MMI settings
Applies to vehicles: with side assist
The basic brightness setting of the signal on
the outside mirror can be adjusted via the
MMI.
~ Select: ICARI function button> Car systems
control button > Driver assist > Audi side
assist.
The brightness of the signal light for both the informational and alert stages is automatical­
ly adjusted to ambient light conditions. In ad­
dition, you can adjust the
basic brightness
separately, via the brightness function .
While making the adjustment, the new brightness setting is displayed briefly . The
brightness displayed is that of the informa­
tional stage signal. The alert stage signal
brightness is linked to the informational stage
signal brightness.
The informational stage signal brightness
should be adjusted so that you notice the sig­
nal illumination when you look in the outside
mirror, but not when you look forward
through the windshield .
In very dark or light surroundings, the auto­
matic brightness setting adjusts signal light
brightness to maximum or minimum intensi­
ty, as needed. In circumstances such as these,
you may not notice any change in the bright­
ness on the outside mirror when adjusting the
basic brightness. You may not notice the
change until lighting conditions are normal
again.
(D Tips
- Side assist is not active when the basic
brightness is adjusted. The signal light
comes on briefly to help you make the
adjustment .
- Your settings are automatically stored
and assigned to the remote control key
being used.

Side assist has limits and cannot detect vehi­
cles under all road and weather conditions.
Please remember system limitations and nev­
er rely on the system, especially when :
- driving through curves

When driving through curves
Applies to vehicles: wit h side assist
Side assist cannot detect vehicles in curves
with a turning radius of less than 328 feet
(100 m).
When driving through a curve, it is possible
that side assist may register a vehicle two
lanes over, and the signal on the outside mir­
ror will light up.
Lane width

Side assist's detection area is designed to cov-
er lanes of standard width to the left and ..,.

pedal movements, and steering is sporty and
more direct*. The sport differentia l* provides
mo re agility, the air suspension is tighter and
the transm ission shifts at a higher RPM. The
cornering light also reac ts in a sporty way. The
setting is ideal for sporty driving.

You can adapt this mode to your personal
needs in the MMI

Adjusting the Individual mode
You can adjust the vehicle settings to your
personal preference s.

Raising/lowering the
vehicle
Raising the vehicle
You can raise your ve hicle temporarily, for ex­
ample to drive over a tall curb .

.. Wait for the arrows in the display to stop
blinking and the vehicle to reach its final po­
s it ion.
Lowering the vehicle
.. To lower the vehicle, se lect the following in

Q) Note
- Remember that your vehicle is not suita­
ble for dr iv ing offroad even when it is
raised. There is not enough ground clear­
ance .
- If the vehicle is raised, it will lower auto­
matically when driving 62 mph (100 km/
h) or faster.
Driver messages
Air suspension : vehicle currently too low .
Level control running
Air suspension : vehicle currently too high.
Level control running
T he driver message switches off when the lev­
el control process is complete.

Off -when the parking system is switched off,
only audible signals are given.
Warning tones
Front volume -front sensor vo lume
Rear volume -rear sensor volume
Front frequency -front sensor frequency
Rear frequency -rear sensor frequency
Music volume while parking -when the park­
ing system is switched on, the volume of the
active audio source is lowered.
The newly adjusted value is briefly heard from
the signal generator.
(D Tips
- The warning tones can also be adjusted
directly by the v isual display or the pic­
ture from the rear v iew camera. Simp ly
press the
Settings control button.
- Changed settings are activated when
parking system is switched on aga in.
- The settings are automatically stored
and ass igned to the remote control key.
Error messages
App lies to vehicles: with parking system advanced
There is an error in the system if the LED on
the
P' #A switch is blinking and you hear a con­
tinuous alarm for a few seconds afte r switch­
ing on the parking system or when the park­
ing system is a lready act ivated. Have your au­
thorized Audi dealer correct the error.
(D Tips
If the error is not corrected before you
sw itch off the ignition, when you switch on
the parking system again, the LED in the
P,#A switch will blink.

Programming a button
The requ ired distance between the handhe ld
transmit ter and the Homeli nk modu le in the
bumpe r depends on the system that you are
programming . You may have to try severa l
times.
Each of the buttons can be reprogrammed in­
dividually. The procedure is the same as fo r in ­
itia l programming.

