In order fo r the t ire pressure monitoring system to operate
accurately , you have to
re-save the specified pressures
whenever you adjust t ire pressure, for example , when t he
l oad conditio n of you r vehicle changes . Proceed as follows :
Correct the tire pressure
Check the pressure in the t ires (i ncluding the spare tire).
Adjust the air pressure as needed in accordance w ith the
i nformation on the tire pressure label.
Reset the system
- Push the (RESET ] button=> page 43, fig. 29 until Display
Type =>
fig. 30 appears.
- Push in the upper (lower) protrusion on the function
selector switch @to select the
Set option. •

Driver inf orma tion d ispl ay
Your tire change is incomplete if you do not access the Driver Infor­
mation System menu, and select and confirm
Wh eel ch ange. You
must do this each time to change a tire . The procedure can take up
to 20 minutes driving time. During this time, the sensors are read ­
justing to the new wheel/tire combination, and the new pressures are stored.
During the learning phase, the tire pressure monitoring system is
not available. •

Malfunctions
A malfunction can have various causes.

If the 'warning light in the instrument cluster flashes for approxi ­
mately one minute and then remains continuously illuminated and
additional ly the --, -=> fig. 35 symbol appears in the display, the
tire pressure monitoring system is not available. This can have
various causes.
• If the message appears a t the end of the learning phase, the
system cannot recognize the wheels installed on the vehicle . This
can be because one or more wheels without a wheel sensor were
installed.
• A wheel sensor or other component may have failed. •
The system has detected more than 4 wheels in the vehicle, for
example while driving beneath another car with tire pressure moni ­
toring system.
• A tire was changed but the=>
page 45, "Changing a wheel"
procedure was not activated =>
page 45.
• Audi replacement parts were not used.
• If snow chains are being used, system function can be compro ­
m ised due to the shielding properties of the chains.
• The tire pressure monitoring system may not be ava ilable
because of a radio malfunction.
• Transmi tters with the same frequency, such as radio head ­
phones in the vehicle or radio equipment, can cause a temporary
disruption of the system through excessive electromagnetic fields.
• Try to find the cause of the interference, and then perform the
=>
page 45 , "Changing a wheel" procedure one more time . If this not
e liminate the prob lem, contact your authorized Audi dealer for
assistance .
• Do not use commercial ly availab le tire sealants . Otherwise, the
e lec trical components of the tire pressure monitoring system will
no longer work properly and the sensor for the tire pressure moni­
toring system wi ll have to be rep laced by a qua lified workshop .•

Master key battery replacement
Each master key contains a battery housed under the
cover.

We recommend having the battery changed by an autho­
rized dealership. However, if you wish to replace the dead
battery yourself, proceed as follows:
- Pry apart the base=> fig. 39
@ and the cover @carefully
with a coin.
- Remove the cover (arrow).
- Remove the dead battery from the cover.
- Install the new battery. Please make certain that the"+"
sign on the battery faces down. Correct polarity is shown
on the cover.
- Place the cover with the new battery on the key base and
press both parts together.

Dispose of dead batteries properly so as not to pollute the environ ­
ment.

The replacement battery must be the same specification as the
original. •
Electronic immobilizer
The immobilizer helps to prevent unauthorized use of
your vehicle.
A computer chip inside your key automatically deactivates the elec­
tronic immobilizer when you insert the key in the ignition lock.
When you remove the key from the ignition lock, the electronic
immobilizer is automatically activated once again.
If an unauthorized key was used,
SAFE is displayed continuously in
the odometer display field.
in. WARNING
Always take the key with you when you leave the vehicle. The key
can disarm the electronic engine immobilizer and permit an unau­
thorized person to start the engine and enable operation of the
vehicle systems such as power window or power top leading to
serious personal injury.

• Your engine can only be started using the factory -equipped key.
• You may not be able to start your vehicle if an ignition key of a
different vehicle make is also located on your set of keys.

Power top
Normal operation
General information
The power top is designed for quick and easy operation. The power
top opens and closes automatically by itself . When the top is folded
dow n, it is stored in a special compartment and hidden under a
cover.
The power top is both wind -and waterproof under normal oper ­
ating conditions . Only under extreme weather conditions, for
examp le, a violent burst of rain or torrentia l rainfall, can a few drops
of water possibly form inside the roof. This is normal and no cause
for concern.
To maintain the appearance of the power roof and to keep it water ­
proof , read the information on roof care in=> page
233, "Power top
care". In addition to this, please note the following:
• Always open or close the power roof on ly when it is clean . Other­
wise particles of dirt can scratch the rear window when the power
top fo lds down . The particles can chafe a nd damage the fabric over
a period of time. It is a lso important to remove ice and snow before
opening the power roof.
• Do not use a sharp object or any other tools, which cou ld scratch
t he fabr ic when removing ice or snow. A normal ice scraper can be
used to remove ice from the rear window.
• The power roof should be opened only when it is completely dry .
I f you open and store the power roof when it is wet, unsight ly marks
or mildew can form if left for long per iods of time .
• Never leave the roof open for severa l weeks at a time. You should
close it occasiona lly to prevent discoloration in the folds of the
fabric and to allow the creases to smooth out. This is especially
impor tan t if t he top has once been s tored away when it was not
completely dry .

