Assist Speed warning system
Applies to: vehicles with speed warning system
The speed warning system helps you to stay un­
der a specified maximum speed.
The speed warning system warns you if you are
exceeding the maximum speed that you have set.
A warning tone will sound as soon as your speed
exceeds the stored value slightly.
The . (USA models)/ . (Canada models) indi­
cator light and a message appear in the instru­
ment cluster display at the same time. The./
• indicator light and the message turn off if the
speed falls back below the stored maximum
speed .
Setting a threshold is recommended if you would
like to be reminded when you reach a certain
maximum speed. Situations where you may want
to do so include driving in a country with a gener­
al speed limit or if there is a specified maximum
speed for winter tires.
Setting the warning threshold
The warning threshold is set in the Infotainment
system.

Regardless of the speed warning system, you
should always monitor your speed using the
speedometer and make sure you are following
the legal speed limit.

The cruise control system makes it possible to
drive at a constant speed starting at 20 mph (30
km/h) .

in the instrument cluster.
T his information is also shown briefly in the
Head-up display* .
The speed is maintained by modifying engine
power or through an active brake intervention.
A WARNING
-Always pay attention to the traffic around
you when the cruise control system is in op­
eration . You are always responsible for your
speed and the distance between your vehi­
cle and other vehicles.
- For safety reasons, cruise control should not
be used in the city, in stop-and-go traffic, on
winding roads and when road conditions are poor (such as ice, fog, gravel, heavy ra in and
hydroplaning), because this inc reases the
risk of an accident.
- Switch the cruise control off temporarily
when dr iv ing in turning lanes, highway exits

close proximity to the veh icle, active lane assist
he lps prevent the vehicle from driving too close
to them. There is also passing assistance . The
system does not provide any corrective steering if
i t detects that you are passing another veh icle .

T he driver is always respo nsible for kee ping
the vehicle within the lane .
- T he system can help you keep the vehicle in
th e lan e, but i t does not drive by itself. Al­
w ays keep yo ur hands on the steering
whee l.
- Corrective steer ing may not o ccur in ce rtain
situations , su ch as during heavy bra king.
- T here m ay be cases where the came ra does
not recognize all lane ma rker lines . Correc ­
t ive steering can o nly take p lace on the side
of the veh icle where lane marker lines are
detected.
- Other road structures or objects could possi­
bly be identified unintentiona lly as lane
marker lines . As a result, corrective steering
may be unexpected or may not occur.
- The camera view can be restricted, for ex­ ample by vehicles driv ing ahead or by rain,
snow, heavy spray or light shining into the
camera . This can result in act ive lane assist
not detec ting the lane marke r lines or de­
tecting them incor rectly.
- Under certa in conditions suc h as rut s in the
road, a bank ed roadway o r crosswinds , the
co rrective stee ring a lone may not be enough
to keep the vehicle in the mi ddle of the lane.
- F or safety reasons, active lane assis t m ust
not be used when the re are poor roa d an d/
o r we athe r cond itions s uch a s slippery
roads, fog, grave l, heavy r ain, snow a nd the
potent ial for hydroplaning . Using active lane
assist under these conditions may increase
the risk of a crash.

Indicator lights
• Ready: the indicator light turns on when the
system is ready for use. The system can now be
operated .
• Not ready : the indicator light turns on if the
system is switched on but is inoperable. This may
be due to the following reasons:
- There is no lane marker line .
- The relevant lane mar ke r li nes a re not detected
(for examp le, ma rkings in a construction zone
or because they are obstructed by snow, dirt,
water or light ing).
- The vehicle speed is be low the activation speed
of approximate ly 40 mph (65 km/h) .
- The la ne is too nar row or too wide .
- The curve is too narrow.
- The d river's hands are not on the steer ing
wheel.

l y, the indicator light in the display turns off and
one of the fo llow ing messages appears:

No camera v iew
This message appears if the camera is unable to
de tect the lines. This could happe n if:
- The camera field of view¢
page 97, fig. 102 is
dirty or covered in ice . Clean th is area on the
w indshield.
- The camera fie ld of view is fogged over. Wait
until the fog has cleared before switch ing the
active la ne assist on aga in .
- T he system has been unable to detect the lanes
for an extended p eriod of t ime due to road con­
ditions . Switch ac tive lane assist back on when
t he lines a re more visib le.

