Emergency assistance
-Before you change a wheel, be sure the
ground is level and firm. If necessary, use a
sturdy board under the jack.
-Always store the veh icle tool kit , the jac k
and the replaced tire in the luggage com­ partment

Changing a wheel
When you change a wheel, follow the sequence
described below step -by-step and in exactly that
order .
1. Remove the decorative wheel cover*. For
more details see also
c:> page 364, Decor a­
tive wheel covers
or c:> page 365, Wheels
with wheel bolt caps.
2 . Loosen the wheel bolts c:> page 365 .
3. Locate the proper mounting point for the
jack and align the jack below tha t point
c:> page 366 .
4. Raise the car w ith the jac k c:> page 366 .
5. Remove t he wheel with the flat tire an d t hen
ins tall
the spare c:> page 367.
6. Tighten all wheel bolts light ly .
7.
Lower the veh icle w ith the jack .
8. Use t he wheel bo lt wrench and
firmly t ighten
all whee l bolts

9. Replace the decorative wheel cover* .

A wheel change is not complete without the do­
ing the following .
.,. Always store the vehicle tool kit, the jack * and
the replaced t ire in the luggage compartment

.,. Check the tire pressure on the spare wheel im­
m ed iate ly aft er mo unt ing it.

.,. As soon as possib le, h ave the tightening tor­
ques
on a ll wheel bolts checked with a torq ue
w rench . The correct tighteni ng torq ue is
90 ft lb (120 Nm).
.,. Have the flat t ire replaced as soon as poss ib le .

-If you not ice that the wheel bo lts are cor­
roded and d ifficult to turn while c hanging a
t ire , th ey s hou ld be replaced before you
check the t igh tening torque.
-Dr ive at reduced speed until yo u have the
t igh tening torques checked .
- After chang ing a wheel, the tire p ressure in
all four tires must be checked/cor rected and
t h e tire pressure monito ring ind icator must
be stored in th e
MMI r:::;, pag e 349 .
Decorative wheel covers
Applies to: vehicles with decorative wheel covers
The decorative wheel covers must be removed
first to access the wheel bolts .

A fuse that has blown will have metal strips that
have burned through .

If a new fuse burns out again shortly afte r you
have insta lled it, have the electrical system
chec ked as soon as poss ible by an authorized
Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Fac ili­
ty.

- The following table does not list fuse loca­
tions that are not used.
- Some of the equipment listed in the fo llow­
ing tables applies on ly to certain model ver­
sions or certa in optional equipment.

Sheet metal and bulb ho lde rs can have s ha rp
edges that can cause ser ious c uts, parts must be
correct ly taken apart and then properly put back
together to he lp prevent breakage of parts and
long term damage from water that can enter
housings that have not been properly resea led.
F or your safety, we recommend that you have
your authorized Audi dealer replace any bu lbs for
you, s ince your dealer has the proper tools, the
correct bulbs and the expert ise.
Ga s di sch arg e lamps (Xen on li ght s)
Due to the high elect rical voltage, have the bulbs
replaced by a qua lified technic ian . Head lights
with Xenon light are ident ified by the h igh vo lt ­
age sticker.
LED h eadlight s*
LED headlights require no maintenance . Please
contact your authorized Audi dealer if a bulb
needs to be replaced .
A WARNING
Chang ing Xenon lamps w it h out the necessa ry
equ ipment can cause ser ious perso na l inju ry.
- Bul bs are p ressur ized and can explode when
being changed. Potentia l risk of i njury!
- On vehicles equipped wit h gas discharge
bulbs (Xenon light) life-threatening inju ries
can result from imp roper ha ndl ing of the
high -voltage po rtions of su ch lamps!
- Only yo ur auth o rized Aud i dea le r or q ual i­
fied workshop should change the b ulbs in
gas discharge lamps . There a re parts with
sharp edges on the openings and on the
bulb ho lders t hat can cause serious cuts . If
you are uncertain about what to do, have
the work performed by an authorized A udi
dealer or qualified workshop. Serious per­
sonal injury may resu lt from improperly per­
formed work .
(D Tips
-If you still prefer to rep lace the light bu lbs
yourself, be aware that the engine com part-

