Instrument cluster

turn on. If the E| indicator light in the instru-
ment cluster display turns on, the coolant tem-
perature is too high > page 234.
@ Note
— Auxiliary headlights and other accessories in
front of the air intake impair the cooling ef-
fect of the coolant. This increases the risk of
the engine overheating during high outside
temperatures and heavy engine load.
— The front spoiler also helps to distribute
cooling air correctly while driving. If the
spoiler is damaged, the cooling effect will
be impaired and the risk of the engine over-
heating will increase. See an authorized
Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Fa-
cility for assistance.
Tachometer
The tachometer (@) 9 page 12 displays the engine
speed in revolutions per minute (RPM). The be-
ginning of the red zone in the tachometer indi-
cates the maximum permissible engine speed for
all gears once the engine has been broken in. Be-
fore reaching the red zone, you should shift into
the next higher gear, select the "D" or "S" selec-
tor lever position, or remove your foot from the
accelerator pedal.
Engine speed limitation
If the By indicator light turns on, the engine will
be automatically limited to the RPM displayed in
the instrument cluster. This will protect the en-
gine components, for example during a cold start
or from overheating.
The engine speed limitation will be deactivated
once the engine has reached its normal operating
temperature and you have released the accelera-
tor pedal.
If the engine speed limitation was activated by
an engine control malfunction, the B indicator
light also turns on. Make sure the engine speed
does not go above the speed displayed, for exam-
ple when downshifting. Drive to an authorized
Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Facility im-
mediately to have the malfunction corrected.
CG) Note
The needle in the tachometer may only be in
the red area of the gauge for a short period of
time before there is a risk of damaging the
engine. The location where the red zone be-
gins varies depending on the engine.
Odometer
The trip odometer and odometer are displayed in
the status line ©) > page 12.
The trip odometer shows the distance driven
since it was last reset. It can be used to measure
short distances. The odometer shows the total
distance that the vehicle has been driven.
Resetting the trip odometer
> Select on the instrument cluster: vehicle func-
tions tab > EJ button > Reset mi.
(i) Tips
Distances are displayed in mi (miles) or km
(kilometers).
Outside temperature
display
The outside temperature is displayed in the sta-
tus line ©) > page 12.
If your vehicle is stationary or if you are driving at
very low speeds, the temperature displayed in
the instrument cluster may be slightly higher
than the actual temperature outside due to heat
radiating from the engine.
At temperatures below 41 °F (+5 °C), a snowflake
symbol appears in front of the temperature dis-
play > A.

Z\ WARNING
Do not assume the roads are free of ice based
on the outside temperature display. Be aware
that there may be ice on roads even when the
outside temperature is around 41 °F (+5 °C)
and that ice can increase the risk of accidents.

Instrument cluster

Engine oil temperature
indicator
Applies to: vehicles with engine oil temperature indicator
Depending on the vehicle equipment, the engine
oil temperature %% may be indicated by a bar in
the instrument cluster.
Requirement: the vehicle functions tab must be
selected.
> Switch to the enhanced view > page 14.
Depending on the vehicle model and the selected
layout, the engine oil temperature may also be
displayed in the default view.
When engine oil temperatures are low, the dis-
play --- °F (--- °C) appears in the instrument clus-
ter. The engine has reached its operating temper-
ature when the engine oil temperature is be-
tween 176 °F (80 °C) and 248 °F (120 °C) under
normal driving conditions. The engine oil temper-
ature may be higher if there is heavy engine load
and high temperatures outside. This is not a
cause for concern as long as the BB => page 231
or Ed = page 231 indicator lights do not turn on.
Boost indicator
Applies to: vehicles with boost indicator
Depending on vehicle equipment, the current en-
gine load (meaning the current boost pressure)
may be indicated by a bar in the instrument clus-
ter.
Requirement: the vehicle functions tab must be
selected.
> Switch to the enhanced view > page 14.
Depending on the vehicle model and the selected
layout, the boost indicator may also be displayed
in the default view.
Vehicle functions
The trip computer is displayed in the first tab of
the driver information system. Additional vehicle
functions can be accessed depending on the vehi-
cle equipment.

