Partition screen
The partition screen is designed to prevent loose objects
from flying forward into the passenger compartment (e.g. under sudden braking).

Protective liner
The protective liner should be used for carrying dirty or
wet objects.

The space for stowing the protective liner can be enlarged
by folding the entire cargo floor all the way forward or
removing the entire cargo floor.
Controls and equip ­

Putting the cargo floor in the upright position
-Open the rear lid.
-Holding the handle@~ fig. 118, tip the cargo floor
cover @ up, and align the outer edges in the recesses

-Place the objects to be transported in the protective liner.
Folding the cargo floor forward
-Open the rear lid.
-Grasp the handle@~ fig. 118 and fold the cargo floor
forward all the way to the seat back .
-Secure the attachment eye located in the middle of the
cargo floor in the center hook provided for the compart ­
ment cover/ partition net.
Removing the cargo floor
-Open the rear lid.
-Grasp the handle @~ fig. 118 and fold the cargo floor
forward all the way to the seat back.
-Pull the entire cargo floor rearward out of the brackets @
~ fig. 119.
You can also store small objects below the cargo floor cover @
=> fig. 118.
& WARNING
When the cargo floor is folded upright, the items being trans ­
ported must not exceed the maximum cargo height, 2/3 of the
cargo floor space with the floor folded forward, or a weight of
about 15 lb.

We recommend that you use a tie-down strap to secure objects to
the tie -down eyes on the right and left sides of the vehicle. •

Loading
- Open the rear lid and clear a space in the center.
- Press the button (arrow)

hatch cover to release the cover from the seatback back
panel.
- Inside the passenger compartment, fold the armrest out
of the rear seatback.
- Reach into the recess, release and open the inner hatch
cover .
- Pull out and unfold the ski sack.
- Load skis or similar objects through the luggage
compartment into the interior of the
vehicle~ &.
Securing
-Insert the ski sack strap @~ fig. 123 in the center buckle

Controls and equip ­
ment
- Pull the lose belt end until the belt sits tight@.
Stowing
- In the luggage compartment, close the ski sack hatch
cover.
- Inside the passenger compartment, fold the ski sack up
neat and tight.
- Close and engage the inner hatch cover.
You can now fold the armrest back into the rear seatback.
& WARNING
• The ski sack is intended only for the transportation of skis and
other light objects. To reduce the risk of serious personal injury
never transport heavy or pointed objects in the ski sack.
• When braking rapidly or during an accident the load could be
displaced and cause injury to occupants.
• Sharp edges on the load must be covered for protection.
Always fasten the belt tightly around the sack and its contents
~ fig. 123.
[ i] Tips
Never stow the ski sack away if it's wet or damp (for example, snow
melting from skis). Let it dry completely before you stow it away. •

Roof rack installation
General information
The vehicle is equipped with integrated r oof railings. A
r oo f rack c an be used to carry additional luggage on the
r oo f.
- Always heed and read t he instructions prov ided by the
roo f rack manuf act urer when t he roof rack system must
be installed.
If a roof rack or simi lar luggage carry ing equipment is to be
insta lled, please note the fo llowing :
• T he ve hicle is eq uip ped with
integrated roof railings, which can
be covered into roof rack by installing cross bars . Only insta ll cross
b ars spec ifically des igned for this vehicle .
• These bars are the basis for a comp lete roof rack system . Addi ­
tio nal a ttachments are necessary to safe ly t ransport luggage, b icy ­
cles, surf boards, skis or small boats .
• All n ecessary har dware for these systems is ava ilable from your
authorized Audi dea ler.
When should the ro of r ac k be removed ?
• Before going through an automatic car wash (it is best to ask the
car was h operator}.
• When not in use (reduce fuel consumption, reduce wind noise
and guard agai nst theft).
_& WARNING
• Use of an unappro ved roof ra ck or incorre ct mounting of an
approved roof rack can cause the roof rack or the items carried on
it to fall off the roof onto the ro ad .

• Objects falling from the roof of a vehi cle can cause a crash and
per sonal injury .
• Only mount the sy stem between the markings shown in
=> page 11 7, fig. 124.
• The roof ra ck sy stem must be installed exactly according to the
instruct ions prov ided.

• Any damage to the vehicle caused by using roof racks or other
t ypes o f cross bars that have not been approved by Audi for y our
vehic le, or incorrect roof rack instal lation, is not covered by the
Warranty .
• Always check the roof rack mountings and hardware before each
t rip and during a trip to make s ure everyth ing is securely tightened .
If necessary, retighten the mountings and check the entire system
from time to time.
• After mounting a roof rack system, or when you transport
objects on the roo f of your vehicle, the height of the vehicle is natu ­
ra lly increased . Be carefu l when driving under low bridges or in
park garages for example . Th is cou ld cause damage to the vehic le
and even the load. •

Mount the front and rear cross bars between the punched markings
on the inside of the roof rail ings => fig. 124 -arrows -.

vehicles withou t roof rai ls . For safe mounti ng, t hese require a
different design of roof rack .•
Loading the roof rack
Alw ays distri bute the loads evenly . Make sure anything on
the roof r ock is tied down securely.
Always distribute the loads on the roof rack evenly .

