-You can set the timer a maximum of 7 days
in advance.
- You can operate the climate control in the
vehicle interior when the high-voltage bat­
tery is charging using the charging timer
c>page 116.
-Make sure the time and date match in the
MMI settings so that the timer can function
properly. Refer to the MMI Operating Man­
ual for setting the date and time.
- The auxiliary heating or auxiliary heating/
air conditioning* can run longer after the
departure time is reached.

The Dr iver Information System collects data un­
der certain conditions and sends it to a server.
When data is stored, you can data such as the ex­
amples listed below using the Audi connect e­
tron services:
- Duration of the drive in hours and minutes,
- average speed driven in mph (km/h),
- distance driven in miles (km),
- average electric consumption .
For additional information on the Driver Informa­
tion System, refer to
c> page 28, Driver informa­
tion system.
Doors and lights

You can access and display the current status of
the following vehicle data on your mobile devices
without having to be inside the vehicle.
- If the vehicle doors and lids are open/closed,
- If the parking l ights are on/off.
For additional information on opening and clos­

Exterior lighting.
(D Tips
-If the high-voltage battery is not charged,
the amount of access requests is limited to
15 after switching off the ignition. This
helps conserve the 12 volt vehicle battery.
You cannot contro l functions or access in­
formation if the charge level of the 12 volt
vehicle battery is too low.
- If at least two minutes have passed after
the last time the ignition was switched off,

-Please note that unconsciously "resting"
your foot on the accelerator pedal prevents the cruise control from braking. This is be­
cause pressing the accelerator pedal over­
rides the cruise control system .
-If there is a brake system malfunction such
as overheating when the speed warning sys­
tem is switched on, the braking function in
the system will be deactivated. The remain­
ing speed warning system functions will re­
ma in active, as long as the~ (USA mod­
els) /
fil (Canada models) indicator light is
on.

- The cruise control system is ideal for
stretches w ith speed limits. The d river is re­
sponsible for adhering to the correct speed.
- The cruise control remains active when
shifting gears.
- The brake lights turn on when the brakes
are act ivated.

Overriding the speed
You can press the accelerator pedal down to in­
crease your speed, for example if you want to
pass someone. The speed you saved earlier will
resume as soon as you let off of the accelerator
pedal.
If, however, you exceed your saved speed by 5
mph (10 km/h) for longer than 6 minutes, the
cruise control turns off temporarily .

Electronic stabilization
control (ESC)
Description
Electronic Stabilization Control (ESC) supports
driver safety. It reduces the risk of slipping and
improves dr iving stability. ESC detects crit ical sit­
uations suc h as the vehicle overstee ring and un­
de rs teer ing or the wheels are sp inning. The vehi­
cle is s tabilized by app ly ing the brakes or reduc­
i ng e ngine torque. Once t he ES C i s ac tiva ted, the
indicator light
DJ b li nks in the instrument clus ­
ter .
The fol low ing systems are integrated in the ESC:
Anti-lock braking system (ABS)
ABS preve nts the whee ls from lock ing whe n brak­
i ng. The vehicle can s till be steered even during
h a rd brak ing. Apply steady press ure to the brake
pedal. Do not pump the pedal. A puls ing in t he
bra ke pedal indica tes th at the system is act ing to
s tabili ze the vehicle.
Brake assist system
The brake assist sys tem can decrease braking dis­
tance .
It increases brak ing power when the d rive r
p resses the brake pedal q uic kl y in eme rgency sit­
uations. Yo u m ust press and hold the b rake pedal
u nti l the dangero us si tuati on is over. In ve hicles
with adaptive cruise contro l*, the bra ke assist
system is more sensitive if the d istance detected
to the veh icle ahead is too small.
Anti-slip regulation (ASR)
ASR red uces eng ine power when the drive wheels
begin spinning an d adapts the force to the road
conditions. This makes it easie r to sta rt, acceler ­
ate and drive up inclines .
Intelligent Technology
Electronic differential lock (EDL)
T he ED L brakes wheels t hat are spi nning and
transfe rs the drive power to the o ther dr ive
whee l or wheels if the vehicle is equ ipped with all
whee l drive *). T his function is not available at
higher speeds.
In extreme cases, ED L automat ica lly swi tches off
to keep the b rake o n the braked whee l from over­
heating. The vehicle is still working correct ly. ED L
will switc h on again automatically when condi­
tions have returned to normal.
Steering recommendation
T he ESC he lps to s tabilize the vehicle by changing
the steering torque.
Selective wheel torque control
Se lective w heel torque con trol is used w hen d riv ­
i ng on curves. The front whee l on the ins ide of
the curve or both wheels on t he i nsid e of the
c ur ve are braked se lective ly as needed . This al ­
lows more precise driving in c urves .
Automatic post -collision braking system
T he "Automat ic pos t-collis ion braki ng system"
ca n help to reduce the ris k of sliding and of othe r
collisions af ter an a cciden t. If th e ai rbag cont rol
module detects a collision above a certai n vehicle
speed, the vehicle is brake d by the ESC.
T he veh icle does not br ake au tomatic ally if:
- the dr iver presses the acce lera tor pedal, or
- the braking fo rce generated by the pressed
brake pedal is greater than the b raking force
that would be in itiated by the system, or
- the ESC, the brake system o r the veh icle electri­
cal system are not functioning.
A WARNING
- T he ESC and its i nteg rated systems ca nnot
over come the li mits posed by natu ral physi­
cal laws. This is espe cially impor tant on slip­
pery o r we t roads . If the systems beg in act­
ing to stabilize your veh icle, you should im ­
mediately a lter your speed to match the
road and tra ffic condit ions. Do not let the
increased safety provided tempt you into

