0 Alternator malfunction
If the . symbo l in the instr ument pane l display
flashes, then there is a malf unction in the alter
nator or the vehicle electronics . A warning to t he
driver will appear, too . The driver warning goes
out after about 5 seconds, but it can be brought up at any t ime by pressing the
ISE TI button again.
Usually, yo u can sti ll drive to the next dealership.
Turn off a ll but the most necessary electrica l con
sumers, s ince these dra in the veh icle 's battery .

If the . warning symbo l (coo lant system
malfunction) also lights up on the instrument
panel during the trip

"' If the symbol appears while you are driving, it is
poss ible that the trac tion control or the eme r
gency brake has malfunctioned. It is possible
that the parking brake cannot be applied.
It is
also possible that the parking brake cannot be
released after it has been applied. Drive to an
authorized Aud i dealer or other qualified work
shop to have the malfunction corrected.
If the ABS system malfunctions, the ABS warn ing/indicator light illuminates together with the

-Always observe the wa rnings in

- Driv ing with low b rake fluid is a safety haz
ard. Stop the car and get p rofess ional assis
tance.
- If the
111111 (USA models)/ . (Canada mod
els) brake system indi cator lig ht t urns on to
ge ther with the ABS an d ESC i ndica to r
lights, the ABS/ ESC regu lating function may
have failed. Functions that stab ilize the ve
hicle a re no longer avai lab le . This could

cause the vehicle to swerve and increase the
risk of s liding. Drive carefully to the nearest
authorized Audi dealer or other qualif ied
workshop and have the malfunct ion correct
ed.
- L Engine cooling system malfunction
A malfunction in the engine cooling system must
be repaired as soon as possible.

- Never open the hood if you see or hear
steam or coo lant escaping from the eng ine
compartment -you risk being scalded. Wait
until you can no longer see or hear steam or
coo lant escaping.
- The engine compartment of any vehicle is a
dangerous area. Before you perform any
work in the eng ine compartment, turn of
the engine and a llow it to cool. Fo llow the

9=:;r: Engine oil pressure malfunction
The red engine oil pressure warning symbol re
quires immediate service or repair. Driving with a
low oil pressure indication is likely to cause se
vere engine damage .
If the . symbol on the display flashes, the en
g ine oil pressure is too low. A driver message ap
pears as well to explain the malfunction in more
deta il. The dr iver warning goes out after about 5
seconds, but it can be brought up at any time by

If the engine o il level is too low, add engine oi l

Engine oil level correct
If the symbol . flashes even though the engine
oil level is correct, please contact your nearest
authorized Audi Dealer for assistance. Do not
continue driving . Do not leave the engine running
idle, either.
(D Tips
- The engine oil pressure symbol. is not
an indicator for a low engine oil level. Do
not rely on it. Instead, check the oil level in
your engine at regular intervals, preferably each time you refuel, and always before
going on a long trip.
- The yellow oil level warning indication

requires oil refill or workshop service with
out delay. Do not wait until the red oil

ing column lock, the steering cannot be un
locked.

A WARNING
Your vehicle must not be towed in the event
of a malfunction in the electronic steering co l
umn lock because it cannot be steered due to
the locked steering. If it is towed with the
steering locked, there is the risk of an acci
dent.

A malfunction in the ignition lock must be re
paired immediately.
If the . symbo l in the display blinks, there is a
malfunction in the electronic ignition lock. A driv

On vehicles with Convenience key*, the engine
should not be switched off using the Start/Stop
button because the engine cannot be started
again after the ignition has been switched off.

II Is the key in the vehicle ?
This reminder appears along with the II symbol
if the master key is removed from the vehicle
with the eng ine running. It is intended to remind
you (e .g. when changing drivers) not to continue
the journey without the master key .
If the master key is no longer in the vehicle, you
cannot switch off the ignit ion after stopping the
e ngine and you a lso cannot start the engine
aga in . You also cannot lock the veh icle from the
outsid e.

If the symbol illum inates, the light sensor has
failed. For safety reasons the low beams are
tu rned on permanently with the sw itch in
AUTO .
However, you can contin ue to turn the lights on
and off using the light sw itch. In the case of a de
f ect in the rain sensor, the windshie ld wiper lever
functions are still available. Have the light/rain
sensor checked as soon as possib le by an author
i zed Audi dealer.

t ion is tu rned on or while dr iv ing and does not go
out again, the battery's state of charge is no t in
the optimal range. Start ing capability is restrict
ed. Have the battery checked at an authorized
Audi dealer or other qualified workshop as soon as possible.

