first under hard braking. Rear wheel lock
up can cause loss of vehicle control and

slowly and avoid sudden, hard brake ap
plications.
- Canada models: If the brake warning
light . and the ABS warning light

come on together, the rear wheels could
lock up first under hard braking. Rear
wheel lock-up can cause loss of vehicle
control and an accident. Have your vehi
cle repaired immediately by your author
ized Audi dea ler or a qualified workshop.
Drive slowly and avo id sudden, hard
brake applicat ions.
I I !f Safety systems
The fl (USA models),£,1 (Canada models) in
dicator light monitors the safety systems (e.g.
airbags, pretensioners) and ill uminates for a
few seconds each time you switch the ignition
on.
If the fl (USA models)/ fll (Canada mode ls)
indicator light does not go out, or if it illumi
nates while you are driv ing, or if it starts to
blink, then there is a ma lfunction somewhere
in the system.
If the light does not illuminate
when you switch the ignition on, this also
means there is a malfunction.
& WARNING
If you have a malfunction in the safety sys
tems, contact your author ized Audi dealer
immediate ly. Otherw ise the safety sys
t ems may not work properly in an acci
dent.

If the warning light illuminates, immediately
contact your authorized Audi dealer or quali
fied workshop to have all brake pads inspect ed . On USA models the warn ing light

comes on together with the warning light

A WARNING
Driving with bad brakes can cause a colli
sion and serious personal injury.

EPC Electronic power control
This warning/indicator light monitors the
electronic power control.
The ~ warning/indicator light (Electronic
Power Control) illuminates when you switch
the ignition on as a function check.
(D Tips
If this warning/ indicator light illuminates
while you are driving, then there is a mal
funct ion in the engine electronics. Have
the malfunction corrected as soon as pos
s ib le by your authorized Audi dealer or
qualified repa ir facility.
Ci Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
T he Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is par t
of the On-Board Diagnostic (OBD II) system.

The symbo l ¢4' lights up when the ignition is
switched on and will turn off after the engine
has started and has settled at a constant idle

speed. This ind icates that the MIL is working
properly.
The warning light illuminates when there is a
mal funct ion in the engine e lectronic system.
Contact your authorized Audi dealer and have
the ma lfunction corrected .
An improperly closed fuel filler cap may also
cause the MIL light to illum inate

engine control malfunction. Th e~ indicator
l ight in the instrument cluster also illumi
nates. The engine speed is lim ited to the
speed displayed in the driver information sys
tem . Keep in mind that the engine speed will
not exceed the va lue displayed in the driver in
formation system, for example when down
shifting.

ately to have the malfunction corrected .

sage a ppears, the light/ rain senso r is not

AUTO.
However, you can conti nue to turn the lights
o n and off using the light switch. Yo u can st ill
control a ll functions that are independent of
the ra in sensor through the w indshield w iper
l ever .
Contact your a uthorized Aud i dea ler as soon
as possible to have the problem co rrected .
Q Adaptive dampers
Applies to vehicles: with Audi drive select

If the B symbol in the disp lay comes on, there
is a ma lf u nction in the adaptive dampers.

l!J Ignition lock defective
There is a malfunction in the electron ic igni
tion lock. Please go to an authorized Aud i
dealer or other qualified workshop to have the
malfunct ion repaired.
¢ Q Turn signals
Whenever you use the left II or the right IJ
turn signal, the indicator light blinks. When
you use the emergency flashers, both indica
tor lights flash .
If one of the turn signal light bulbs burn out,
the turn signal will blink twice as fast as nor
mal. Carefully drive to your authorized Audi
dealer immediately to have the malfunction
corrected.

up . The power w indow switches in the rear
doors are switched off.
A WARNING
- When you leave your veh icle - even if on
ly briefly - always remove the ign ition
key. This applies part icularly when chil
dren remain in the vehicle. Otherw ise the
children cou ld s tart the engine or oper
ate e lectr ica l equipment (e.g . power win
dows). The power windows a re f unction
al until the driver's door or passenger's
door has been opened.
- Pay close attention when closing the win
dows to prevent pinching of hands or
limbs.
- When locking the vehicle from outside,
the vehicle must be unoccupied s ince the
windows can no longer be opened in an
emergency.

After the ignition has been switched off,
the w indows can still be opened or closed
for about 10 minutes. The power windows
are not switched off until the driver's door
or passenger's door has been opened .
Convenience opening/closing
The windows and the power sunroof can be
opened and closed with the mechanical key or the emergency key.

adaptive light*
When switched on, adaptive light adapts to
curves in the road depending on the vehicle
speed and the steering angle. This provides
b etter lighting through the curve . The system
operates at speeds between app roximately
6 mph (10 km/h) and 68 mph (110 km/h).
Static cornering light* (vehicles with adaptive
light) - the cornering light switches on at
speeds up to approximately 25 mph (40 km/
h) when a certain steering wheel angle is
reached or when a turn signal is activated. The
area to the side of the vehicle is illuminated
better when turning .
The adaptive light and the co rnering light only
function when the switch is in the AU TO posi
tion (automatic headlights*) .
A WARNING
--
- Daytime running lights and automatic
headlights* are only intended to assist
the driver . They do not relieve the driver
of his responsibility to check the head
lights and to turn them on manually ac
cording to the current light and visibility
conditions. For example, fog cannot be
detected by the light sensors*. So always
switch on the headlights
io under these
weather conditions and when driving in
the dark.
- Crashes can happen when you cannot see
the road ahead and when you cannot be
seen by other motorists. Always turn on
the headlights so that you can see ahead
and so that others can see your car from
the back.
- Please obey all laws when using the
lighting systems described here.

