Notice about data recorded by
vehicle control modules
Your vehicle is not equipped with an Event Data Recorder (EDRl,
installed by some manufacturers for the express purpose of
capturing data for retrieval after an accident or crash event . EDR's
are sometimes called "crash recorders" .
Some state laws restrict the retrieva l or downloading of data stored
by EDR's that were insta lled in a vehicle for the express purpose of
retrieving data after an accident or crash event without the owner's
consent.
Although your vehicle is not equipped with an EDR, it is equipped
with a number of electronic control modules for various vehicle systems such as, for examp le, engine function, emission control, as
we ll as for the airbags and safety belts.
T hese electronic control modules also record vehic le-rela ted da ta
during norma l ve hicle operation for diagnost ic and repair purposes .
The recording capacity of the electronic control modules is limited
to data (no sound is recorded) and only a small amount of data is
actually recorded over a very limited period of time and stored when
a system fault or other condition is sensed by a control unit. Some
of the data then stored may relate to vehic le speed, d irection,
braking as we ll as restraint system use and performance in the
event of a crash or other condition . Stored data can only be read and
down loaded with special equipment. •
Electronic Stabilization Program (ESP)
General information
The ESP improves the vehicle s tability.

ESP is designed to he lp you maintain vehic le control in situa tions
where the car approaches the limits of "grip", especially when acce lerating and cornering . ESP reduces the risk of skidding and
improves stability under all road conditions .
The syst em opera tes across the en tire speed range in combination
with the ABS system. If the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) malfunc ­
tions, the ESP wil l a lso shut down .
How th e sys te m work s
The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) , E lectronic Differential Lock (EDU
and the Anti -Sl ip Regu lation System (ASR) are integrated in the e lec­
tronic stabi li z ation program. In addition to the data provided by
these functions, the ESP control unit requires additional measure­ ment data provided by high performance sensors . T he rotational
speed of the vehic le about its ver tica l axis, t he late ral acce leration
acting on the vehic le, the brake pressure and the steering ang le are
a ll measured .

Plastic parts and instrument panel
A lways use a c lean cloth moistened in clear water to clean these
areas . For persistent dirt use an Audi approved
solvent-free plastic
cleaner/protectant.
& WARNING
Solvents can change the properties of some plastics and make it
harder for the airbag to deploy .
• Never clean the instrument panel or the surfa ce of Airbag
module s with c leaning produ cts that contain sol vents .
• Products containing solvent s will make the surface of th is part
porous .
• Serious injuries can re sult if plastic parts come loo se when the
airbag is deployed .
• Alway s read and heed all WARNINGS and the information
~ page 230 .

Natural leather
Audi makes great effor ts to maintain the proper ties,
n at ural look an d feel of in terior le ather.
General
We offer many different types of leather on our vehic les . Most are
d iff erent types of nappa leather, which has a smoo th surface and
comes in various co lors .
The in tens ity of the c olor de termines the visua l characteristics and
appearance. I f the surface of the leather has a typ ical natu ra l loo k,
then the leather is a nappa leather that has been left in a re latively
natura l condition. This leathe r off ers pa rticu larly good com fort and
breathes we ll. Fine veins, closed grains, insect bites, skin folds, and
su btle varia tions in c olor remain visib le . These characterist ics
demonstrate that the material is natural.
Natura l nappa lea ther is not c ove red by a color finish. It is th erefo re
more sensitive to soiling and wear, which is something you need to
consider if children, animals or other factors might prove to be
particularly hard on the leather .
By contrast, leather types that are covered by a colored finish layer
are m ore dura ble. This has a pos itive effect on the lea ther's resis­
tance to wear and soiling in daily use. On the other hand, the typical
c haracte ristics of natura l leather are barely or not appa re nt.
However , this does not mean that the leather itse lf is of inferior
quality.
Care and handling
Because of the exclusive nature of the types of leat her that Audi
uses and their unique properties (such as sensitivity to oi ls, grease ,
s o iling, etc.), y ou will need to be somewhat ca ref ul w ith t hese
leathers, and a certain type of care is required . For example, dark
c lothing materials can discolor leathe r seats (especially if such
clothing is damp and was not dyed correctly!. Dust and dirt particles .,_

• The engine compartment of any motor vehicle is a potentially
hazardous area . Never reach into the area around or touch the
radiator fan . It is temperature controlled and can sw itch on
suddenly -even when the engine is off and the ignition key has
been removed . The radiator fan switches on automatically when
the coolant reaches a certain temperature and will continue to run until the coolant temperature drops .
• Always remove the ignition key before anyone gets under the
vehi cle .
• Always support your vehicle with safety stands if it is neces ­
sary to work underneath the vehicle . The jack suppl ied with the
vehicle is not adequate for this purpose and could collapse causing serious personal injury .
• If you must work underneath the vehicle with the wheels on
the ground, always make sure the veh icle is on level ground , that
the wheels are always securely blocked and that the engine
cannot be sta rted .
• Always make sure the transmission selector lever (automatic
transmission) is in "P " (Park position ) or Neutral (manual transm is­
sion) and the park brake is firmly applied.

• Cha ng ing t he e ngine sett ings will adverse ly aff ect em iss ion
l eve ls. This is detrimenta l to the environment and increases fuel
co nsu mp tio n .
• Always observe environmental regu lations when disposing of
ol d eng ine oil, u sed br ake fluid , d irty e ngin e coo la nt , spe nt batter ies
or worn out tires.