Resetting values to zero
Requirement: the Consumption, Short-term
memory, or Long-term memory display must be
selected.
> To reset the values in one of the memories to
zero, press and hold the left thumbwheel on
the multifunction steering wheel for one sec-
ond, or
> Select on the instrument cluster: vehicle func-
tions tab > E] button > Reset mi.
Depending on the vehicle equipment, you can call
up the following displays in the on-board com-
puter one at a time by turning the left thumb-
wheel on the multifunction steering wheel:
— Time and date > page 219
— Digital speedometer
— Average consumption > page 17
— Short-term memory overview
— Long-term memory overview

— Driver assistance
— Traffic sign recognition and traffic light infor-
mation
Short-term memory and long-term memory
The short-term memory collects driving informa-
tion from the time the ignition is switched on un-
til it is switched off. If you continue driving within
two hours after switching the ignition off, the
new values will be included when calculating the
current trip information.
Unlike the short-term memory, the long-term
memory is not erased automatically. You can se-
lect the time period for evaluating trip informa-
tion yourself.

Personalization

Applies to: vehicles with personal profiles
You can store your customized settings in a per-
sonal profile. Specific settings are stored auto-
matically in the personal profile that is currently
active.
Depending on the equipment, the profile being
used is assigned to the vehicle key currently in
use. The profile that was last active with the key
is loaded when the vehicle is unlocked.
> Applies to: MMI: Select on the home screen:
USER.
Use various profiles to link them to specific vehi-
cle settings.
— Create your customized profile. This is helpful
in some situations, for example if multiple peo-
ple share the vehicle and each person would
like to use his or her individual vehicle settings.
— Guest: the guest profile can be used to adjust
settings in the vehicle without changing the
other profiles.
Active profile
— Rename: you can rename your profile so that
you can recognize by name which settings are
stored.
— Copy: you can copy your profile. Select the loca-
tion where the profile will be copied or which
profile should be overwritten. The settings will
be applied.
— Reset: you can reset your active profile to the
factory default settings.
— Reload*: Requirement: the vehicle must be sta-
tionary and the ignition must be switched on.
You can reload your profile, for example if the
seat, mirror, and steering wheel settings could
not be applied when changing profiles.
Profile selection
If you would like to change the profile, select an-
other profile from the list.

Switching personal profiles off
— Applies to: MMI: Select on the home screen:
USER > © > Personal profiles.
The personal profiles are switched on at the fac-
tory. If you do not wish to use the personal pro-
files, you can switch the function off.
G) Tips
— Certain Infotainment and vehicle settings
(such as mirrors) may be stored, depending
on vehicle equipment. You can find addi-
tional information in the MMI. Select on the
home screen: SETTINGS > General > Legal
notes > About Audi connect.
—The guest profile cannot be renamed.
— When changing profiles, the new profile
settings are loaded in the vehicle.
— You can reset all personal profiles to the
factory default settings.
Applies to: vehicles with myAudi login
Requirement: you must have successfully regis-
tered at my.audi.com.
Logging in from the vehicle
Applies to: MMI
> Select on the home screen: USER > myAudi
login.
> Log in to myAudi in the vehicle using your e-
mail address and password.
You can select if and when an automatic login to
myAudi in the vehicle should occur.
— Personal profile: Requirement: the personal
profile must be turned on and you must not be
logged in with the guest profile. Log in to
myAudi in the vehicle. Follow the system in-
structions and save your desired personal pro-
file. You will then always be logged in automat-
ically when your personal profile is active.
— Bluetooth device 1/Bluetooth device 2*: Re-
quirement: after a Bluetooth device has been
paired with the MMI, you must be logged in to
myAudi in the vehicle. Follow the system in-
structions and save the desired Bluetooth de-
vice. You will be automatically logged in when >