There is a temporary act ive lane assist malfunc­
tion. Try switc hing the active lane assist on again
later.

D rive to an au thor ized A udi dealer or au thorized

malfunction corrected.
Audi active lane a ssis t : Plea se take over steering
This message appears if you are not steer ing by
yourself .
If this is the case, active lane assist does
not switch off, b ut it is "not ready" to provide a
warning. The system can help you keep the vehi­
cl e in the lane. However, you are responsible for
driv ing the vehicle and must steer it yourse lf .

The following situations may affect the function
of th e night vision assist system:
- Poor v isibility such as snow, ra in , fog or heavy
spray
- Di rty lens on the nigh t vis ion assis t camera
Make sure the night vision ass ist camera
¢ fig . 114 is not covered by stickers, deposits or
any other obstructions because that can affect
the camera f unct io n. For info rmation on clean­
ing, refer to¢
page 235.
The pedestrian and wild anima l recogn ition de­
pends on the temperat ure diffe rence between
the person/w ild an imal and t he backg ro und. Peo­
p le/w ild animals may not be de tected if the dif­
ference is too small . The pedestrian/wi ld an imal
marking and the ma rking light* deactivate at
temperatures above approximately 77 °F (25 °C)
and during daylight. If the night vision assist im­
age is selected in the instrument cluster display,
then the
II symbol appears at the top on the
right s ide .
_.&. WARNING
Pay attent ion to traffic and the area around
yo ur vehicle whe n night vision assist is switch­
ed on. The dr iver is always responsible for as­
sess ing the traffic s itu ation.
- Night vis ion assist can only warn about peo­
ple and wild animals lo cated within the visu­
al range of the i nfra red camera. The visual
ra nge cor responds to the image in the in ­
strument cl uster display .
- Nigh t vision assist may not de tect people or
wild animals an d mark them if
- they are not in an upright posit ion, for ex­
ample if they are sitting or ly ing down
a nd/or
- the silho uette in the display appears in ­
comp lete o r interrup ted, fo r example be­
caus e the pe rson is pa rtially covered by a
veh icle or an animal by tall grass. This
could in cr ease the risk of an ac cident .
- Never try to swerve a round animals if doing
so w ill endanger you o r other road use rs, be­
ca use this increases the risk of an accide nt.

- Even though the system evaluates the
shape and heat given off by all detected ob­
jects, there are limits to the system. There
may be false warnings.
- For technical reasons, the image pauses in split second intervals.

- Energy management cannot overcome the
laws of physics. Note that the charge level
and length of the vehicle batte ry life are
li mited.
- When the starting ability is endangered, the

What you should know
Maintaining the starting ability is the highest
priority .
A lot of stress is placed on the vehicle battery
when driving short distances, during c ity driving,
and at co ld times of the year. A lot of energy is
used but little is generated. It is a lso critical
when the engine is not running but e lectr ica l
equ ipment is switched o n. In th is case, energy is
used but none is generated .
In s ituations like this, energy management will
actively regu late the distribution of ene rgy.
Long periods w ithout use
If yo u do not drive you r vehicle for several days or
weeks, e lectrica l equipment is gradually sca led
back or switched off. This reduces energy use and
ens ures the veh icle w ill be able to start after long
periods of time. Some convenience functions,
such as interior lighting or power seat adjust­
ment, may not be available under certain circum­
stances . These convenience functions will be
ava ilable again once you switch the ig nition on
an d s tart the engi ne.
With the engine switched off
T he vehicle battery will drain if yo u use I nfota in ­
ment f unctions such as listening to the rad io
while the eng ine is switched off .
The vehicle's ability to start may be impaired by
the energy use, a message will appear in the In ­
fotainment system d isplay .
The message ind icates that the system will
switch off automatically soon. If you wou ld like

to cont inue using the functions, you must start
t h e engine.
With the engine running
Alt hough e lectr ica l energy is ge nerated wh ile
dr iv ing , the ve hicle ba ttery can dra in. This ca n
happen if li ttle ene rgy is generate d but much is
u sed , and the charge level of the vehicle battery
is not optimal.
T o res to re the balance of ene rgy, componen ts
t h at require large amoun ts of ene rgy are tempo ­
rarily scaled back or switched off . Heat ing sys ­
tems in partic ula r req uire a great dea l of energy .
If you notice, for example, that the seat heating*
or rear window defogger is not work ing, then it
has been tempora rily reduced or sw itched off.
These systems are availab le aga in as soo n as the
energy sup ply has bee n restored .
In add ition, you may notice that the idle speed
has slig htly increased. That is normal and no
cause for concern . By increas ing the idling speed,
the addit ional required energy will be generated
and the vehicle battery will be charged .

