The variab le power top storage bay lowers auto­
mat ically when the powe r top opens. To reduce
the risk of damage, make s ure there are no frag­
ile objects w ith in the sto rag e bay's range of mo­
t ion.
Raising the power top storage bay
• Press the trim i n the direction of the arrow to
raise the variable power top storage bay

Convertible top Cannot be used
This message ap pears if the power top ca nnot
o pen or clo se au tomat ically because of safety
reasons or if there is a mal func tion . T he follow ­
i ng ca uses are possible:
- Vehicle speed too high: The automatic power
t op is deac tiva ted for sa fe ty reasons if the vehi­
cle speed is too high . Reduce t he vehi cle speed
an d try closing/opening the power top again .
-Battery voltage too low: The automa tic powe r
top is deactivated i f the battery charge level is
too low. You can open/close the power top
aga in after starting the engine.
- Rollover protection active: If the powe r top
runs continuously for a long per iod of time, the
overload protection will activate for appro xi­
mate ly 15 to 30 minutes. You can open/close
the power top again after that¢ &.
-Malfunction: Failure of system components is
one poss ible cause for ma lf u nction. The power
top can be operated manually
c:> page 46.
Convertible top not secure
This mess age ap pears and a w arning tone soun ds

Warm and cold
Warm and cold Climate control system
Description
The climate control system warms, cools and
adds humidity to the air in the vehicle interior. It
is the most effective when the windows and pow­
er top are closed.
If there is a build-up of heat in­
side the vehicle , ventilation can help to speed up
the cooling process.
In all heating mode functions except
defrost, the
blower only switches to a higher speed once the
engine coolant has reached a certain tempera­
ture.
Condensation from the cooling system can drip
and form a puddle of water under the vehicle.
This is normal and does not mean there is a leak.
Pollutant filter
The pollutant filter removes pollutants such as
dust and pollen from the air.
The air pollutants filter must be changed at the
intervals specified in your Warranty & Mainte­
nance booklet, so that the air conditioner can
properly work.
If you drive your vehicle in an area with high air pollution , the filter may need to be changed
more frequently than specified in your Audi War­
ranty
& Maintenance booklet. If in doubt, ask
your authorized Audi Service Advisor for advice.
Key coded settings
The climate control settings are automatically
stored and assigned to the remote control key
that is in use . These settings are different when
the power top is open or closed.
_& WARNING
Reduced visibility is dangerous and can cause
accidents.

- For safe driving it is very important that all
windows be free of ice, snow and condensa­
tion.
- Completely familiarize yourself with the
proper use and function of the heating and
ventilation system and especially how to de­
fog and defrost the windows .
- Never use the windshield wiper/washer sys­
tem in freezing weather until you have
warmed the windshield first, using the heat­
ing and ventilation system . The washer solu­
tion may freeze on the windshield and re­
duce visibility .
(U;) Note
- If you suspect that the air conditioner has
been damaged, switch the system off to
avoid further damage and have it inspected
by a qualified dealership.
- Repairs to the Audi air conditioner require
special technical knowledge and special
tools. Contact an authorized Audi dealer for
assistance.
@ For the sake of the environment
By reducing the amount of fuel you use, you
also reduce the amount of pollutants emitted
into the air.
(D Tips
- Keep the air intake slots (in front of the
windshield) free from ice, snow and debris in order to maintain the proper function of
the climate control system.
- The energy management system may switch
the seat heating* or rear window defroster
off temporarily. These systems are available
again as soon as the energy balance has
been restored.
- Air escapes through vents under the rear
window. When placing items of clothing on
the luggage compartment cover, ensure
that the openings are not covered.

Warm and cold
l= I Swit ching recir culation m ode on /off
In recirculation mode, the air ins ide the vehicle is
circu lated and filtered . This prevents the unfil ­
tered air outside the vehicle from entering the
ve hicle interior . We recommend switching recir­
culation mode on when driving through a tunne l
or when sitting in traffic

