Central locking
Description
You can lock and un lock the veh icle centrally . You
have the following options:
-Remote control key <=> page 36, or
-Sensors in the front door handles"
<=>page 36, or
-Lock cylinder on the driver's door<=> page 38,
or
-Interior central locking switch <=> page 3 7.
Tu rn sign als
The turn s ignals flash tw ice when you unlock the
vehicle and flash once when you lock the vehicle.
I f they do not f lash, then the ignition may still be
sw itched on or one of the doors , the luggage
compartment, or the hood may be open, for ex­
ample.
Autom atic locking (Auto Lock )
The Auto Lock funct ion locks all doors and the
luggage compartment lid once the speed has ex­
ceeded approx imately 9 mph (15 km/h).
The vehicle will unlock aga in if the ign ition key is
removed, the opening function in the centra l
lock ing switch is act ivated, or one of the door
handles is operated. The Auto Lock f unct ion can
be switched on and off in the Infotainment sys­
tem <=>
page 38.
In the event of a crash with a irbag deployment,
the doors will a lso automat ica lly unlock to allow
access to the vehicle.
Selective door unlocking
The doors and luggage compartment lid w ill lock
when they close. You can set in the Infotainment
system whether
only the driver's door or the en­
tire ve hicle should be unlocked when unlocking
<=> page 38.
Unintentionally locking yourse lf out
Only lock your vehicle when all of the doors and
the luggage compartment lid a re closed and the

remote control key is not in the vehicle. This
helps to prevent you from locking yourself out
accidenta lly.
The following conditions prevent yo u from lock­
ing you r remote control key in the vehicle:
-If the driver's door is open, the vehicle cannot
be locked by press ing the
Iii button on the re­
mote contro l key or touching the locking sen ­
sor* on a doo r.
-If the most recently used convenience key* is in
the luggage compartment, the luggage com­
partment lid automatically unlocks again after
closing it.
-If the convenience key* that was last used is de ­
tected inside the vehicle, then the vehicle will
not be ab le to lock from the outside.
A WARNING
-Always take the veh icle key with you when
leaving the vehicle, even for a short period
of t ime. This applies part icularly when chil­
dren remain in the vehicle . Otherwise the
children could start the eng ine or ope rate
electrical equipmen t such as power win­
dows.
- No one, especially ch ildren, should stay in
the vehicle when it is loc ked from the out­
side, because the windows can no longer be
opened from the
inside ¢ page 38. Locked
doors make it more difficu lt for emergency
workers to get into the vehicle, which puts
lives at risk.
(D Tips
-Do not leave va luables unattended in the ve­
hicle. A locked vehicle is not a safe!
-T he LED in the driver's door rail blinks when
you lock the vehicle. If the LED lights up for
approximate ly 30 seconds after locking,
there is a malfunction in the centra l locking
system . Have the problem corrected by an
authorized Audi dealer or authorized Aud i
Service Facility.

A WARNING
-After closing the luggage compartment lid,
make sure that it is latched . Otherwise the
luggage compartment lid could open sud­
denly when driving, which increases the risk
of an accident.
- Never drive with the luggage compartment
lid ajar or open, because poisonous gases

can enter the vehicle interior and create the
risk of asphyx iat ion.
-Never leave your vehicle unattended when
the luggage compartment lid is open. A
child could climb into the veh icle through
the luggage compartment. If the luggage
compa rtment lid was then closed, the child
wou ld be trapped in the veh icle and unable
to escape. To reduce the r isk of injury, do
not a llow children to play in or around the
veh icle. Always keep the luggage compart­
ment lid and the doors closed when the ve­
hicle is not in use.
- Always make sure no one is in the luggage
compartment lid's range of motion when it
is closing, especially near the hinges . Fin­
gers or hands could be pinched.

-When the vehicle is lock ed, the luggage
compartment lid can be unlocked separately
by pressing the
I= I button on the remote
control key . The luggage compartment lid
locks automatically when it is closed again.
- In case of an emergency or a faulty handle,

A WARNING
- Always remove the ignition key when you
leave your vehicle, even for a short period of
time. This applies particularly when children remain in the vehicle. Otherwise the chil­
dren could start the engine or operate e lec­
trical equipment such as power windows,
wh ich increases the r isk of injury. The power
windows continue to function until the dr iv­
er's door or front passenger's door has been
opened .
- Pay ca refu l attent ion when closing the win­
dows. Pinching cou ld cause serious injuries .
- When locking the vehicle from outside, the
vehicle must be unoccupied since the win­
dows can no longer be opened in an emer­
gency.
(D Tips
After turning the igni tion off you can still
open and close the windows for approximate ·
ly 10 seconds . The power w indows do not
switch off until the driver's door or front pas­
senger's door has been opened.
Convenience opening/closing

Correcting power window malfunctions

tion if it malfunctions .

- Only adjust the front seat with when the ve­

- The power adjustment for the front seats al­

so n, children should never be left unattend­
ed in the veh icle

- Exercise caution when adjusting the seat
height. Uns upervised or careless seat ad­
justment can p inch fingers or hands causing
injur ies .
- T he front seat backrests m ust not be re­
cl ined too far back when driving, because
this impairs the effectiveness of the safety
belts and airbag system, which increases
the risk of injury .

