You can centrally lock and unlock your vehicle
and start the engine with the master key with
remote control. A mechanical key is integrat­
ed in the master key~
page 39.
® Emergency key
The emergency key is not intended for con­
stant use.
It should only be used in an emer­
gency . Keep it in a safe place and do not carry
it on your key ring .
Key replacement
If you lose a key, contact your authorized Audi
dealer immediately to have the
lost key disa­
bled. Be sure to bring all your keys with you.
Data in the master key
During driving, service and maintenance-rele­
vant data is continuously stored on your mas ­
ter key. Your Audi service adviser can read out
this data and tell you about the work your ve­ hicle needs. This applies a lso to vehicles with
conven ience key*.
Per sonal comfort settings
If two people use one vehicle, it is recom­
mended that each person always uses "their
own" master key . When the ign ition is turned
off or when the vehicle is locked, personal
conven ience settings for the follow ing sys-

terns are stored and assigned to the remote
master key.
- Climate contro l
- Centra l locking system
- Seat memory*
- Parking system*
-Adaptive cruise control*
- Audi side assist*
- Audi drive se lect*
The stored settings are automatically recalled
when you unlock the vehicle, when you open
the doors or when you turn on the ignit ion.
A WARNING
-
- Do not leave your vehicle unattended
with the key in the ignition lock. Entry by
unauthorized persons could endanger
you or result in theft or damage the vehi­
cle . Always lock all doors and take the
key .
- Do not leave ch ildren unattended in the
veh icle, especially with access to vehicle
keys . Unguarded access to the keys pro­
vides children the opportun ity to start
the engine and/or activate vehicle sys­
tems such as the power windows etc. Un­
supervised operation of any vehicle sys­
tem by children can result in serious In­
jury.
- Do not remove the key from the ignition
lock until the vehicle has come to a com­
plete stop. Otherwise the steering col­
umn lock could suddenly engage -caus­
ing the risk of an accident.
@ Tips
- Th e operation of th e remote control key
can be temporarily disrupted by interfer­
ence from transmitters in the vicinity of
the vehicle working in the same frequen­
cy range (e .g. a cell phone, radio equ ip­
ment).
- If you open the driver's door with the key
left in the ignit ion lock, a chime w ill
sound. Th is is your reminder to remove
the key and lock the door.

Operating locks with the mechanical key
In the event of a failure of the power locking
system, the driver 's door can locked and un­
locked with the mechanical key at the lock
cylinder .

If you lock the vehicle using the power locking
switch, please note the following:
- If a door is open, the vehicle cannot be
locked using the power locking system
switch .
- You cannot open the doors or the rear lid
from the
outside (increased security, for ex ­
ample when you are stopped at a red light) .
- The diodes in the power locking switch illu­
minate when all the doors are closed and
locked.
- You can unlock and open the doors from the
inside by pulling on the door handle.
- If you have a crash and the airbag is activat­
ed, the doors automatically unlock.
A WARNING
-The power locking switch works with the
ignit ion off and automat ically locks the
entire vehicle when it is actuated.
- On a vehicle locked from the outside the
power locking system switch is inopera­
tive .

Controls
The driver can operate the window regulator
for the driver's door with the left switch and the window regulator for the passenger's
door with the right switch.

