ters/m iles) can be changed in the Infotainment

the vehicle has been driven.
® -The trip odometer shows the distance that
the vehicle has been dr iven since the last time
the trip odometer was reset.
It can be used to
measure short distances. The last digit indicates
1/10 miles o r 100 meter increments .
The trip odometer can be reset to zero by press­
ing the
!O .O ! reset button --~ page 10, fig. 3.
Malfunction indicator
If there is a malfunction in the instrument clus­
ter,
DEF will appear in the trip odometer display .

Resetting the indicator
Your author ized Audi dealer or author ized Audi
Service Faci lity will reset the service interval dis­
p lay after pe rforming service.
If yo u have changed the oil you rsel f, you must re ­
set the oil change interva l.
To reset the display, se lect:

nance schedule so tha t you can fo llow the
maint enance in terva ls.

Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
The M alfunction Indicator Lamp ( MIL) ¢'4 in the

T he wa rn ing/i nd icator lig ht ill uminates w hen the
ignition is sw itch ed on and goes out after th e en­
gine sta rts and the id le h as stab ilized. This indi­
ca tes tha t the M IL is wor kin g p roperly.
If the light does not go out after the eng ine is
sta rted, or illum inates while you are d riving, a
malfu nction may ex ist in the e ngine sys tem. If
t h e lig ht illumin ates, the c ata ly tic converte r
cou ld be d amaged.

Automatic dynamic headlight range control
system
Yo ur vehicle is equ ipped wi th a headligh t range
contro l system so that the head lig hts do not
blind oncoming traff ic if the vehicle load
changes . The head light range also ad justs auto ­
matically when brak ing and accelerating .
Static corne ring light*
T he stat ic co rnering light depe nds on equipmen t
and on ly works when the light switch is in the AU­
T O posit ion . The corner ing light sw itches on a u­
tomat ically at speeds up to approximately
44 mp h (70 km) when the steering wheel is at a
ce rtain ang le . The area to the side of the vehicle
is illum inated better when tur ning .
.,&. WARNING ,~ -- Automatic headlights* are o nly inten ded to
assist the driv er. They do no t reli eve t he
dr iver of resp onsib ility to check the hea d­
light s and to tur n them on m anual ly a ccord­
i n g to the curren t light an d visib ility condi ­
tion s. Fog, for examp le, cannot be detected
by the light se nsors *. So always switch o n
the low beam under these weather condi ­
tions and when driving in the dark ~D.

The emergency flashers makes other motorists
aware that you or your vehicle are in an emergen ­
cy s ituation .

When the em ergency f lashers are on , a ll four
turn signals blink at the same time. The turn sig­
na l indicator lights

You can indicate a lane change or a turn when the emergency flashers are sw itched on by using the
turn sig nal lever . The emergency flashers stop
temporar ily.
The emergency flashers also wo rk when the igni­
tion is turned off.
The emergency flashers wi ll tur n on a utomat ica l­
ly if you are in an accident where th e airbag has
dep loyed.

You s hou ld t urn on the emergency flashers
when :
-you are the last veh icle standing in a traffic
j am so that any other ve hicles coming can
see you, o r when
- your ve hicle has broke n down or you are in
an emergency situation, o r when

Roof rack
Description and mounting locations
Additional cargo can be carried with a roof lug­
gage rack.

