Automatic power top
General information
Applies to: veh icles with power top
The power top opens and closes automatically.
When open, the power top is stored complete ly
in the power top compartmen t. The power top
can be opened or closed at speeds up to 30 mph
(SO km/h).
Under normal conditions, the powe r top is wind­
and waterproof. In rare cases, small droplets of
water may form under extreme weather condi­
tions such as torrential or prolonged rain. That is norma l and no cause for concern .
Follow the care instruct ions to keep the power
top free of leaks and to maintain its appearance
¢ page 347, Care and cleaning. Also observe the
following:
-Open and stow the power top only when it is
clean and dry. Sharp-edged dirt particles ca n
cause damage to the rear window and the pow­
er top . Stowing the power top when it is damp
can create imprints in it, and if it is left that
way for long periods of time, mildew and other
damage can form .
- Do not leave the power top open for severa l
weeks or the creases in it may become discol­
ored.
- Remove ice and snow before opening the power
top. Do not use any sharp edged objects to re­
move ice and snow or the power top could be
scratched or damaged . The rear window may be
cleared with a standard ice scraper.
- Do not open the power top when the tempera­
ture is be low 32 °F (0 °C) . The fabric in the
power top loses elasticity in sub- zero tempera­
tures.

if the power top cannot be opened or closed

A WARNING
-- When operating the power top, make sure
the function is not affected by wind or other
factors and that it does not interfe re with
other drivers.
- Never drive when the power top is not
locked correctly. The wind from driving
could cause the power top to open. This can
res ult in injuries and damage to the vehicle .
- Make sure no one will be injured by the pow ­
er top supports and other moving compo­
nents when opening and closing the top.
- The headroom in the rea r is reduced when
open ing and closing the power top . Make
sure the rea r passenge rs keep enou gh dis­
tance from the powe r top to reduce the risk
of injury .

Power top
-Be careful when installing so you do not
pinch your fingers.
-Pay attention to the traffic when insta lling
the wind def lector. Install the w ind deflec­
tor from the s ide of the vehicle that is away
from traffic.
(D Note
Do not lean against the veh icle when insta l­
ling the wind deflector. Hard objects and dec­
orations on clothing such as belt buckles can
scratch the pa int.
{!) Tips
-The wind deflector works best when a ll of
the w indows are rolled up wh ile driving.
- Only store the wind deflector in the storage
bag * when it is dry.
Power top emergency
operation
General information

The power top can be closed manually if there is
a malfunction .

Only close the power top manua lly in an emer­
gency . Have a second person assist . Drive to an
authorized Audi dealer or author ized Audi Service
Facility immediately to have the malfunction cor­
rected.
A WARNING
-There is a r isk of pinching the hands or othe r
people during all of the powe r top emergen­
cy operat ion steps.
-Ma ke sure a ll windows a re lowered d uring
emergency operation.

-Do not reach into the power top supports
or other mov ing components.
-Never drive when the power top is not
locked correct ly. The wind from driving
could cause the power top to open. This can
result in injur ies and damage to the vehicle.

The power top storage compartment cover is
not latched after the emergency operation is
complete. Dr ive to an authorized Audi dealer
or authorized Audi Service Facility immediate­ ly to have the malfu nction corrected.

Your vehicle is equipped with an autom atic head­
light range control system that red uces g lare for
oncoming traffic if the veh icle load changes. The
headlight range adj usts automatically .

Audi adaptive light
Appl ies to: veh icles w ith Audi adaptive light
Adaptive light provides bette r visibili ty when i t is
dark by adapting the ligh ts to the road condi tions
based on speed, such as on e xpressways, rura l
roads, at intersections, and in curves. The adap­
t ive lights only function when the light switch is
in the AUTO* posit ion and the all weather lights
are switched off .
A WARNING
-
- Automatic headlights * are on ly intended to
assis t the dr iver. They do not relieve t he
d river of respons ibi lity to check the head­
lights and to turn them on manua lly based
on the cur re nt ligh t and v isibility condition s.
For e xamp le, fog cannot be detected by the
light senso rs . So always switch on the low
beams under these weather con dit ions an d
when dr iv ing in the dark
fD.
- The rear fog lights sho uld only be turned on
in accordance wit h traffic regulations , to
prevent glare for traffic behind your vehicle.
- If the ve hicle battery has bee n discharging
for a wh ile, the park ing light may switch
off
automatically. A lways make su re your vehi­
cle is parked and adequate ly lit acco rdi ng to
the laws . Avo id us ing the parking ligh ts for
seve ral hou rs .
- Always observe legal regulations when us­
i n g the lighting systems described.
@ Tips
- The lig ht sensor for the automat ic head­
lights* is in the rearview mirror mount. Do
not p lace any st ickers in this area on t he
w indshield .
- Only the front headlights turn on when the
daytime running lig hts are sw itched on *. In
veh icles in ce rtain markets, the tai l lights
w ill also tu rn on.
- In cool or damp weathe r, the inside of the
head lights, t urn sign als and tail lights can
fog ove r due to t he tempera ture diffe rence
b etween the ins ide an d ou tside. They wi ll
clear shortly a fter swi tching them on. This
does not affect the service life of the light­
ing .

