for assistance.

- Never ope n the hood if you can see or hear
steam or coola nt escaping from t he engine
compar tment . This increases the risk of
burns. Wa it until you no longer see o r hear

- The engine compartment in any vehicle can

hicle battery is discharging, turn off a ll unneces
sa ry electrical equ ipment such as the rad io. See
your authorized Audi dea ler or authorized Audi
Service Facility if the batte ry charge level is too

The ground clearance is very low due to a system malfunctio n. Wait until the air suspension sys
tem has restored norma l ground clearance. Oth
erwise, conditions such as an uneven road surface
can lead to vehicle damage.

The engine torq ue that can be transfer red is re
duced. You may continue driv ing. Avo id using the
clutch in any way that w ill place a heavy load on
i t. For example, do not let the clutch rub when
start ing o n hills, whe n towing a trai ler or when
maneuveri ng the vehicle . Drive to an author ized
Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Fac ility im
med iate ly to have the malfu nction corrected.
fiB Clut ch malfunction! You may continue driv
ing
There is a ma lfunction in the clutch. The engine
torque that can be transferred is reduced. You
may contin ue driving . Avoid using the clutch in
t h e future in any way that w ill place a heavy load
o n it. Fo r example , do no t let the clutc h ru b when
starting o n hill s, when towing a trailer or when
mane uve rin g the vehicle . The ind ic a tor light
turns off once the clutch is fully operab le ag ain.
Lt Brake booster
D Brake servo : limited functionality. You can
conti nue d riving. Conta ct w ork shop
There is a m alfu nction in the brake booster. The
bra ke booste r is ava ilable, but its effectiveness is
reduced . Braking behavior may be different from
how it normally f unctions and the bra ke pedal
may vibrate.
Drive to an au thorized A udi dealer or au thorized
Audi Se rvice Facility immediate ly to have the
malfunction corrected.
n/ u Electronic Stabilization Control (ESC)
If the G1 ind icator light blinks while driving, the
ESC or ASR (Anti-Slip Regulation) is act ively regu
lating .
If the
GJ ind icator light turns on, the system has
switched the ESC off. In t his case, yo u can switch
the ignit io n off and then on to switch the ESC on
again . T he i ndicator light t urns off when the sys
tem is functioning fully .

The door ca nnot be opened for a br ief period di
rect ly after loc king it. This way you have the op
portunity to check if the doors locked correctly.
The settings in the Infotainment system deter mine if the entire vehicle or only one of the doors
is unlocked when unlocking the vehicle

@ Tips
If your vehicle is left stand ing for a long peri
od of time, note the following:
- The proximity senso r switches off after a
few days to save energy. You then have to
pull once on the door handle to unlock the
vehicle and a second time to open it .
- The energy management system gradually
turns off unnecessary convenience functions
to prevent the vehicle battery from draining
and to maintain the vehicle 's abi lity to start
for as long as possible. You may not be able to unlock your vehicle using the convenience
key.

When locking the vehicle with the central locking
switch, the following app lies:
- Opening the door and the luggage compart
ment lid from the
outside is not possible (for
security reasons, such as when stopped at a
light) .
- The L ED in the central locking switch turns on
when all doors are closed and locked.
-Applies to: front doors: you can open the doors
ind ividually from the inside by pulling the door
handle .
- Rear doors: to unlock the doors, pull on the
door ha ndle
one time . To open the doors, pull
on the door handle
again .
- In the event of a crash with a irbag deployment,
the doors unlock automat ically to allow access
to the vehicle.
A WARNING
-The central locking switch also works when
the ignition is switched off and automatical
ly locks the entire vehicle when the~ but
ton is pressed.
- The central locking switch is inoperative
when the vehicle is locked from the outside.
- Locked doors make it more difficult for
emergency workers to get into the vehicle,
which puts lives at r isk. Do not leave anyone
behind in the vehicle, especially c hildren .
@ Tips
Your vehicle locks automatically when it
reaches a speed of 9 mph (15 km/h) (Auto

All power window sw itches are eq uipped w ith a
two-stage funct ion:
Opening and closing the windows

the switch down or pu ll the switch up briefly to
the second level. The operation will stop if the
switch is pressed/pu lled again.
~ To se lect a position in between opened and
closed, press/pull the sw itch to the first level
u nt il the desired window position is reached.