Always secure items to the roo f rack.
The maximum perm issible roof weight is 16 5 lb (75 kg ). The roof
weight is made up of the weight of the roof rack system and the
weight of the object being transported :=:>
page 341.
When using a roof rack system which has a lower load carrying capacity, you must not use the tota l maximum permissible load
carrying capacity. If this is the case, you may load the roof rack
system only to the maximum capacity specified by the manufac ­
turer of the roof rack system .
& WARNING
Weak, damaged or imp rope r strap s used to sec ure items to the
roof rack can fail during hard braking or in a collision and c aus e
se rious per son al injury .
• Alway s use suitabl e mounting strap s and properly secure
it em s to the prop erly in sta lled roof ra ck to help pre vent item s from
shifting or flying forward .
• Items on the r oof rack must al ways be securely mou nted.
• The use of a roof r ack can n egatively affect the w ay a vehi cle
h and les. C arg o th at is large , he avy, bulky , long or flat will have a
g reater negativ e influence on the vehicle' s aerodynamic s, ce nter
of grav ity and overall h andling . Alway s drive slo wly, a vo id sudden
braking and m aneuver s when t ran sp orting cargo on the roof of
your vehicle .
• Never exc eed the maximum permi ssible load carrying capa city
of the roof of your vehi cle, the p ermissibl e axle weights and the
perm issible tot al weight of your vehicle :=:>

• Alway s drive s lowly, avoid sudden br ak ing and m aneuvers
when tran sporting cargo on the roof of your vehicle .
<£> For the sake of the environment
Sometimes it may be easier to leave a roof rack insta lled even

Spilled hot liquid can cau se an accident and pe rsonal injury .
• Never carry any beverage containers with hot liquid s, such as
hot coffee or hot tea , in the vehi cle while it i s moving . In case of an
accident , sudden braking or other vehicle movement , hot liquid
could spill , cau sing scalding burns. Spilled hot liquid can also
c ause an ac cident and personal injury .
• Use only soft cups in the cup holder . Hard c ups and gla sses can
c au se injury in an accident.

Steering
Adjusting the steering wheel column
The height and reach of the steering wheel can be
adjusted.

First, adjust the driver's seat correctly.
- Push the
lever => fig. 142 -Arrow- =>& .
Move the steering wheel to the desired position.
- Push the lever against the steering column unt il it locks.
There must be at least 10 inches (25 cm) between your breastbone
and the center of the steering wheel. If you cannot sit more than 10
inches (25 cm) from the steering wheel,
we recommend that you
investigate whether adaptive equipment is available to help you
reach the pedals and increase your seating distance from the
steering wheel. For detailed information on how to adjust the driver's seat, see
=> page 97, "Power seat adjustment"
.
& WARNING
Improper use of steering wheel adjustment and improper seating
position can cause serious personal injury .
• Adjust the steering wheel column only when the vehicle is not
moving to prevent loss of vehicle control.
• Always make sure that the adjustment lever is securely pushed
up so that the position of the steering wheel cannot be changed
unintentionally when the vehicle is moving.
• Adjust the driver's seat or steering wheel so that there is a
minimum of 10 inches (25 cm) between your breastbone and the
steering
wheel ~ page 168, fig. 162. If you cannot maintain this
minimum distance the airbag system cannot protect you properly.
• If physical limitations prevent you from sitting 10 inches (25
cm) or more from the steering wheel, check with your authorized
Audi dealer to see if adaptive equipment is available.
• Pointing the steering wheel toward your face decreases the
ability of the supplemental driver's airbag to protect you in an
accident. Always make sure that the steering wheel is pointed
towards your chest .
• Always hold the steering wheel on the outside of the steering
wheel rim with your hands at the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock positions
to help reduce the risk of personal injury if the driver's airbag inflates.
• Never hold the steering wheel at the 12 o'clock position or with
your hands at other positions inside the steering wheel rim or on
the steering wheel hub. Holding the steering wheel the wrong way
can cause serious injuries to the hands, arms and head if the
driver's airbag inflates.
•

Before you move the selector lever from the P position, you must
always apply the break peda l before and wh ile depressing the
button in the handle of the selector lever.
& WARNING
• Unintended vehicle movement can cause serious injury .
- When the selector lever is in a driving position , the vehicle
may creep even at idle speed . Therefore do not release the
parking brake or foot brake until you are ready to move ,
becau se power is transmitted to the wheels as soon as a
driving po sition is engaged .
- Do not accelerate while se lecting a driving po sition . At this
time the engine must run at idle speed so that no undue stress
will be pla ced on the automatic clutche s in the tra nsmiss ion .
- Remember :
-even when stopped briefly with the automatic
transmis sion in
"D ", "S ", or "R ", eng ine power i s being tran s­
mitted to the wheels . Your vehicle could
" creep " forward or
back ward . When at a stop , keep the bra ke pedal fully
depressed and use the parking brake if necessar y to keep the
vehicle from rolling.
• If the selector lever i s unintentionally moved into N while you
a re driving , take your foot off the ac ce lerator pedal and wait to idle
speed before select ing a driving pos ition.
• Never shift into
"R " or "P " when the vehicle is in motion .
• Never get out of the driver 's seat when the engine is running .
• If you mu st get out of the veh icle , move the selector lever
securely into the P position and apply the parking brake firmly.
• If the engine mu st keep running , never h ave any driving posi­
tion engaged when checking under the hood. Make sure the selecto r lever has securely engaged and locked on
"P " with the
parking brake firmly set.

Otherwise , an y increase in engine speed may set the vehicle in
motion , even with the parking brake applied. •

The selector lever position engaged appears next to the selector

P -Park
In this selector lever position the t ransmission is m echanically
locked .
En gage
P on ly when the veh icle i s completely stopped => & in

To shift in or out of position
P , you must first press and hold the
brake peda l and then press the release bu tton in the selector lever
handle while moving the selector lever to
P .
R -Reverse
The transmission will automatically select the lowest gear rat io
wh en y ou shi ft into reverse .
