
reducetheriskofhotoildrippingdownyour
arm.
—Draintheoilintoacontainerdesignedfor
thispurposethatislargeenoughtoholdthe
fullamountofoilinyourengine.
—Engineoilispoisonous.Alwaysstoreoutof
reachofchildren.
—Prolongedcontactofusedengineoilwith
theskinmaycauseskindamage.Always
washoiloffimmediatelywithsoapand wa-
tertoprotectyourskin.

—Beforechangingtheengineoil,makesure

rectly.
—Engineoilmustalways bedisposedofcor-
rectly.Donot dumpitintheyard,inthefor-
est,orinopenwater,riverchannels,orsew-
ers.
—Haveyour usedengineoilrecycledbybring-
ingittoausedoilcollectionsiteorcontact
agasstation.
Coolingsystem
Theenginecoolingsystemisfilledwithamixture
ofpurifiedwaterandcoolantadditiveatthefac-
tory.Thiscoolantmustnotbenotchanged.
ThecoolantlevelismonitoredthroughtheBin-
dicatorlight>page22.However,occasionally
checkingthecoolantlevelmanuallyisrecom-
mended.
Ifyoumustaddcoolant,useamixtureofwater
andcoolantadditive.Mixing thecoolantadditive
withdistilledwaterisrecommended.
Coolantadditive
Thecoolantadditiveismadeofanti-freezingand
corrosionprotectionagents.Onlyuse thefollow-
ingcoolantadditives.Theseadditivesmaybe
mixedwitheachother.
