If the r.:J indicator light turns on, a bulb has
failed. The message indicates the location of the
bulb.
- If the Im indicator light also turns on, then a
fog light has failed. The position of the indica­
tor light corresponds with the location on the
vehicle.
- If the II indicator light also turns on, then a
rear fog* light has failed. The position of the in­
dicator light corresponds with the location on
the vehicle.
This warning can also occur if the light switch is
in an unengaged position between two symbols.
Vehicle lights: System fault!
If the message appears, there is a malfunction in
the headlights or light switch.
Drive to your authorized Audi dealer immediately
to have the malfunction corrected.
Instruments and indicator lights
A WARNING
-Light bulbs are pressurized and could ex­
plode while they are being changed causing
serious personal injury.

adaptive light*
When switched on, adap tive ligh t ad ap ts to
curves in the road depending on the vehicle
speed and the steering ang le. This provides bet­
ter light ing through the curve. The system oper­
ates at speeds between approximately 6 mph
(10 km/h) and 68 mph (110 km/h).
Static cornering light* (vehicles with adaptive
li ght) -the corne ring light switches on at speeds
up to approximate ly 25 mph (40 km/h) when a
certain steering wheel angle is reached or when a
turn s ignal is act ivated . T he area to the side of
the ve hicle is illuminated better when turning .
The adaptive light and the cornering light only
funct io n when the switc h is in the AUTO position
(automat ic head lights*) .
A WARNING
- Daytime r unning lights and a utomat ic head­
lights* are only intended to as sist the driver .
T h ey do not re lieve the driver of his respon­
sibility to c heck t he hea dlights and to tur n
t hem on m anually ac co rding to the cur rent
light and visibili ty conditions. Fo r exam ple,
fog cannot be detected by the light sen­
sors*. So a lways sw itch on the headlights

under these weather conditi ons and when
driving in the dark.
- Crashes can happen when y ou cannot see
the road ahead and when you cannot be
seen by ot her moto rists. Always tu rn on the
headlights so that yo u ca n see ahead a nd so
that othe rs can see yo ur ca r from the back.
- Please obey all laws when usi ng the lighting
sys tems described here.

The rear fog lights* should on ly be turned on
i n accordance w ith traffic regulat ion, as t he
lights are br ight for follow ing traffic.

while the vehi cle's ligh ts are turned o n, a
buzzer sounds as long as t he driver 's door is
open.

h eadlights, turn sig nals and tail lights can
fog over d ue to the temperature difference
between the inside and outs ide. They will
clea r shortly after switching them on. T his
does not affect t he service li fe of the light­
i ng.
- In the event of a light sensor malfunction,

Turn signals and high beam lever
The lever operates the turn signals, the high
b eams and the headlight flasher.

Seats and storag e
The coat hooks are des igned only for light­
weight cloth ing . Never hang any clothing
with hard, pointed or heavy objects in the
pockets on the coat hooks . During sudden
braking or in an acc ident -especially if the
airbag is deployed -these objects could in­
jure any passenge rs ins ide the veh icle.
- T o reduce the r isk of persona l injury in an ac­
cident or sudden stop, always keep the
glove compartment closed while dr iv ing .
- Read and follow all WARNINGS
9 page 147, Important safety instructions
on the side airbag system.
- Hang clothes in such a way that they do not
impa ir the d river's vision.
- The coat hooks must only be used for light­
weight clot hing . Do not leave any heavy o r
sharp edged objects in the pockets which may in terfere with the side curtain airbag
deployment and can cause personal injury in
a cras h.
- Do not use coat hangers for hanging cloth­
ing on the coat hooks as this can interfere
with proper deployment of the side c urtain
airbags in an accident.
- Do not hang heavy objects on the coat
hooks, as they could cause personal injury in
a sudden stop.
- Always keep the compartment above the
rearview mirror closed while dr iving to re­
duce the r isk of injury in the event of sudden
braking maneuvers or a collision .

Objects located on the rear shelf that rub
against the rear window could damage the
heating wires for the rear window defogger.
(D Tips
- A vent slot is located between the shelf and
the rear window. Do not b lock the
vent with
any items you may place on the rear window
shelf.
- Do not place bulky items on the rear w indow
shelf as they could restrict or b lock the driv­
er 's vision in the rear view m irror.

Roof rack
Description and mounting locations
Additional cargo can be carried with a roof lug­
gage rack .

