gency. Keep it in a safe place and do not carry it on your key ring .

If you lose a key, contact your authorized Audi
dealer immediately to have the

bled. Be sure to bring all your keys with you.

If two peop le use one vehicle, it is recomĀ
mended that each person always uses "their
own" master key . When the ignition is switchĀ
ed off or when the vehicle is locked, personal
convenience settings for the follow ing sysĀ
tems are stored and ass igned to the remote
maste r key.

T he stored settings are automatically recalled
when you unlock the vehicle, when you open the doors or when you switch the ignition on.
A WARNING
-- Do not leave your vehicle unattended. A lĀ
ways take your ignit ion key with you and
lock your vehicle. Entry by unauthorized
pe rsons could endanger you or result in
theft or damage the vehicle.
- Do not leave ch ildren unattended in the
veh icle, especially with access to vehicle
keys. Unguarded access to the keys proĀ
vides children the opportun ity to s tart
the engine and/or ac tiva te vehicle sysĀ
tems such as the power windows, etc.
Unsupervised operation of any vehicle
system by children can result in serious
inj ury.

- The ope ration of the remote con trol key
can be temporarily disrupted by interfe rĀ
ence from transm itters in the vic inity of
the vehicle working in the same frequenĀ
cy range (e .g. a cell phone, radio equ ipĀ
ment).
- For security reasons, rep lacement keys
are only avai lable from Audi dealers.

⢠The check light turns on briefly once when a
button is pressed, and dur ing an "inqu iry"
by the convenience key system.

battery holder and at the same time pull the
battery holder out of the master key in the
direction of the arrow .
⢠Install the new battery CR 2032 with the
"+ " sign facing down.
⢠Push the battery holder carefu lly into the
maste r key.
⢠Install the mechan ical key.
@ For the sake of the environment
D ispose of dead batteries properly so as
not to poll ute the environment.
@ Tips
The rep lacement battery must be the
same specifica tion as the o rigina l.
Electronic immobilizer
The immobilizer helps to prevent unauthorĀ
ized use of your vehicle .
A computer chip ins ide your key automatically
deact ivates the electron ic immobilizer when
the key is inside the vehicle . When you remove
the key from the vehicle, the elect ron ic immo Ā
bilizer is automa tically ac tivated once aga in.
& WARNING
A lways take the key with you when you
leave the vehicle. The key can disarm the
e lectronic engine immobilizer and permit
an unauthorized person to start the engine
and enable operation of the vehicle sysĀ
tems such as power w indow or power sun-
roof leading to serious pe rsonal injury .

- The vehicle cann ot be starte d if an unauĀ
thorized key is used. The ve hicle may not
start if another radio device such as a key
for another vehicle or a transponder is located on the key ring .

Power locking system
General description
The power locking system locks or unlocks all
doors and the luggage compartment lid siĀ
multaneously.
You can lock and u nlock the vehicle centrally.
You have the following choices:
- Remote master key~
page 34,
-Door handles with convenience key*
Ā¢page 34,
- Lock cylinder at the dr iver 's door
Ā¢ page 35, or
- Power locking switch inside¢
page 35.
Sele ct ive unloc king
When you lock the vehicle, the powe r locking
system wi ll lock t he doors and the l uggage
compartment lid. When unlocking, you can
set in the MMI whether only the driver's door
or the entire vehicle should be unlocked
Ā¢ page 33.
Automatic locking
The automatic locking feat ure locks all the veĀ
h icle doors and the luggage compartment lid
when you drive faster than 9 mph (15 km/h).
The ca r is un locked again, when the opening
function in the power locking system switch
or at one of the door levers is actuated. The
Auto Lock function can be turned on and off in
the MMI
Ā¢ page 33.
Anti-theft alarm warning system
If the an ti- t h eft alarm warning sys tem deĀ
tects a b reak-in into the vehicle, acoustic and
vis ual warn ing s ignals a re triggered .
T he anti-theft w arning sys tem is activated auĀ
tomat ica lly when you lock the vehi cle. It is deĀ
activated when unlocking using the remote
key, w ith the mechanica l key, and when yo u
switch the ignition on.
T he alarm a lso t urns off when the a larm cy cle
has expired .
Turn signals
When you unlock the veh icle, the turn s ignals
flash twice. When you lock the vehicle once,
t h e turn signals flash once. If they do not
flash, one of the doors, the luggage compartĀ
ment lid or the hood is not locked .
Unintentionally locking yourself out
In the fo llow ing cases there safeg uards to
prevent yo u locking you r remo te master key i n
the vehi cle:
- The vehicle does not lock w it h the central
lock ing switch ¢

- On veh icles with convenience key*, if the
most recently used master key is in the lugĀ
gage compartment, the luggage compa rtĀ

Power side door closer*
T he veh icle doo rs are equipped with a powe r
s ide doo r closer . When clos ing a door, you onĀ
ly have to le t it fall light ly into the latch. The
doo r will the n automatically close by itself

If the vehicle is unlocked and no door, the lugĀ
gage compartment lid or the hood is opened
within 60 seconds, the vehicle locks itself
again automatically. This feature prevents the
vehicle from being acc identally left unlocked
over a long per iod of time .
It depends on the sett ings in the MMI whethĀ
er the entire vehicle is unlocked or only cerĀ
tain doors

@ Tips
-In order to make sure the locking funcĀ
tion is working, you should always keep
your eye on the vehicle to make sure it is
properly locked. -
Do not use the remote control if you are
inside the car, otherwise you may uninĀ
tentionally lock the vehicle, and then you
would set off the anti-theft alarm when
you try to start the eng ine or open a
door. In case this happens anyhow, push
the unlock button

-The vehicle can only be locked when the
selector lever is in the P position.
- Use the panic function only if you are in
an emergency s ituation.