the w indow will open or close . The power win­
dow switches have a
two-position function :
Opening the windows
• Push the sw itch to the fir st stop and hold it
t h ere unt il t he wi ndow has lowered to the
desired position.
• Push the switch briefly to the
second stop :
the window wi ll automatically open all the
way.
Closing the windows
• Pull t he switch up to the first stop and ho ld
it there until the window has rise n to the de­
sired posit ion .
• Pu ll the switch q uick ly to the
second posi ­
tion :
the window will automat ically close all
t h e way.
A WARNING
- Do not leave children unattended in the
vehicle, espe cially with acc ess to vehicle
k eys. U nsuperv ised use of the keys can
result in st arting of t he engine and u se
of ve hicle sys tems such as power win­
dows, etc. which co uld resu lt in serio us
injury. -
Remember -you can still open or close
the powe r windows for about ten mi­
nutes after the ign ition is switched off.
O nl y when either of the doors are opened
are the powe r windows sw itched off.
- Be careful when clos ing the windows.
Check to see t hat no o ne is in the way , or
ser io us inj ury co uld result!
- Always remove the ign it ion key wheneve r
you leave your ve hicle .
- If you lock your vehicle from the outside,
no one, espec ial ly childre n, should re­
main in the veh icle.
- Do not st ick anything on t he windows or
the w indshield that may interfere w ith
the dr iver's field of vision.
(D Tips
- When you open the do ors, the windows
automatically lowe r abo ut 10 mm.
- After the ignition has been switched off ,
the windows can st ill be opened or
closed for about 10 mi nutes. The win­
dow reg ulators are no t sw itche d until
the drive r's or passenge r's door is
o pene d.
Convenience opening/closing
The windows and the panoramic tilting sun­
ro of can be ope ned and closed with the me­
cha nical key or the emergency key.

Correcting window regulator
malfunction
After disconnecting the vehicle battery, the
one-touch up and down feature must be acti­
vated again.
.. Pull and hold the power w indow switch un­
til the window is completely closed.
.. Re lease the switch.
.. Pu ll the switch again for one second. The
automatic clos ing/opening is now reactivat­
ed .

Valet parking
Through the "valet parking" feature the lug­
gage compartment of your vehicle is secured
from unauthorized access during the valet
parking service .

Vanity mirror
The vanity mir rors on the sun visors are cov­
e red. When the l id is opened @, the m irror

consecutive ly can trigge r the overload
protect ion . The sun shade can on ly be ex­
t ended/retracted agai n after a brief wait­
ing period.
- The rear window sun shade only func­
tions when the vehicle interior is warmer
t han 14°F (- 10°().

If there shou ld be a malfunction in the
electrical system, you can still adjust the
exterior mirrors by pressing the edge of

rors dim automatically when light shines on
them, for example from head lights on ave ­
hicle to the rear .
A WARNING
Electrolyte fluid can leak from automatic
dimming mirrors if the glass is broken.
Electrolyte fluid can irritate skin, eyes and
respi ratory system .
- Repeated or prolonged exposure to elec­
trolyte can cause irritation to the resp ira­
tory system, espec ially among people
with asthma or other respiratory cond i­
t ions. Get fres h air immedia tely by leav­
ing t he vehicle or, if that is not possible,
o pen windows and doors all the way.
- If elec trolyte gets in to the eyes, flush
them thoro ughly with large amounts of
clean water for at least 15 min utes;
medica l attention is recommended .
-If electrolyte contacts skin, flush affect­
ed area with clean water for at least 15 minutes and then wash affected area
with soap and water; medical attention is recommended . Thoroughly wash af­
fected clothing and shoes before reuse.
- If swallowed and person is conscious,
rinse mouth with water for at least 15
minutes. Do not induc e vomiting unless
instructed to do so by medi cal professio­
na l. Get medical attention immediately .

Liquid electrolyte leaking from b roken m ir­
r o r glass w ill damage any plastic surfaces
i t comes in contac t with. Clean up spilled
electrolyte imme diately wi th clean water
and a sponge .
(D Tips
-Switching off the dimming function of
the inside rear view mir ror also deacti­
va tes the automatic dimming func tion of
the exterior mirrors .
- The automatic dimming m irrors do not
dim when the interior lighting is turned
on or the reverse gear is selected .
- Au toma tic dimm ing for t he mirror on ly
operates properly if the sun shade * for
the rear window is not in use or the light
striking the inside mirror is not hindered
by other objects .

