@ Vehicles that ar e approaching
In certain cases, a vehicle will be classified as
cr itical for a lane chang e even if it is still some­
what far away . The faster a vehicle approa ches,
the sooner the d isplay i n the exter io r mir ro r will
turn on.
@ Vehicles traveling with you
Vehicles traveling w ith you a re indicated in the
exte rior m irror if they ar e classified as cr itical fo r
a lane change. All vehi cles detected by side assist
Aud i side assist
are indica ted by the time they en ter your "blind
spot ", at the latest.
@ Vehicles left behind
If you s low ly pas s a vehi cle that s ide ass ist has
de tec ted ( the di fference in speed between the ve ­
hicle an d you r vehi cle is less than 9 m ph o r
15 km/ h), the display in the exterio r mirror tu rns
o n as soo n as the vehicle enters your blind spot.
T he disp lay will not t urn on if you quickly pass a
vehicle th at side ass ist has de te cte d (t he differ­
ence in speed between the vehicle and you r vehi ­
cle is greater than 9 mph or 15 km/h).
Functional limitations
The radar senso rs are designed to detec t the left
and right adj ac ent lanes whe n the road lanes are
the norma l width . In cer tain s ituations, the dis­
play in the exterior mirror may turn on even
though there is no vehicle located in the area that
is cr itica l for a lane change . For example:
- if the lanes are narrow or if your are dr iving on
the edge of yo ur lane. If t his is the case, the
system may have detected the vehicle in anoth­
er lane that is
not adjacent to your current lane .
- if you a re dr ivi ng throug h a c urve . Side assist
may react to a vehicle that is one lane over from
the adjacent lane.
- if side assist reacts to othe r objects (such as
high or disp laced guard rails).
- In poor weather conditions . The side assist
fu nctions are limited.

Audi side a ssist
- Improper reliance on the side assist system
can cause collisions and serious personal in­
jury:
- Never rely only on side assist when chang­
ing lanes.
- Always check rear view mirrors to make sure that it is safe to change lanes.
- Side assist cannot detect a ll vehicles under
all conditions -danger of accident!
- Please note that side assist indicates there
are approaching vehicles, o r vehicles in your
blind spot, only after your vehicle has
reached a dr iv ing speed of at least 19 mph
(30 km/h).
- In certa in situations, the system may not
func tion or its funct ion may be lim ited. For
example:
- if vehicles are approaching or be ing left
behind very qu ickly. The display may not
turn on in time .
- in poor weather condit ions such as heavy
ra in, snow or heavy m ist .
- on very wide lanes, in tight curves or if
there is a rise in the road surface . Vehicles
in the adjacent lane may not be detected
because they ar e outside of the sensor
range.

The sensors can be displaced by impacts or damage to the bumpe r, wheel housing and
unde rbody. This ca n affect the system. Have

Adjusting the display brightness

The signal brightness can be set in the radio or
MMI*.

The display br ightness adjusts au tomatically to
the b rightness of the surroundings, both in the
i nforma tion and in the wa rni ng stage. I n ve ry
dark or very b rig ht s urround ings, the display is al­
ready set to the m inimum or maximum level by
the automatic adjustme nt. In such cases, yo u
may notice no change when ad justing the bright­
ness, or the change may on ly be noticeable once
the surroundings change.
Adjust the brightness to a level where the d isp lay
in the information stage will not disrupt yo ur
view forward . If yo u change the brightness, the
display in the exterior mirror will briefly show the brightness level in the information stage. The
brightness of the warning stage is linked to the
brightness in the information stage and is adjust­
ed along with the information stage adjustment .

We recommend that yo u practice par king with
the rearview camera in a traffic-free location o r
parking lot to become familiar with the system,
the orientation lines, and their f unction . When
doing this, there should be good light and weath­
er cond itions.
I n the MMI disp lay, objects or vehicles appear
closer o r further away if:
- yo u are driving in reverse gear from a level su r­
face onto an incl ine, or a downward slope,
- you are driving in reverse gear toward protrud­
ing obje cts,
- the ve hicl e i s ca rrying too much load in the
rear.
The accuracy of the or ientat ion lines and blue
surfac es dimin ishes if:
- the rearv iew camera does not provide a reliab le
image, for examp le, in poor visibility cond itions
or if the lens is d irty,
- the image on the screen is not visible due to
su n g la re and reflect ion .
Caring for the rearview camera lens
The rearview camera is located above the rear li ­
cense plate bracket. For the parking system to
operate, the lens
c::> fig. 144 must be kept clean:
- Dampen the lens with a house ho ld alcoho l-
based glass cleaner, and then wipe the lens
clean with a dry cloth
c::> Q) .
-Remove snow with a hand brush and ice pref­
erably with a de- ic ing spray
c::> Q).

