Examplesofimproperseatingpositions
Theoccupantrestraintsystemcanonlyreduce
theriskofinjuryifvehicleoccupantsareproperly

Improperseatingpositionscancauseseriousin-
juryordeath.Safetybeltscanonlyworkwhen
theyareproperlypositionedonthebody.Im-
properseatingpositionsreducetheeffectiveness
of safety
beltsandwillevenincreasetheriskof
injuryanddeathbymovingthesafetybelttocrit-
icalareasofthebody.Improperseatingpositions
alsoincreasetheriskofseriousinjuryanddeath
whenanairbagdeploysandstrikesanoccupant
whoisnotintheproperseatingposition.Adriver
isresponsibleforthesafetyofallvehicleoccu-
pantsandespeciallyfor children.Therefore:
>Neverallowanyonetoassumeanincorrect
seatingpositionwhenthevehicleisbeingused

Onlyusefloormatsthatleavethepedalareafree
andcan besecuredwithfloormatfasteners.

elisrequiredtobringthevehicletoafullstop.

Pedalsthatcannotmovefreelycancauseloss
ofvehiclecontrolandincreasetheriskofseri-

well.Anobjectcouldgetintothepedalarea

matsusedinyourvehiclemustbeattached
tothesefasteners.Properlysecuringthefloor

thatmaypreventthebucklefromlatching
securely.
—Neverusecomfortclipsordevicesthatcre-
ateslackintheshoulderbelt.However,spe-
cialclipsmayberequiredfortheproper use
ofsomechildrestraintsystems.
—Tornorfrayedsafetybeltscantear,and
damagedbelthardwarecanbreakinanacci-
dent.Inspectbeltsregularly.Ifwebbing,
bindings,buckles,orretractorsaredam-
aged,havebeltsreplacedby anauthorized
Audidealerorqualifiedworkshop.
—Safetybeltsthathavebeenwornandloaded
inanaccidentmustbereplacedwiththe
correctreplacementsafetybeltby anau-
thorizedAudidealer.Replacementmaybe
necessaryevenifdamagecannotbeclearly
seen.Anchoragesthatwereloadedmustal-
sobeinspected.

on.Everytimeyouturnontheignition,theair-

fewseconds(functioncheck).
Thesystemmustbeinspectedwhenthe

—doesnotgooutafewsecondsafteryouhave
switched
ontheignition,or

Ifanairbagsystemmalfunctionisdetected,the
indicatorlightwillcomeontoserveasaconstant
remindertohavethesysteminspectedimmedi-
ately.
If amalfunctionoccurs thatturnsthefrontair-
bagonthepassengersideoff,thePASSENGER
AIRBAGOFF3%;lightwillcomeonandstayon
whenevertheignitionison.

Anairbagsystemthatisnotfunctioningprop-
erlycannotprovidesupplementalprotection
inafrontalcrash.

medintothecontrolunit,thesidecurtainairbag
willnot betriggered,eventhoughthecarmaybe
badlydamagedasaresultofthecollision.Itis
notpossibletodefineanairbagtriggeringrange
thatwillcovereverypossibleangleofimpact,
sincethecircumstanceswillvaryconsiderablybe-
tweenonecollisionandanother.Importantfac-

Itisimportanttorememberthatwhiletheside
curtainairbagsystemisdesignedtohelpreduce
thelikelihoodof seriousinjuries,otherinjuries,
forexample,swelling,bruising,frictionburns
andminorabrasionscanalsobeassociatedwith
theseairbagsupondeployment.Remembertoo,
theseairbagswilldeployonlyonceandonlyin
certainkindsofaccidents-yoursafetybeltsare
alwaystheretoofferprotection.

sidecurtainairbagmustinflatewithintheblink

sidecurtainairbagcouldinjureyouifyour
seatingpositionisnotproperoruprightorif
itemsarelocatedintheareawherethesupple-
mentalsidecurtainairbaginflates.Thisapplies

Althoughtheyarenotasoftpillow,sidecurtain
airbagscan“cushion”theimpactandinthisway
they canhelptoreducetheriskofinjurytothe
headandtheupperpartofthebody.

looseandcauseseriousinjuryifthesidecur-
tainairbaginflates.
—Adeployingairbaginflatesinafractionofa
secondandwithgreatforce.
—Neverattachobjectstothecoverorinthe
deploymentzoneofasidecurtainairbag.
— Theairbagdeploymentzonesmustbekept
clearatalltimes.Makesuretherearenoob-
jects,pets,orotherpersonsinthespacebe-
tweenanyvehicleoccupantand anyairbag
atanytime.
—Donotattachanyaccessoriestothedoors.
ZAWARNING
—Theairbagsystemcandeployonlyonce.If