The battery will d rain if you use fu nctions such as
listening to the radio while the engine is switch­
ed off.
The vehicle 's ability to start may be impaired by
the energy use, a message will appear in the In­
fotainment system disp lay .
The message ind icates that the system will
switch off au tomati cally soon. If you wou ld like
to continue using the funct ions, you must s tart
the engine.
With the engine running
Although electrical energy is gene rated whi le
d riving, the batte ry can d rain. This can happen
when little energy is generated, and m uch is used
and the charge leve l of the battery is not optima l.
To restore the balance of energy, components that requ ire large amou nts of energy are tempo­
rari ly sca led bac k or switched off . He ating sys­
t ems in part icu lar require a g rea t d eal of ene rgy.
If yo u no tice, for example, that the seat heating*
or rear w indow defroster is not wo rking, then it
has been temporar ily reduced or switched off.
These systems are available again as soon as the
energy supp ly has been restored.
In addition , you may notice that the idle speed
has slightly increased . That is norma l and no
cause for concern. Due to the increased idling
speed, the add itiona l required energy w ill be
generated and the battery will be c harged.

not a particular fuel blend meets the speci­
ficat ions, ask your service station or its fuel
supplier.
- Do not use fuel for which the contents can­
not be identified.
- Fuel system damage and performance prob­
lems resulting from the use of fue ls diffe r­
ent from those specified are not the respon­
s ibility of Audi and are not covered under
the New Veh icle or the Emiss ion Control
System Warrant ies .
- If you experience a loss of fue l economy or
driveability and pe rformance prob lems due
to the use of one of these fuel blends, we r ecommend that you switch to unblended
fuel.
Gasoline additives
A ma jor concern among many auto manufactur­
ers is carbon deposit build-up ca used by the type
of gasoline yo u use.
A lthough gasoline gr ades d iffer from one manu ­
facturer to another, they have cer tain things in
common . A ll gasoline grades contain substances
that can cause deposits to collect on vita l engine
parts, such as fue l injectors and intake valves. Al­
though most gasoline brands include additives to
keep engine and fuel systems clean, they are not
equally effective .
Aud i recommends using TOP TIER Detergent Gas­
oline. For more informat ion on TOP TIER Dete r­
gent Gasoline, please go to the official website (www.toptiergas .com) .
After an extended period of using inadequate
fuels, carbon deposit build-ups can rob your en­
g ine of peak performance.

Ch eck ing and Filling
Diesel fuel
Applies to vehicles: wi th diesel engine
Always use U LSD (Ultra Low Sul fur Diesel) No. 2 .
The ULSD No . 2 meets the ASTM D97S.
D iesel f ue l w it h con cen tratio ns of b iod iesel h igh­
er than 5% such as B11, B2 0 or B100 are strictly
prohib ited .
Se rvice station fuel pumps are labe led with the
correct f uel info rmation for easy recog nition by
the user. If the d iesel f uel pump is no t labeled
ask the station operator wha t fu el is being dis ­
pensed before filling up your vehicle .
UL SD No. 2 m ay not be available outside the USA
and Can ada . Be s ure to che ck before traveling to
other countries .
UL SD No . 2 can become thic ke r i n ve ry co ld tem­
peratures, and th is can imp air the engine's s tart ­
ing and running. Depend ing on the season, gas
stations provide ULS D No . 2 that flows be tter in
cold temperatures so that you can continue oper­
at ing your vehicle as usual.
(D Note
- Your vehicle's diese l engine was designed
soley for use w ith ULSD No . 2 . Therefo re,
neve r use gasoline, heating oil, other fuels
or flow imp rovers. These contain substances
that will severely damage the fuel system and the engine . Such damage will not be
covered by yo ur New Vehicle Limi ted War­
ranty .
- If you put a ny amo unt of incorrect fuel in
the fuel tank, do not sta rt the eng ine under
any circumstances. Immed iately contact the
nea res t author ized A udi dealer or author­
ize d Aud i Serv ice Facili ty fo r ass ist ance.
T hese f uels conta in su bstances tha t can se­
verely damage the fuel system an d the en­
gine if the engine is started.
- If the diese l fuel quality is poo r, it may be
necessary to have the wate r drained from
the water sepa rato r in the
fuel filter more
often t han spec ified in the maintenance
schedule. This can help reduce engine mal­
functions <=>