The IAU TOI button or lllll> F RONT I button switches
recirculation mode off .
IAUTOI Switching automatic mode on
Automatic mode ma inta ins a constant tempera­
ture inside the vehicle. A ir temperature, airflow
and ai r distribution are controlled automatica lly .
Adjusting th e tempe ratur e
Temperatures between 60 °F (+16 °C) and 84 °F
( + 28 °C) can be set. Outside of this range,
LO or
HI will appear in the cl imate control system dis­
p lay. At both of these settings, the climate con­
trol system r uns continuously at maximum cool­
i n g or heating power. There is no temperat ure
regulation.
~ Ad justing the airflow
You can adjust the a irf low manually to su it yo ur
needs . To have the airf low regulated automatica l­
ly, press the
IAUTO I button .
~ Adjusting the air distribution
You can manually se lect the vents where the air
will flow. To have the air distr ibution reg ulated
automatically , press the
!AUTO ! button.
QJ Adjusting seat h eating *
Pressing the button sw itches the seat heating on
at the h ighest setting (level 3) . The LEDs indicate
the tempe ratu re leve l. To reduce the tempe ra­
ture, press the button again . To switch the seat
heating off, press the button repeatedly unt il the
L ED turns off .
Afte r 10 minutes, the seat heat ing automat ica lly
sw itches from level 3 to leve l 2.
~ Adjust ing seat ventilation*
Pressing the button switches the seat ventilation
on at the highest setting (level 3) . The LEDs indi-

cate the ventilation level. To reduce the ventila ­
tion level, press the button again. To switch the
seat ventilation off , press the button repeatedly
u nt il the LED turns off .
I@ FRONT I Switch the defro ste r on /off
The w indshield and side windows are defrosted
or cleared of condensation as q uickly as possib le.
The maximum amount of air f lows mainly from
the vents below the windshield. Recirculation
mode switches off. The temperature should be
set to 72 °F (22 °C) or h igher. The temperature is
controlled automat ically.
The
! AUTO ! button switches the defroster off.
lliil REAR I Switch ing rear window he ater on /
off
The rear window heater on ly operates when the
engine is runn ing . It switches off automatically
after a few minutes, depending on the outside
temperature.
To prevent the rear window heater from switch­ ing off automatically, press and hold the
I Cliil REARI
button for more than 2 seconds. This remains
stored until the ignit ion is switched off.
Air vents
You can open and close the center and rear air
vents using the th umbwhee ls . The levers adjust
the d irection of the airflow from the vents.
In vehicles with a 3-zone deluxe automa tic cli­
mate control system*, you can adjust the air tem­
perature in the rear by turning the thumbwhee l
toward the red side to make it warmer or toward
the blue side to make it cooler.
A WARNING
- Do not use the recircu lation for extended
periods of time. The windows could fog up
since no fresh air can enter the vehicle. If
the wi ndows fog up, press the air rec ircula­
tion button again immed iate ly to sw itch off
the air recirc ulation func tion or selec t de­
frost.
- I ndivid ua ls w ith red uced sensitivity to pain
or tempera ture could develop burns when
using the seat heating f unction . To reduce

the risk of injury, these individua ls should
not use seat heating.

To avo id damage to the heating elements in
the seats, do not kneel on the seats or place heavy loads on a small area of the seat .
Setup
The basic climate control settings can be adjust ­
ed in the radio or MMI*.

Automatic recircul ation *
When switched o n, automatic recirculation con ­
trols the recircu lation mode au toma tically . If the
windows fog up, press the

Synchronization *
When synchronization is sw itched on, the same
settings are applied to both the driver and front
p a ssenger, except fo r the seat hea ting/vent ila­
tion* . Synchronization switches off when you ad­
just the settings on the front passenger 's side .
You can a lso switch synchroniza tion on by press­
i ng a nd ho ld ing the knob on the driver's side.
Supplementary he ater
The supplementary heater warms the inter ior of
veh icles w ith flexible fuel engines more quickly.
The supplementa ry heater is cont rolled automat­
ically in the
Auto se tting.
Warm and cold
Upper cabin heating
Applies to vehicles: with upper cabin heating

The upper cabin area of the front seats can be
heated at three levels when the engine is run­
ning.
.. Press the~ button to switch the upper cabin
heating on. The LED illuminates.
.,. Press the~ button repeatedly until the LED
goes out to switch the upper cabin heating off .
A WARNING
-Individuals w ith reduced sensitivity to pain
or tempera ture could deve lop burns when
using the upper cabin heat ing. To reduce the
risk of injury, these ind ividuals shou ld not
use upper cabin heat ing.
- The output from the upper cabin heati ng
system may be very hot temporarily if the
air vents in the seats<=>
fig. 85 are covered
by clothing or other objects when the sys­
tem is switched on. This can cause burns on
unprotected sk in exposed directly to the
vents.