The rear fog lights* should only be turned
on in accordance with traffic regulation, as
the lights are bright for following traffic. ..,.

-The light sensor * for headl ight control is
l ocated in the rear view m irror mount.
You should therefore not apply any st ick
ers to the windsh ield in this area in order
to prevent malfunctions or failures .
- Some exterior lighting functions can be
adjusted

-When yo u remove you r key from the igni
tion w hile the vehicle's lights are turned
on, a buzzer sounds as long as the driv
er's door is open.
- In cool or damp weather, t he ins ide of
the headlights, turn signa ls and tail
li ghts can fog ove r due to the tem pera
ture diffe ren ce betw een the inside and
outside. They will clear shor tly after
swi tching t hem on. This d oes not aff ect
the service life of the ligh ting.
- In the even t of a ligh t sensor malfunc
tion, the drive r is no tifie d in the inst ru
ment cluster disp lay ~

When the light switch is in the AUTO

lights can be changed in the automatic driving
light function.
Daytime running lights
USA model s: You can switch the day time run
ni ng lights
on and off .
Canada mod els: The function cannot be
turned off .
It is activated automat ica lly each
time the ign ition is switched o n.
Travel mode*
The headlight beam is asymmetrical. This pro
vides stronger illum ination on the s ide of the
road on wh ich you are driving . If you a re driv
ing i n a count ry that d rives on the opposite
side of the road from you r own country, th is
will cause glare for oncoming dr ivers. To pre
ve nt glare :
- T rave l mode must be selected in vehicles
with Xenon headlights*.
- In vehicles with halogen head lights, certain
areas of the head light lenses must be cov
ered w ith wate rproof adhesive covers tha t
p revent light from passing through. For
more information, p lease see your author
i zed Audi dea ler or author ized repai r fac ility .
@ Tips
When trave l mode is activate d, a display in
the driver information system indicates
this each time you switch t he ignitio n on.
Emergency flashers

The emergency flashers makes other moto
rists aware that you or your vehicle are in an
emergency situation .

When the emergency flas hers are on, all fo ur

You can indicate a lane change or a t urn when
the emergency flashers are switched on by us
ing t he turn signal lever. The emergency flash
ers stop temporarily .
T he emergency flashers also work when the
ignition is turned off .
T he emergency flashers wi ll turn on automat i
ca lly if yo u are in an accident where the airbag
has deployed.

fic jam so that any other vehicles corning can see you, o r whe n

If the switch is in the center position, the in te
rior lights turn on automatically when you un
lock the vehicle, open a door or remove the ig
n ition key . The inter ior lights turn
off several
seconds after your close the doors , when you
l ock the vehicle or when you turn the ig nition
on. When a door is open, the light turns
off
after a few minutes.

Instrument illumination
The basic brightness of the illumination for
the instruments, the center console and the
display can be adjusted.

The instrument illumination (for dials and
needles) lights on when the ignition is
switched on and the vehicle lights are
turned off . As the daylight fades, the illu
mination of the dials likewise d ims auto
matically and w ill go out completely when
the outs ide light is very low. This feature is
meant to rem ind you to sw itch on the
headlights when outs ide light conditions
become poor .

To help you see the curb when backing into a
pa rking space, the surface of the m irror t ilts
slig htly . The knob m ust be in the
P posit ion
for this to happen .
You can ad just the ti lted mirro r surface by
turning the knob in the desired direction .
When you move out of reverse and into ano th
e r gear, t he new mirror posi tion is stored and
assigned to the key you are using .
The mir ro r goes bac k into its origina l posit io n
once yo u drive forward f aste r tha n 9 mph
(1 5 km/h) or switch the ignition off .
_& WARNING
Curved mirror s urfaces (convex or spheri
cal *) increase your field of view . Remem
ber that vehicles or other objects will ap
pear smaller and farther away than when
seen in a flat m irror. If you use this mirror
to estimate distances of following veh icles
when c hanging lanes , you co uld estimate
incorrectly and ca use an accident .

- If you wash the vehicle in an automatic
ca r wash, you must fold t he exterior m ir
r o rs in to reduce the r is k of damage to
the mirrors .

Electro lyte fluid can leak from automatic
d imm ing mirrors if the glass is b roken .
E lec trolyte fluid can irritate skin, eyes a nd
r espirato ry system.
- Repeated or prolonged expos ure to e lec
trolyte can cause irritation to the respira
t ory syste m, especially among people
with asthma or o ther resp irator y condi
tions . Ge t fresh air immediately by leav
ing the vehicle o r, if that is no t possib le,
open windows and doors all the way.
- If electroly te gets into the eyes, fl ush
them thorough ly with large amounts of
clean water fo r at least 15 minutes;
medical attention is recommended.
- If electrolyte contacts skin, fl ush affect
ed area with clean water fo r at least 15
minutes and then wash affected area
with soap and water; medical attention
is recommended. Thoroughly wash af
fected cloth ing and shoes before reuse.
