30 Driver information display
Resetting the service interval display
Your authorized Audi dealer will reset the cor­
responding service schedule after performing
the appropriate service on yo ur vehicle . Yo u
also have the possibility to reset the oil
change schedule after having performed an
oil change according to Audi specifications.
Select
I CAR I function button > Service interval
display > Reset oil change interval
or ICARI
function button> Car systems* control but­
ton
> Servicing & checks > Reset oil change
interval.
(D Note
If you disconnect the battery terminals, no
calculations can be made for the serv ice
interval display during this time and no
service rem inder wi ll appear. Remember
that observing the proper service intervals
is vitally important to extend ing the life of
your vehicle, particu larly the eng ine, and
maintaining its value. Even if the mileage
driven is low, the maximum period of one
yea r from one service to the next must not
be exceeded .
@ Tips
-Do not reset the display between oil
changes, otherwise the display will be in­
correct.
- The information in the Service Reminder
r ema ins stored even when the vehicle
battery is disconnected.
On-Board Diagnostic
system (OBD)
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) ¢4' i n
the instrument cluster is part of the On-Board
Diagnostic (OBD II) system.
The warning/indicator light illuminates when
the ignition is switched on and goes out after
the engine starts and the idle has stabilized .
This indicates that the MIL is working proper­
ly.
If the light does not go out after the engine
is started, or illuminates while you are driv­
i ng, a malfunction may exist in the eng ine sys­
tem . If the light illuminates, the catalytic con­
verter could be damaged .
Continue driving
with reduced power (avoid­
ing sustained high speeds and/or rapid accel­
erations) and have the cond ition corrected.
Contact your authorized Audi dealer.
If the light il luminates, the electronic speed
limiter may also be malfunct ioning. For more
information
c:> page 31 , Electronic speed
limiter.
An improperly closed fuel filler cap may also
cause the
MIL light to illuminate
c:>page 212.
On-Board Diagnostics

On-Board Diagnostics monitors the compo ­
nents of your emission control system . Each
monitored component in your engine system
has been assigned a code. In case of a mal­
function, the component will be identified
and the fault stored as a code in the control
module memory.
The MIL light may also illuminate if there is a leak in the on-board fuel vapor recovery sys­
tem. If the light illuminates after a refueling,
stop the vehicle and make sure the fuel filler
cap is properly closed
c:> page 212 .
In order to make an accurate diagnosis, the
stored data can on ly be displayed using spe­
c ial diagnostic equipment (generic scan tool
furOBD) .

In o rder to connect the special diagnostic
equipment, push the plug into the Data Link
Connector (DLC) . The DLC is located to the
right of the hood release ¢
fig. 18.
Your authorized A udi dealer or qualified work­
shop can interpret the code and perform the necessary repa ir.
A WARNING
Do not use the diagnostic connector for
personal use. Incorrect usage can cause
malfunctions, which can increase the risk
of a coll is ion!
Electronic speed limiter
-
Your veh icle may be factory equipped with
tires that are rated for a maximum speed of 130 mph (210 km/ h). Thi s is may be less than
the maximum speed of your ve hicle. To red uce
the risk of sudden ti re failure and loss of con ­
trol if the vehicle is operated at excessive
speeds, your vehicle has an e lectronic speed
limiter. The electronic speed limiter prevents
your veh icle from going faster than the t ire
speed rat ing . For more informat ion
¢ page 242 .
If the engine control unit rece ives fa ulty vehi ­
cle roadspeed signa ls, the Ma lfunction Indica­
tor Light (MIL)
¢4 will illuminate . If this oc­
curs, contact the nearest authorized Audi
deale r for assistance.
A WARNING
-
Always observe the posted speed limits
and ad just yo ur speed to suit p revail ing
road, traff ic and weather conditions . Never
drive your vehicle faster than the maxi ­
mum speed rating of the tires insta lled .

