sure monitoring system*
can work correctly.
-The use of incorrect tire pressure values can lead to
accidents or other damage.
Therefore it is essential that
the driver observe the speci­
fied tire pressure values for
the tires and the correct pressures for the function of
the tire pressure monitoring
system*.
-Always inflate tires to the
recommended and correct
tire pressure before driving
off.
-Driving with underinflated
tires bend more, letting
them get too hot resulting
in tread separation, sudden
tire failure and loss of con­
trol.
-Excessive speed and/over­ loading can cause heat
build-up, sudden tire failure
and loss of control.
-If the tire pressure is too
low or too high, the tires will wear prematurely and
the vehicle will not handle
well.
-If the tire is not flat and you
do not have to change a
wheel immediately, drive at
reduced speed to the near­
est service station to check
the tire pressure and add air
as required.

Driving without valve stem
caps can cause damage to
the tire valves. To prevent
this, always make sure that
factory installed valve stem
caps on all wheels are secure­ ly mounted on the valve.

Underinflated tires will also
increase the fuel consump­

Tires and vehicle load limits
There are limits to the amount
of load or weight that any vehi­
cle and any tire can carry. Ave­
hicle that is overloaded will not
handle well and is more diffi­
cult to stop. Overloading can not only lead to loss of vehicle
control, but can also damage .,.

A WARNING
Using the wrong snow chains for your vehi­
cle or installing them incorrectly can in­
crease the risk of loss of control leading to
serious personal injury .
- Snow chains are available in different
sizes. Always make sure to follow the in­
struct ions provided by the snow chain
manufacturer .
- When driving with snow chains never
dr ive faster than the speed permitted for
your specific snow cha ins.
- Always observe local regulat ions .
- Remove snow cha ins before driving on
roads not covered with snow to avoid
damaging t ires and wear ing the snow
chains down unnecessar ily .
- Snow chains, wh ic h come into d irect con­
tact with the wheel rim, can scratch or
damage it . Therefore, make sure that the
snow chains are suitab ly covered . Check
the position of the snow chains after
driv ing a few yards and correct if neces­
sary. Follow the i nstr uctions from the
snow chain manufacturer when doing so.

Where s now cha ins a re mandatory oncer­
tain roads, this norma lly also applies to
vehicles with all wheel drive .
Wheel bolts
Wheel bolts must always be tightened to the
corr ect torque.
The design of whee l bolts is ma tched to the
factory insta lled r ims. If d ifferent rims are fit­
ted, the correct wheel bo lts with the r ight
l ength and correctly shaped bolt heads must
be used . This ensures that wheels are fitted
secu re ly and that the b rake system functions
correctly . In certain circumstances, you may not use
whee l bolts from a different vehicle -even if it
is the same mode l¢
page 266 .
A WARNING "--
Improperly t ightened or ma inta ined whee l
bo lts can become loose causing loss of
control, a col lision and serious pe rsonal i n­
jury .
- Always keep the wheel bo lts and the
threads in the wheel hubs clean so the
wheel bo lts can turn easily and be prop­
erly tightened.
- Never g rease or oil the wheel bolts and
the threads in the wheel hubs. They can become loose while driv ing if g reased o r
oiled, even if t igh tened to the specified
torque.
- On ly use wheel bolts that belong to the
rim being installed .
- Never use different wheels bolts on yo ur
veh icle.
- Always maintain the correct t ightening
torque for the wheel bolts to reduce the
risk of a wheel loss. If the tighten ing tor­
que of the whee l bolts is too low, they
can loosen and come out when the vehi­
cle is moving. If the tightening torq ue is
too high, the wheel bolts and threads
can be damaged and the whee l can be­
come loose.
Q) Note
The specified torque for the whee l bolts is
90 ft lbs . (120 Nm) with a tolerance of
± 7,4 ft lbs. (± 10 Nm). Torque wheel bolts
diagonally . After changing a wheel, the
torque must be checked as soon as possi ­
ble with a to rque wrenc h - preferably by an
autho rized Audi dea le r or qualified wor k­
shop .
Low aspect ratio tires
Your Audi is factory -equipped with low aspect
ratio tires. These tires have been thoroughly
tested and been se lected specifically for your
model for their superb performance, road fee l ..,.

The tools ore stored underneath the floor
panel in the luggage comportment.

When you need access to the vehicle too l kit
or jack*, you will need to take out the cover.
The vehicle tool kit includes:
- Tire repair kit (Tire Mobility System)
- Plastic cl ip for removing wheel bo lt caps*
- Alignment p in fo r cha nging the whee l
- Screwdriver with reversible blade
- Tool for chang ing light bulbs
- Reversible bit (reversible Torx bit for chang-
ing light bu lbs)
- Rod for jack
- Jack *
- Lug wrench
- T owing eye
Some of the ve hicle it ems listed above a re
p rov ided on certain models on ly or are opt io n­
a l extras.
Before returning the jack * to its place, retract
the jack arm fully .

- Never use the screw driver hex head to
t igh ten whee l bolts, s in ce the bolts can­
not at tain t he necess ary tightening tor­
que i f yo u use the hex head, potentially
causing an accident .
- T he factory -supplied ja ck is intended on ­
ly for your vehicle model. Under no cir ­
c u mstances should it be used to
lift
heavy vehicles or othe r loads; yo u risk in­
juring yo urself .
- Never start the engine when the vehicle
is raised, wh ich could cause an acc ident.
- Support the vehicle securely wit h app ro­
priate stands if work is to be performed
unde rneath the vehicle; otherwise, there
is a potentia l risk for injury.
Tire repair
General and safety pointers
Tire repair is intended only for temporary,
short-term use.