Data Recorder and
vehicle control modules
Event Data Recorder
Th is vehicle is equ ipped w ith an Event Data Re­
corder (EDR) . The ma in purpose of a n EDR is to
r ecord, in certai n cras h or nea r crash-like situa­
ti ons, s uch as an airbag deployme nt o r hi ttin g a
road obsta cle, da ta t hat w ill ass ist in underst and­
i ng how a vehicle 's systems performed . The EDR
is des igned to record data related to vehicle dy ­
namics and safety systems for a short perio d of
t ime, typ ica lly 30 seconds or less . The EDR in this
vehicle is designed to record such data as:
- How va rious systems in your vehicle were ope r­
ating;
- W het her o r not the drive r and passenge r safety
be lts were b uckled/fastened;
- How far (if at all) the driver was dep ressing the
accelerator and/or bra ke pedal; and, .,,.

\.J ' avoid scratches, move the scraper only in
one direction and not back and forth.
- Never remove snow or ice from door win­
dows and mirrors using warm or hot water
because this could cause cracks to form.
- To avoid damage to the rear window de­
fogger, do not apply any stickers on the
heating wires on the inside of the window.
- Decorative part .s/trim
- Never use chrome care or cleaning prod-
ucts .
-Paint
- To reduce the risk of scratches, the vehicle
must be free of dirt and dust before pol­
ishing or waxing.
- To prevent paint damage, do not polish or
wax the vehicle in direct sunlight .
- To reduce the risk of paint damage, do not
polish away rust spots .
- Remove cosmetics and sunscreen immedi­
ately- these could damage the paint.
-Displays
-To avoid scratches, do not use dry cleaning
methods on displays.
-Controls
- Make sure that no fluids enter the con-
trols, because this could cause damage.
- Safety belts
- Do not remove the safety belts to clean
them.
- Never clean safety belts or their compo­
nents chemically or with corrosive fluids
or solvents and never allow sharp objects
to come into contact with the safety belts.
This could cause damage to the belt web­
bing.
- If there is damage to the webbing, the
connections, the retractors or the buckles,
have them replaced by an authorized Audi
dealer or authorized Audi Service Facility.
- Textiles/artificial leather/ Alcantara
- Never treat artificial leather/ Alcantara
with leather care products, solvents, floor
polish, shoe polish, spot remove or similar
products .
- Have a specialist remove stubborn stains
to prevent damage.
Care and cleaning
-Never use steam cleaners, brushes, hard
sponges, etc. when cleaning.
- Do not turn on the seat heating* to dry the
seat.
- Objects with sharp edges, such as zippers
or rivets on clothing or belts, can cause
damage to the surface.
- Open hook and loop fasteners, for exam­
ple on clothing, can damage seat covers.
Make sure hook and loop fasteners are
closed.
- Natural leather
- Never treat leather with solvents, floor
polish, shoe polish, spot remover or simi­
lar products.
- Objects with sharp edges, such as zippers or rivets on clothing or belts, can cause
damage to the surface.
- Never use steam cleaners, brushes, hard
sponges, etc . when cleaning.
- Do not turn on the seat heating* to dry the
seat.
- To help prevent the leather from fading,
do not leave the vehicle in direct sunlight
for long periods of time. If leaving the ve­
hicle parked for long periods of time, you
should cover the leather to protect it from
direct sunlight.

-Insects are easier to remove from paint that
has been freshly waxed.
- Regular waxing can prevent rust spots from
forming.
Placing your vehicle out
of service
If you would like to take your vehicle out of serv­
ice for a longer period of time, contact an author­
ized Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Facili­
ty. They will advise you of important measures,
such as corrosion protection, service and storage procedures . Also follow the information about
the vehicle battery~