.. Always read and follow the instructions provid­
ed by the roof rack manufacturer when instal ­
ling the roof rack system .
If luggage or cargo is to be carr ied on the roof,
you must observe the following:
- Onl y use roof racks approved for your vehicle .
T hese approved roof racks are the bas is for a
comp le te roof rack system . Addi tional attach­
ments or carrier systems are needed to trans­
port luggage and sports equipment. We recom­
mend using roof racks from the Aud i origina l
accessories program.
- When installing the roof rack, make sure it is
only mounted on the designated locations on
the roof

- We recommend that you keep the installation
instructions for your roof rack system together
w ith your Owner 's litera ture in the vehicle.
When should the roof rack be r em oved?
- Before going through an automatic car wash (it
is best to ask the car wash operator for advice).
- When not in use, to reduce fue l consumption,
wind noise and to guard against theft .
A WARNING
-Use of an unapproved roof rack or incorrect
mounting of an approved roof rack can
cause the roof rack or the items attached to
it to fall off the roof onto the road .

Operation
We recommend pressing the !AUTO I button and setting the temperature to 72 °F (22 °C).

Press the buttons to turn the functio ns on or off.
Use the dials to adjust the temperature, the
b lower speed and the air distrib ution . The LED in
a button will light up when the function is
switched on. The settings are displayed for a few
seconds in the radio or MMI* display.
In vehicles with a 3-zone del uxe automat ic cl i­
mate control systems*, the dr iver and front pas­
senger side can be adjusted separately. The set·
tings are also disp layed in the climate control
"' system display.

IOFF I Switching the climate control system
on/off
The i OFF i button switches the climate contro l
system on or off. It also sw itches on when you
press the knob. Airflow from outside is blocked
when the climate control system is switched off.
IA/Cl Switching cooling mode on/off
The air is not coo led and humidity is not removed
when cool ing mode is switched off. This can
cause fog on the windows . The cooling mode is
switched off automatically at low outside tern· peratures. .,.

-For reas ons of safety, cruise contro l should
not be used in the city, in stop-and-go traf­
fic, on twisting roads and when road condi­
t ions are poor (such as ice, fog, gravel,
heavy rain and hydrop laning) -risk of acci­
dent .
- Turn off the cruise control temporari ly when
enter ing turn lanes, highway exit lanes or in
construction zones.
- Please note that inadvertent ly "rest ing"
yo ur foot on the accelerator peda l causes
the cruise control not to brake. This is be­
c a use the cruise co ntro l is ove rri dden by the
dr iver's acceleration .
-If a brake system malfunc tion such as ove r­
he ating occu rs when the c ruise control sys­
tem is switche d on, the braking func tion in
the system may be switche d off . The other
c ruise control functions remain active as
long as the indicator light

- Vehicles with manua l t ransmission: You can
attain the set speed only if the gear t hat is
currently engaged will allow it, or if it does
not tax t he engine and allows it to run

- The brake lights illuminate as soon as the
brakes app ly automatically .

Disconnecting the battery terminals
Some vehicle functions (power window regula­
tors , for example) are lost if the battery termi­
nals are disconnected. These functions have to be
re learned after th e battery terminals are con­
nected again. To prevent this, the batte ry should
only be disconnected from the ve hicle electrical
system when absolutely necessary for repairs.
Vehicles not driven for long periods
If you do not drive your vehicle over a period of
several days or weeks, e lectrica l components are
gradually cut back or switched off. This reduces
energy consumption and maintains starting ca­ pability over a longer period
c:> page 175 .
Some of the conven ience functions may not oper­
ate, such as the interior lights or the power seat
adjustment. The convenience functions will be
available aga in when you turn on the ignition and
start the engine.
Winter operation
During the winter months, battery capacity tends
to decrease as temperatures drop. This is because
more power is also consumed while s tart ing, and
the headlights, rear window defogger, etc ., are
used more often .
Avoid unnecessary power consumption, part icu­
larly in city traffic or when traveling only short
d istances . Let your authorized Aud i dealer check
the capacity of the vehicle battery before w inter
sets in ¢
page 202 . A well charged battery will
not only prevent starting problems when the
weather is cold, but will also last longer.
(D Tips
If your vehicle is left standing for severa l
weeks at extremely low temperatures, the ve­
hicle battery should be removed and stored
where it will not freeze. This will prevent it
from being damaged and having to be re­ placed.
Checking and Filling
Working on the battery
Be especially careful when working on or near
the battery.
The battery is located in the luggage compart­
men t under the floor. Before you check anything
in the luggage compartment ,
