Never use a fast charger as a booster to start
the engine . This will serious ly damage sensi­
tive electronic components, such as control units, relays, radio, etc., as well as the battery
charger.
Battery replacement
The new battery must have the same specifica­
tions and dimensions as the original equipment
battery .
Intelligent energy management in your vehicle is
responsible for distributing the electrical energy
throughout your vehicle
¢ page 192 . The intelli ­
gent energy management system w ill keep the
engine battery charged better than vehicles with­
out this system . To make sure the addit ional
e lectrica l energy is available once again after you
have changed the battery, we recommend that
you install batteries of the same type and manu­
facture only (the same as those installed at the
time your veh icle was delivered). Specifications
are listed on the battery housing. Your author­
ized dealer must code the battery in the energy
management system to enable you to use the en­
ergy management functions correctly after re­
p lacing the battery .
The new battery must have the same capacity,
voltage (12-volts), amperage, construction and
plug sealing .
When installing the battery, make sure the igni­
tion and all electrical consumers are sw itched
off.

Make sure the ventilation hose on the side of
the battery is connected, otherw ise fumes or
battery acid can leak out.
- Vehicles with the Start-Stop-System* are
equipped with a special cycle-proof AGM
battery . Install ing a different type of bat­
tery can cause prob lems in the vehicle elec­
trical system. When replacing the vehicle
battery, always install one with the same
specifications as the original battery.
Checking and Filling
{® For the sake of the environment
Because of the problem of proper disposal of
a battery, we recommend your authorized
Audi dealer change the battery for you. Bat­
teries contain sulfur ic acid and lead and must
always be disposed of properly in compliance
with all environmental regulations. Disposing
of veh icle batteries improperly is very danger­
ous to the environment .

Hidden damage
Damage to tires and rims can of­
ten occur in locations that are
hidden. Unusual vibrations in the
vehicle or pulling to one side may indicate that there is tire damage .
Reduce your speed immediately .
Check the tires for damage. If no
damage is visible from the out­
side, drive slowly and carefully to
the nearest authorized Audi deal­
er or authorized repair facility to
have the vehicle inspected.
A WARNING ~
Tread that has worn too low or
different tread depths on the
tires can reduce driving safety.
This can especially have a nega­
tive effect on handling, on the
risk aquaplaning when driving .,.

Wheels
- These tires may wear more q uickly than othe rs.
- Please also remembe r th at, w hile these tires
deliver responsive handling, they may r ide less
comfortably and make more noise than ot her
cho ices.
Reduced performance in wint er/ cold season
condit ion s
All tires are designed for certain purposes. The low aspect ratio, ultra high pe rformance tires
or iginally insta lled on yo ur vehicle are intended
for maximum d ry and wet road performance and
handling. They are not suitable for cold, snowy or
icy weathe r cond itions .
If you drive under those
circumstances, you should equ ip your ve hicle
with all-season or winter tires, wh ich offe r bette r
traction under those condit ions. We sugges t you
use the recommended snow or all-season tires
specified for yo ur vehicle, or their eq uivalen t.

T he
tread wear grade is a compara tive ra ting
b a se d on the wea r rate of the t ire when tes ted
under contro lled conditions on a specified gov ·
ernment test co urse.
F or examp le, a tir e graded 150 would wear one
a nd one ha lf ( 11/2) times as well on t he gove rn·
men t course as a tire graded 100 .
T he rela tive perfo rmance of t ires depends upon
the a ct u a l c ondi tions of their use, howeve r, and
may depart s ignific ant ly from the norm d ue to

variations in driving habits, service p ract ices an d
differences in road characteristics and climate.
Traction
The
traction grades , from hig hest to lowest , a re
AA , A, B and
C. Those grades rep resent the tire's
a bility to stop o n wet p avement as measure d un­
der controlled conditions on specified govern ·
ment test s urfaces of asphalt an d concrete. A tire
marked C may have poor traction perfo rmance

Temperature
The
temp eratur e grades are A ( the highest), B,
and C, representing the tire 's resistance to the
generatio n of heat and its ability to dissipate
heat when tested under contro lled conditions on
a specified indoor laboratory test wheel.
Sustained high temperature can cause the mate·
rial of the tire to degenerate and reduce tire life,
and excessive temperature can lead to s udden
tire failure¢ ,&.
The grade C cor responds to a level of perform ·
ance which all passenger car tires must meet un·
der the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard
No . 109 . Grades Band A represent hig her levels
of performance on the laboratory test wheel than
t h e m inim um requ ired by law .