keys. Unguarded access to the keys pro­
vides children the opportunity to start the engine and/or act ivate vehicle sys­
tems such as the power w indows etc . Un­
supervised operation of any veh icle sys­
tem by ch ildren can res ult in serious in­
Jury.
- Do not remove the key from the ignition
lock until the vehicle has come to a com­
plete stop. Otherwise the steering col­
um n loc k co uld suddenly e ngage -caus­
ing the risk of an accident.
@ Tips
- The operation of the remote contro l key
c a n be tempo rarily disrupted by in terfer­
ence from tran smi tters in t he v ici nity of
the veh icle work ing in the same frequen­
cy ra nge (e.g . a ce ll phone, radio equip­
ment).
- Fo r security reasons, replacement keys
are on ly available from author ized Audi
dealer.

The check light@¢ fig. 21 in the master key
provides information about different condi­
t ions .
" The check light tu rns on br iefly once when a
button is pressed, and during an "inquiry"
by the convenience key system .
" If the check light does not come on, the bat ­
tery is dead a nd has to be replaced . In addi­
tion, when the batte ry is dead
the m indi­
ca to r li ght appears in the instr ument cluster

-You cannot open the doors or the rear lid
from the outside (increased security, for ex­
amp le when yo u are stopped at a red light).
- The diodes in the power loc king switc h illu­
minate when a ll the doors are closed and
l ocked.
- Front doors: you can un lock and open the
doors from the ins ide by p ulling on the door
hand le.
- Rea r doors: p ull the door handle once to re­
lease the lock. Pull the hand le again to open
the door.
- If you have a crash and the airbag is activat­
ed, the doors automatically un lock.
A WARNING
- The power locking sw itch works w ith the
ignition off and automatically locks the
entire vehicle when it is actua ted .
- On a vehicle locked from the outs ide the
power locking system switch is inopera­
t ive.
- Locked doors make it more diffic ult for
eme rg ency workers to get into th e vehi ­
cle, w hich puts lives at risk . Do not leave
anyone behi nd in the ve hicle, espe cially
ch ildren.

Always take the key with you when you
leave the ve hicle. The key can disarm the
electronic engine immobilizer and perm it
an unauthor ized person to start the engine
and enable ope rat ion of t he vehicle sys­
t ems such as power window or power sun­
roof leading to ser ious personal injury.

- The vehicle cannot be started if an unau­
thorized key is used . T he vehi cle may not
star t if another radio device such as a key
for another vehicle or a transponder is
l ocated on the key ring.

-After closing the rear lid, always p ull up
on it to make sure that it is properly
closed. Otherwise it could open suddenly
when the vehicle is moving.
- To help prevent poisonous exhaust gas
from being drawn into the vehicle, al­
ways keep the rear lid closed whi le driv­
ing. Never transport objects larger than
those which fit complete ly into the lug­
gage a rea, because then the rear lid can­
not be f ully closed.
- N ever leave your vehicle unattended es­
pecia lly with the rear lid left open.
A
child cou ld craw l in to the car thro ugh the
luggage compartment and pull the lid
shut, becoming trapped and unable to
get out. To reduce the risk of personal in­
jury, never let children play in or around
your veh icle. Always keep the rear lid as
well as the ve hicle doors closed when not
in use .
- Always ensure that no one is within
range of the rear lid when it is moving, in
particular close to the hinges -fingers or
hands can be pinched.
(D Tips
When the vehicle is locked, the rear lid can be opened separately by pressing the but­
ton
~ on the master key. When you close
the rea r lid aga in, it locks automat ica lly.

