• If you open the driver's door with the key left in the ignition lock,
a chime will sound. This is your reminder to remove the key and lock
the door.
• For security reasons, replacement keys are only available from
authorized Audi dealers. •
Master key with remote control
The remote control allows you to Jock or unlock the
vehicle electronically.

- To fold the key out and back in place, press the release
button

The transmitter and battery are located in the head of the remote
control. The receiver is located inside the vehicle. The maximum
effective range depends on several things. Remember, if the battery
is weak, the effective range decreases.
If you need to replace the remote control, or if you need to have it
repaired, you must see your authorized Audi dealer. Only then can
you use the key again.

• If the ignition is switched on, the remote control system is deacÂ
tivated.
• The remote control system can be affected by other systems
operating in the same frequency range close to the vehicle, such as
mobile telephones, television broadcasting stations, etc.

Check light in remote master key
The check light in the remote master key indicates the
state of charge of the battery.

When a button is pressed, the check light flashes=> fig. 24 (arrow).
If the check light does not come on or flash, the battery is dead and
has to be replaced.

Master key battery replacement
Each master key contains a battery housed under the
cover.

We recommend having the battery changed by a qualified
workshop. However, if you wish to replace the dead battery
yourself, proceed as follows:
- Pry apart the base::::::,fig. 25
@andthecover @carefully
with a coin.
- Remove the cover (arrow) .
- Remove the dead battery from the cover.
- Install the new battery. Please make certain that the"+"
sign on the battery faces down. Correct polarity is shown
on the cover.
- Place the cover with the new battery on the key base and
press both parts together.
For the sake of the environment
Dispose of dead batteries properly so as not to pollute the environ Â
ment.
[ i ] Tips
The replacement battery must be the same specification as the
original. •
Electronic immobilizer
The immobilizer prevents your vehicle from being started
by unauthorized persons.
A computer chip inside your key automatically deactivates the elec Â
tronic immobilizer when you insert the key in the ignition lock .
When you remove the key from the ignition lock, the electronic
immobilizer is automatically activated once again .
If an unauthorized key was used,
SAFE is displayed continuously in
the odometer display field.
[ i ] Tips
• Your engine can only be started using the factory -equipped key.
• You may not be abl e to s tart your vehicle if an ignition key of a
different vehicle make is also located on your set of keys.

Power locking system
General description
The power locking system locks or unlocks all doors and
the rear lid simultaneously.
The power locking system in your vehicle incorporates the following
functions:
• Central locking function

• Remote control feature=> page 37.
• Anti -theft alarm system => page 46.
All the doors and the rear lid are locked by the central locking
sys tem when you lock the veh icle.
Unlo cking th e ve hicle
You can un lock the vehicle from outside either by using the remote
control
o r by inserting and turning the key in the driver's door lock.
When you
unlock your vehicle :
• The anti -theft alarm system is deactivated briefly .
• T he vehicle i nteri or lights illuminate fo r approxi mate ly 30
seconds .
• All tu rn signal lights will flash twice when t he car is unl ocked .
• After un locking the vehicle, you have 30 seconds to open a door
or the rear lid. After 30 seconds, t he vehicle automatically locks and
the anti-theft a larm system activates again.
The rear lid can be locked o r unlocked either by u sing the remote
control
or by inserting and turning the key in the driver's door lock.
Un loc king the vehicle with the remote control

the rear lid, to open it, the l id handle needs to be pressed.
Lo cking the vehi cle
You can lock the vehic le from outside either by using the remote
control
or by i nserting and tu rning the key in the drive rs's d oor l ock .
When you
lock the vehicle:
• All doors and the rear lid are locked .
• All turn signal lights w ill flash once when the car is locked .
• T he anti -theft alarm sys tem is activated. The horn of the anti Â
theft alarm system wi ll sound and the anti -theft alarm system readi Â
ness light, loca ted in the center of the instrument pane l below the
w indshie ld on the right side of the a ir vent, wil l start to b link.
• The ve hicle interior l ights tur n off .