The massage function* switches off a utomat i­
cally after approximately 10 mi nutes.

once the seat is locked into place .

If the seat w ill not lock in place after using
easy seat entry, slide the seat all the way back
unt il it stops. Then adjust the seat to the de­
sired posit ion.

Driving
"'To start driving and release the parking brake
automatically, press the accelerator pedal as
usual.
In addition to releasing the parking brake auto­
matically, other convenience and safety functions
are available when you start driving

Starting from a stop.
Preventing the automatic parking brake
release
The vehicle could begin rolling unintentionally,
dep ending on the hill or if towing a trailer.
"'To prevent the parking brake from releasing au­
tomatically, pull and hold
the®> switch and
press the accelerator pedal. The parking brake
remains set and prevents the vehicle from roll­
ing backward.
"'You can release the(®) switch again once you
are sure that you are giving enough driving
force to the wheels by pressing the accelerator pedal.
Emergency braking function
You can use the emergency braking function in an emergency situation, or if the standard brake op­
eration malfunctions or is disabled .
"'Pull and hold the(®) switch.
"' As soon as you release the ®> switch or acceler-
ate, the braking stops .
Pulling and holding
the®> switch while driving
the vehicle activates the emergency braking func­
tion . The vehicle is braked at all four wheels by
activating the hydraulic brake system. The brak­ ing effect is similar to heavy
braking ¢,&. .
To reduce the risk of activating the emergency
braking by mistake, a warning tone (bu zzer)
sounds when
the(®) switch is pulled. Emergency
braking stops as soon as
the(®) switch is released
or the accelerator pedal is pressed .
Parking
"' Press the brake pedal to stop the vehicle.
"'Pull the®> switch to set the parking brake.
"'Place the selector lever in the P position.
"'Turn the engine off ¢,&. .

"'Turn the steering wheel when parking on in­
clines so that the wheels will roll into the curb
if the vehicle starts moving.
A WARNING
- Do not press the accelerator pedal inadver­
tently if a gear is selected when the vehicle
is stationary and the engine is running . Oth ­
erwise, the vehicle will start to move imme­
diately and this could result in an accident.
- Emergency braking should only be used in
an emergency, when the normal brake pedal has failed or the brake pedal is obstructed.
During emergency braking, your vehicle will
brake similar to heavy braking. ESC and the
associated components (ABS, ASR, EDL)
cannot overcome the laws of physics. In cor­
ners and when road or weather conditions
are bad, a full brake application can cause
the vehicle to skid or the rear end to swerve,
which increases the risk of an accident.
- If the power supply fails, you cannot set the
parking brake if it is released . In this case,
park the vehicle on level ground and secure
it by placing the selector lever in the P posi­
tion. See an authorized Audi dealer or au­
thorized Audi Service Facility for assistance.
-Always take the vehicle key with you when
leaving your vehicle, even for a short period
of time . This applies particularly when chil­
dren remain in the vehicle. Otherwise chil­
dren could start the engine, release the
parking brake or operate electrical equip­
ment such as power windows, which in­
creases the risk of an accident.
- No one should remain in the vehicle when it
is locked - especially children. Locked doors
make it more difficult for emergency work­
ers to get into the vehicle, which puts lives
at risk .
(D Tips
When stopping at a traffic signal or stopping
in city traffic, you can set the parking brake
manually . The vehicle does not have to be
held with the brake pedal. The parking brake
eliminates the tendency to creep when a se­ lector lever position is engaged . As soon as

~ Always keep both feet in the footwell so that
you are in control of the vehicle at all times.

A WARNING
Drivers who are unbelted, out of position or
too close to the airbag can be seriously in­
jured by an airbag as it unfolds. To help re­
duce the risk of serious personal injury:
-Always adjust the driver's seat and the
steering wheel so that there are at least
10 inches (25 cm) between your breastbone
and the steering wheel.
-Always adjust the driver's seat and the
steering wheel so that there are at least
4 inches (10 cm) between the knees and the
lower part of the instrument panel.
-Always hold the steering wheel on the out­
side of the steering wheel rim with your
hands at the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock posi­
tions to help reduce the risk of personal in ­
jury if the driver's airbag inflates.
-Never hold the steer ing wheel at the
12 o'clock posit ion or with your hands at
other positions inside the steering wheel
rim or on the steering wheel hub. Holding
the steering wheel the wrong way can cause
serious injuries to the hands, arms and head if the driver 's airbag inflates.
-Pointing the steering wheel toward your
face decreases the ability of the supplemen­
tal driver's airbag to protect you in a colli­ sion.
-Always sit in an upright position and never lean against or place any part of your body
too close to the area where the airbags are
located.
-Before driving, always adjust the front seats
properly and make sure that all passengers
are properly restrained.
-For adjustable head restraints: before driv­
ing, always also adjust the head restraints
properly .
-Never adjust the seats while the vehicle is
moving. Your seat may move unexpectedly
and you could lose control of the vehicle.
-
Driving safety
-Never drive with the backrest reclined or
tilted far back! The farther the backrests are
tilted back, the greater the risk of injury due
to incorrect positioning of the safety belt
and improper seating position.
-Children must always ride in child safety
seats