Ifmm appears
after switching the ignition on or while driving
and the
IE indicator light in the instrument clus­
ter blinks for approximately one minute and then
stays on , there is system malfunction . Try to
store the correct tire pressures¢
page 250. If
the indicator light does turn off or turns on again
after a short period of time, drive to your author­
ized Audi dealer or qualified repair facility imme­
diate ly to have the malfunction corrected.
A WARNING
- If the ti re pressure indicator appears in the
display, reduce your speed immediately and
avoid any hard steering or braking maneu­
vers. Stop as soon as possible and check the
t ir es and their pressure .
- The driver is responsible for maintaining the
correct tire pressure. You must check the
t ir e pressure regularly.
- Under certain conditions (such as a sporty
dr iv ing style, winter cond itions or unpaved
roads), the tire pressure mon itoring system
indicator may be delayed.
- Do not use run-flat tires on your vehicle. Us­
ing them when not permitted can lead to
vehicle damage or accidents.

function.
- Using snow chains may result in a system
malfunction.
- The tires with the identification "AO" or
"RO" ¢

Storing tire pressures
If the tire pressure changes or a tire is replaced,
it mus t be confirmed in the Infotainmen t sys­
tem.

Bulbs
Replacing light bulbs
For your safety, we recommend that you have
your authorized Audi dealer replace burned out
bulbs for you.
It is becoming increasingly more and more diffi­
cult to replace vehicle light bulbs since in many
cases, other parts of the car must first be re­
moved before you are able to get to the bulb.
This applies especially to the light bulbs in the
front of your car wh ich you can only reach
through the eng ine compartment.
Sheet metal and bulb holders can have sharp
edges that can cause serious cuts, and parts must be correctly taken apart and then properly
put back together to help prevent breakage of
parts and long term damage from water that can
ente r hous ings that have not been properly re­
sea led .
F or your safety, we recommend that you have
your author ized Audi dealer replace any bu lbs for
you, s ince your dealer has the p roper tools, the
correct bulbs and the expertise.
Gas di schar ge l amp s (X enon li ghts):
Due to the high electrical voltage, have the bulbs
replaced by a qual ified technician . Headlights
w ith Xenon light can be identified by the high
voltage sticker.
LED headlights* require no maintenance. Please
contact your authorized Audi dealer if a bulb needs to be replaced.
A WARNING
Contact w ith high-voltage components of the
elect rical system a nd improper rep lacement
of gas d ischarge (Xenon) headlight b ulbs can
cause serious personal injury and death .
- Xenon bulbs are press urized and can ex­
plode when be ing changed.
- Chang ing Xenon lamps requires the spec ial
t rain ing, instructions and equipment.
- Only an autho rized Aud i dea le r o r other
qualified wo rkshop s hou ld change the bulbs
in gas disc harge lamps .

There are parts with sharp edges on the open­
i ngs and on the bulb holders that can cause
serious cuts.
- If you are uncertain about what to do, have

very dusty regions, when towing a trai le r very fre­

- Always sw itch off the ignition before anyone
gets under the vehicle.
- Always support your vehicle with safety
stands if it is necessary to work underneath

could collapse causing serious personal in­

- If you must wor k unde rneath the vehicle
w ith the wheels on t he g roun d, always make
sure the vehicle is on level ground, that the
wheels are always sec urely blocked and that
the engine cannot be started.
- Always make sure the transmission se lector
lever (automatic t ransm iss ion) is in P (Park