Do not reach inside the door handle.
The vehicle can be locked and unlocked at any
doo r. The master key must be within a range
of about 1.5 m from the appropriate door or
the luggage compartment lid. It makes no difĀ
ference whether the master key is in your jack-
et pocket or in your brief case . ..,

turns off the engine, the ignit ion remains on .

switch the ignition off during a stop phase.
Steering lock
The stee ring lo cks w hen you t urn the engine
off using the
I S TART ENGINE STOP I button
and open the dr iver's door . The locked steerĀ
ing helps prevent vehicle theft .
Emergency off
If necessary, the eng ine ca n be sw itched off
with the selector lever in the R, Dor S pos iĀ
tions . The eng ine stops if you press the
I START ENGINE STOP ! button at speeds be low
6 mph (10 km/h) .
A WARNING
-Never turn off the engine before the veĀ
hicle has come to a complete stop. The
full function of the brake booster and the power steering is not quara nteed. You
must use more force to turn or b rake if
necessary. Because you cannot stee r and
brake as you usua lly would, th is could
lead to c rashes and serious injur ies.
- For safety reasons, you shou ld always
par k your vehicle with the se lector lever
in P. Otherwise, the ve hicle co uld i nadĀ
vertent ly roll away .
- After the engine has been switched off,
the radia tor fan can continue to run fo r
up to 10 min utes -even with the ign it ion
switched off. It can a lso switch on again
after some time if the coolant temperaĀ
ture rises as the result of a heat buildup
or if the engine is hot and the engine
compartment is addit ionally heated by
the su n's rays.

Do not stop the eng ine immediately after
hard or extended driving . Keep the eng ine
runn ing for approximate ly two minutes to
prevent excess ive heat bu ild-up.

Press brake pedal to start eng ine
This message appears if you press the
I START ENGINE STOPI button to start the enĀ
gine and do not depress the brake pedal. The
engine can only be started if the brake pedal
is depressed .

If the indicator ligh t turns on and the mesĀ
sage appears, the remote control key was reĀ
moved from the vehicle whi le the engine was
runn ing . If the ignition key is not in the veh iĀ
cle you will not be able to switch on the igniĀ
tion or restart the engine after it has bee n
switched off . You will also not be able to lock
the ve hicle from the outs ide .
Shift to P , othe rwise v ehicle can roll away.
Doors do not lock if le ver is not in P .
This driver message appears for safety rea Ā
sons if the transmission has not been shifted
to the P position when you switc h the ignition
off . Move the selector lever to the P position.

Universal remote
control
General information
Applies to vehicles: with HomelinkĀ® universal remote
control
The Homelink universal remote control can
be programmed with hand-held transmitters
from existing equipment.
Using the Homelink universal remote control
you can operate equipment such as garage doors, property gates and house l ights from
ins ide your vehicle . '
Using the Homelink universal remote control '
you can replace up to three separate hand-
held transmitte rs for equipment on your
property with just one universal remote conĀ
trol. Most of these transmitters a re used to
ope rate ga rage doo rs and property g ates. The
individua l transmitters are programmed at
the front bumper. That is where the control
module is located.
The transmi tters must be p rogrammed first in
orde r to operate systems using the Homelink
universal remote control.
A WARNING
- Never use the Homelink Ā® transmitter
with any garage door opener that does have not the safety stop and reverse feaĀ
ture as requ ired by federa l safety standĀ
ards . T his includes any garage door openĀ
er model manufact ured before April 1,
1982.
- A garage door opener which cannot deĀ
tect an object, signaling the door to stop
and reverse does not meet current federĀ
al safety s tandards . Us ing a ga rage doo r
opener witho ut these fea tures increases
risk of serious injury or death.
- For safety reasons never release the
parking brake or start the engine while
anyone is standing in front of the vehicle .
- A garage door or an estate gate may
sometimes be set in motion when the Homelink
Ā® remote control is being proĀ
grammed. If the device is repeatedly ac Ā
tivated, th is can overstrain motor and
damage its e lectrica l components - an
overhea ted mo tor is a fire hazard !
- To avo id possib le injuries or property
damage, please always make absolutely
certa in that no persons or ob jects are loĀ
cated in the rang e of motion of any
eq uipme nt bei ng ope rated.

Programming a button
T he requ ired distance between the handheld
transmitter and the Homelink modu le in the
bumper depends on the system that you are
programming . When programming a new de Ā
vice, keep the button pressed for at least 15
seconds before trying again with the transm itĀ
ter in a different position .
Each of th e buttons can be reprogrammed inĀ
dividually . The procedure is the same as for in Ā
itial programm ing .Ā¢

Erasing the button programming
Individual buttons can be reprogrammed. Fol Ā
low the same steps used when first programĀ
ming the button .
If you would like to erase all prog rammed butĀ
tons at the same time, select Erase button
programming.

- To ensure your safety, eras ing the proĀ
grammed Homelink buttons before sellĀ
ing the vehicle is recommended.
- Depending on the mode l of the garage
door opener, you may need to release the
button on the remote and press it again
when programming .