Emergency situations
9. Route the jump sta rt cables so they cannot
get caught in the moving parts in the engine
compartment.
Starting the engine
10. First start the engine in the vehicle g iving the
charge and let it run at idle.
11. Now start the engine in the vehicle with the
drained vehicle battery and wait two to three
minutes until it "runs smoothly" .
12.
If the engine does not start, stop the starting
procedure after 10 seconds and then repeat
it after approximately 30 seconds .
13 . In the vehicle that is being jump started,
switch the heater fan and rear w indow de­
froster on to reduce any voltage peaks that may occur when disconnecting the jumper
cab les. The headlights must be switched
off.
14. While the engines a re running, remove the
cables in
reverse order from the way they
were installed, as described in ¢
page 3 76.
Make sure the cables do not get caught in
moving engine components.
15 . Close the cap on the positive term inal.
16 . Sw itch the heater fan and rear w indow de­
froster
off.

@ Tips
-Make sure that the connected positive ter­
minal clamps have sufficient contact with
metal.
- The vehicle battery in your vehicle vents to
the outs ide so the battery gases drain out of
the veh icle .
Towing with a tow truck
General hint s
Your Audi requires special handling for towing.
The follow ing information is to be used by com­
mercial tow truck operators who know how to op­
erate the ir equipment safely.
-Never tow your Audi. Towing will cause dam­
age to the engine and transmission .

-Never wrap the safety chains or winch cables
around the brake lines .
- To prevent unnecessary damage , your Audi
must be transported with a flatbed truck.
- To load the vehicle on to the flatbed, use the
towing loop found in the vehicle tools and at­
tach to the front or rear anchorage

A WARNING
A vehicle being towed is not safe for passen­
gers . Never allow anyone to ride in a vehicle
being towed, for any reason.

with brief, strong pressure to remove it from
the bumper

.,,. Insert the towing loop in the threaded opening
until it stops, and then tighten it with the
wheel wrench .
.,,. After using, place the towing loop back in the
vehicle tool kit .
A WARNING
If the towing loop is not tightened until it
stops when installing, the threads may be pulled out when towing the vehicle and that
could cause an accident .

affect emission leve ls. Th is is detrimental to
the env ironment and increases fuel con ­
sumption.
- A lways observe environmenta l regu lations
when disposing of old engine o il, used brake
flu id, d irty engine coolant, spent batteries
or worn out tires.
- Undeployed airbag modules and pretension­
ers might be classified as Perchlorate Mate­
rial -spec ial handl ing may apply, see
www .dtsc.ca .gov/hazardouswaste/perch lo­
r ate. When the vehicle or pa rts of t he re­
stra int system includi ng a irbag mod ules
s af ety be lts with pretens ioners a re scrap ­
ped, a ll applicab le laws and regulations
must be observed. Your a uthorized Audi
dealer is fam iliar with these requirements
and we recommend that you have your dea l­
er perform this service for you.

Therefo re, the ava ilability of certain parts needed
for repa ir , restorat ion, or reconstruction w ill be
rest ricted , or pa rts will be unava ilable, if the ve ­
hicl e is not repa ired at an a uthorized Aud i co lli­
sion repair facility . This includes but is not limi t­
ed to structura l parts which require specia lized
training and equipment to restore their crash ­
worthiness back to the original NHTSA and IIHS performance.

proved changes to the vehicle. For t his reason, if
parts have to be rep laced, p lease observe the fol ­

Using the wrong spare parts or using non -ap­
proved accessories can cause damage to the
vehicle and serious personal injury.
- Use on ly accessories expressly approved by
Aud i and genuine Audi spare parts
- These parts and accessor ies have been spe­
cially designed to be used on your vehicle.
- Do not use license p late brac kets in the
front area that are d ifferent from the one
installed at the factory, or add additional
li­
cense plate brackets.
- Never install accessor ies such as telephone
cradles or beverage holders on airbag covers
or w ith in the airbag deployment zones. Do­
ing so will increase the risk of injury if a ir­
bags a re tr iggered in an accident!