The cata lytic converter is an efficient "clean -up"
device bui lt into the exhaust system of the vehi­
cle. The catalytic converter burns many of the
pollutants in the exhaust gas before they are re­
leased into the atmosphere.
The exclusive use of unleaded fue l is critica lly im­
portant for the life of the catalytic converter and
proper functioning of the engine.
A WARNING
The temperature of the exhaust system is
high, both when driving and after stopping
the engine.
- Never touch the exhaust tail pipes once they
have become hot. This could result i n burns .
- Do not park or operate the vehicle in areas
where the hot exhaust system may come in
contact with dry grass, brush, fuel spill or
other material which can cause a fire .
-Do not apply additional undercoating or
rustproofing o n or near the exhaust mani­
fold, exhaust pipes, catalytic converte r o r
heat s hields. During dr iving, t he substance
used for under coati ng could ove rheat and
c ause a fire.
(D Note
- Be aware that just one tank filling with
leaded fue l wi ll al ready ser iously degrade
the pe rformance of the ca talytic converter.
- Do not ex ceed the correct eng ine o il level
~page 242.
- Do not d rive until the fuel tank becomes
complete ly empty. The engine co uld m is­
fire. Unburned fuel could also get in to the
exhaust system and this co uld cause t he
cata lytic converter to overheat .
- Do no t sw itch off t he igni tion while t he vehi­
cle is moving.
- Do no t continue to operate your vehicle un­
der these cond it ions, as othe rwise fue l can
reach the catalytic converter. This cou ld re ­
su lt in overheating of the converter, req uir­
i ng its replacement.
Ch eck ing and Filling
-To ass ure eff icient operat ion of the Emis ­
sion Contro l System:
- Have yo ur vehicle maintained p roperly and
i n accordance with the serv ice recommen­
dat ions in yo ur War ranty
& Ma intenance
booklet.
- L ack of proper ma intenance as well as im­
p roper use of the ve hicle will impa ir the
f u nction of t he emission control system
a nd could lead to damage.
~ For the sake of the environment
Eve n when the Em iss ion Control System is op­
era ting properly, t he exhaus t gas can have a
su lf ur -li ke exhaus t gas sme ll under some op­
erating s tates . This depends on the sul fur
content of the fuel being used. Using a differ­
ent brand of fuel may help, or fi lling the tank
with lead-free super grade gasoline.
Diesel particulate filter
Appl ies to vehicles: wit h diesel eng ine
The diese l particu late filter filte rs nearly all of
the soot part icles out of the exhaust. The filter
cleans itself automatically under norma l driving
condit ions. If the filter cannot clean itself (for ex­
amp le, because yo u are o nly dr iving short distan ­
ces), the filte r becomes clogged with soot and
the
II symbol fo r the diese l par ticu late filter il­
l u minates

A WARNING
-Do not park your veh icle over flammab le
materia ls such as grass or leaves because
the high temperature of the diesel particu ­
late filte r cou ld start a fi re.
-
- Do not app ly an underbody protectant in the
exhaust system area or a fire could start .

Checking and Filling
-To reduce the risk of burns from hot engine
oil, let the engine cool down to the touch.
- When removing the oil drain plug with your
fingers, stay as far away as possible. Always
keep your forearm parallel to the ground to
help prevent hot oil from running down your
arm.
- Drain the oil into a container designed for
this purpose, one large enough to hold at least the total amount of oil in your engine .
- Engine oil is poisonous. Keep it well out of
the reach of children .
- Continuous contact with used engine oil is
harmful to your skin. Always protect your
skin by washing oil off thoroughly with soap
and water .
CD Note
Never mix oil additives with your engine oil.
These additives can damage your engine and
adversely affect your Audi Limited New Vehi­
cle Warranty.
@ For the sake of the environment
-Before changing your oil, first make sure
you know where you can properly dispose of
the used oil.
- Always dispose of used engine oil properly.
Do not dump it on garden soil, wooded
areas, into open streams or down sewage
drains.
- Recycle used engine oil by taking it to a used
engine oil collection facility in your area, or
contact a service station.
Cooling system
Coolant
The engine coolant performs two functions: it
keeps the engine from overheating and it pro­ tects the engine from freezing in the winter.
The cooling system is sealed and generally re­
quires little attention.
The cooling system has been filled at the factory
with a permanent coolant which does not need to
be changed. The coolant consists of a mixture of