Manually adjustable steering wheel
The steering wheel position is fully adjus table up
and down and forward and back .

First, adjust the driver's seat correctly.
• Pull the lever~

• Move the steering wheel to the desired posi­
tion.
• Push the lever against the steering column un-
til it locks.
There must be at least 10 inches (25 cm) be­ tween your chest and the center of the steering
wheel. If you cannot sit more than 10 inches (25
cm) from the steering wheel, see if adaptive
eq uipm ent is available to help you reach the ped­
als and increase the distance from the steering
wheel.

driver's seat, see
~page 60 .
.&_ WARNING
Improper use of steering wheel adjustment
and improper seating position can cause seri­
ous personal injury.
- Adjust the steering wheel column only when
the vehicle is not moving to prevent loss of
vehicle control.
- Adjust the driver's seat or steering wheel so
that there is a minimum of 10 inches (25
cm) between your chest and the steering
wheel

maintain this minimum distance, the airbag
system cannot protect you properly.
-If phys ical limitations prevent you from sit­
ting 10 inches (25 cm) or more from the
steering wheel, check with your authorized
Audi dealer to see if adaptive equipment is
available.
- If the steering wheel is aligned with your
face, the supplemental driver's airbag can­
not provide as much protection in an acci­
dent. Always make sure that the steering
wheel is aligned with your chest.
- Always hold the steering wheel with your
hands at the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock posi­
tions to reduce the risk of personal injury if
the driver's airbag deploys.
- Never hold the steering wheel at the 12
o'clock position or with your hands inside
the steering wheel rim or on the steering
wheel hub. Holding the steering wheel the
wrong way can cause serious injuries to the
hands, arms and head if the driver's airbag
deploys .
Ignition lock

The ignition is switched on and the engine start­
ed with the ignition key .

Sw itching the ignition on /off
If you would like to switch the ignition o n wit h­
out starting the engine, fo llow these steps:
• Inse rt the key into the ignition lock.
• Press the key brief ly
wi thout p ress ing the b rake
pedal.
• To sw itch the ignition off , press the key again.
When starting the engine, major e lectr ica l loads
are sw itched off temporar ily.
You ca n only remove the key with the ignition
sw itched off .
If the engine should not start immedia tely , the
starti ng process is automatically stopped after a
short time . Repeat sta rting procedure .
A WARNING
-Never allow the engine to run in confined
spaces - dange r of asp hyxiation.
- Never remove the ignition key from the ign i­
t ion loo k while the vehicle is moving . Other­
wise, the steering lock cou ld sudden ly en­
gage and you would not be able to steer the
vehicle.
- Always ta ke the key with yo u wheneve r you
leave your vehi cle. Otherwise, the engine
could be started or electrical eq uipment
s uch as the power windows cou ld be operat­
ed . T his can lead to ser ious injury.
- Never leave ch ildren or persons requiring as­
sistance unattended in the vehicle. The
doors can be locked using the remote trans­
mitter, preventing peop le from escap ing
from the vehicle on their own in the event of an emergency . Depending on the time of
year, people inside the vehicle can be ex­ posed to very high o r very low tempe ra­
t ur es.

Avoid high engine rpm, full throttle and heavy
eng ine loads until the eng ine has reached op­
erati ng temperature - otherwise you risk en­
gine dam age.

w ill switch off a s well when that hap pens.
Starting the vehicle with the emergency
key
Applies to vehicles: with ignition lock
You can use the emergen cy key as an igni tion key
in an emergency.