Proper seating position for the front
passenger
The proper front passenger seating position is
important for safe, relaxed driving.
For your own safety and to reduce the risk of in­
jury in the event of an accident, we recommend
that you adjust the seat for the front passenger
to the fol lowing position:
~ Adjust the angle of the seatback so that it is in
an upright position and your back comes in full
contact with it whenever the vehicle is moving.
~ For adjustable head restraints: adjust the head
restraint so the upper edge is as even as possi­
ble with the top of your head. If that is not pos ­
sible, try to adjust the head restraint so that it is as close to this position as possible
c::;, page 63. Move the head restraint so that it is
as close to the back of the head as possible .
~ Keep both feet flat on the floor in front of the
front passenger seat.

A WARNING
Front seat passengers who are unbe lted, out
of position or too close to the airbag can be
seriously injured or killed by the airbag as it
unfolds . To help reduce the risk of serious
personal injury:
-Passengers must always sit in an upright po­
sition and never lean against or place any pa rt of their body too close to the area
where the airbags are located.

- Open all air outlets in the instrument pan-
el,
- Switch off the air recirculation,
- Set the fresh air fan to the highest speed.

-
Always make sure that the doors, all win­
dows, the power roof*, the power top* and
the rear lid are securely closed and locked to
reduce the risk of injury when the vehicle is
not being used.
- After closing the rear lid, always make sure
that it is properly closed and locked.
- Never leave your vehicle unattended espe­ cially with the rear lid left open. A child
could crawl into the vehicle through the lug­
gage compartment and close the rear lid be­
coming trapped and unable to get out. Be­
ing trapped in a vehicle can lead to serious
personal injury.
- Never let children play in or around the vehi­
cle.
- Never let passengers ride in the luggage
compartment. Vehicle occupants must al­
ways be properly restrained in one of the ve­
hicle's seating positions.
(D Tips
- Air circulation helps to reduce window fog­
ging . Stale air escapes to the outside
through vents in the trim panel. Be sure to
keep these slots free and open.
- The tire pressure must correspond to the load. The tire pressure is shown on the tire
pressure label. The tire pressure label is lo­
cated on the driver's side B-pillar. The tire
pressure label lists the recommended cold
tire inflation pressures for the vehicle at its
maximum capacity weight and the tires that
were on your vehicle at the time it was man­ ufactured. For recommended tire pressures
for normal load conditions, please see chap­ ter
c:> page 336.

· Tie-downs
The luggage compartment is equipped with four
tie-downs to secure luggage and other items .
Use the tie-downs to secure your cargo properly
c:> page 253, Loading the luggage compartment .
In a collision, the laws of physics mean that even
smaller items that are loose in the vehicle will
become heavy missiles that can cause serious in­
jury . Items in the vehicle possess energy which
vary with vehicle speed and the weight of the
item . Vehicle speed is the most significant factor .
For example, in a frontal collision at a speed of
30 mph (48 km/h), the forces acting on a 10-lb
(4 .5 kg) object are about 20 times the normal
weight of the item. This means that the weight
of the item would sudden ly be about
200 lbs. (90 kg). You can imagine the injuries
that a 200 lbs. (90 kg) item flying freely through
the passenger compartment could cause in a col­
lision like this.
.&, WARNING
Weak, damaged or improper straps used to
secure items to tie-downs can fail during hard
braking or in a collision and cause serious per­
sonal injury.
- Always use suitable mounting straps and
properly secure items to the tie-downs in
the luggage compartment to help prevent
items from shifting or flying forward as dan­
gerous missiles.
- When the rear seat backrest is folded down, always use suitable mounting straps and properly secure items to the tie-downs in
the luggage compartment to help prevent
items from flying forward as dangerous
missiles into the passenger compartment.
- Never attach a child safety seat tether strap
to a tie-down.

Autom ati c safet y belt retr actors
Every safety belt is equipped with an automatic
belt retractor on the shoulder belt . This feature
locks the belt when the belt is pulled out fast,
during hard braking and in an accident . The belt

seat is equipped with a convertib le lock ing retrac­
tor that
mu st be used when the safety belt is
used to attach a child safety seat . Be sure to read

- Safety belts offer optimum protection only
when the seatback is upright and belts are properly posit ioned on the body .
- Always make sure that the rear seat back ­
rest to which the center rear safety belt* is
attached is securely latched whenever the
rear center safety belt is being used.
If the
backrest is not sec urely latched, the passen ­
ger will move forward with the back rest du r­
ing sudden braking, in a sudden maneuver
and especia lly in a crash.
- Never attach the safety belt to the buckle for another seat. Attaching the belt to the
wrong buckle will reduce safety be lt effec­
tiveness and can cause serio us personal in­
jury.
-A passenger who is not properly restrained
can be seriously injured by the safety belt it­
self when it moves from the stronger parts
of the body into critical areas like the abdo­
men .
-Always lock the convertible locking retractor