-The parking system ca nnot rep lace the driv­
er's attenti on . T he d rive r alone is responsi­
ble fo r parki ng a nd s imilar dr iv ing ma neu ­
vers.
- Senso rs have b lind spots in which objects
cannot be detected . Pay special atte ntion to

sors cannot always detect them.
- Always keep your eyes on the vehicle 's s ur­
round ings, using the rearview mirror as
wel l.
- Do not allow yourself to be distracted from
traffic by the rearview camera pict ures.
- If the position and t he installation angle of
the camera has changed, for e xamp le, after
a rear end collision, do not continue to use
the system for safety reaso ns. Have it
checked by a qualified dealersh ip.

- Low obstacles a lready s ignaled by a warn ing
can disappear from the system's detection
range as they are approached and w ill n ot
cont in ue to be signaled. Objects such as

ground can appear to be further away than
they really are (for example, the bumper of
a parked veh icle, a trai ler hitch, or the rear
of a truck). In this case, you should not use
the help lines to help with parking, which
poses dange r of an accident!

In the MMI display, the direction of travel of
the veh icle rear is represented depend ing on
the steer ing whee l ang le. The vehicle front
swings o ut more than the vehicle rear. Main­
tain plenty o f distance so that yo ur outside
mirror or a corner of your vehicle does not co l­
li de with any obstacles. This can damage to
your vehicle.

Trailer hitch

For vehicles with a factory installed trailer hitch,
o r a trai ler h itch installed accord ing to factory
spec ifications, the parking sys tem rear sensors
do not come on whenever you shift into reverse
gear or when you press the
P" 1A switch. Remem­
ber, there is no warning for distances to the rear.
The front sensors remain activated . The visua l
display switches to the trailer towing mode. The
picture from the rearv iew camera w ill not show
the or ientat ion lines nor the blue surfaces.
If you insta ll a hitch yourse lf, this function may
not work.
Error messages

There is an error in the system if the LED on the
PwA switch is b linking and you hear a continuous
a larm for a few seconds after switching on the
parking system or when the parking system is al­
ready act ivated. Have your authori zed Audi dealer
correct the error.

If the error is not corrected before you switch
off the ignition, when you switch on the park­ i ng system again, the LED in the
Pw.o. sw itch
will blink.

Please remember -safety first!
This chapter contains important information,
tips, instructions and warnings that you need to
read and observe for your own safety, the safety
of your passengers and others . We have summar­
ized here what you need to know about safety
belts, airbags , chi ld restraints as well as child
safety. Your safety is for us
priority number 1. Al­
ways observe the informat ion and warn ings in
this section - for your own safety as well as that
of your passengers .
The information in this section app lies to all
model ve rsions of your vehicle . Some of the fea ­
tures described in this sections may be standard
equipment on some models, or may be optional
eq uipment on others .
If you are not sure, ask
your authorized Audi dealer.
A WARNING
- Always make sure that you follow the in­
struct ions and heed the WARNINGS in this
Manual. It is in your interest and in the in­
terest of your passengers.
- Always keep the complete Owne r's Litera­
ture in your Aud i when you lend or sell your
vehicle so that this important info rmation

Driving with a trailer
General information
Your Audi was designed primarily for passenger
transportation.
If you plan to tow a trai ler, please remember that
the additional load will affect durability, econo­ my and performance.
Trailer towing not on ly places more stress on the
vehicle, it also calls for more concentration from the driver .
F or this reason, always follow the operating and
driving instructions provided and use common
sense.
Technical requirements
Tr aile r h itch
Use a weight-carrying hitch conforming to the
gross trailer weight. The hitch must be suitable
for your vehicle and trailer and must be mounted
securely on the veh icle's chassis at a technically
sound
location . Use only a trai ler hitch w ith a re­
movable bal l mount . Always check with the tra il­
er h itch man ufacturer to make sure that you are
using the co rrect hitch.
D o not u se a bump er hit ch.
The hitch must be installed in such a way that it
does not interfere with the impact -absorbing
bumper system. No mod ificat ions should be
made to the vehicle exhaust and brake systems .
From time to time, check that all hitch mounting
bolts remain securely fastened .
When you are not towing a trailer, remove the
trailer h itch ball mount. This prevents the hitch
from causing damage should your vehicle be struck from behind ¢ .&, .
Trailer bra kes
If your trailer is equipped with a braking system,
check to be sure that it conforms to all regula­
tions.

