"' Pull the switch briefly to the se con d sto p to au­
tomatically close the window.
A WARNING
- When you leave your vehicle -even if only
briefly -always remove the ignition key. This
applies part icularly when children remain in
the vehicle. Otherwise the children could start the engine or operate electr ical equip­
ment (e.g. power w indows). The power win­
dows are functional until the driver's door o r
passenger's door has been opened.
- Pay close atten tion when closing the w in­
dows to prevent pinch ing of hands or limbs.
- When locking the vehicle from outs ide, the
vehicle must be unoccupied since the win­ dows can no longer be opened in an emer­
gency.
(I) Tips
- When you open the doo rs, the windows au­
tomatically lower about 10 mm.
- After the ignition has been switched off, the
windows can st ill be opened or closed for
about 10 m inutes. The window regulators
are not switched until the dr iver's or pas­
senger's door is opened .
Convenience opening/closing
The windows and the panoramic tilting sunroof
can be opened and closed with the mechanical
key or the emergency key.

When the panoramic tilting sunroof is tilted/
closed, the electric sun shade* is also opened/

A WARNING
- Never close the windows and the panoram ic
tilting sunroof inattentively and without
checking -there is risk of injury .
- You must always watch when the w indows
are be ing raised so that no one can be trap ­
ped. If you release the key, the closing ac­
tion is immed iate ly canceled .

Correcting window regulator malfunction
After disconnecting the vehicle battery , the one­
touch up and down feature must be activated
agatn.

The programmed buttons cannot be erased indi­
vidually . They must all be erased together . Repro­
gram the buttons if necessary .

tor with the system. Refer to the manufac­

Programming the button: Part 1 with the
controls
1. Switch the ign ition on.
2. Press and ho ld both outer buttons in the roof
headliner

turns off completely (after about 20 sec­ onds). This procedure clears the standard co­
des that were set at the factory and does
not
need to be repeated again to program the
other buttons .
3. Briefly press the button on the roof headliner
that you would like to program.
4. Wait until the LED @ begins to blink quickly.
Programming mode is active for 5 minutes .
5. Move in front of yo ur vehicle whi le holding
the original remote control for the system
that would like to program to a button in the roof headliner.

6. Hold the remote control up to the radiator
grille on your vehicle¢

7. Press and ho ld the remote control until the
turn signals on your veh icle blink . This may
take up to 30 seconds .

If the emergency flashers blink three times,
the programming was successful. If the
emergency flashers only blink one t ime, the
5 minute time limit for the programming has
ended or the programming was not success­
ful. Repeat the prog ramming from the third
step, or try changing the distance to the radi- ator grille . .,..

headlights, tur n sig nals and tail lights can
fog over due to the temperat ure difference
between the inside and outside. They w ill
clear s hortly after switching them on. T his
does not affect t he se rvice life of the light­
i ng .

Auto headlights*
When the light switch is in the AUTO¢ page 43
position, the switch-on point of the lights can be
changed in the automatic driving light function.
Daytime running lights
USA models: You can switch the daytime running
lights
on and off.
Canada models: The function cannot be turned
off. It is activated automatically each time the ig­ nition is switched on.
Travel mode*
The headlight beam is asymmetrical. This pro­
vides stronger illum ination on the s ide of the
road on which you are driving. If you are driving
in a country that drives on the opposite side of
the road from your own country, this will cause
glare for oncoming drivers. To prevent glare:
- Travel mode must be selected in vehicles with
Xenon headlights*.
- In vehicles with halogen headlights, certain
areas of the headlight lenses must be covered
with waterproof adhesive covers that prevent light from passing through . For more informa ­
tion, please see your authorized Audi dealer or authorized repair facility.
(0 Tips
When travel mode is activated, a display in
the driver information system indicates this
each time you switch the ignition on.

Emergency flashers

The emergency flashers makes other motorists
aware that you or your vehicle are in an emergen­
cy situation .