Automati c locking *
The a utoma tic locking feature l ocks all the vehicle do ors and t he
rear lid when you drive faster than 9 mph (15 km/h).
You can unlock the vehicle from the inside by :
• removi ng the key from the igniti on swi tch (the vehicle wil l a uto Â
matically un lock itself) or
• pressing the unlock part o f the power lock switch
l!:)) or
• pul ling the inside handle for that door (once -the front doo r is
unlocked and opened at the same time, twice to open the rear doo r).
I f you wish, you can have an authorized Audi dea ler convert your
p ower d oor lock system to auto matic l ocki ng .
& WARNING
• When you lock your vehicle from out side , nobody - especially
c hildren - should remain inside the vehi cle . Re member , when you
lock the vehicle from the out side the window s cannot be opened
from the inside .
• When you leave the vehicle , alway s remove the ignition key and
t a ke it with you . This will prevent passengers (children , for
example ) from accidentally being locked in the vehicle should they
accidentally press the po wer locking swit ch on the center c onsole .
• Do not leave children ins ide the vehicle unsupe rvised. In an
emergen cy it would be imposs ible to open the doors from the
out side without th e key.
[ i ] Tips
• I n the eve nt of a crash with airbag deployment all locked do ors
wi ll be automatically un locked to give access to the vehicle occuÂ
p a nts from the outside.

• You are well advised not to keep valuables inside an unattended
vehic le , visible or not . Even a properly locked vehicle cannot provide
the security of a safe! •

T he remote controls al lows you to :
• l ock or unlock the vehicle
• se lective ly unlock the rear lid.
T he tu rn signa ls will flash briefly whenever yo u lock or un lock the
vehic le. Also , the interior light will come on or go off whenever you
open or close the driver's door.
The transmitter and battery are located in the head of the remo te
control. The receiver is located inside the vehicle. The maximum
effective ra nge depends on several things. R emember, if the battery
is weak, the effective rang e decreases .
T he rem ote -contr ol key con tains a fo ld -ou t key tha t you can use to
manually lock or unlock the vehicle and to s tart the engine.
I f you need to replace the remote contro l, or if you need to have it
r epaired, you must see your authori zed Audi dealer. On ly then can
you use the key again.

• The remote control key is automa tically deactivated when the
ignition is switched on .
• Th e opera tion of the remote control key can be temporarily
disrupted by interference from transmitters in the vicinity of the .,.

Closing the rear lid
- Pull it down and shut it firmly~&. There is a recess in
the interior trim of the lid to make it easier to pull down.
& WARNING
• After closing the rear lid, always pull up on it to make sure that
it is properly closed. Otherwise it could open suddenly when the
vehicle is moving.
• To help prevent poisonous exhaust gas from being drawn into
the vehicle , always keep the rear lid closed while driving. Never
transport objects larger than those fitting completely into the
luggage area, because then the rear lid cannot be fully closed.
• Never leave your vehicle unattended especially with the rear lid
left open. A child could crawl into the car through the luggage
compartment and pull the lid shut, becoming trapped and unable
to get out. To reduce the risk of personal injury, never let children play in or around your vehicle. Always keep the rear lid, as well as
the vehicle doors, closed when not in use.
[ i ) Tips
• If the rear lid is open or not properly locked when the ignition is
turned on, the door and rear lid warning appears in the instrument
cluster display.
• If the rear lid on a locked vehicle is unlocked with the middle
button
cs on the remote key , the rear lid is automatically locked
again immediately after closing. This is indicated by the turn signals
blinking. •
Emergency release for rear lid
If the rear lid cannot be opened, an emergency release is
provided.

The emergency release is located on the inside of the rear
lid. To release the rear lid, proceed as follows:
- Fold down the right rear seat back~ fig. 32.
- Take your ignition key and move through the opening until your head and shoulders are in the trunk.
- Now insert the key bit into the slot in the cover as shown
in ~ fig. 33
(D and pry the cover up carefully. ..,.