ror mount . Do not place any stickers in this area

& WARNING
High beam assistant is only intended to assist
the drive r. The dr iver is still responsible for
con troll ing the headlights and may need to
switch t hem on and off manually depending
on light and visibility conditions . It may be
necessaty to operate them manua lly in s itua ­
tions such as:
- In adverse weather conditions such as fog,
heavy rain, b low ing snow or spraying water.
- On roads where oncoming traffic may be partially obscu red, such as expressways .
-If there are road users with poor lighting,
such as bicyclists .
- In tight c urves and on s teep hills.
- In poorly lit areas.
- With strong reflecto rs, such as s igns.
- If the area of the windsh ield near the sensor
is fogged over, dirty, icy or covered with a
st icker.

T he functions are adjusted in the Infotainment
system .

Entry/exit lighting*
You can switch the entry/exit lighting* on and
off. When it is dar k, it illum inates the area
around the vehicle when un loc king t he ve hicle
and after sw itchi ng off the ignition and opening
the driver's door .

and the light sw itch is in the

Daytime running lights1

The daytime runni ng lig hts can be turned on and
off . When daytime r unning lights are turned on,
the lights w ill stay on continuously whenever the
i gni tion is sw itched on .

The emergency flashers makes other drivers
aware of your veh icle in dangerous situations.
• P ress t h e ~ button to switch the eme rgency
f lashers on o r off.
You can indicate a lane change or a tu rn when the
emergency flas hers are sw itched on by using the
tur n sig nal lever. The emergency flashers stop
tempo rarily .
The emergency flashers also work when the igni­
tion is turned off.

and turned toward the doors

Move the windshield wiper lever to the corre­
sponding position:
@ -Windshield wipers off
(D -Interva l mode. To increase/decrease the w ip­
er intervals, move the switch
@ to the left/right.
In vehicles with a rain sensor, the wipers turn on
in the rain once the vehicle speed exceeds ap­
proximately 2 mph (4 km/h). The higher the sen­
sitivity of the rain sensor is set (switch @to the
right), the earlier the windshield wipers react to
mo isture on the windshield . You can deact ivate
the ra in sensor mode in the Infotainment sys­
tem, which switches the intermittent mode on.
To do th is, select:

@ -Slow wiping
@ -Fast w iping
@ -Single wipe . If you ho ld the lever in this posi­
t ion longer, the wipers switch from slow wip ing
to fast wiping .
®-Clean the windshield To eliminate water
droplets, the w indshield wipers perform one af­
terw ipe after several seconds while dr iv ing in
temperatures above 39 °F (4 °C) . You can switch
th is function off by moving the lever to posit ion
@ with in 10 seconds of the afterw ipe . The after­
wipe function is reac tivated the next time you
switch the ignition on.
Clean the headlights. The headlig ht washe r sys­
tem operates only when the low beam headlights
are on . If you move the lever in
posi tion @, the
headlig hts will be cleaned in fixed intervals .
Applies to: vehicles wi th re ar w indow wiper
@ -Wipe the rear window. The rear w iper moves
abo ut eve ry 6 seconds.
The rear wiper automatically switches on when
the reverse gear is selected and the front wind­
shield wipe rs a re on and running.
(J) -Clean the rear w indow . The number of wipes
depends on how long the lever is held in pos ition
(f) .
_& WARNING
-The rain sensor* is only in tended to assist
the dr iver. The driver may still be responsi­
b le for manually switching the wipers on
based on visibility conditions.
- The windsh ield may not be t reated w ith wa­
ter -repelling w indshield coating agen ts . Un­
favorable conditions, such as wetness, dark­
ness, and when the sun is low, can cause in­
creased glare, wh ich increases the risk of an
accident. Wiper blade chatter is also possi­ ble.
- Properly functioning windshield wiper
b lades are required for a clear view and safe
driving