When the emergency flashers are on, all four
turn signals blink at the same time. The turn sig­
nal indicator lights

ter, as well as the light in the emergency flasher

You can indicate a lane change or a turn when the emergency flashers are switched on by using the
turn signal lever. The emergency flashers stop
temporarily.
The emergency flashers also work when the igni­
t ion is turned off.
The emergency flashers will turn on automatical­
ly if you are in an accident where the airbag has
deployed .
(D Tips
You should turn on the emergency flashers
when:
- you are the last vehicle standing in a traffic
jam so that any other vehicles coming can see you, or when
- your vehicle has broken down or you are in
an emergency situation, or when
- your vehicle is being towed by a tow truck or
if you are towing another vehicle behind
you.

The instrument illum inat ion (for dials and
needles) lights o n when the ignition is switch­
ed on and the vehicle lights are turned off. As
the daylight fades , the illum inat ion of the di­

out comple tely w hen t he ou tside light is very
l ow. This fe ature is me ant to remind yo u to
switc h on the headlights when ou tside light
cond itions become poor.

To help you see the cu rb when backing into a
parking space, the surface of the mi rror tilts
slightly. For this to happen, the knob must be in
the position for the front passenger 's outside
mirror .
You can adj ust the ti lted mirror surface by turn ­
ing the knob in the desired direction . When you
move out of reverse and into another gear, the
new mirror position is stored and assigned to the
key you are using.
The mirror goes back into its origina l position
once you drive forward faster than 9 mph
(15 km/h) or turn the ignition
off.
A WARNING
Curved mirror surfaces (convex or spherical*)
increase your field of view. Remember that
vehicles or other objects will appear smaller
and farther away than when seen in a flat mir­
ror .
If you use this mirro r to estimate distan­
ces of following veh icles when changing
lanes, you cou ld es timate incorrectly and
cause an accident .
(D Note
-If the mirror hous ing was moved by force
(fo r example, by running into an object
when maneuvering the vehicle), the m irror
must be folded all the way in using the pow­
er folding function. The mirror housing
must not be moved back into place by hand
because this would impair the function of
the mirror mechanism.
- If you wash the vehicle in an automatic car
wash, you must fold the exterior mirrors in
Li ghts a nd Visio n
to reduce the risk of damage to the mirrors.
Never fold power fo lding exterior mirrors*
by hand . On ly fold them in and out us ing
the power controls.
@ Tips
- If the power adjusting function malfunc­
tions, the glass in both mirrors can be ad­
justed by pressing on the edge of it by hand.
- The exterior mirror settings are stored with
the memory function*¢

A WARNING
Electrolyte fluid can leak from automatic dim ­
ming mirrors if the g lass is broken. Electrolyte
flu id can irritate skin, eyes and respiratory
system.
- Repeated or prolonged exposure to e lectro­
lyte can cause irritat ion to the respiratory
system, especially among people with asth­
ma or other resp iratory conditions. Get
fresh a ir immediately by leaving the vehicle
or, if t hat is not possible, open windows and
doors all the way.

so the shade retracts automatically when you se­lect the reverse gear. To do this, select the

WARNING
When lowering or raising the sunshade, make
sure there is nothing in its way and that it has
a free path to travel. This could cause person­
al injury.
@ Tips
- Pressing the button rn several times con­
secutive ly can trigger the overload protec·
tion. The sun shade can only be extended/
retracted again after a brief waiting period.
- The rear window sun shade only funct ions
when the vehicle interior is warmer than
14°F (-10°C).

vehicles with a ra in sensor* the wipers turn on in
the rain once the vehicle speed exceeds approxi ­
mately 2 mph (4 km/h). The higher the sensitivi ­
ty of the rain sensor* is set (switch @to the
right), the earlier the windshield wipers react to
moisture on the windshield . In some models, you
can switch ra in sensor mode off and switch inter­
mittent mode on in the MMI* . Select : !CAR I func­
tion button