your Bluetooth device is connected to the MMI,
and automatically logged out when the Blue-
tooth connection to your mobile device is dis-
connected.
To transfer existing destinations from the MMI to
your myAudi account one time, confirm the sys-
tem prompts with Yes.
G) Tips
— For some Audi connect Infotainment serv-
ices, you may also have to enter your myAu-
di access information when accessing serv-
ices in the MMI.
— Regardless of the key user and additional
users, you can only connect one myAudi ac-
count to your vehicle.
User management
Applies to: vehicles with user management
The vehicle owner must be set up as the key user
for some Audi connect vehicle control services,
which depend on the vehicle equipment.
Setting the key user
Requirement: a key user must not be set yet.
> To set a key user for the vehicle, you will need a
myAudi account. Register at my.audi.com.
> Add your vehicle at my.audi.com and then veri-
fy your myAudi account using the verification
process that is provided.
> Applies to MMI: Select on the home screen:
USER > User management > (Key user) > Set
key user.
> Applies to: MMI: Follow the system instructions
and enter the 10-digit vehicle code > page 36.
The key user is set. You have the rights to use
the
Audi connect vehicle control services
= page 176 that depend on vehicle equipment
as well as the ability to manage other vehicle
functions and any other users.
Managing additional users
Depending on the vehicle equipment, you can
grant authorization for additional users to use
Audi connect vehicle control services at my.audi.
com.
Removing the key user
If you remove the key user, all other users and
their authorizations will be deleted. It will no
longer be possible to use the Audi connect vehi-
cle control services, depending on the vehicle
equipment.
Requirement: a key user must be set.
> Applies to: MMI: Select on the home screen:
USER > User management > (Key user) > Re-
move key user.
@) Tips
— Depending on the country, you may be able
to use the myAudi app or my.audi.com.
— Depending on the vehicle equipment, you
may be able to reset specific functions to
the factory default settings.
— Depending on the vehicle equipment, log-
ging into myAudi in the vehicle may not be
required to use Audi connect vehicle control
services.
— If you sell your vehicle, remove the key user
and reset all settings to the factory set-
tings.
— Store the vehicle code in a secure place. It
may be necessary to re-enter the vehicle
code.
— Pay attention to upper- and lower-case let-
ters when entering the vehicle code.
— If you do not have the 10-digit vehicle code,
contact an authorized Audi dealer or author-
ized Audi Service Facility.

With the garage door opener, you can activate
systems such as the garage doors, security sys-
tems or house lights from inside your vehicle.
These functions are operated in the MMI. Multi-
ple receivers can be programmed, which can con-
trol the functions of up to eight!) hand-held
transmitters.

A WARNING
— When operating or programming the garage
door opener, make sure that no people or
objects are in the area immediately sur-
rounding the equipment. People can be in-
jured or property can be damaged if struck
when closing.
— Do not allow yourself to be distracted from
traffic by the viewing and operating the dis-
plays.
@ Tips
— If you sell your vehicle, remove the key user
= page 31 and reset all settings to the fac-
tory settings > page 220.
— For an explanation on conformity with the
FCC regulations in the United States and the
Industry Canada regulations, see

rage door opener, first check the compatibili-

— You can display information about Home-
Link (compatibility level/status/country
code/HomeLink generation) in the MMI:
— Select on the home screen: VEHICLE > Set-
tings & Service > Garage door opener > ©.
Applies to: vehicles with garage door opener
Requirements: the remote control transmitter
must be programmed > page 46, the vehicle
must be within range of the system, and the igni-
tion must be switched on.
There are multiple options to open or close the
system (such as the garage door).
> If you have only programmed one remote con-
trol transmitter, press the - button on the
lower display. Or
> If you have programmed multiple remote con-
trol transmitters, press the -@ button on the
lower display and then press the respective sys-
tem button. Or
> If you have configured the programmable
steering wheel button*, press the *K button
= page 29 and then press the respective button
for the system. Or
> Applies to: vehicles with GPS pairing: If you
have programmed Location pairing, press the
button for this in the upper display (notification
center > page 22). As you approach the system,
the button is displayed on the MMI.
If transmission was successful, the message:

Sitting correctly and safely

Depending on the vehicle equipment, the follow-
ing options may be available.
Reset seat position
You can adjust the position of the front passeng-
er’s seat to match the driver's seat.
Driver seat entry assistance/Front passenger
seat entry assistance
Entry assistance makes it easier to enter or exit
the vehicle.
Adjusting the front passenger's seat from
Aiea aera
Applies to: vehicles with front passenger seat adjustment
You can adjust the front passenger's side with the
driver's seat buttons.
Applies to: MMI:
> Select on the home screen: VEHICLE > Seats.
> To display the various seats, press ) or ¢.
> To switch on the function, press the 2/ button.
The lower edge of the button will turn red.
After you have switched on the function, you can
adjust the front passenger's seat using the driv-
er's seat buttons > page 60, fig. 48.
@ Tips
The function switches off automatically when
you exit the menu.
Front center armrest
Applies to: vehicles with a front center armrest
The front center armrest is located between the
front seats.
Adjusting the center armrest
> To adjust the armrest forward or backward,
move the armrest in the desired direction.
> To adjust the angle, raise the armrest from the
starting position in stages.
> To bring the armrest back into the starting po-
sition, raise
it out of the top level and fold it
back down.

ZA WARNING
In certain positions, the front center armrest
can interfere with the driver’s arm movement,
which increases the risk of injury.

Steering wheel
General information
Make sure that:
— The distance between your upper body and the
steering wheel is at least 10 in (25 cm)
— Your arms are bent slightly at the elbows
— You have a sufficient view of the area around
the vehicle and you have a clear view of the in-
strument cluster and head-up display”.
— You are always holding the steering wheel with
both hands on the outer edge at the sides (9:00
and 3:00 position) when driving

ZA\ WARNING
—To reduce the risk of an accident, make sure
the steering wheel is adjusted correctly and
cannot be moved out of position before you
start to drive.
— If you are too close to the steering wheel,
the driver's airbag cannot provide optimal
protection, which increases the risk of injury
or fatality.
— Never hold the steering wheel in the 12:00
position or in any other way, such as holding
the center of the steering wheel. Otherwise,
your arms, hands, and head could be injured
in the event that the driver's airbag deploys.

Driving

— Press the release button @ on the selector lev-
er.
—To select the nearest gear, move the selector
lever forward or back until you feel the first
pressure point.
—To skip a gear (for example, move from “D” to
“R”), move the selector lever past the pressure
point in the desired direction.
— The label next to the selector lever for the se-
lected gear will light up.
“N” (Neutral) gear
In the “N” gear, power is not transmitted to the
driving wheels. Use the “N” gear in a car wash
(with conveyor belts), for example.
If you unintentionally select “N” while driving
(faster than 1 mph (2 km/h)), you can also shift
back to “D” without pressing the brake pedal.
For safety reasons, the vehicle cannot be locked
when the transmission is in the "N” gear.
“P” (Park) gear
Requirement: the ignition must be switched on.
The vehicle is secured from rolling away by the
parking lock when in the “P” gear.
— Bring the vehicle to a full stop and press the
brake pedal.
— Press the “P” button @) on the selector lever.
— The “P” next to the selector lever will light up.
“P” engages automatically if you switch the en-
gine off while the “D” or “R” gear is selected. If
you switch the engine off in “N”, “P” will engage
automatically after approximately 30 minutes.
Applies to: vehicles with S tronic transmission: If
you want to shift from “P” to “D” or “R”, the en-
gine must be running.
Applies to: vehicles with tiptronic transmission:
If you want to switch to another gear from “P”,
the engine must be running.
If you cannot shift out of “P”, for example be-
cause the vehicle has no power, you may need to
use the emergency release for the parking lock
=>page 95.
Selecting the driving program
Various driving programs can be selected when in
the “D” gear. The programs influence when the
transmission shifts and how the accelerator ped-
al responds.
The selected driving program is displayed in the
instrument cluster.
—D (Drive): normal driving mode
—S (Sport): sporty driving mode
If you select the Dynamic mode in Audi drive se-
lect*, the “S” driving program will be activated.
When the ignition is switched off, the driving pro-
gram may be reset to “D”.
To switch between the current driving program
and “S”, push the selector lever toward the rear.