Opening wi ll be stopped immediately when:
- You press the

- when something blocks the rear lid or makes it
difficult for the lid to move.
By pressi ng one o f the butt on~ repeatedly, you
can stop or continue the opening process . The

ly, you can open/stop the lid~.&. .
Closing will be stoppe d immed iate ly when :
- press the lock button the in the l uggage com
partment lid, or
- push the handle in the luggage compartment

- when something blocks the rear lid or makes it
difficult for the lid to move .
The pressing the lock button or the handle re peatedly, you can open/stop the lid ¢ .&. .
You can manua lly stop the a utomatic opening/
closing of the luggage compartment lid. In this
situation, the lid can be manua lly opened. Press
down on the lid and the automatic closing will re
sume once again .
_& WARNING
-Never close the rea r lid inattentively o r with
ou t checking fi rst. Although the clos ing
for ce of the rear lid is lim ite d, you can s till
serio usly inju re yourse lf or o thers.

The rear doors are equipped with child safety
locks . The lock is only visib le when the door is
open . Take the mechan ica l key out of the master
key

Child safety locks
When the safety button® c> fig. 40 is pressed,
the ~ symbol in the button lights up. The power
window switches in the rear doors are switched
off .
A WARNING
-W hen you leave you r vehicle - even if only
briefly -always remove the ignition key. This
applies pa rticula rly when children remain in
the vehicle. Otherwise t he ch ild ren could
s t art the e ngi ne or operate ele ct rical eq uip
men t (e.g. p ower windows). The power w in
dows are functional unt il the dr iver's door or
passenger's door has been ope ned.
- Pay close attention w he n closing t he win
dows to p revent p inching of hands o r limbs .
- W hen locking the ve hicle from outside, the
vehi cle must be unoccupied since the win
dows can no longer be opened in an emer
gency .
(D Tips
After t he ig nit ion has bee n swi tc h ed off , th e
windows can st ill be o pened or closed for
a bo ut 10 m inutes. The power windows are
not switched off until the driver's door or pas
senger's door has been opened .

AU TO - Automatic headlight control
W ith the swi tch i n the AUTO position, the low
beams are switched o n automatically depend ing
on the ambient light, fo r example in a tunnel, at
dusk and when it is raining or sno win g . When th e
low beams are switched on, the
oe> o: symbol comes
on . The low beams rema in switched on regard
less of the amb ient light when you turn on the
fog lights .
When you turn
off the ignition, the low beams
are automatically switched
off .

t he high-b eam function available . However , if you
have not switched high beams back to low beams
while dr iving with automatic headlight control ,
on ly the low beams come on the next time you
turn o n automatic headlight control. In order to
r etu rn to high beams again, you f irs t h ave to pull
the high beam lever back to the no rma l posit ion
and t hen push the lever forwa rd .
Light sensor malfunction
In the event o f a light sensor malfunction, the
driver is notified in the instrument cluster dis
play:
El Automatic headlights / automatic wipers

For safety reasons, the low beams are turned on
permanently with the switch in
AUTO . However,
you can continue to turn the lights o n and
off us
i ng the light switch. Have the light sensor
checked as soon as possib le at an authorized Audi
dealer or other qualified wo rkshop.
_&, WARNING
- Automatic headlights are only intended to
as sis t the driver. T hey do no t re lieve the
driver of his re sponsibili ty to c heck th e
headligh ts and to turn them o n manually
according to the c urrent light and visibility
conditions . For e xamp le, fog cannot be de
tected by the light sensors. So always switch
on t he headlights
io unde r these weather
conditions and whe n driving in the dark .
- Cras hes can happen when you cannot see
the road ahead and when you cannot be
seen by ot her motorists. Always turn on the
headl ights so that you ca n se e ahead a nd so
that others can se e yo ur car fro m the back.
- Please obey all laws when usi ng the lighting
sys tems described her e.
(D Tips
- The light sensor for headlight control is lo
cated in the rear v iew mirror mount . You
should therefore not app ly any st ickers to
the windsh ield in this area in o rder to pre
vent malfunctions or fail ures.

Fog lights
The s ide marker lights or Low beams must be
switched on. When the fog lights are swi tched
on, the g re e n check light at the edge of the
sw itch comes on.
If automat ic driving light control AUTO is activat
ed, the low beams are switched on whe n the fog
lights a re turned on .
Rear fog light s
Low beams or side marker lights with fog lights
must be turned on.

W hen the rear fog ligh ts are turned on, the yel
low check light at the edge of the s witch comes