- Place the key in the round opening behind the cover@
and turn the key in the direction of the arrow. This
unlocks the lock and the rear lid opens a crack.
- Open the rear lid from the outside and put the ignition
key in a safe place. •
Manual door locking
If the power locking system fails (power failure), you will
need to lock the passenger door separately.

An emergency door locking device is integrated in the rear
edge of the doors (only visible when the door is open) for
those doors without a lock cylinder.
- Open the door.
- Remove the plastic cap using the vehicle key=> fig. 34.
- Stick the key into the internal slot and turn the key about
90 degrees as far as it can go to the right (right-side doors) or to the left (left-side doors).
- Replace the plastic cap .

After you close the door, you will no longer be able to open it from
the outside.
You can open it from the inside, however , by pulling on the door
latch,
once for the front doors and twice for the rear doors. •
Child safety lock
The child safety lock prevents the rear doors from being
opened from the inside.

The rear doors are equipped with a child safety lock. It is
operated with the veh icle key. The child safety lock is only
visible when the door is open.
- To
switch on the child safety lock, turn the ignition key in
the direction of the arrow.
- To
switch off the child safety lock, turn the ignition key in
the opposite direction of the arrow .
The child safety lock prevents the doors from being opened from the
inside when you have small children sitting in the rear. •

Anti -theft alarm system
The anti-theft alarm triggers an alarm if anyone attempts
to break int o the vehicle.

T he an ti- t heft alarm system triggers an audible alarm and turns on
t he emergency flasher if an unauthorized interference with the
vehic le is sensed by the system .
How is the anti-th eft alarm sy ste m swi tched on ?
The anti-theft alarm system is switched on when you lock th e
dr iver's door manually using the fold -out key, or when you use the
remo te control. The sys tem is activated approximately 30 seconds
af ter the vehicle is locked . The indicator light => fig. 36 starts
flashing rapid ly for 30 seconds and then blinks slowly .
How is th e a nti-theft alarm system swi tch ed off?
The anti-the ft alarm sys tem is switched off wh en you use the remote
control to un lock your vehic le . If you do not open a do or within 30
seconds after you have unlocked with the remote control, the
vehic le will lock itself again auto matically.
If you lock just the driver's door using your key , the front
passenger 's door and the rear lid remain locked.
Wh en will th e anti th eft alarm s yst em b e trigg ered?
When the v ehicle is locked, the alarm system mo nitors and pro tects
the fo llowing parts of the vehicle :
• engine compartment
• l uggage compartment
• doors
• ignition
When the system is activa ted, the alarm will be triggered if one of
the doors, the engine hood or the rear lid are opened , or if the igniÂ
tion is turned on or the radio removed.
The anti-theft alarm system wil l also go off when the battery is
disconnected .
You can also t rigger the alarm by pressing the PANIC button on your
remo te -contro l key . This wi ll a lert other people in case of emerÂ
gency. Press the
PANIC bu tton again t o turn off the alarm.
How i s th e a nti-theft alarm switched off when
triggered?
The alarm system is switched off when you unlock the vehic le using
the remo te -control key o r when the ignition is switched on . The
alarm wi ll also switch itself off when it comes to the end of its cycle .
Emergen cy flashe r
The emergency flasher will b link briefly when the doors, engine
hood and rear lid are properly closed.
If the emergency flashers do not blink, check the doors , engine hood
and rear lid to make sure they are properly closed . If you close a
door, the hood or the rear lid with the anti -theft a larm switched on,
the emergency flashers wil l b link only after you have closed the
door or lid.

Fo r the anti- theft a larm system to function proper ly, make sure a ll
vehic le doors and windows are closed before leaving the vehicle .•

The switches are located in the driver's door. The front passenger's
door has a own power window switch of its own.
To open/close If the respective switch is pushed or pulled, the
window will , respectively.