A WARNING
- Always take the vehicle key wit h you when
leaving the vehicle, even fo r a short period
of time . This applies particularly w hen ch il

power windows continue to function until
the dr iver's door or front passenge r's door
has been opened .
- Pay careful attention when closing the w in
dows . Pinch ing could ca use serio us in juries.
- When locking the vehicle from o utside, the
veh icle must be unoccup ied since the win
d ows can no longe r be o pened in an emer
g e ncy .
@ Tips
You can still o pen and close the windows for
approximately 10 mi nutes after tur ning t he
i gnition off . The power windows do not switch
off until the driver 's door o r front passenger 's
door has been open ed .
Convenience opening
All of the windows and the sunroof* can be
opened at once .
The settings in the Infota inment system specify
which w indows will open .
Convenience opening feature
~ Press and hold the~ button on the remote
control key until a ll of the w indows reach the
desired position and the sunroof* is tilted open.

Easy seat entry
Applies to: ve hicles w ith power steering whee l adj ustment
Easy seat entry makes it easier to enter and exit
the vehicle by adjusting the steering column au
tomatically .
.-In the Infotainment system, select the ICARI
funct ion button > (C ar) * Systems control but

> Vehi cle settings > Seat s > Dr iver' s seat >
Easy seat ent ry > On .
When easy seat entry is switched on, the steering
column goes back up into the park position when
the ignition is switched off . After entering the ve
h icle, the steering co lumn re turns to the stored
position once the ignition is sw itched on.

The I START ENGINE STOP I button switches the
ignition on and starts the engine.

when starting the engine in colder tempera
tures. Therefore, you must hold the brake peda l

turns on while the engine is preheating

Switching the ignition on /off
If you wo uld like to switch t he igni tion on w ith
out star ting the engine, follow these s teps:
.- Press the
I START ENGINE STOP I button with
out press ing the b rake pedal.
.- To switch the igni tion off, press the bu tton
aga in . The needle in the tachomete r moves into
the
O FF position.
The prewarming runs a utomat ica lly in diesel
vehicles when the igni tion is sw itched on .
Equ ipment that uses a lot of electricity is sw itch
ed off tempo rarily when you start the engine.
If the engine does not start immediately, the
start ing procedure stops automat ically after a
short time. Repeat the starting procedure .
Start /Stop system*
Read the information in¢ page 72, Start-Stop
system.
A WARNING
To reduce the risk of poison ing, never allow
the eng ine to run in confined spaces.
(D Note
Avo id h igh engine speed, full throttle, and
heavy engine load if the engine has not
reached operat ing temperature yet. You could
damage the eng ine.
® For the sake of the environment
Do not let the eng ine run wh ile parked to
warm up. Beg in driving immed iately. Th is re
d uces unnecessary emissions .
(D Tips
-Some noise after start ing the engine is nor
ma l and is no cause for concern .
- If you leave the veh icle w it h the ignition
switched on, the ign ition w ill switch off af
ter a certain amount of time. Make sure that electrical equipment such as the exterior
lights a re switched off.

Steering lock1

The steering locks when you turn the engine off
using the
I START ENGINE STOPI button and
open the driver's door. The locked steering helps
prevent vehicle theft.
Emergency off function*
If it is absolutely necessary, the engine can also
be turned off while driving in the R or D/S selec
tor lever position at speeds below 6 mph (10 km/
h). To stop the engine, press and hold the
I START ENGINE STOPI button and also press the
brake pedal.
~ WARNING
- Never turn off the engine before the vehicle
has come to a complete stop. The full func
tion of the brake booster and the power
steering is not guaranteed. You may need to
use more force when braking or steering.
Because you cannot brake and steer as you
usually would, this could lead to accidents
and serious injuries.
- Always take the key with you whenever you
leave your vehicle. Otherwise, the engine
could be started or electrical equipment
such as the power windows could be operat
ed. This can lead to serious injury.
- For safety reasons, always park the vehicle
with the selector lever in the P position.
Otherwise, there is the risk that the vehicle
could roll unintentionally.
(D Note
If the engine has been under heavy load for
an extended period of time, heat builds up in
the engine compartment after the engine is
switched off and there is a risk of damaging
the engine. For this reason, let the engine run
l ) This function is not available in all countr ies.
Driving
at idle for approximately two minutes before
shutting it off.
(D Tips
After the engine has been switched off, the
radiator fan can continue to run for up to 10
minutes -even with the ignition switched off.
It can also switch on again after some time if
the coolant temperature rises as the result of
heat buildup or if the engine is already warm
and the engine compartment is also heated
by the sun's rays.
Messages
Turn off ignition before leaving car
This message appears and a warning tone sounds
if you open the driver's door when the ignition is
switched on.
Press brake pedal to start engine
This message appears if you do not press the brake pedal when starting the engine.
II Key not in vehicle?
This indicator light turns on and this message ap·
pears if the ignition key was removed from the
vehicle when the engine was running.
If the igni
tion key is no longer in the vehicle, you cannot
switch on the ignition or start the engine once
you stop it. You also cannot lock the vehicle from
the outside.
Shift to P, otherwise vehicle can roll away.
Doors do not lock if lever is not in P.
This message appears for safety reasons if the
transmission is not in the P position when you
switch the ignition off. Move the selector lever to
the P position. Otherwise the vehicle is not pro
tected from rolling and it cannot be locked.