Erasing the button programming
Ind ividual buttons can be reprogrammed. Fol­
low the same steps used when first program­
ming the button.
If you would like to erase all prog rammed but­
t ons at the same time, sele ct Erase bu tton

Important safety instructions about
safety belts
Safety belts must always be correctly posi­
tioned across the strongest bones of your
body.
,.. Always wear safety belts as illustrated and
described in this chapter.
,.. Make sure that your safety belts are always
ready for use and are not damaged.
A WARNING
Not wearing safety belts or wearing them
improperly increases the risk of serious
personal injury and death. Safety belts can
work only when used correctly .
- Always fasten your safety belts correctly
before driving
off and make sure all pas­
sengers are correctly restrained.
- For maximum protection, safety belts must always be positioned properly on
the body .
- Never strap more than one person , in­
cluding small children, into any belt.
- Never place a safety belt over a child sit­ ting on your lap.
- Always keep feet in the footwell in front
of the seat while the vehicle is being driv­
en .
- Never let any person ride with their feet on the instrument panel or sticking out
the window or on the seat .
- Never remove a safety belt while the ve­
hicle is moving. Doing so will increase
your risk of be ing injured or killed.
- Never wear belts twisted.
- Never wear belts over rigid or breakable
objects in or on your clothing, such as
eye glasses, pens, keys, etc., as these
may cause injury.
- Never allow safety belts to become dam­
aged by being caught in door or seat
hardware .
- Do not wear the shoulder pa rt of the belt
under your arm or otherwise out of pos i­
tion . -
Several layers of heavy clothing may in­
terfere with correct positioning of belts
and reduce the overall effectiveness of
the system .
- Always keep belt buckles free of anything
that may prevent the buckle from latch­
ing securely .
- Never use comfort clips or devices that
create slack in the shoulder belt . Howev­
er, special clips may be required for the
proper use of some child restraint sys­
tems .
- Torn or frayed safety belts can tear, and
damaged belt hardware can break in an
accident. Inspect belts regularly .
If web­
bing, bindings, buck les, or retractors are
damaged, have belts replaced by an au ­
thorized Audi dealer or qualified work­
shop.
- Safety belts that have been worn and
loaded in an accident must be replaced
with the correct replacement safety belt
by an authorized Audi dealer . Replace­
ment may be necessary even if damage
cannot be clearly seen . Anchorages that
were loaded must also be inspected.
- Never remove, modify, disassemble, or
try to repair the safety belts yourself.
- Always keep the belts clean. Dirty belts
may not work properly and can impair
the function of the inert ia reel

Automatic safety belt retractor s
Every safety belt is equipped with an automat­
ic belt retractor on the shoulder belt. Th is fea ­
ture locks the belt when the belt is pulled out
fast, dur ing hard braking and in an accident .
The belt may also lo ck when you drive up or
down a steep hill or through a sharp curve .
During normal driving the belt le ts you
move
freely.
Safety belt pretensione rs
The safety belts are equipped with a belt p re­
tensioner that helps to t igh ten the safety belt
and remove s lack when the pretensione r is ac­
tivated
c::> page 143. The function of the pre ­
tensioner is monitored by a warning light
c::> page 18 .
Switchable locking f eature
Every safety belt except the one on the driver
seat is eq uipped w ith a switchable locking fea­
ture that
mu st be used when the safety belt is
used to attach a child seat. Be sure to read the important information about this feature

- Never attach the safety belt to the buck­
le for another seat. Attaching the belt to
the wrong buckle will reduce safety belt
effectiveness and can cause serious per­
sonal injury .
- A passenger who is not properly restrain­
ed can be seriously injured by the safety
be lt itself when it
moves from the stron­
ge r parts of the body into critical ar eas
like the abdomen.
- Always lock the convertible locking re­
tracto r when you are secu ring a child
se at in the veh icle

Use the height adjustment to change the posi­
t ion of the shoulder belt of the front safety
belts.