For safety reasons, the windshield wiper
blades should be replaced once or twice each
year .
(D Note
-The windshield wiper blades must only be
folded away when in the service position!
Otherwise, you risk damaging the paint on
the hood or the windshield wiper motor .
- You should not drive your vehicle or press
the windshield wiper lever when the wiper
arms are folded away from the windshield.
The windshield wipers would move back in­
to their original position and could damage
the hood and windshield .
@ Tips
- You can also use the service position, for ex­
ample, if you want to protect the windshield
from icing by using a cover.
- You cannot activate the service position
when the hood is open .

"Fold the wiper arm away from the rear window .
" Hold the wiper blade below the center -arrow-
¢ fig. 62 and pull it out of the retainer . Hold
the windshield wiper arm securely while doing
this.

Securely hold th e wiper arm at the upper plas­
tic end.
"Fold th e window wiper arm back onto the r ear

Digital compass

"To turn the compass on or off, press the button
@until the compass display in the mirror turns
on or off.
The digital compass only works when the ignition
is turned on. The directions are indicated with ab­
breviations:
N (north), NE (northeast), E (east) ,
SE (southeast), S (south), SW (southwest), W
(west) , NW (northwest) .
(D Tips
To prevent inaccurate compass readings, do
not bring any remote controls, electrical devi­
ces or metallic objects near the mirror.

Warm and cold
driver is transferred to the front passenger's
side . This applies a t emperature change to the
front passenger's side .
8/r Blower
Using the regulator 8£?, you can manually adjust
the volume of air generated by the blower to your
p reference . The blower shou ld always run at a
low setting to prevent the windows from fogging
and to ensure a continuous exchange of air inside
the vehicle . To have the blower regulated auto­
mat ically , press the AUTO button.
~/ :,0/ ~ Air distribution
The air distribution can adjusted with the but­
tons. To have the air distribution regulated auto­ mat ically, press the AUTO button.
The round air vents in the cockpit are adjustable
qpage 73.
To keep the front s ide windows from fogging up
in damp weathe r, we recommend opening the
side air vents and tilting them to the side .
Foot vents are located under the front seats and
adjustable vents on the end of the center console
to heat the rear of the vehicle .
::!_ Defrosting
The windsh ield and s ide windows are defrosted
or cleared of condensation as qu ickly as possible .
The max imum amount of air flows ma inly from
the vents below the windshield. Recirculation
mode switches off. The temperature shou ld be
set at +72°F (22°() o r higher. The temperature is
controlled automatica lly. In the
;Ix setting, the
A/C cooling mode switches on automatically , d e­
pending on the outside air temperature.
The AUTO button switches the defroster off.
cE) Recirculation mode
The recirculation mode can be turned on manua l­
ly or automatically*.
- Switching manual recirculation mode on and
off: Press
the~ button.

- Automatic * reci rculation mode: auto recircula ­
tion needs to be activated in the Infotainment
system. Select in the Infotainment system:

Air conditioning > Auto recirculation
The air
quality sensor that is designed for diesel and
gasoline exhaust automatically sw itches the re­
circulation mode on or off depending on the
level of pollutants in the outside air.
In rec irculat ion mode, the air inside the vehicle is
c ir culated and filtered. This prevents the unfil­
tered air outs ide the veh icle from entering the
vehicle inte rior. Switching rec irculation mode on
whe n driving through a tunnel or when sitting in
traffic is recommended

Pressing the~ button, AUTO or the ;fx button
switches recircula tion mode off.
T he system switches to recirculation mode when
driv ing in reverse when the engine is cold .
SP. Rear window defogger
If the rear window defogger is activated when
the igni tion is switched on, the battery manage­
ment determines based on the battery charge if
i t is possible to turn on . Otherwise, the rear w in ­
dow defogger functions with the engine running
and switches off automatically after approxi­
mately 10 -20 minutes, depending on the out­
side temperature .
To prevent the rear window defogger from
switching off automat ica lly, press and hold the
!fP. button for more than two seconds. This re­
mains stored up to approximate ly 15 minutes af­
te r turning off the ignition.
J Seat heating*
Pressing the J button switches the seat heat ing
on at the highest setting (level 3) . The LEDs indi­
cate the temperat ure level. To reduce the tem­
perature , press the button again. T o switc h the
seat heating off, press the button repeatedly un­
ti l the LED turns off .
After approximately 10 minutes, the seat heating
a utomat ically switches from level 3 to level 2.