P ow er top
• Do not open the power when it is colder than 32 °F (0 °C). At
these temperatures, the fabric is less flexible.
L1}. WARNING
• For safety reasons never open or close the power top when the
v ehi cle is moving .
• Never drive the vehicle without the power top securely locked
in the closed po sition . If it i s not firml y en gaged , the top can be
blown open by the airstream and cau se in jur ies and damage to the
vehi cle . - Risk of cr ash!
• When opening and closing the power top m ake sure to keep
yo urself and other s clear of all moving pa rt s. Risk of injury!
• During opera tion of the power top the head clearance in the
re ar of the vehi cle is r edu ced . Alw ay s m ake sure that rea r seat
p assen gers keep clear of the power top a s it is being opened or
cl osed . Ri sk of injury!

• The power top can only be operated w ith the ignition switched
on.
• To avoid unnecessary strain on the battery, you should not open
and c lose the top several times in a row when the e ngine is n ot
running.
• The display in the ins trument cluster will indicate if a pr otective
feature of the power top has been activated or if a malfunction
occurs ~ page

• In case of a ma lfunction the power top can be operated manu­
a lly. This is intended for a limited time only~ page

The bottom of the variable storage bay can only be raised
when the top is closed and NOT folded up inside the bay.

The storage bay bottom can only be lifted when the top i s clos ed
and NOT folded up in side the ba y.
This creates more space in the
luggage compartment . The storage bay base must be in the lowered
position before the top can be lowered.
When the top
o pe ns it folds down completely into the storage bay
des igned to contain it. Only with the storage bay expanded is it
poss ible to open the top . This feature prevents the top from forcing
i t s way down agains t objects blocking its storage space . For this
reason your vehicle has less luggage capacity when the top is down
than when it is up and closed . It is not possible to lift the base of the
storage bay when it contains the folded down top .•
Messages in the instrument cluster display
If the power top fails to activa te when you operate the
control switch, a message will appear in the display to
indicate what is wrong.
Before the power top can start to open or close automatically, a
number of conditions must be met . The systems checks, for
instance, if the storage bay has been expanded before the power
top opens.
The instrument c luster disp lay will generate a message if one of
these condi tions does not check right or if a malfunction occurs .
Power top: ple ase clo se rear lid
The lid on the trunk must always be closed when opening or closing
t he power top . This message will appear in the display if the trunk
lid is not closed .
Power top: pl ease low er stor age ba y
The variable storage bay must be in the lowered (expanded) posi ­
tion before the power top can be opened=> page 64 . This message
will appear in the display if the variable storage bay is not in the lowered position (lever to the right) when opening the power top. ..,

Power top not operating
This message wi ll appear in the display if the power top has been
deactivated for safety reasons or if there is a malfunction. Possible
causes are:
• vehicle speed t oo high: the power top operation is deactivated
for safety reasons if the vehic le is mov ing at a speed above 3 mph
(5 km/hi.
• battery voltage too low: the power top wil l not operate if the
battery voltage is too low . This is a precautionary feature to make
s u re that the re is always enough battery power avai lable to start the
engine. The power top can be activated again once the engine has
been started and is running.
• ove rload cut -off: if the power top is operated repeatedly the
hydraulic actuator components will be severely stressed . In this
case the over load cut -off will safeguard the system against damage.
This safeguard deactiva tes the system fo r abou t 15 to 30 minutes.
After this time the power top can be operated again as usual=> & .
• Malfunction: One possible cause of a malfunction is the fai lure
of a system component. In this case the power top can a lso be
manual ly operated =>
page 68. Turning off the ignition during the
opening or closing process may cause a malfunction. You can
correct this yourself=>
page 65.

Power top not locked in place
If the top has not opened or closed completely and the vehicle
moves then at a speed above 3 mph (5 km/h), this
warning will
appear in the instrument cluster display. Stop the vehicle. Open or
close the power top completely. The warning should disappear .

Never drive the car with a power top that is not securely lock ed in

process may cause a malfunction.

Sensor activated head -and tail light control
In the "AUTO" position, light sensors monitor outside light
conditions and s witch the head- and t ail lights on and off
as required.