Starting the engine when there is a
malfunction
It may not be possible to start the engine under
certain circums tances, for example if the bat tery
in the vehicle key is drained , if in terference is af
fected the key or if there is a system malfunc
tion.

Start-Stop system
Description
Applies to: vehicles with Start/Stop system
The Start/Stop system can help increase fue l
eco nomy and reduce
CO2 emissions.
In Start/Stop mode, the eng ine shuts off auto
matically when the vehicle is stopped, such as at
a traffic light. The ignition rema ins swi tched on
during this stop phase. The engine w ill restart
automat ica lly w hen needed.
Applies to: A6: the Start/Stop system act ivates
automa tica lly once the ign ition is swi tched o n.
Applies to: S6: the last Start/Stop system setting
i s restored when the ignition is switched on .
Basic r equir ement s for Start /Stop mod e
-The driver's door must be closed.
- The driver's seat be lt much be fastened.
- T he hood must be closed .
- T he vehicle must have driven faste r than
2.S mph (4 km/h) since the last t ime it stop
ped .
- A t railer m ust not be hitched to the vehicle .

tions fo r Start-Stop mode are met .
Ignition is switched off automati call y
To prevent the veh icle battery from drain ing, the
ignit ion will switch off
automat ic a lly under the
following conditions:
- The vehicle must have already been driven.
- The Start/Stop system has stopped the engine.
- The driver's door must be open.
- The driver's safety be lt must be unb uckled.
- The brake pedal must not be p ressed .
- The vehicle must be stationary .
In th is case, the activated low beam is replaced
by the parking light. The parking lights will
sw itch off after approximately 30 minutes or
when you lock the vehicle .
If the Start/Stop system has not turned off the
engine or if you have sw itched the Start/Stop sys
tem off manually , the ignition will not be auto
mat ically switched off and the engine w ill contin
ue to run

Driving
In the normal mode D, the transmission auto
matically selects the suitable gear ratio. It de
pends on engine load, vehicle speed and driving
style.
Select the
spo rt mode S for sporty driving. The
vehicle makes full use of the engine 's power.
Shifting is more noticeable when accelerating.
To move from selector lever position N to D, you must press the brake pedal and the vehicle must
be traveling less than 1 mph (2 km/h) or be sta
tionary

A WARNING
-The vehicle can roll even if the ignition is
switched off .
- Never select R or P while driving, because this increases the risk of an accident.

- Power is still transmitted to the wheels
when the engine is running at idle. To pre
vent the vehicle from "creeping", you must keep your foot on the brake in all selector
lever positions (except P) when the engine is
running . Otherwise , this increases the risk
of an accident.
- Do not inadvertently press the accelerator
pedal when the vehicle is stopped if a gear is
engaged. Otherwise the vehicle will start to
move immediately, even if the parking brake
is set. This could result in a crash.
- To decrease the risk of an accident, these
lector lever must be in the P position and
the parking brake must be set before open
ing the hood and working on a running en
gine. Always read and follow the applicable
warnings

- Drive select: sporty shifting characteristics
can be selected using the
Dynamic driving
mode .Swill appear in the instrument clus
ter display instead of D.
- If you accidentally select N while driving, take your foot off the accelerator pedal and
wait for the engine to slow down to idle be
fore selecting D/S.

Selector lever lock
The selector lever lock prevents you from select
ing a gear accidentally, causing the vehicle to
roll .

To release the selector lever lock :
.,. Switch the ignition on .

.,. Press the brake pedal while pressing the inter-
lock button.
Automatic shift lock (ASL)
The selector lever is locked in the P and N posi
tions when the ignition is switched on. The re
move it from these positions , the driver must
press the brake pedal and press the lock button
at the same time . The following message ap
pears in the instrument cluster display when the
selector lever is in the P or N position to remind
the driver:
Brake pedal must be applied to shift from P
The automatic shift lock only functions when the
vehicle is stationary or at speeds below 1 mph
(2 km/h) . At higher speeds, the lock is automati
cally deactivated in the N position .
The selector lever is not locked when shifting
quickly through N, for example from R to D. This
makes it possible to free the vehicle when it is
stuck by "rocking " it. The selector lever lock en-
gages if the lever stays in the N position longer .,..