.. Always read and follow the inst ruct ions prov id ­
ed by the roof rack man ufacturer when instal­
l ing the roof rack system .
If luggage or cargo is to be carried on the roof,
you must observe the following:
- Only use roof rac ks approved fo r you r vehicle.
T hese app roved roof racks a re the bas is for a
complete roof ra ck system . Additional attach­
ments or carrier systems are needed to trans ­
port luggage and sports equipment . We recom ­
mend using roof racks from the Audi orig inal
accessor ies program .
- When installing the roof rack, make sure it is
only mounted on the designated locations on
the roof¢
fig. 66.
- We recommend that you keep the installat ion
instruct ions for your roof rack system together
with your Owner's literature in the veh icle.
When should th e roof rack b e re mov ed?
- Before going through an au tomatic car wash (it
is best to ask the car wash operator for advice).
- When not in use, to reduce fue l consumption,
wind noise and to guard against theft .
_& WARNING
-Use of an unapproved roof rack or i ncorrect
mounting of an approved roof rack can
cause the roof rack o r the items attached to
it to fall off the roof onto the road .
Seats and storage
-Objects falling from the roof of a vehicle can
cause a crash and personal injury.
- On ly mount the roof rack on the designated
locations on the roof¢
fig. 66.
- The roof rack system must be insta lled ex­
actly accord ing to the instr uctions provided .
- W hen driving with a roof rac k system,
changes to the center of grav ity and w ind
resistance can change the vehicle handling
and lead to a co llision. Always adapt your
driving and your speed to the current cond i­
tions.
(D Note
- Your vehicle warranty does not cover any
damages to the vehicle caused by using roof
racks or mount ing structu res not approved
by Audi for yo ur vehicle . The same app lies to
damage resulting from incorrect roof rack
installat ion.
- Always check the roof rack mountings and
hardwa re before each trip and during a t rip
to ma ke sure eve rything is se cu rely t ight­
ened. If ne cess ary, retighte n the mountings
and check the entire sys tem from time to
t ime.
- After moun ting a roof ra ck system, or when
yo u transport objects on the roof o f you r ve­
hicle, the he ight of the vehicle is natura lly
increased. Be caref ul when driving under
low bridges or in pa rking garages for exam­
ple. This cou ld cause damage to the load
and eve n the vehicle itse lf.
- Make sure that the open rear lid and the sunroof do not come into contact with ob­
jects on the roof.
Loading the roof rack
Always distribute loads evenly. Make sure any­
thing on the roof rack is securely tied down.

The maxim um permissible roof weig ht is
165 lb
(75 kg) . The roof weight is the total of the Ill>

the<®> switch is released, or the accelerator pedal is depressed, emergency braking stops.
A WARNING
Emergency braking should only be used in an
emergency, when the normal brake pedal has
failed or the brake pedal is obstructed. During
emergency braking, your vehicle will brake
similar to heavy braking . ESC and the associ·
ated components (ABS, ASR, EDL) cannot
overcome the laws of physics. In corners and
when road or weather conditions are bad, a
full brake application can cause the vehicle to
skid or the rear end to break away, which in­
creases the risk of an accident.
Speed warning system
Introduction
Applies to vehicles: with speed warning system
The speed warning sy stem helps you to stay un­
der a specified maximum speed.
The speed warning system warns you if you are
exceeding the maximum speed that you have set .
You will hear a warning tone when your speed ex­
ceeds the stored value by approximately 3 mph
(3 km/h) . The indicator light

below the stored maximum speed.
Setting a threshold is recommended if you would
like to be reminded when you reach a certain
maximum speed. Situations where you may want
to do so include driving in a country with a gener­
al speed limit or if there is a specified maximum
speed fo r winter tires.
@ Tips
Regardless of the speed warning system, you
should always monitor your speed using the
speedometer and make sure you are following
the legal speed limit.

You can set any threshold between 20 mph

Cruise control system

The cruise control system makes it possible to
drive at a constant speed starting at 20 mph
(30kmlh).

In certain cases, a vehicle will be classified as
critical for a lane change even if it is still some­
what far away. The faster a vehicle approaches,
the sooner the display in the exterior mirror will
turn on.
@ Vehicles traveling with you
Vehicles traveling with you are indicated in the
exterior mirror if they are classified as critical for
a lane change. All vehicles detected by side assist
Audi side assist
are indicated by the time they enter your "blind
spot", at the latest.
© Vehicles left behind
If you slowly pass a vehicle that side assist has
detected (the difference in speed between the
vehicle and your vehicle is less than 9 mph (15
km/h)), the display in the exterior mirror turns
on as soon as the vehicle enters your blind spot.
The display will not turn on if you quickly pass a
vehicle that side assist has detected (the differ­
ence in speed is greater than 9 mph (15 km/h)).
Functional limitations
The radar sensors are designed to detect the left
and right adjacent lanes when the road lanes are
the normal width. In some situations, the display
in the exterior mirror may turn on even though
there is no vehicle located in the area that is criti­
cal for a lane change. For example:
- If the lanes are narrow or if your are driving on
the edge of your lane. If this is the case, the
system may have detected the vehicle in anoth­
er lane that is
not adjacent to your current lane.
- If you are driving through a curve. Side assist
may react to a vehicle that is one lane over
from the adjacent lane.
- If side assist reacts to other objects (such as
high or displaced guard rails).
- In poor weather conditions. The side assist
functions are limited.
Do not cover the radar sensors
~ fig. 86 with
stickers, deposits, bicycle wheels or other ob­
jects, because this will affect the function. Do not
use side assist when towing a trailer. For infor­
mation on cleaning, refer to ¢
page 168.
A WARNING