now be started as usual.
Stopping the engine
Applies to vehicles: with ig ni tion lock
.. Bring the vehicle to a full stop.
.. Automatic transmission: Move the selector lev­
er to the P or N position.
.. Press on the ignition key. The engine is turned
off .
.. You can now remove the key.
Steering lock
The steering locks when you remove the ignition
k ey. The locked steering helps prevent vehicle
theft.
Emergency off
If it is necessary in unusual circumstances, the
engine can be switched off while the vehicle is
moving. The engine will be switched off if you
press on the key for an extended period.
A WARNING
- Never turn off the engine before the vehicle
has come to a complete stop. The full func­
tion of the brake booster and the power
steering is not guaranteed . You must use
more force to turn or brake if necessary. Be­
cause you cannot steer and brake as you
usually would, this could lead to crashes
and serious injuries.
- For safety reasons, you should always park
your vehicle with the selector lever in P. Oth­
erwise, the vehicle could inadvertently roll
away.
- The radiator fan can continue to run for up
to 10 minutes even after you have turned
off the engine and removed the ignition key.
Driving
The radiator fan can also turn on again if the
engine coolant heats up because of intense
sunlight or heat build-up in the engine com­
partment.
- Always take the key with you whenever you
leave your vehicle. Otherwise, the engine
could be started or electrical equipment
such as the power windows could be operat­
ed. This can lead to serious injury.
- Never leave children or persons requiring as­
sistance unattended in the vehicle. The
doors can be locked using the remote trans­
mitter, preventing people from escaping
from the veh icle on their own in the event of
an emergency. Depending on the time of
year, people inside the vehicle can be ex­
posed to very high or very low tempera­
tures.

If the engine has been under heavy load for
an extended period, heat builds up in the en­
gine compartment after the engine is switch­
ed off -there is a risk of damaging the engine.
Allow the engine to run at idle for about two minutes before switching it off.

tem does not recogni ze it. For example, the mas­
ter key ca nnot be recognized if it is covered by an
object (e .g . alum inum br ie f case) which
screens
the radio signal. Electronic devices such as cell
phones can also interfere w ith the rad io signa l.
Press br ake pedal to sta rt engine
This message appears if you do not press the
b rake peda l to s tart the engine.
Shift to N or P to start engine
Dr ivi ng
This message appears when attempt ing to start
t h e engine if the se lector lever for the automatic
transmission is not in the P or N position. The en ­
gine can on ly be started w ith the selector in
these positions.
El I s the key in the vehicle?
T his mess age appears if the mas ter key is re­
moved from the vehicle wi th the e ngine runn ing .
If the master key is no longer in the ve hicle, you
cannot switch on the ignition after stopping the
engine and you also cannot start the engine
again . Moreover, you cannot lock the vehicle from
t h e outside with the key.
Shift to P otherwise vehicle can roll away . Door s
do not lo ck
if le ve r is not in P.
This message appears for safety reasons along
with a warning signal. It appea rs if the selector
lever for the automatic transmission is not in the
P position when switch ing off the ignition. Move
the selector lever to the P position, otherwise the
vehicle is not secured against rolling away. You
also cannot lock the vehicle us ing the locking
button* on the door handle o r us ing t he remote
key .
Convenience key defe cti ve! Use ign ition lock
This message appears if the engine must be
started or stopped using the ign ition key and not
the
I STAR T ENGINE ST OP ! button.
Electromechanical
parking brake

The electromechanical parking broke replaces
the hand broke.

Your veh icle is equipped w ith an electromechan i­
cal parking b rake. The par king b rake is designed
to p revent the veh icle from rolling unintentional­
ly and replaces the hand brake.
In addition to the norma l funct ions of a tradit ion­
a l hand bra ke, the e lectromechan ical pa rking
b rake provides var ious convenience and safety
f u nctions.
When start ing f rom rest
- The integral starting assist helps you when
driv ing by automat ically releasing the parking
brake ¢

-When sta rting on inclines , the starting assist
prevents the vehicle from un intent ionally roll­
ing back. The bra kin g for ce of the par kin g b rake
is no t released until sufficien t driv ing fo rce has
been built up at the wheels .
Emergency brake function

tion switched off, the indicator lights in the
switch and -(USA models) . (Cana­
da models) in t he instrument cl uster will go
out after a certa in period of time.

A WARNING

- When you leave your vehicle -even if only
briefly - always remove the ignition key. This
applies pa rticularly when children remain in
the vehicle . Otherwise the ch ild ren could
start t he engine, release the parking b rake
or operate elect rical equipment (e.g. power
w indows). There is the risk of an acc ident.
- When the veh icle is locked, no one -part icu­
larly no t chi ld ren shou ld remain in the ve hi­
cle. Lo cked doors m ake it more d ifficul t for
emergency workers to get into the veh icle -
putting lives at risk.
