Auto headlights*
When the light switch is in the AUTO¢ page 43
position, the switch-on point of the lights can be
changed in the automatic driving light function.
Daytime running lights
USA models: You can switch the daytime running
lights
on and off.
Canada models: The function cannot be turned
off. It is activated automatically each time the ig­ nition is switched on.
Travel mode*
The headlight beam is asymmetrical. This pro­
vides stronger illum ination on the s ide of the
road on which you are driving. If you are driving
in a country that drives on the opposite side of
the road from your own country, this will cause
glare for oncoming drivers. To prevent glare:
- Travel mode must be selected in vehicles with
Xenon headlights*.
- In vehicles with halogen headlights, certain
areas of the headlight lenses must be covered
with waterproof adhesive covers that prevent light from passing through . For more informa ­
tion, please see your authorized Audi dealer or authorized repair facility.
(0 Tips
When travel mode is activated, a display in
the driver information system indicates this
each time you switch the ignition on.
Lights and Vision
Emergency flashers

The emergency flashers makes other motorists
aware that you or your vehicle are in an emergen­
cy situation .

When the emergency flashers are on, all four
turn signals blink at the same time. The turn sig­
nal indicator lights
R 1B in the instr ument clus­
ter, as well as the light in the emergency flasher

You can indicate a lane change or a turn when the emergency flashers are switched on by using the
turn signal lever. The emergency flashers stop
temporarily.
The emergency flashers also work when the igni­
t ion is turned off.
The emergency flashers will turn on automatical­
ly if you are in an accident where the airbag has
deployed .

You should turn on the emergency flashers
when:
- you are the last vehicle standing in a traffic
jam so that any other vehicles coming can see you, or when
- your vehicle has broken down or you are in
an emergency situation, or when
- your vehicle is being towed by a tow truck or
if you are towing another vehicle behind
you.

- Vehicles with a pass through in the center console have seat ing for four. The long cen­
ter console between the two rear seats is
not a seat ing pos ition. Therefo re, a safety
belt is not provided.

of safety features.
Memory function
Description
Appl ies to vehicles: wi th memo ry fu nct io n
The memory f unct ion allows you to quickly and
easily store and recall personal seating profiles
for the driver . The memory function is operated
t h rough the master key and the memo ry buttons
in the driver 's door.
T he driver's seating p rofile is stored and assigned
to the master key each time the vehicle is locked.
When you open the door, the seat profile is auto­ matically reca lled. If two people use one vehicle,
it is recommended that each person always uses
"their own" ma ster key.
Up to 2 seat profi les can be stored in the memory
buttons in the driver's door. Once they are stored,
these seat profiles can be selected at any time.
In addition to the driver's seat settings, you can
also store and access the exterior mirror adjust­
ment settings* using the remote contro l key or
memory bu tton.

Switching the memory function on/off
• Press the !ON/O FF I button to switch the memo­
ry function on/off. The word
OFF lights up when
the memo ry function is switched off . Seat pro­
files are neither stored nor recalled.
Storing a seat profile
• Press the !SE T! button. When the word SET
lights up, the memory is ready to store set­
tings.
• Press a memory button
([I I or ~) briefly . A tone
confirms that the sett ings were stored.
Accessing a seat profile
• If the driver's door is open and the ig nit ion is
switch ed off, press the memory button.
• If the driver's door is closed or the ignition is
switched on, press and hold the memory but­
ton until the seat adjustment is comp lete .
.&_ WARNING
- For safety reasons, the seat sett ing can only
be recalled when the vehicle is stat ionary -
otherwise you risk having an accident .
- In an emergency the recall procedure can be
cancelled by pressing the
!ON/OFF I switch or
by tapping the memory buttons.

If the vehicle's power supply fails, the selector lever can be released in an emergency.

- Do not a llow yourse lf to be distracted from
traffic by the rear view camera pictures.
- If the position and the installation ang le of
the camera has changed, for example, after
a rear end collision, do not continue to use
the system for safety reasons. Have it
checked by a qualified dealership.