• Do not leave children unattended in the vehicle, especially with
access to vehicle keys. Unsupervised use of the keys can result in

starting of the engine and use of vehicle systems such as power
windows, etc. which could result in serious injury.
• Remember -you can still open or close the power windows for
about ten minutes after the ignition is switched off. Only when
either of the front doors are opened are the power windows
switched off.
• Be careful when closing the windows . Check to see that no one
is in the way, or serious injury could result!
• Always remove the ignition key whenever you leave your
vehicle.
• If you lock your vehicle from the outside, no one, especially chilÂ
dren, should remain in the vehicle.
• Do not stick anything on the windows or the windshield that
may interfere with the driver's field of vision. •
Switches in the driver's door
The driver con operate all windows.
In addition to the switches in the driver 's door, there is a
separate switch in each door for the power w indow in that
door~ fig. 37. If the respective switch is pushed or pulled,
the window will open or close. The power window switches
have a
two -position function:

window has lowered to the desired position.
Push the switch briefly to the
second stop : the window
will automatically open all the way.

Reactivating the system after battery
disconnection Reactivating the convenience close/open feature
If the vehicle battery is disconnected and then reconnected,
the automatic closing and opening function will not work until it is reactivated. To reactivate this feature, perform the
following steps:
Reactivating close/open feature
-Pull and hold the power window switch until the window
is completely closed.
- Release the switch .
- Pull the switch again for one second. The automatic
closing/opening is now reactivated. •
Panoramic sliding sunroof
Applies to veh icles: with pano ram ic slid ing sunroof
Description
The panoramic sliding sunroof is operated with the toggle switch
=> fig. 39 wh en the ignition in on .
The panoramic sliding sunroof can still be opened or closed for
about 10 minutes after the ignition has been switched off. However,
as soon as the driver's or passenger's door is opened, the switch for
the roof is inoperative. •

The panoramic sliding sunroof is opened in two stages.
First, the roof lifts up and then it can be opened.
Lifting
- Tap the switch G) ~ fig. 39 briefly, and the roof lifts autoÂ
matically (pop-up position) .
Opening automatically (independent operation)
-Tap the switch G)~ fig. 39 briefly, and the roof moves to
the lift position .
- Tap the switch
G) briefly a second time, and the roof
moves to the low wind noise comfort position .
- Press the switch
G) until the roof is fully open. In this
position increased wind noise may occur.
Opening manually (manual operation)
- Press the switch G) ~ fig. 39, starting from the "lift posi -
tion" unt il the roof has reached the desired position.

-Press the switch 0 => page 49, fig. 39 until the roof is
completely closed => & .
Closing partially
- Press the switch 0 => page 49, fig. 39 until the roof has
reached the desired position => & . If the roof is almost
closed and you interrupt the operation, the roof opens
automatically to a minimum setting; this is the smallest
possible opening that can be set.
If you park your vehicle in the sun, we recommend that you close the
sun blind. You should especially make certain that the panoramic
sliding sunroof is closed when the sun blind is closed when parked
or if there is a sudden rain shower.
The sun blind has two positions : completely open or completely
closed. The sun blind is manually operated.
& WARNING
Never close the panoramic sliding sunroof carelessly or without
watching -there is a risk of personal injury . For this reason , always
remove the ignition key when leaving the vehicle.
[ i J Tips
• When you park your vehicle, we generally recommend closing
the panoramic sliding sunroof and the sun blind.
• When the vehicle is parked, a wet roof should be dried lightly
with a soft cloth
before it is opened so that water does not drip into
the interior.
• In an emergency, the panoramic sliding sunroof can be closed
manually =>
page 50, "Emergency mechanical closing for the
panoramic sliding sunroof".•

Comfort closing
The open roof can also be closed from the outside.
-Hold the key in the driver's door lock in the lock position
until the roof is closed=>& .

Never close the panoramic sliding sunroof carelessly or without
watching -there is a risk of personal injury. •

the panoramic sliding sunroof

Uncovering the light unit
In an emergency, the panoramic sliding sunroof can be
closed manually. Removal of the light unit requires some
dexterity.
