—Youcancontroliftheenginewillstopornot
byreducingorincreasingtheamountof
forceyouusetopressthebrakepedal.For
example,ifyouonlylightlypressonthe
brakepedalinstop-and-gotrafficorwhen
turning,theenginewillnotswitchoffwhen
thevehicleisstationary.Ifyoupressthe
brakepedalharder,theenginewillswitch
off.

Thesystemchecksifcertainconditionsaremet
beforeandduringthe"stop"phase,anddeter-
minesiftheenginestopsandhowlongitre-
mainsstopped.Forexample,ifpowerusageis
high,theenginewillnotbestopped.Alongwith
otherconditions,thefollowingfactors influence
theautomaticenginestartorstop:
—Environmentalconditions(slopes,inclines,ele-
vation,temperature)
—Battery(chargestatus,temperature,powerus-
age)
—Enginetemperature
—Assistsystems
—Drivingbehavior
Dependingontheengine,theGyindicatorlight
mayappeariftheengineisnotstopped.

Appliesto:vehicleswith Start/Stopsystem
Ifyouleavethevehicleduringa"stop"phase,the
enginecanberestartedwithinapproximately30
secondsifthedoorsareclosed,thedriver'ssafe-
tybeltisfastened,andthebrakepedalispress-
ed.
Ifyouleavethevehiclelongerthan30seconds,
theignitionwillswitchoffautomaticallytopre-
vent thevehiclebatteryfromdraining.Ifthisis
thecase,themessageStart/stopsystem:igni-
tionwillbeswitchedoffin30swillappearinthe
instrumentclusterand,ifthelowbeamhead-

lightsareswitchedon,theparkinglightswill
switchoninstead.Theparkinglightswillswitch
offafterapproximately30minutesorwhenyou
lockthevehicle.
Theignitionalsoswitchesoffwhenyoulockthe
vehiclefromtheoutsideduringastop phase.
IftheStart/Stopsystemhasnot turnedoffthe
engineorifyouhave switchedtheStart/Stopsys-
temoffmanually, theenginewillcontinuetorun
andtheignitionwillnotswitchoffautomatically.