specially conditioned water and the manufactur­
er's glycol-based coolant additive Gl3 antifreeze
with anticorrosion additives (50% for USA mod­ els; 60% for Canadian models). This mixture
both assures the necessary frost protection and
protects metal components in the engine's cool­
ing system from corrosion and scaling. It also
raises the boiling point of the coolant.
Do not reduce the concentration of the coolant in
the summer by adding plain water.
The propor­
tion of coolant additive must be at least 50%
but not more than 60%
to maintain antifreeze
protection and cooling efficiency. If the coolant
frost protection is too low, the coolant could
freeze and damage the vehicle heating and en­
gine cooling system.
For year-round driving, antifreeze is added at the
factory for temperatures down to:
--31°F(-35°C)USA
- - 40 °F ( - 40 °C) Canada.
If you must add coolant, use a mixture of water
and coolant additive. Mixing the coolant additive
with distilled water is recommended.
A WARNING
Before you check anything in the engine com­
partment, always read and heed all WARN­
INGS
~ page 236.
CD Note
- Before winter sets in, have the coolant
checked to see if the coolant additive in your
vehicle is sufficient to meet the climate con­ ditions. This is especially important if you
live in a region where the winter is extreme­
ly cold.
If necessary, increase the proportion
of coolant additive to 60%.
- When adding coolant additive to your cool­
ing system, remember:
- We recommend using only coolant addi­
tive Gl2++ or G13 (check the label) for
your vehicle. This coolant additive is avail­
able at authorized Audi dealers. Other
types of antifreeze can significantly re­
duce corrosion protection. The resulting

Care and cleaning
- Never use warm or hot water to remove snow or ice from the camera lens. This
cou ld cause the lens to crack.
- Never use abrasive clean ing mater ia ls or
alcoho l to clean the camera lens. This
cou ld cause scratches and cracks.
- Door windo ws
- Remove snow and ice on windows and ex -
terior mirrors with a p lastic scraper. To
avoid sc ratches, move the scrape r on ly in
one direction and not back and forth .
- Never remove snow o r ice from doo r win­
dows and m irrors using warm or hot water
because this could cause cracks to form.
- To avoid damage to the rear w indow de­
fogge r, do not apply any sticke rs on the
heating w ires on the inside of the window.
- Decorative parts /trim
- Never use chrome care or cleaning prod-
ucts.
-Paint
-To reduce the risk of scratches, the vehicle
must be free of dirt and dust before pol ­
ishing or waxing .
- To prevent pa int damage, do not polish or
wax the veh icle in direct sunlight .
- To reduce the risk of pa int damage, do not
polish away rust spots .
- Remove cosmetics and sunscreen immedi­
ately- these could damage the paint.
-Di splays
- To avoid scratches, do not use dry cleaning
methods on displays.
- Controls
- Make sure that no fluids enter the con -
trols, because this could cause damage .
-Safet y belt s
-Do not remove the safety belts to clean
them.
- Never clean safety belts or their compo­ nents chemically or with corrosive flu ids
or so lvents and never allow sharp objects
to come into contact w ith the safety belts .
Th is could cause damage to the belt web­
bing.
- If there is damage to the webbing, the
connect ions, the retractors or the b uck les,

have them replaced by an authorized Aud i
dealer or authorized Audi Service Facility.

- Do not turn on the seat heating* to dry the
seat .
- Ob jects w ith sharp edges such as zippers,
rivets on clothing or be lts can cause dam­
age to the surface .
- Open hook and loop fasteners, for exam­
p le on clothing, can damage seat covers .
Make sure hook and loop fasteners are
closed .

-Neve r treat leather wi th solvents , floor
polish, shoe polish, spot remover or sim i­
lar products .
- Obje cts w ith sharp edges such as zippers ,
rivets on clothing or be lts can cause dam ­
age to the surface .
- Neve r use s team cleaners, brushes, hard
sponges, etc . when cleaning .
- D o not turn on the seat heating* to dry the
seat.
- To he lp prevent the leather from fad ing,
do not leave the vehicle in d irect sunlight
for long periods of time . If leaving the ve ­
hicle parked for long periods of time, you
should cover the leather to protect it from
d irect sunlight.
{D Tips
- Insects are easier to remove from paint that
has been freshly waxed.
- Regular waxing can prevent rust spots from
forming.

Fuses and bulbs
-Some of the equipment listed in the follow­