Your vehicle is equipped with a tire repa ir k it,
the
Tire Mobility System (TMS ).
In the event of a tire failure, the TMS is in the
luggage compartme nt under the floor. It con­
s ists of the tire sealant and an e lectric air
pump .
U sing
T MS , tire damage caused by foreign
bodies up to abo ut
0.16 inch (4 mm ) in diam­
eter can be sea led reliably.
T he foreign object must stay in the tire .
The t ire sealant must not be used:
- for cu ts or pun ctures in t he tire wh ich a re
larger than 0 .16 inch (4 mm)

on fi rm ground . Use a flat, stab le support if

- Position the vehicle jack on ly at the
designated lifting po ints and align the

- A soft or unstable su rface unde r the
j a ck may cau se the ve hicle to slip off
the j ack. A lw ays p rov ide a firm b ase for

If necessary,

- On hard, sl ippery surface (s uch as t iles)
u se a ru bber mat o r similar to prevent
the jack from slipping .
- T o help p revent injury to yo urself and
your passengers:
- Do not ra ise the vehicle until you are
su re the jack is securely engaged.
- Passengers must not remain in the ve­
hicle when it is jacked up.
- Make sure that passengers wait in a
safe place away from the veh icle and
well away from the road and traffic.
- Make sure jack position is correct, ad­
j u st as necessary a nd then cont inue to
r aise t he jack .

Tires with unidirectional tread design
Tires with unidirectional tread design must be
mounted with their tread pattern pointed in the right direction.

When us ing a replacement t ire with a tread
pattern intended for use in a specific direc­
tion, please note the fo llowing:
- T he direction of rotation is marked by an
ar ­
row on th e side of the tire.
- If the replacement tire has to be installed in
t h e incorrect d irection, use the tire only
temporarily since the tire will no t be able to
achieve its optimum performance character­
istics with regard to aquaplaning, noise and
wear .
- We recommend that you pay particular at­
tention to this fact during wet weather and
that you adjust your speed to match road conditions.
- Replace the flat tire with a new one and
have it installed on your veh icle as soon as
poss ible to restore the handling advantages
of a unid irect ional tire.
Notes on wheel changing
P lease read the information ¢ page 230, New
tires and replacing tires and wheels
i f you are
go ing to use a replacement tire w hich is dif­
fe rent from the tires on your vehicle.
After you change a ti re:
- Chec k the ti re p ress ure on the rep lacement
t ire immed ia tel y aft er in stall ation.
- Ha ve the wheel bolt tightening torque
checked w ith a to rqu e wrench as soon as
possible by your autho riz ed Aud i dealer o r
qualifi ed wor kshop .
- With steel and allo y wheel rims , the wheel
bol ts are correctl y tightened at a to rque of
9 0 ft lb s. (120 Nm ).
- If y ou no tice th at the whee l bolts are cor­
roded and d ifficult to tu rn whil e cha nging

with tires or rims which differ from those

are properly secured in the luggage com­
partment and are not loose in the pas­
senger compartment.
- In an accident or sudden maneuver they
co uld fly forwa rd, injuring anyone in the
veh icle.

men t. Othe rwise, in an accident or s ud ­

- W hen connecting jumper ca bles, make
sure that they cannot get caught in any
moving parts in the eng ine compart­
ment.
- Do not bend over the batteries - danger
of chemical burns!
- The battery ce ll locking screws must be
t ightened securely .
- Before you check anything in the engine
compartment, always read and heed all

Improper hook-up of jumper cables can ru­
in the generator.
- Always connect POSITIVE( +) to POSI ­
TIVE(+), and NEGATIVE( -) to NEGATIVE
( - ) ground post of the battery manager
control unit.
- Check that all screw plugs on the battery
ce lls are screwed in firmly . If not, tighten
plugs p rior to connecting clamp on nega­
tive battery terminal.
- Please note that the procedure for con­
necting a jumper cable as described
above applies spec ifically to the case of
your vehicle be ing jump started. When
you are givi ng a jump start to another ve­
hicle, do
not connect the negat ive( -) ca­
ble to the negat ive( -) term inal on the

Your Audi requires special handling for tow­
ing.
T he following information is to be used by
commercial tow t ruck operators who know
how to operate their equipment safely.
- Never tow your Audi , towing will cause
damage to the engine a nd transmi ssion.
- Never wrap th e safet y chain s or winch c a­
ble s around th e brak e lin es.
- To prevent unne ce ss ary dam age, your Aud i
mu st be t ransp orted with a flat bed truck .
- To load th e vehi cle on to the fl at bed , use
the t owing loop found in the vehicle t ool s
and atta ch to the front or rear anch o rage
r=:> page 258 and ¢page 258 .
A WARNING
A vehicle being towed is not safe for pas­
sengers. Never allow anyone to ride in a
vehicle be ing towed, for any reason.

Performing limit ed m aintenance you rself

touch the rad iator fan. It is temperature
contro lled and can switch on suddenly -
even when the engine is
off and the igni­
tion key has been removed. The rad iator
fan switches on automat ica lly when the
coo lant reaches a certai n temperat ure
a nd will cont inue to run until the coo lan t
tempera ture drops .
- Always remove the ign itio n key befo re
anyone gets under the vehicle.
- Always support your veh icle with safety
s tands i f it is necessary to work under­
neath the vehicle. The jack s upplied with
the vehicle is not adequate for this pur ­
pose and cou ld collapse causing serio us
personal injury.
- If you must work underneath the vehicle
with the wheels on the g round, a lways
make sure the vehicle is on leve l ground,
that the wheels are a lways securely
blocked a nd that the engine cannot be
started.
