Warm and cold
IQiil REARI Switching the rear window defogger
on and off
The rear window defogger only operates when
the engine is running and will be automatically
switched off after approximately 10 minutes.
Synchronization
If you press the !AUTOI button longer, yo u can
transfer the driver temperat ure setting to the
front passenger. Synchronization is switched off
as soon as the temperature for the front pas­
senger's side is changed.
Air vents
You can open or close the center and rear vents in
the cockpit and the vents in the rear center con­
sole using the ridged thumbwheels. The levers
adjust the direction of the airflow from the vents.
Switching the temperature measurement
units
The temperature display can be switched be­
tween°( and °F. Press and hold down the
j..., .1
button c:> fig. 76 and turn the knob on the dr iver's
side for 3 seconds -.
A WARNING
-You should not use the recirculation mode
for an extended period since no fresh air is
drawn in. With the air-conditioning switch­
ed off, the windows can fog up, which in­
creases the risk of an accident.
- Individuals with reduced sensitivity to pain
or temperature could develop burns when
using the seat heating* function. To reduce
the risk of injury, these indiv iduals should
not use seat heating*.

To avoid damaging the seat heating* ele­
ments, do not kneel on the seats or place
heavy pressure on one area of the seat.

Manually adjustable steering wheel
The steering wheel position is fully adjus table up
and down and forward and back .

There must be a t least 10 inches (25 cm) be­
tween your chest and the center of the stee rin g
wheel. If yo u cannot sit mo re than 10 inches (25
cm) from the steering whee l, see if adaptive
equipment is available to help you reach the ped­
als and increase the distance from the steering
wheel.

- If the steer ing whee l is aligned w ith your
face, the supplementa l driver's a irbag can­
not provide as much protect io n in an acc i­
dent. Always make sure that the steer ing
wheel is aligned with you r chest.
- Always hold the steering wheel w ith your
hands at the 9 o'clock and 3 o' clock posi­
tions to reduce the risk of pe rso nal injur y if
the dr iver's a irbag dep loys .
- Never ho ld the stee ring wheel at the 12
o'cl ock position or wi th you r hands inside
the stee rin g wheel rim or on the s teer ing
wheel h ub. Holding the stee ring w heel the
wrong way can cause serious inj uries to the
hands, arms and head if the driver's airbag
deploys .

Engaging the steering lock
The steering locks when you turn the engine off
using the
I START ENGINE STOP! button a nd
open the driver's door . The locked steering helps
p revent vehicle theft.
Emergency off function
If it is absolutely necessary, the engine can also
be turned off while driving at speeds lower than
6 mph (10 km/h) . To switch the engine off, press
the
I START ENGINE STOPI button twice in a row
briefly o r press and hold for longer than two sec­
onds.
_& WARNING
- Never turn off the engine before the veh icle
has come to a comp lete stop . The full func­
tion of the brake booster and the power
steering is not guaranteed. You must use more force to turn or brake if necessary. Be­
cause you cannot steer and brake as you
usually would, this could lead to crashes

The indicator light turns on and this message ap­
pea rs if the conven ience key* was removed from
the veh icle when the eng ine was runn ing. If t he
conven ience key is no longer in the vehicle, you
cannot switch the ignition on or start the engine
once yo u stop it. Yo u also ca nnot lock the vehicle
from the outside.
Shift to P , vehicle can roll away . Doors can only
be locked in P.

engine is running and a gear is selected.
Otherwise t he vehicle w ill start to move im­
med iate ly and could result in a c rash.
- If the power supply fa ils, the released park­
ing bra ke can no longe r engage. In th is
case, pa rk the veh icle on leve l ground and
sec ure it by placing the selector lever in the
P position. See an author ized Audi dealer or
authorized Aud i Service Faci lity for assis ­
tance .