Saving the opening angle of the rear lid
• Bring the luggage compartment lid into the
desired open position. The position can only
be stored when the lid is above a certain
height.
• Press and hold the

least four seconds until the lights blink to
store the desired open position . •
To set a highe r open position, wait at least
five seconds and then carefully press the
luggage compartment lid upward.
• Press and hold the¢

at least four seconds and this will store the
new open position .
The settings in the radio or MMI* determine if
the rear lid can be opened using the handle
¢page 37.
Opening will be stopped immediately when:
- You press the
cs button on the remote con-
trol maste r key for at least one second, or

cs button in the rear lid , or
- You push the handle in the rear lid, or
- You pull the
cs button in the driver's door,
or
- When something blocks the rear lid or
makes it d ifficult for the lid to move .
If you press one of the buttons

rear lid will ei ther open or close, depending on
its ang le .
If you pull lightly on its handle, the rear lid
will close .
Closing will be stopped immed iately when :
- You press the
cs button in the rear lid , or
- You push the handle in the rear lid, or
- You release the
cs button on the driver's
door, or
- When something blocks the rear lid or
makes it difficult for the lid to move .
If you press one of the buttons
cs now, the
rear lid will either close or open, depending on
its angle.
If you pull lightly on its handle, the rear lid
will close .
You can manually stop the automatic open­
ing/closing of the luggage compartment lid.
T he automatic closing process begins if you
push down on the rear lid.

a l until the dr iver's door or passenge r's
door has been opened .
- Pay close attention when closing the win ­
dows to p revent pinching of hands o r
limbs .
- When locking the ve hicle from outside,
the vehicle must be unoccupied since the
windows can no longer be opened in an
emerge ncy.
(D Tips
After the ignition has been switc hed
off,
the w indows can still be opened o r closed
for about 10 minutes. The power windows
a re not switched
off until the driver's door
or passenger's door has been opened.
Convenience opening/closing
The windows and the power sunroof can be
opened and closed with the mechanical key or
the emergency key.

adaptive light*
When switched on, adaptive ligh t adap ts to
curves in the road depend ing on the vehicle
speed and the steering ang le. This provides
better lighting through the curve. The system
operates at speeds between approximately 6 mph (10 km/h) and 68 mph (110 km/h).
St atic corner ing light * (vehicles with adaptive
light) -the cornering light switches on at
speeds up to approximately 25 mph (40 km/ h) when a certain steering wheel angle is
reached or when a turn signal is activated. The
area to the s ide of the vehicle is illuminated
better whe n turn ing .
The adaptive light and the cornering light only
function when the switch is in the AUTO posi­
tion (automatic headlights*) .
A WARNING
-Daytime running lights and automatic
headlights* are only intended to ass ist
the driver . T hey do no t re lieve the driver
of his responsibility to chec k the head ­
lights and to t urn them on manua lly ac­
cording to the current light and visibility
conditions. For examp le, fog cannot be
detected by the light sensors*. So a lways
switch on the headlights
~D under these
weather conditions and when driving in
the dark .
- Crashes can happen when you cannot see
the road ahead and when you cannot be
seen by other motorists. Always turn on
the head lights so that you can see ahead
and so that others can see your car from
the back.
- Please obey all laws when using the
lig hting sys tems described here.

The rear fog lights* should on ly be turned
on in accordance with t raff ic regulation, as
the lights are bright for following traffic. ..,.

@ Tips
- The light sensor* for headlight control is
located in the rear view m irror mount.
You should therefore not apply any st ick­
ers to the windsh ield in this area in order
to prevent malfunctions or failures.
- Some exterior lighting functions can be
adjusted
c> page 48.
- When you remove your key from the igni­
tion while the vehicle's lights are turned
on, a buzzer sounds as long as the driv­
er's door is open .
- In cool or damp weather, the ins ide of
the headlights, turn signals and tail lights can fog over due to the tempera­
ture difference between the inside and
outside. They will clea r shor tly after
switching them on. This does not affect
the service life of the lighting.
- In the even t of a light sensor malfunc­
tion, the driver is no tified in the instru­
ment cluster disp lay¢
page 22.
Turn signals and high beam lever
The lever operates the turn signals, the high
beams and the headlight flasher .