ZA WARNING
— Before starting to drive, check if the desired
gear is displayed next to the selector lever.
— Always secure your vehicle from rolling
away. Press the brake pedal or shift to “P”.
When leaving the vehicle, also set the park-
ing brake.
— Power is still transmitted to the wheels
when the engine is running at idle. To pre-
vent the vehicle from “creeping”, you must
keep your foot on the brake in all selector
lever positions (except "P" and "N") when
the engine is running.
—To reduce the risk of an accident, do not
press the accelerator pedal when changing
gears if the vehicle is stationary and the en-
gine is running.
— Never select the “R" or "P” gears while driv-
ing. Doing so could cause an accident.
— The vehicle can roll even if the ignition is
switched off.
@ Tips
If you shift between “D” and “R” within one
second, you do not need to press the brake
pedal. This makes it possible to “rock” if it is
stuck, for example.

Driving

ETM ace)
Applies to: vehicles with S tronic transmission and Launch
Control
Launch Control provides the best possible accel-
eration when starting from a stop.
Requirements
— The engine must be at operating temperature.
— The steering wheel must not be turned.
— Start/Stop system* must be deactivated
=> page 98.
— ESC must be limited > page 108.
— Driving program “S” > page 93 or the Dynamic
Audi drive select* mode must be selected
=> page 104.
Using Launch Control
— Press the brake pedal firmly with your left foot
and hold it all the way down for at least one
second.
— With the brake pedal pressed, press the accel-
erator pedal all the way down with your right
foot at the same time.
— Once the engine reaches a constant speed, re-
move your foot from the brake pedal.
Once the vehicle has started moving, reactivate
the ESC so that it is fully functional.

ZA WARNING
Only use Launch Control when road and traffic
conditions allow it and other road users will
not be endangered or impacted by your driv-
ing and the vehicle's acceleration. The driving
wheels could spin and the vehicle could
swerve, especially on slick or slippery road
surfaces, which increases the risk of an acci-
dent.
(@) Note
When accelerating using Launch Control, all
vehicle components are subject to heavy
loads. This can result in increased wear.
@) Tips
After accelerating using the Launch Control,
the temperature of some vehicle components
may increase greatly. If that happens, the

function will not be available for a few mi-
nutes to reduce the risk of damage. After a
cool-down period, Launch Control will be
available again.
Parking lock emergency release

The emergency release is located in the front cup
holder under a cover. Read and follow the impor-
tant instructions about towing > page 275.
Releasing the parking lock using the
emergency release
> Set the parking brake to secure your vehicle
from rolling away. If this is not possible, secure
your vehicle from rolling using another meth-
od.
> Remove the rubber mat.
> Pry the cover off the opening using the screw-
driver from the vehicle tool kit.
> Insert the socket wrench from the vehicle tool
kit in the opening so that the handle points to-
ward the front passenger's side.
» Turn the socket wrench clockwise (4) until it
stops and press it downward @) until it locks in-
to place.
> Leave the socket wrench inserted.
Resetting the parking lock
> Grasp the socket wrench with both hands, care-
fully pull it all the way up, and then turn it
back.
> Now remove the socket wrench.
> Reinsert the cover and rubber mat.

Driving

Emergency braking function
Emergency braking should only be used in an
emergency, if the standard brake pedal is mal-
functioning or obstructed. When the emergency
braking function is activated, the braking effect is
similar to a heavy braking maneuver.
> Pull and hold the ©) switch while driving.
> An audio warning signal will sound and emer-
gency braking will begin.
> If you press the accelerator pedal, emergency
braking will be canceled.