-If the parking b rake is set while the ignition
i s sw itched off, the. indicator light in the
b utton and -(USA models) /. (Cana­
da models) will turn off after a certain

dren remain in the vehicle. Otherwise chil­
dren could start the engine, release the
parking brake or operate electrical equip­
ment such as power w indows, which in­
creases the risk of an accident.

- No one should remain in the veh icle w hen it
is locked, especially ch ild ren. Locked doors
make it more difficult for emergency work­
ers to get into the veh icle, wh ich puts lives
at risk.
Starting from a stop
The start assist function ensures that the park­
ing broke is released automatically upon start­
ing.
Stopping and setting the parking brake
.. To set the park ing brake, pull on the(®) switch.
Starting and automat ically r elea sing the
parking brake
.. When you press the acce lerator pedal, the
parking brake is automat ica lly re leased and
your vehicle beg ins to move .
When stopping at a traffic signa l or stopping in
c ity traff ic, the parking brake can be applied . The
vehicle does not have to be held with the brake pedal. The park ing brake elim inates the tendency
to c reep when a se lector lever position is engag-
ed. As soon as yo u press t he accelerator pedal,

the parking brake releases automatically and the
vehicle starts to move.
Starting on hills
When start ing on inclines, the hill start ass ist
prevents the vehicle from unintentionally roll ing
back. The braking force of the parking brake is
only released if sufficient drive power has been
bui lt up at the whee ls.
(D Tips
For safety reasons, the parking brake is re­
leased automatically only when the driver's
safety belt is fastened and the driver's door is
locked.
Starting to drive with a trailer
To prevent rolling back unintentionally on an in­
cline, do the following:
.. Keep pulling the<®> switch and press the acce l­
erator pedal. The parking brake stays applied
and prevents the vehicle from ro lling backward.
.. You can re lease the<®> switch once you are sure
that you are transferring enough dr iving force
to the whee ls by pressing the accelerator pedal.
Depending on the weight of the rig (vehicle and
trailer) and the severity of the incline, you may
roll backwards as you start.
Hill hold
A ppl ies to vehicles: with H ill Hol d
Hill hold makes it easier to start on hills .
Requirement: The driver's door must be closed,
the seat belt must be buckled and the engine
must be running.
The system is activated when the brake pedal is
p ressed
for a few seconds.
To prevent the vehicle from roll ing back when
starting, the brake power is held for a brief mo­
ment after releasing the brake pedal. During this
~ time, you can easi ly begin to move you r vehicle .

A WARNING
- The intelligent technology of Hill Hold can­
not overcome the limitat ions imposed by
natural physical laws. The increased comfort
offered by Hill Hold should not cause you to
take safety risks.
- Hill Hold cannot hold the vehicle in all hill
start situations (for example, if the g round
is slippery or icy).
- If you do not beg in moving immediately af­
ter releasing the brake peda l, the vehicle
could begin to roll backward under certain
circumstances . Press the brake pedal or set
the parking brake immediately.
-If the engine "stalls", press the brake pedal
or set the parking bra ke immediate ly.
- To prevent the vehicle from roll ing back un­
intentionally when starting in s top-and-go
traffic, keep the brake pedal pressed for a
few seconds before driving off .
(D Tips
You can find out if your vehicle is eq uipped
wi th Hill Hold by checking at an authorized
Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Facili­
ty.
Emergency braking function
This is used if the conventional brake system
fails or locks up.
.,. To brake your veh icle using the parking brake in
an emergency, pu ll the(®) switch and keep it
pulled.
.. The braking stops as soon as you release the<®>
switch or acce lerate .
If you pu ll the(®) switch and hold it above a
speed of about 5 mph (8 km/h) , the emergency
braking function is activated. The vehicle brakes
at all four whee ls by activating the braking hy­
draulics. The brake performance is similar to
heavy brak ing .

In order not to activate the emergency brake
function by mistake, a warning tone (buzzer)
sounds when the(®) switch is pulled. As soon as .,.