- Low obstacles already signaled by a warning
can d isappear from the system's detection
range as they are approached and will not
continue to be signaled. Objects such as barrier chains, tra ile r draw bars, thin paint­

straint system including a irbag modules safe­
ty belts with pretensioners are scrapped, all
app licab le laws and regu lations must be ob­
served. Your authori zed A udi dealer is fami lia r
w ith these requirements and we recommend
that you have yo ur dealer perform this service
for you.
Other things that can affect Advanced
Airbag performance
Changing the vehicle 's suspension system can
change the way that the Advanced A irbag System
pe rforms in a crash. For example, using t ire-rim
comb inat ions not approved by Audi, lowering the
ve hicl e, chang ing the stiffness of the suspension,
including the spr ings, suspension s truts, shock
absorbers etc . can change the forces that are
measured by the airbag sensors and sent to the
electronic control un it. Some suspension changes
can, for example, increase the force levels meas­
ured by the sensors and make the airbag system
deploy in c rashes in which it wo uld not deploy if
the changes had not been made. Other ki nds of
changes may reduce the force levels measured by
the sensors and preve nt the airbag from deploy­
i n g when i t should .
A WARNING
Changing the vehicle's s uspension including
use of unapproved ti re -rim comb inations can
change Advanced A irbag pe rformance and in ­
crease t he risk of serious persona l injury in a
crash.
- Never install suspension components that do not have the same performance charac­
teristics as the components or iginally insta l­
led on your veh icle.
- Never use tire-rim combinations that have
not been approved by Audi.

Knee airbags
Description of knee airbags
Applies to vehicles: with knee airbags
The knee airbag system can provide supplemen­
tal protection to properly restrained front seat
occupants.

The knee air bag offers addi tional protec tion to
t h e d river 's and passenge r's knees and uppe r and
l ower thigh areas and supplements the protec ­
tion provided by the safety belts.

Smart Technology
In extreme cases, EDL automatically switches off
to help keep the brake on the braked wheel from
overheating. EDL will switch on again automati­
cally when conditions have returned to normal.
Steering recommendation
The ESC helps to stabilize the vehicle by changing
the steering torque.
I n vehicles with dynamic steering*, ESC also
he lps to stabilize the steering in critical situa­
tions .
Selective wheel torque control
Select ive wheel torque control is used when driv­
ing on c urves . The front wheel on the inside of
the curve or both whee ls on the inside of the
curve are braked selectively as needed. This al­
lows more precise driving in curves . Th e applica­
b le system may not activate when driving in wet
or snowy conditions .
A WARNING
- The ESC and its integrated systems cannot
overcome the laws of physics. This is espe­
c ially important on slippery or wet roads. If
the systems beg in acting to stabilize your
vehicle, you should immediately change
your speed to match the road and traffic

conditions . Do not let the increased safety
provided by these systems tempt you to
take risks. Doing so will increase the risk of a
loss of vehicle control, collision and serious
personal injuries.
- Always adapt your speed to road, traffic and
weather conditions. The risk of losing con­
trol of the vehicle increases when dr iving
too fast, especially through curves and on
slippery or wet roads, and when driv ing too
close to vehicles up ahead. The ESC and its
integ rated systems cannot always prevent
collisio ns -there is sti ll a risk of accidents!
- Always accelerate with special care on even,
smooth surfaces such as those that are wet
or covered with ice and snow. The drive
wheels can spin even with these assistance
systems that cannot always help to reduce
the risk of loss of vehicle control.
@ Tips
-ABS and ASR only work correctly when all
four wheels are equ ipped w ith identical
t ires. Different tire s izes can lead to a reduc­
t ion in engine power.
- You may hear noises when the systems de­ scribed are working.
ESC turns on automatically when you start the engine .

A WARNING -
You should only switch sport mode on or
sw itch ESC/ASR off if your driving ab ilities and
road conditions permit.
- The stabilization function is limited when
sport mode is switched on. The dr iving
wheels could spin and the vehicle could
swerve, especially on slick or slippery road
surfaces.
- There is no vehicle stabilization when ESC/
ASR are sw itched off.

- ESC/ASR cannot be switched off or sport
mode cannot be sw itched on when cr uise
control or adaptive cruise control* is switch­
ed on.
- Malfunctions in the rear spoiler may make it
i mpossible to switch the ESC/ASR off or to
switch sport mode on.
Rear spoiler
Applies to vehicles: with retractable rear spoiler
The rear spoiler improves vehicle handling and
enhances driver control.

The rear spo iler deploys and retracts. Spoiler op­
eration can be set for automat ic or manual oper­
ation.
Automatic mode (normal operation)
-Extends automatically: when the vehicle speed
exceeds approx imately 75 mph (120 km/h).
- Retracts automatically: when the vehicle speed
drops below approx imately 50 mph (80 km/h).
Manual mode
- Manual deployment: Tapping briefly on the
switch ~ fig. 154 deploys the rear spoiler.