The trailer hydraulic brake system must not be di­
rect ly connected to the vehicle's hydraulic brake
system ¢.&, .
Safet y ch ain s
Always use safety chains betwee n your veh icle
and the trai ler .
Tr aile r lights
Trailer lights must meet all regulations. Be sure
to check w ith your author ized Audi dealer for cor­
rect w iring, sw itches, and relays .
Mirro rs
If you are unable to see the traffic behind you us­
ing the regular outside mirrors, then you
must in­
stall extended mirrors .
It is important that you
always have clear vision to the rear.
&, WARNING
-If a trailer has electrical brakes p lease note
that these brakes are not activated by the
factory -fitted contro l unit -risk of accident!
- After removing the t railer hitch, do not store
it in your vehicle . In case of sudden braking,
the hitch could fly forward and injure you or
your passengers.
- Never install a "weight distributing" or "load equalizing" trailer hitch on your vehi­
cle. The vehicle was not designed for these
kinds of tra iler hitches. The hitch attach­
ment can fail, causing the tra iler to tear
loose from the veh icle.
- The Gross Vehicle Weight Rating for your ve­
hicle, found on the safety compliance label
on the driver's side B-p illar, must never be
exceeded under any circumstances . Exceed­
ing the Gross Vehicle We ight Rating of your
veh icle is likely to damage your vehicle, and
such damage will not be covered by your Limited New Vehicle Warranty. Exceeding
the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating will also
change the performance and handling char­
acteristics of your vehicle, wh ich could cause
a crash resulting in serious injury or death .

dents.
- To reduce the risk of cuts, protect yourself
from sharp metal components when wash­
ing the underbody or the inside of the wheel
housings.
- After washing the vehicle, the braking effect
may be delayed due to moisture on the
brake rotors or ice in the w inter. The brakes
must be dried first w ith a few careful brake
applications.
- If you wash the vehicle in an automatic car
wash, you must fold the exterior m irrors in
to reduce the risk of damage to the mirrors.
Power folding exterior mirrors* must only
be fo lded in and out us ing the power folding
funct ion.
- To reduce the risk of damage to the rims
and tires, compare the width between the
whee ls on your vehicle w ith the distance be­
tween the g uide rails in the car wash .
- To red uce the risk of damage, compare the
height and width of yo ur vehicle with the

- T o prevent paint damage, do not wash the
vehicle in direct sunlight.
- To reduce the ris k of damage to the sur face,
do not use insect remov ing sponges, kitchen
sponges o r similar items.
- Matte finish painted veh icle components:
- To reduce the risk of damage to the sur-
face, do not use polishing agents or hard
wax.
- Never use protective wax. It can destroy
the matte finish effect.
- Do not place any stickers or magnetic
signs on vehicle parts painted w ith matte
finish paint. The paint could be damaged
when the stickers or magnets are re­ moved.
@ For the sake of the environment
Only wash the vehicle in facilities spec ially de­
s igned for that purpose. Th is w ill reduce the
r isk of dirty water contaminated w ith oil from
entering the sewe r system.

The windshield may not be treated with wa­
ter-repelling windshield coating agents . Un­
favorab le conditions such as wetness, dark­
ness, or low sun can resu lt in increased glare.
Wiper blade chatter is also possible.

- Headlights/tail lights
- Never clean headlights or tail lights with a
dry cloth or sponge.
- Do not use any cleaning product that con­
tains alcohol, because they could cause
cracks to form.
- Wheels

- Never use any paint polish or other abra­
sive materials.
- Damage to the protective layer on the
rims such as stone chips or scratches must
be repaired immediately.
- Sensors/camera lenses
-Never use warm or hot water to remove
snow or ice from the camera lens. This
could ca use the lens to crack.
- Never use abrasive cleaning materials or
alcohol to clean the camera lens. This
could cause scratches and cracks.
- Door windows
-Remove snow and ice on windows and ex-
terior mirrors with a plastic scraper. To

avoid scratches, move the scraper on ly in
one direction and not back and forth.
- Never remove snow or ice from door win­
dows and mirrors using warm or hot water
because this could cause cracks to form.
- To avoid damage to the rear window de­ fogger, do not apply any stickers on the
heating wires on the inside of the window .
- Decorati ve p art s/ trim
- Never use chrome care or clean ing prod-
ucts .
- Paint
- To reduce the ris k of sc ratches, the veh icle
must be free of d irt and dust befo re po l­
ishing or waxing .
- T o prevent paint damage, do not polish o r
wax the veh icle in direct sun light.
- To reduce the ris k of paint damage, do not
polish away rust spots.
- Remove cosmet ics and sunscreen immedi­
ately -these could damage the paint.

- To avoid scratches, do not use dry cleaning
methods on displays.

- Make sure that no flu ids enter the con-
tro ls, because this cou ld cause damage.

- Do not remove the safety be lts to clean