In intermittent mode ,
you can adjust the interval time using the@

@-Single wipe
® -Clean the w indshie ld. To eliminate water
droplets, the windshield wiper performs one af­
terwipe operation after several seconds whi le
driv ing. You can switch this function off by mov­
ing the lever to position ® within
10 seconds of
the afterwipe operation. The afterwipe function is reactivated the next time the ignition is switch­
ed on .
Cleaning the headlights*. The headlight washer
system* operates only when the headlights are
on . If you move the lever to position @, the
headlights are washed in intervals.
A WARNING
--The rain sensor is only intended to assist the
driver. The driver is still respons ible for
manually switch ing the wipers on according
to the visibility conditions.
- The windshield may not be treated with wa­
ter-repelling windshield coating agents. Un­
favorable conditions, such as wetness, dark­
ness, low sun, can result in increased glare.
Wiper blade chatter is also possib le .
- Properly functioning windshield wiper
blades are required for a clear view and safe
driving

- In the case of frost, check whether the
windshield wiper blades are frozen to the

- Prior to using a car wash, the windshield
wiper system m ust be switched
off (lever in
position @). This helps to prevent uninten­
tiona l switching on and damage to the
windsh ield wiper system.
@ Tips
- The windshield wipers are switched off
when the ignition is turned off . Activate the
windsh ield wipers after the ignition is
switched back on by moving the windsh ield
wiper lever to any pos it ion.
- Worn or dirty windshield w iper blades result
i n streaking. This can affect the rain sensor*
funct ion. Check your windshield wiper
blades regularly.
- The washer fluid nozzles of the windshield washer system are heated at low tempera­
tures when the ignit ion is on.
- When stopp ing temporarily, (e.g . at a traffic
li ght) the set speed of the windsh ield wipers
i s automatically reduced by one speed.

Always move the front passenger seat into the rearmost position.
To avo id contact w it h the airbag wh ile i t is de­
p loying, do not sit any closer to the inst rument
panel than necessary and always wear the three ­
point safety belt provided adjusted correctly. We
recommend that you adjust the passenger's seat in the following manner:
.,. Bring the backrest up to an (a lmost) upright
position .
Do not ride with the seat reclined .
.,. Applies to vehicles with adjustable head re­
straints: Adjust the head restra int so the upper
edge is as even as poss ible with the top of your
head. If that is not possib le, try to adjust the
head restraint so that it is as close to this posi­

-Never ad just the driver's or front passeng­
er's seat while the vehicle is moving. If you
do this while the veh icle is moving, yo u will
be out of posit ion. Always adjust the driver 's
or front passenger's seat when the vehicle is
not moving .
- Be careful when adjusting the seat height. Check to see that no one is in the way, or se­
r ious injury cou ld result!
- Because the seats can be electrically adjust­ ed w ith the ignition off or with the ignition
key removed, never leave children unattend­
ed in the vehicle. Unsuperv ise d use of the
electric seat adj ustments may cause serious
m Ju ry.
- To reduce the risk of injury in the case of
sudden b raking or accident, fro nt passen­
ge rs must neve r ride in a moving veh icle
w ith the backres t reclined. Safety belts and
the air bag system on ly offer ma ximum pro ­
tect ion when the bac krest is upright and the
safety belts are properly positioned on t he
body. The more the backrest is recl ined, the
greater the risk of persona l injury from an
incorrect seating posit ion and improperly
positioned safety belts.

The memo ry buttons are located in the driver's
door .
Switching the memory function on/off
• Press the !ON/O FF I button to switch the memo­
ry function on/off. The word
OFF lights up when
the memo ry function is switched off . Seat pro­
files are neither stored nor recalled.
Storing a seat profile
• Press the !SE T! button. When the word SET
lights up, the memory is ready to store set­
tings.
• Press a memory button
([I I or ~) briefly . A tone
confirms that the sett ings were stored.
Accessing a seat profile
• If the driver's door is open and the ig nit ion is
switch ed off, press the memory button.
• If the driver's door is closed or the ignition is
switched on, press and hold the memory but­
ton until the seat adjustment is comp lete .
.&_ WARNING
- For safety reasons, the seat sett ing can only
be recalled when the vehicle is stat ionary -
otherwise you risk having an accident .
- In an emergency the recall procedure can be
cancelled by pressing the
!ON/OFF I switch or
by tapping the memory buttons.

lutely necessary .
