Programming th e button in th e ro of

.. Press and ho ld the previously programmed
button in the roof head liner for 2 seconds .
.. To end rolling code programming, press and
hold the button again for two seconds .
.,. With some systems, the button may need to
be pressed a th ird time to end the program­
ming process.
After programming, the system should detect
the signal and beg in mov ing when the button
in the roof headliner is pressed. Now you may
prog ram the othe r buttons as needed.

- The roll ing code can be programmed
more quickly and more easi ly w ith the
help of a second person.
- If you have d iff iculty programming the

Roof rack
First things first
A roof rack can be fitted to carry additional
luggage on the roof.
.. Always read and follow the instructions pro ­
vided by the roof rack man ufactu rer when
installing the roof rack system .
If you are transporting luggage or other ob­
jects on the roof, p lease note the follow ing :
- Your vehicle has spec ially designed aerody-
namic roof rails. O nly install a roof rack spe­
cifically designed for your model. Contact
the nearest autho rized Aud i deale r fo r infor­
mat ion on approved modu la r r oof racks fo r
your veh icle.
- These approved roof racks are the basis for a
complete roof rac k system. Addi tional at­
t achments for the b asi c r oof r ack are neces­
sary to sa fely transport luggage, bi cy cl es,
surf boa rds, skis or sma ll boats. All necessa­
ry hardware for these systems is available at
your author ized A udi dealer.
- We recommend that you keep t he i nstalla­
tion instructions for your roof rack system
together w ith your Owner's literature in the
veh icle.
When should the roof rack be removed?
- Before going through an automa tic car wash
(it is best to ask the car wash operator for
adv ice) .
- When not in use, to reduce fue l consump ­
tion, wind noise and to guar d against theft .

can cause the roof rack or the items at­
tached to it to fall off the roof onto the
road.
- Objects falling from the roof of a vehicle
can cause a crash and personal injury.
- Only mount the system between the
markings shown in
r:> page 87, fig. 98.
-The roof rack system must be installed
exactly according to the instructions pro­
vided.
(D Note
- Your vehicle warranty does not cover any damages to the vehicle caused by using
roof racks or mounting structures not
approved by Audi for your vehicle. The
same applies to damage resulting from i ncorrect roof rack installation.
- Always check the roof rack mountings
and hardware before each trip and dur­
ing a trip to make sure everything is se­
curely tightened. If necessary, retighten
the mount ings and check the entire sys­
tem from time to time.
- After mounting a roof rack system, or
when you transport objects on the roof
of your veh icle, the height of the vehicle
i s natura lly increased. Be careful when
driving under low bridges or in parking
garages for example. This could cause
damage to the load and even the vehicle
itself.
Roof rack mounting locations
Roof racks must be installed only at the loca­
tions marked on the roof rails.

Loading the roof rack
Always distribute loads evenly. Make sure
anything on the roof rack is securely tied
down.

.,. Always attach items to the roof rack securely
before you drive off.
The maximum permissible roof weight is
220
lb (100 kg).
The roof weight is made up of
the weight of the roof rack system and the
weight of the object being transported.
When using a roof rack system which has a
lower load carrying capacity, you must not use
up the total maximum permissible load carry­
ing capacity specified above. Instead, you
should load the roof rack system only to the maximum capacity specified by the manufac­
turer of the roof rack system .
& WARNING
Weak, damaged or imprope r straps used
to secure items to the roof rack can fail
during hard braking or in a collision and
cause serious personal injury.
- Make sure the roof rack is installed exact­
ly as specified above¢
page 87 .
-Always use suitable mount ing straps for
securing items to the roof rack to help
prevent items from shifting or flying for­
ward.
- Items on the roof rack must a lways be
securely mounted.
- The use of a roof rack can negatively af­
fect the way a veh icle hand les. Cargo
that is large, heavy, bulky, long or flat
will have a greater negative influence on
the vehicle's aerodynamics, center of grav ity and overall handling. Always
drive slowly, avoid sudden braki ng and .,.

maneuvers when transporting cargo on
the roof of your vehicle.
- Never exceed the maximum permissible
load carrying capacity of the roof o f your
vehicle, the perm issib le axle weights and
the permiss ible total weight of your veh i­
cle

Make sure that the opened rear lid does
not come in contact with the cargo on the
roof.
@) For the sake of the environment
As a resu lt of the increased wind resist­
ance created by a roof rack, your vehicle is
using fuel unnecessarily. So remove the
roof rack after using it .
Cupholder
Front cupholders
The cupholders ore located in the center arm­
rest.