ZA WARNING
Heavy braking while driving through curves or
in poor road or weather conditions can cause
the vehicle to slide or the rear of the vehicle to
swerve, which increases the risk of an acci-
dent.
Messages
Ga / @ Parking brake: malfunction! Safely
stop vehicle. See owner's manual


There is a malfunction in the parking brake. If the
message appears while stationary, check if the
parking brake is released and can be reset. If this
is the case, switch the ignition off and back on.
If the message continues to appear, if the park-
ing brake cannot be released, or if the message
appears while driving, then stop the vehicle on
level
ground and shift to “P”. Do not continue
driving. See an authorized Audi dealer or author-
ized Audi Service Facility for assistance.
Gg / @ Parking brake: malfunction! Please
release parking brake
There
is a malfunction in the parking brake. If the
message appears while stationary, check if the
parking brake is released and can be reset. If this
is the case, switch the ignition off and back on.
If the message continues to appear, if the park-
ing brake cannot be released, or if the message
appears while driving, then stop the vehicle on
level ground and shift to “P”. Do not continue

tion corrected. Do not park the vehicle on inclines
and shift to “P”.

tion too steep
The braking force may not be enough to secure
the vehicle from rolling away. Park the vehicle in
a place with less of an incline.

The parking brake is set. Press and hold the brake
pedal
to release the parking brake.
Special driving situations
Driving uphill and downhill
When driving uphill, downhill, or at high alti-
tudes, note the following information:
— Drive slowly and carefully.
— Do not try to turn around if you cannot safely
drive on an incline or hill. Instead, drive in re-
verse.
— When driving down hills, you can activate the
hill descent control if you press the brake pedal
while driving in “D” gear. The automatic trans-
mission will select a gear suitable for driving
down the hill and will attempt to maintain the
speed at which the vehicle was traveling at the
time the brake pedal was pressed. Press the
brake pedal if necessary. The hill descent con-
trol will switch off once the hill levels out or
you press the accelerator pedal.
— Utilize the engine braking effect when driving
downhill by selecting the “S” driving program
=> page 93. This especially applies when towing
a trailer. This reduces the load on the brakes.
— Brake in intervals and do not press the brake
pedal continuously.

ZA WARNING
— Only drive on inclines that your vehicle is de-
signed to handle. Do not exceed the hill >

Audi drive select
Introduction
Applies to: vehicles with Audi drive select
Drive select makes it possible to experience dif
ferent types of vehicle characteristics in one vehi-
cle. With different driving modes, the driver can
switch the setting, for example from sporty to
comfortable. This allows you to adjust the set-
tings to your personal preferences. This makes it
possible to combine settings such as a sporty
drivetrain setting with comfortable steering.
Selecting an Audi drive select mode
Applies to: vehicles with Audi drive select

> Press the left or right arrow key > fig. 80 until

VEHICLE > Audi drive select.
You can change the driving mode when the vehi-
cle is stationary or while driving. If traffic per-
mits, briefly remove your foot from the accelera-
tor pedal after changing modes so that the mode
you have selected will be activated for the drive
system.
The following modes are available depending on
the equipment:
comfort - Provides a comfort-oriented vehicle
setup and is suited for long drives on highways.
auto - Provides an overall comfortable yet dy-
namic driving feel and is suited for everyday use.

dynamic - Gives the driver a sporty driving feel
and is suited to a sporty driving style. The “S”
driving program is selected.
individual - Provides the option for personalized
vehicle settings. Press ¥ to configure the mode
=> page 104, Individual settings.
G) Tips
When the ignition is being switched on, indi-
vidual systems, such as the drive system, will
be reset to a balanced setting. Select the cur-
rent mode again to attain its full configura-
tion.
Individual settings
Applies to: vehicles with Audi drive select
The equipment in your vehicle will determine
which settings you can adjust.
Drive
The drive system will react to accelerator pedal
moves more quickly or in a more balanced man-
ner. The shift points are placed in higher or lower
speed ranges.
Depending on the setting, the drive power at the
rear axle will be distributed with the sport differ-
ential* to be more sporty or moderate
=> page 108.
Steering
The power steering will adapt. Light steering is
suitable for long trips on highways or smooth
driving around curves, for example.
Suspension
The suspension adjusts to be tighter or more
comfort-oriented when it comes to compensat-