What you should know
The highest priority is given to maintaining
starting capability.
The battery is severely taxed in short-distance
driving, in city traffic and during the cold time
of year. Abundant electr ical energy is re­
qu ired, but only a little is generated. It is also
cr itical if the e ngine is not run ning and elect ri­
cal components a re turned on. In th is in­
stance energy is being consumed but none is be ing generated .
I t is in precisely these situations that you w ill
notice energy managemen t actively regulat ­
ing the distrib ution of energy.
Vehicle stands for an ext ended period
If you do not drive your vehicle over a period
of severa l days or weeks, elect rical compo­
nents are grad ually cu t back o r switched off .
This reduces energy co nsu mption and main­
tains starting cap abili ty
over a longer period.
Be aware that when you unlock you r vehicle,
some of the conve nience funct ions may not
ope rate, such as the Convenience key , the re­
mote cont ro l or the power seat adjustment .
The convenience functions will be availab le
aga in when you switch on the ignition and
start the engine .
With the engine turned off
If yo u lis ten to the radio, for example, with
the eng ine turned off or use othe r MM I fu nc­
tions, the battery is being discharged .
I f sta rting capability is jeopa rdized due to e n­
e rgy consumpt ion, the fo llow ing warning ap­
pears in the MMI disp lay :
Please start th e engine soon or th e syst em
will be turned off .
The warning ind icates that the system will be
turned off automatically after 3 m inu tes .
If
you wish to cont inu e us ing the functions , you
have to start the engine.
With the engine running
Although e lec trical energy is generated when
the vehicle is being driven, the battery can be ­
come discharged. This happens mostly when
li ttle energy is being generated and a g reat
deal consumed and the battery's state of
charge is not optimal.
To b ring the energy ba lance back into equili­
brium, consumers which req uire especially
l arge amounts of energy are temporar ily cut
back or sw itched off. Heat ing systems i n par­
ticular require a great deal of energy. If you
notice , for example, that the heated seats* o r
the heated rear window are not heating, they have been temporarily cut back or sw itched
off . These systems w ill be available again as
soon as the ene rgy balance has been restored.
You w ill also notice that engi ne idle speed has
been increased slightly . Thi s is normal and not
a cause for con ce rn. By inc reas ing eng ine id le
speed the addi tional energy requ ired is gener­
ated and the battery is charged.

Because of the problem of proper disposa l
of brake fl uid as we ll as the special tools
requ ired and the necessary expert ise, we
recommend that you have t he brake fluid
changed by your author ized Audi dealer .
Battery
General information
Under normal operating conditions, the bat­
tery in your Audi does not need any mainte ­
nance. With
high outside temperatures or
long daily dr ive s we recommend that you have
the electro lyte level checked by a service fa­
cility . The electrolyte level shou ld a lso be
checked each time the battery is charged
¢ page 235.
Have the battery checked when you take your
ve hicle in for service . Yo u are well adv ised to
replace a battery that is older than 5 yea rs .
W ith certa in types of a irbag deployment, t he
b attery is d isconnected from the vehicle elec­
tr ica l system for safety reasons¢.&.

Disconnecting the battery terminals
Some vehicle functions (power w indow regu­
lators , for example) are lost if the battery ter­
m inals a re d isconnected. These func tions have
to be re lea rned after the batte ry term inals a re
connected agai n. T o prevent this , the bat tery
should only be d isconnec ted from the vehicle
e lec tric al system when absolu tely necessa ry
for repairs .
Vehicles not driven for long periods
If you do not drive you r vehicle over a period
of severa l days or weeks, elec trical compo­

Winter operat ion
D uring the w inte r mon ths, bat tery capacity
tends to dec rease as temperatures drop . This
is beca use more power is a lso consumed wh ile
starting, and the headlights, rear window de­
fogger, etc., are used more often.
Avoid unnecessary powe r consum ptio n, pa r­
ticu lar ly in city traffic or when traveling only
short distances. Let your autho riz ed Audi
dealer check the capacity of the vehicle bat­
te ry before w inter sets in¢
page 235 . A well
c h arged battery will not on ly prevent s tarti ng
problems w hen the weather is cold, but wi ll
also last longer.

weeks at extremely low temperatures, the

Working on the battery
Be especially careful when working on or near
the bat tery.