A WARNING

hot liquids, such as hot coffee or hot tea, in the vehicle while it is moving

causing scalding burns . Spilled hot liquid

- Use o nly soft cups in the cupholder . Hard
cups and glasses can cause injury in an
accident.

Only drink conta iners with lids should be
carried in the cupholder. Liquid could spill
out and damage you r vehicle's electron ic
equipment or stain the upholstery, etc.

An electrical accessory can be connected to
the 12-vol t power outlet.

The 12-volt outlets can be used for electrical
accessories. The power input must not exceed
120 watts.
There may be just one out let at the front of
the center conso le depending on your model.
There are two additional 12-vo lt outlets in the
rear center console.
Before you purchase any accessories, always
read and fo llow the information in
c::> page 328, Additional accessories and parts
replacement.

The outlet p lus any appliances plugged in­
to it rema in functiona l even if the ignition
is switched off or the ignit ion key is re- moved. Never leave chi

Coat hooks

A WARNING
-Hang clothes in such a way that they do
not impair the driver 's vision .
- T he coat hooks must only be used for
lightwe ight cloth ing. Do not leave any
heavy or sharp edged objects in the pock­
ets which may interfere with the side cur­
tain airbag deployment and can cause
personal injury in a crash.
- Do not use coat hangers for hanging
clothing on the coat hooks as this can in- terfere with proper deployment of the
side curta
in a irbags in an acc ident.
- Do not hang heavy objects on the coat
hooks, as they could cause personal in­
jury in a sudden stop.
Storage in the door panels
There is a storage compartment in the interi­
or door panel .

A WARNING
Use the storage compa rtme nts in the door
panels only for holding sma ll obje cts,
which do not prot rude from the compart­
ment, so that the effective range of the
side a irbags is not comprom ised.

There is a storage net in the passenger's foot­
well.

Reduced visibility is dangerous and can
cause accidents.

-For safe driving it is very important that
all windows be free of ice, snow and con­
densation.
- Completely familiarize yourself with the proper use and function of the heating
and ventilation system and especially
how to defog and defrost the windows.
- Never use the windshield wiper/washer
system in freezing weather until you
have warmed the windshield first, using
the heating and ventilation system. The
washer solution may freeze on the wind­
shield and reduce visibility.
(D Note
- If you suspect that the climate control
system has been damaged, switch the
system off to avoid further damages,
and have it inspected by a qualified deal­
ership.
Controls
Warm and cold 95
-Repairs to the Audi air conditioner re­
quire special technical knowledge and
special tools. Contact an authorized Audi
dealer for assistance.
@ Tips
- Keep the air intake slots (in front of the
windshield) free from ice, snow and de­
bris in order to maintain the proper func­
tion of the climate control system.
- Air inside the vehicle escapes through air
vents located in the side trim panels be­
neath the rear side windows. Make sure
that the outlet slots are not covered by
clothing, etc.
- Climate control works most effectively if
the windows and the Panoramic sliding
sunroof* are closed. However, if the inte­
rior of a parked vehicle is extremely hot
from the sun's rays, briefly opening the
windows can speed up the cooling proc­
ess.
This overview will help you to familiarize yourself with the air conditioning controls.

If the climate control system is ope rating
in cooling mode, a ir flows primari ly from
the outlets in the center conso le and in the
door pillars. To achieve adequate cooling,
you should never close the outlets com­
pletely .
Using climate control economically
Using the climate controls prudently can help
save fuel.
When you use the air cond it ioner , engine pow­
er is reduced and fuel consumption increases.
To save fuel, you should use the air condition ­
er only when necessary . Also please note the
following points :
.,. To save fuel, turn off cooling mode by press­
ing the
I A/Cl button (indicator light goes
out) .
.,. In add it ion, if you open the w indow or the
Panoramic sliding sunroof* wh ile driving,
tu rn off cooling mode by press ing the

.,. If the vehicle is extremely hot due to the
heat of the sun, briefly open doors and win­
dows.

The left display indicates the temperature se­
lected for the rear left passenger, the right
display indicates the temperature selected for
the rear right passenger . If the settings for
seat heating *, air distr ib ution or the air cond i­
tioning fan are changed, the relevant indica­
tor will appear briefly on the display .
Functions are set by rotating the control or
are switched on and off by tapping the but­
tons. The indicator light in the button illumi­
nates when the funct ion is active .

Stowing luggage
Loading the luggage compartment
All luggage and other objects must be prop­
erly stowed and secured in the luggage com­
partment.