Driving
_& WARNING
-Never turn off the engine before the vehicle
has come to a complete stop. The full func­
t ion of the brake booster and the power
steering is not guaranteed. Yo u must use
more force to turn or brake. Because you
cannot steer and brake as you usually
would, this could lead to accidents and ser i­
ous injuries.
- Never remove the ignit ion key from the ign i­
tion lock while the vehicle is moving. Other ­
wise, the steering lock cou ld sudden ly en­
gage and you would not be able to steer the
vehicle.
- Always take the key with you whenever you
leave your vehicle. Otherw ise, the engine
could be started or electrical equipment
suc h as the power windows could be operat­
ed . This can lead to serious injury.
- For safety reasons, always park the vehicle
with the selector lever in the P position .
Otherwise, there is the r isk that the vehicle
could roll unintentionally.
(D Note
If the engine has been under heavy load for
an extended per iod of t ime, heat builds up in
the engine compartment after the engine is
sw itched off and there is a risk of damaging
the engine. For this reason, let the engine run
for at idle for approximately two minutes be­
fore shut ting it off.
(0 Tips
For up to 10 minutes after stopping the en­
gine, the rad iator fan may turn on again auto­
matically or it may continue to run (even if
the is ignition switched off) due to the follow­
ing reasons:
- The coolant temperature is increasing due
to trapped heat.
- If the engine is warm and the engine com­
partment also heats up from strong sun ­
light.

Starting the engine
"'Press the brake pedal and move the selector
lever to the P or N position .
"'Press the I START ENGINE STOP ! button briefly .
Th e engine will start.
Equipment that uses a lot of electricity is switch­
ed off temporarily when you start the engine .
If the engine does not start immediately, stop
the starting procedure by pushing the
I START ENGINE STOP ! button again and repeat
after 30 seconds .
Switching the ignition on/off
If you would like to switch the ignition on with­
out starting the engine, follow these steps:
"' Press the I S TAR T ENGINE ST OP I button with-
out press ing the brake pedal. Vehicles without
the Start/Stop system *: the need le in the tach­
ometer moves into the
READY position.
"'To switch the ignition off, press the button
aga in . The needle in the tachometer moves into
the
OFF position . .,..

If the 'Tj indicator light blinks and the message
Please turn steering wheel appears when switch­
ing the ign ition on, the steer ing lock is locking
the steering wheel. In this case, turn the steering
wheel slight ly to the left/right.
Start /Stop system*
See the information in¢ page Bl, Start/Stop
system .
A WARNING
To reduce the risk of poisoning, never allow
the engine to run in confined spaces.
@ Note
Avoid high engine speed, full throttle, and
heavy engine load if the engine has not
reached operating temperature yet. You could
damage the engine.
@ For the sake of the environment
Do not let the engine run while parked to
warm up. Begin driving immediately. This
re­
duces unnecessary emissions.
(D Tips
-Some noise after starting the engine is nor­
mal and is no cause for concern.
- If you leave your vehicle with the ignition
switched on, the ignition will switch off
af­
ter a certa in amount of t ime. Make sure that
electr ica l equ ipment such as the exter ior
lights are switched off.
Stopping the engine

lock1 )
T he steering locks when yo u turn the engine off
using the
I STA RT ENG INE S TOPI* button, move
the selector lever into the P position and open
the driver's door. The locked steering hel ps pre ­
vent vehicle theft.
Emergency off function
If it is absolutely necessary, the eng ine can also
be turned off whi le driving at speeds starting at
4 mph (7 km/h). To switch the engine off, press
the
I START ENGINE STOPI button twice in a row
briefly or press and ho ld for longer than two sec­
onds.
A WARNING
-- Never turn off the engine before the vehicle
has come to a complete stop. The full func­
tion of the brake booster and the power
steer ing is not guaranteed. You must use
mo re force to turn or brake. Because you
cannot steer and brake as you usually