-Always pay attention to traffic and to the
area around your vehicle . Side assist cannot
replace a driver's attention. The driver alone is always responsible for lane changes and
similar driving maneuvers .
- Improper reliance on the side assist system can cause collisions and serious personal in-

-Never rely only on side assist when chang­
ing lanes.
- Always check rear view mirrors to make
sure that it is safe to change lanes.
- Side assist cannot detect a ll vehicles under
all conditions- danger of acc ident!
- Please note that side assist indicates there
are approaching vehicles, or vehicles in your blind spot, only after your vehicle has
reached a driving speed of at least 19 mph
(30 km/h).
- In certain situations, the system may not function or its funct ion may be limited. For
example:
- if veh icles are approaching or being left
behind very quickly. The display may not
turn on in time.
- in poor weather conditions such as heavy
rain, snow or heavy mist.
- on very w ide lan es, in tight curves or if
there is a rise in the road su rface. Vehicles
in the adjacent lane may not be detected
because they are outside of the sensor
range.

The sensors can be displaced by impacts or
damage to the bumper, wheel housing and
underbody. This can affect the system. Have
your authorized Audi dealer or authorized
Audi Serv ice Facility check their function.

- If the window glass in the driver 's door or
front passenger's door has been tinted, the
display in the exterior mirror may be misin­
terpreted.

The display brightness adjusts automatically to
the brightness of the surroundings, both in the
i nformation and in the warning stage . In very
dark or very bright surround ings, the display is
al ready set to the minimum or max imum level by
the automatic adjustment. In such cases, you
may notice no change when adjust ing the bright­
ness, or the change may only be noticeable once
the surroundings change.
Adjust the br ightness to a level where the display
i n the information stage will not disrupt your
view forward. If you change the brightness, the
display in the exterior mirror will briefly show the
brightness level in the information stage. The
brightness of the warning stage is linked to the
brightness in the information stage and is adjust­
ed along with the information stage adjustment . .,,.

Coasting downhill w ith the transm ission in N
and the engine not running will result in dam­
age to the automatic transmission and possi­

- If you accidentally select N while driving,
take your foot off the accelerator pedal and
wait for the engine to slow down to idle be­
fore selecting Dor S.
- If there is a power failure, the selector lever
will not move out of the P position. The
emergency release can be used if this hap­
pens

Selector lever lock
The selector lever lock prevents you from select­
ing o gear occidentally, causing the vehicle to
roll.

Automatic transmission
Automatic shift lock (ASL)
The selec tor lever is locked in the P and N posi­
tions when the ignit ion is switched on. The re­
move it from these positions , the driver m ust
press the brake pedal and press the lock button
at the same time. The following message ap­
pears in the instrument cluster display when the
selector lever is in the P or N position to remind
the driver:
Press brake to change gear while stationary.
The automatic shift lock only funct ions when the
vehicle is stat ionary o r at speeds be low 1 mph
(2 km/h). At higher speeds, the lock is automati­
cally deactivated in the N position.
The selector lever is not locked when shifting
quick ly through N, for example from R to D. This
makes it possible to free the vehicle when it is
stuck by "rocking" it. The selector lever lock en ­
gages if the lever stays in the N position longer
than 2 seco nds when the brake pedal is not
pressed.
Lock button
The lock button in the selector lever handle pre­
vents you from moving the selector lever unin­
tentionally while in some selector lever positions.
The positions that require the lock button to be
pressed are marked in color in the illustration
¢fig . 91.
Driving tips
Starting the engine
• The se lector lever must be in the P or the N po­
sit ion.
Starting from a stop
• Press and hold the brake pedal.
• Press the button on the selector lever and se­
lect the D , Sor R selector lever posit ion
¢page 82.
• Wait a moment until the transmission shifts.
You will notice a slight movement when the
gear engages.
• Release the brake pedal and press the accelera-
tor pedal