- Turn the light switch to posit ion 0.
In the switch position AUTO the automati c head -a nd ta il light
contr ol
is activated . The corresponding symbol on the light switch
is lit.
Light sensors located in the ins ide mirror housing and stem
constantly check the light conditions surrounding the vehicle . If
ambient brightness falls below a factory set value (e .g. when driving
into a tunnel), the head -and tai llights including the license plate
illumination are automatically turned on. When ambient brightness
increases again, the external lights are turned off again

• In the AUTO mode , the low beams are turned off when the igni ­
tion is turned off. The remaining lights are turned off when the key is taken out of the ignition lock.
• Do not at tach stickers to the windshield in front of the sensors as
this can disable the automatic head- and taillight contro l and the
automatic glare -dimming of the rearview mirror(s).
• Always observe the specific local regulations for your area when
to use your lights .
• In the event of a light sensor malfunction, the driver information
display wi ll show the sy mbol -.
If a light sensor malfu nction is indi ­
cated, you must use the light switch to turn the low beams on and
off. a

• Do not attach any stickers to the windshield in front of the two
light sensors, as this would interfere with both the automatic oper ­
ation of the head ligh ts and the automatic dimming of the inside
mirror(s).
• If the veh icle is remotely un locked and locked
three times in
succession,
leaving home will not turn on the lights a fourth time to
safeguard the battery and lights.
• If you wish to use the coming home/leaving home function regu ­
larly, you can leave it activated at all times wi thout risking perma­
nent strain on the electrical system. As the system is contro lled by
light sensors, i t wi ll only b e energi zed in darkness.
• Frequent use of the coming home/leaving home function for
approac hin g and departing a vehicle parked in the dark wi ll strain
the batte ry. This applies particularly if only short distances are
driven between stops . Occasiona lly drive longer distances to make
sure the battery is recharged sufficient ly.
• If the fo g lights have been switched on by the coming
home/leaving home function, they will always be switched off when
you switch on the ig nition. •

Xenon headlights
After s tarting the engine, the xenon headligh ts are automatically
adjusted to the load and angle of the vehicle (for example, during
acce leration and brak ing) . This prevents oncoming tra ffic from
experienc ing unnecessa ry glare from your head lights .
If the system is not operating properly, a warning sy mbol in the

Emergency flasher &.
The emergency flasher makes other mot orists aw are that

When the emergency flasher is on, al l four turn signa l blink at the
same time . The turn signal indicator lights¢¢ in the instrument

The emergency flasher will automatica lly switch on if you are in an
accident where the airbag has deployed .
[ i ] Tips
You should switch on the emergency flasher when :
• you are the last vehicle stand ing in a t raffic jam so that any other
veh ic les coming can see you , or when
• your vehic le has broken down or you are in an emergency situa ­
tion, or when
• your veh ic le is being towed by a tow truck or if you are towing
another vehicle behind you .•

Clear vision
selector lever into R (Reverse). This feature provides a better view of
the curb when you are backing into a parking space.
The mirror returns to its initial position as soon as reverse gear is disengaged and vehicle speed is above about 9 mph (15 km/h). The
mirror also returns to its initial position if the switch is moved to the
driver's outside mirror © or@ .
Memory setting for the outside mirrors*
On vehicles with the memory function*, when you store a seat posi ­
tion in the memory, the position of the outside mirrors is also stored
in the memory =>
page 101.
0 Note
• Curved (i.e. convex) mirror surfaces increase your field of view.
Remember that vehicles or other objects will appear smaller and
farther away than when seen in a flat mirror . If you use this mirror to
estimate distances of following vehicles when changing lanes, you
could estimate incorrectly and cause an accident.
• If the mirror housing is moved unintentionally (for example,
while parking your vehicle), then you must first fold the mirror elec­
trically. Do not readjust the mirror housing manually. You could
damage the motor which controls the mirror.

I f there should be a malfunction in the electrical system, you can
still adjust the outside mirrors by pressing the edge of the mirror. •

Automatic dimming for the outside mirrors *
The outside mirrors dim at the same time as the inside mirror. When
th e ignition is switched on, the mirrors automatically dim
depending on the amount of flight striking the mirrors (such as
headlights shining into the vehicle from the rear). When you switch on the interior light, or when you move the
selector lever into
R (Reverse), the dimming function stops and the
mirrors return to their original condition (not darkened).
[ i] Tips
The automatic dimming feature on the mirrors will not operate
properly if the light shining on the mirrors is blocked by other
objects .•
Digital compass

Activating or deactivating the compass
The direction is displayed on the interior rear view mirror.

To activate or deactivate, hold the©~ fig. 102 button
down until the red display appears or disappears.
The digital compass only works with the ignition turned on. The
directions are displayed as initials:
N (North), NE (Northeast), E
(East), SE (Southeast), S (South), SW (Southwest), W (West), NW
(Northwest).