Drive settings
Introduction
Applies to vehicles: with Aud i drive select
Drive select makes it possible to experience dif­
ferent types of vehicle settings in one vehicle.
The driver can select from three modes:
Comfort,
Auto
and Dynamic using the t:i:.~ button in the
center console or by using the Infotainment sys­
tem* to switch between a sporty and a comforta­
ble driving mode, for example.
Description

The following systems, among other things , are
influenced by drive select:
Engine and automatic transmission
Depending on the mode, the engine and auto­
matic transmission respond more quickly or in a
more balanced manner to accelerator pedal
movements . In the sporty dynamic mode, the
transmission shifts at higher RPMs .
Adaptive dampers*
The adaptive dampers use sensors to record in­
formation regarding steering movements, brak­
ing and acceleration operations by the driver,
road surface, driving speed, and load. With drive
select you can adjust the adaptive dampers to
sporty (dynamic), comfortable (comfort) or ba l­
anced (auto).
Steering
The steering adapts in terms of steering assis­
tance . Indirect steering that moves easily as in
comfort mode is especially suited to long dr ives
on a h ighway. In contrast, dynamic mode pro­
vides sporty, direct steering.
Cornering light*
The cornering light adapts to driving on curves.
The pivoting action and the lighting are also
adapted to the mode .

Selecting the Dynamic mode allows for sporty
gear shifting . The S shift setting is automati­
cally engaged.

You can change the driving mode when the vehi-
cle is stationary or while driving. If traffic per-
mits, after changing modes, briefly take your
foot off the accelerator pedal so that the recently
selected mode is also activated for the engine.
Comfort -provides a comfort-oriented vehicle
setup and is suited for long drives on highways.
Auto -provides an overall comfortable yet dy­
namic dr iving feel and is suited for every day use . ..,.

Automatic transmissio n
Automatic transmission
tiptronic
Introduction
The automat ic transmission is controlled e lec­
tron ically . The transmission upshifts or down­
shifts automatically depending on wh ich dr ive
p rogram is selected.
When a
m oderate dri ving style is used, the
transmission se lects the most e conomical d riving
mode. The t ransm iss ion upshifts a t a lower RPM
and downshifts at a higher RPM to imp rove fuel
efficiency.
The transm ission switches to a spo rty mode afte r
a kick-down or when the drive r uses a
sport y
d riving sty le
charac ter ized by quick accelerator
pedal movements, heavy acce leration, frequent
changes in speed and traveling at the maximum
speed.
If desired, the dr iver can a lso select the gears
manually (tiptronic mod e) ¢ page 85.
In the tiptronic t ransmiss ion, power is trans fer­
red by a torque converte r.

The reverse gea r is engaged in th is position . Only

the engine is running at idle speed

To engage the R selector lever
pos ition, press the button on the selector lever,
press the brake peda l and move the selector lever
i nto the R position .
The reverse lights turn on when you select the R

N -Neutral
The transmission is in idle in this position¢&. in
Driving tips on page 84 .
To engage the N selec­
tor lever position, press the button on the selec­
tor lever and s hift into the N pos ition.
To move from selector lever position out of N,
you must press the brake peda l and the vehicle
must be traveling less than 1 mph (2 km/h) or be
stationary.
D IS -Normal position for driving forward
Depending on the se lector lever position, the
transmission can be operated either in the nor ­
mal D mode or in the S sport mode . The instru­
ment cluster disp lay shows the se lected driving
mode.
In the
normal mode D, the transmission auto ­
matically selects the suitable gear ratio. It de ­
pends on engine load, vehicle speed and driving
style.
Se lect the
sport mode S for sporty driving . The
vehicle makes f ull use of the engine's power.
Sh ift ing may become noticeable when accelerat ­
i ng .
To move from selector lever position N to D/S,
you m ust press the brake peda l and the vehicle
must be traveling less than 1 mph (2 km/h) or be
stationary.