Parcel shelf
The parcel shelf behind the rear seatback can
be used to carry light items of clothing.

the vehicle occupants during sudden brak­

To ensure problem-free ventilation, the

Warm and cold Deluxe automatic
climate control
Description
Appl ies to vehicles: with deluxe automatic cl imate contro l
The climate control system can be u sed to set
a comfortable temperature inside the vehicle.
The climate control system is a comb inat ion
of a heating and ventilation system as well a
coo ling system respons ible for dehum idifying
and cool ing the a ir inside the vehicle.
The automat ic climate co ntrol system auto­
mat ica lly ma inta ins a temperature once it has
been set. The temperature of t he a ir from the
ve nts, fan speed (ai r volume) and air dis trib u­
tion are also au toma tic ally adjusted . The sys ­
tem a lso takes into account strong sun light so
that manua l adjustment is not necessary . So
in almost a ll cases,
automatic mode offers
the best cond itions for the comfort of the oc­
cupa nts at all t imes of the year
c;, page 81 .
Please note the following:
The cooling mode lowers the hum idi ty leve l
ins ide the veh icle. This p reven ts fogging up of
the windows .
I n t he case of high outside humidity and tem­
pe rat ures,
condensation c an drip from the air
conditioning sys tem evaporator and form a
pool under the vehicle. This is normal and not
an indication of leaks!
A t l ow ou ts ide temper atures, the f an au to­
mat ica lly switches to a higher speed when the
coolant reac hes a sufficient temperature ex ­
cept in the defroster pos ition.
W hen sta rting with full thro ttle, the compres­
sor of the automatic clima te con trol sys tem is
temporari ly switched off to achieve f ull en­
g ine power.
To ensure eng ine cooling when the eng ine is
under an extreme load, the compressor is
switched off at high coolant temperatures .

Pollutant filter
The poll uta nt fi lter ( part icle fi lter) ensures
that imp urities in t he outside air (e .g. dust,
po llen) and odors are significantly reduced or
stopped . The air is also fi ltered in recircu lation
mode.
T he poll utant fi lter element m ust be changed
at the intervals specified in the service p lan so
that the perfo rmance of the a utomatic cli­
mate control system is not impaired.
If the effectiveness of the filter decreases pre ­
maturely due to operation of the vehicle in
areas with significant poll ution, the filter e le­
ment must be changed between the specified
serv ice dates.
Key recognition
T he c urrent automatic climate contro l set ­
tings are automatically stored and assigned to
the maste r key .
Energy management
To p reven t the bat tery from being discharged
and to res to re the ba lance o f energy, compo ­
nents which require large amo unts o f energy
are temporarily cut bac k or switched off
¢ page 211. Heating systems in particular re ­
quire a great deal of energy. If yo u notice, for
example, that the rear window heater is not
heating, then it has been temporarily reduced
o r switched off by
energy management.
T hese systems a re available again as soon as
the ene rgy balance has been res to red.

T raff ic safety re quires all windows to be
clear of i ce, snow, and con densa tion . Only
the n can good v is ib ility be ensured . Famili­
a rize yourself w ith the correct operation of
the automatic climate contro l system as
well as the proper procedure for defog­
g ing/defrosting the windows .

-If you s usp ect that the automatic cli ­
mate contro l system has been damaged,

fied dealership.
- Repairs to the Audi automatic climate
control system require specialized knowledge and special tools. Therefore,
contact an authorized dealer in the event
of malfunctions .
@ Tips
-To avoid adversely affecting heating and
cooling performance and to prevent con­
densation on the windows, the air intake
in front of the windshield must be free of
ice, snow and leaves .
Controls
Applies to vehicles: with deluxe automatic climate control
-The air flowing out of the vents and
throughout the vehicle's entire interior is
discharged at the rear of the vehicle.
Make sure that the outlet slots are not
covered by clothing, etc.
- The automatic climate control system works most effectively if the windows
and the panorama/tilting sunroof* are
closed . However, if the interior of a
parked vehicle is extremely hot from the
sun, briefly opening the windows can
speed up the cooling process.