Loose items in the luggage compartment can
shift suddenly, changing vehicle handling
characteristics . Loose items can also increase
the r isk of serious personal injury in a sudden
veh icle maneuver or in a collision .

partment.
- Always secure objects in the luggage
compartment us ing the tie-down eye lets
and suitable straps .

A WARNING
Heavy loads will influence the way your ve­
h icle handles. To help reduce the risk of a
loss of control leading to serious personal
injury:
-Always keep in mind when transporting
heavy objects, that a change in the cen­
ter of gravity can also cause changes in
veh icle handling:
- Always distribute the load as evenly as
possible.
- Place heavy objects as far forward in
the luggage compartment as possible.
- Never exceed the Gross Axle Weight Rat­
ing or the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating
specified on the safety compliance stick­
er on the left door jamb. Exceeding per­
miss ible weight standards can cause the
veh icle to slide and handle differently.
- Please observe information on safe driv­
ing

A WARNING
To help prevent poisonous exhaust gas
from being drawn into the vehicle, a lways
keep the rear lid closed while driving.
- Never transpo rt objects larger than
-
those fitting comp letely into the luggage
area because the rear lid cannot be fu lly
closed .
- If you absolutely must dr ive with the rea r
lid open, observe the following notes to
red uce the risk of poisoni ng:
- Close all windows,
- Close the Panoramic s liding sunroof *,
- Open all air outlets in the inst rument
panel,
- Switch off the air rec irculat ion,
- Set the fresh a ir fan to the highest
speed.

Always remember, a chi ld safety seat or infant
carrier installed on the front seat may be
struck and knocked out of position by the rap ­
id ly inflating passenger's airbag in a frontal
coll is ion . The airbag cou ld greatly reduce the
effectiveness of the child restraint and even
seriously injure the child during inflat ion.
F or this reason, and because the back seat is
the safest p lace for children -when properly
restra ined accord ing to their age and si ze - we
strongly recommend that children always sit in the back seat¢
page 203, Child Safety.
A WARNING
A child in a rearward-facing child safety
seat insta lled on the front passenger seat
w ill be seriously injured and can be k illed if
t he fron t airbag inf lates - even with an Ad­
vanced Airbag System .
- The inflating a irbag w ill hit the child
sa fety seat or infant carrier w it h great
f orce and w ill smash the ch ild safety seat
and child against the backrest, center
armrest, door or roof.
- Always install rear -facing child sa fety
seats on the rear seat.
- If you mus t install a rearward facing
child safety seat on the front passenger
seat because of exceptional circ umstan­
ces and the
PASSENGER AIR BAG O FF
light does not come on and stay on, im­
med iately install the rear-facing child
safety seat in a rear seating posit ion and
have the a irbag system inspected by you r
authori zed Aud i dealer.
- Forward-fac ing ch ild safety seats instal­
led on the front passenger's seat may in­
terfere with the deployment of the air­
b ag and cause serious person al injury to
the ch ild .
WARNING
If, in exceptional c ir c umstances, you mus t
install a forwa rd -facing child restra int on
the front passenger's seat:

-Always ma ke sure the forward-facing
seat has been designed and certified by its manufacturer for use on a front seat
wit h a passenger front and s ide a irbag.
- Never put the forward-facing child re­
straint up against or very near the instru­ ment panel.
- Always move the passenger seat into its
rearmost position in t he seat's fore and
aft adj ustment range, as fa r away from
the airbag as possible before installing
the forward-fa cing ch ild restra int. The
backrest mu st be a dju ste d to an upright
posi tion.
- Ma ke sure that the
PASSENGER AIR BAG
OFF
li ght comes on and stays on all the
time wheneve r the ignit ion is swi tched
on.
A WARNING
To reduce the risk of serious injury, make
sure that the
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF
light wi ll be displayed whenever a child re­
straint is installed on the front passenger
seat and the ignition is sw itched on.
- If the
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light
does not stay on, perform the checks de­
scribed ¢
page 193, Monitoring the Ad­
vanced Airbag System .
-Take t he chi ld restraint off the front pas­
senger seat and install it properly at one
of the rear seat positions if the

- Have the airbag system inspected by
your author ized Audi dealer immed iate­
ly.
- Always carefully follow instr uctions from
child r estraint manufa cture rs when in­
s tall ing c hild restra ints.

If, in exce ptiona l circumstan ces, you must
ins tall a forward or rearw ard-facing c hild
restra int on the front passenger's seat:
- Imp roper ins tal lation o f ch ild restraints
can reduce t heir effec tiveness or even
