Saving the opening angle of the rear lid
• Bring the luggage compartment lid into the
desired open position. The position can only
be stored when the lid is above a certain
height.
• Press and hold the

least four seconds until the lights blink to
store the desired open position . •
To set a highe r open position, wait at least
five seconds and then carefully press the
luggage compartment lid upward.
• Press and hold the¢

at least four seconds and this will store the
new open position .
The settings in the radio or MMI* determine if
the rear lid can be opened using the handle
¢page 37.
Opening will be stopped immediately when:
- You press the
cs button on the remote con-
trol maste r key for at least one second, or
- You press the
cs button in the rear lid , or
- You push the handle in the rear lid, or
- You pull the
cs button in the driver's door,
or
- When something blocks the rear lid or
makes it d ifficult for the lid to move .
If you press one of the buttons
cs now, the
rear lid will ei ther open or close, depending on
its ang le .
If you pull lightly on its handle, the rear lid
will close .
Closing will be stopped immed iately when :
- You press the
cs button in the rear lid , or
- You push the handle in the rear lid, or
- You release the
cs button on the driver's
door, or
- When something blocks the rear lid or
makes it difficult for the lid to move .
If you press one of the buttons
cs now, the
rear lid will either close or open, depending on
its angle.
If you pull lightly on its handle, the rear lid
will close .
You can manually stop the automatic open­
ing/closing of the luggage compartment lid.
T he automatic closing process begins if you
push down on the rear lid.

You can switch the "va let parking function" o n
when someone else is parking your vehicle .
When the function is switched on, the vehicle can be dr iven, locked and unlocked using the
maste r key, but access to the luggage com­
p a rtment is not perm itted .
• Take the mechanical key out of the master
key

Installing the head restraints
.. Slide the posts on the head rest raint down
into the guides until you feel the posts click
into place.

head restraint all the way down. You shou ld
not be able to pull the head restraint out of
the backrest.
So that the driver can have a better view to
the rear, the head restraints shou ld be pushed
down complete ly when the rear seats are not
occupied.
A WARNING
- Read and heed all WARNINGS
r:!v page 132, Proper adjustment of head
restraints.
- Only remove the rear seat head restraints
when necessary in order to install a child
seat¢
page 175. Install the head re­
straint again immediately once the child
seat is removed. Driving without head re­
straints or with head restraints that are
not properly adjusted increases the risk
of serious or fata l neck injury dramatical­
ly.

Correctly adjusted head restraints and
safety belts are an extremely effective
combination of safety features .
Seat memory
Description
Applies to vehicles: with memory function
The memory function allo ws you to quickly
and easily store and reca ll personal seating
p ro files for the driver. The memory function is
ope rated through the master key and the
memory buttons in the driver's door.
The driver's seating profile is stored and as­
signed to the master key each time the vehicle
is locked. When you open the door, the seat profile
is automatically recalled. If two peop le
use one vehicle, it is recommended that each
person always uses "their own" master key.
Up to 2 seat profiles can be stored in the
memory buttons in the drive r's door. Once
they are stored, these seat profiles can be se­
l ected at any time .
In addition to the driver's seat settings, you
can a lso store and access the exterior mirror
adjustment settings* using the remote con­
trol key or memory button.
Remote control key
Applies to vehicles: wit h seat memory
To assign the driver's seat settings to the re­
mote control key when locking the veh icle, the
function must be activated in the rad io or
MMI*

The memory buttons are located in the driv­
er's door.
Switching the memory function on/off
• Press the !OFF ! button to switch the memory
function on/off. The word
OFF lights up
when the memory function is switched off.
Seat profiles are neither stored nor recalled.
Storing a seat profile
• Press the !SET ! button. When the word SET
lights up, the memory is ready to store set­
t in gs.
• Press a memory button
([II or rn) briefly. A
tone confirms that the settings were stored.
Accessing a seat profile
• If the driver's door is open and the ignition
is switched off, press the memory button.
• If the driver's door is closed or the ignition is
switched on, press and hold the memory
button until the seat adjustment is com ­
plete .
A WARNING
-For safety reasons, the seat sett ing can
only be recalled when the vehicle is sta­
tionary - otherwise you risk having an ac­
c ident.
- In an emergency the recall procedure can
be cancelled by press ing the
!OF F! switch
or by tapping the memory buttons.

• To open the ashtray, slide the cover up

Emptying the ashtray
• To remove the insert, slide the latch to the
right~

• To instal l the insert, press it down into the
mount.
A WARNING
Never put waste paper in the ashtray. Hot
ashes or other hot objects in the ashtray
could set waste paper on fire.
Cigarette lighter

• Press the cigarette lighter in.
• Remove the cigarette lighter when it pops
out .
T he cigarette lighter should only be used as a
power source for the compressor from the in­
flatable spare kit* when absol ute ly necessary.
A WARNING
The cigarette lighter on ly works when the
ignition is switched on. Incorrect usage
can lead to serious injuries or burns. For
this reason, children should never be left unattended in the vehicle because this in­
creases the risk of injury.

Operation
We recommend pressing the IAUTO I button and setting the temperature to 72 °F (22 °C).

Press the buttons to turn the functions on or
off. Use the d ials to adjust the temperature,
the blower speed and the a ir distribution. The
L ED in a button will light up when the func­
tion is switched on. The settings are displayed
for a few seconds in the radio or MMI* display.
In vehicles with a 3-zone deluxe automat ic cl i­
mate control systems *, the dr iver and front
passenger side can be adjusted separately.
The settings are also d isplayed in the climate
con trol system display.
IOFFI Switching the climate control
system on/off
The IOF FI button switches the climate control
sys tem on or off.
It also switches on when you press the knob. Airflow from outs
ide is
blocked when the climate control system is
switched off.
IACI Switching cooling mode on/off
The air is not coo led and humidity is not re­
moved when cooling mode is switched off.
This can cause fog on the w indows. Cooling
mode switches off automatically when the
outside temperature is be low zero.
1- 1 Switching recirculation mode on/off
In recircu lation mode, the air inside the vehi ­
cle is circulated and filtered. This prevents the
unfiltered air outside the vehicle from enter­
ing the vehicle interior. We recommend

down before critical engine speed is reached .

the transmission will downshift only

ving the engine .
- W hen the kic k-down comes on, the
transm ission w ill shift d ow n to a lower
gear, depending on vehicle and engine
speeds.
- Tip tro nic is inoperative when the trans ­
m ission is in the fai l-safe mode .
Kick-down
Applies to vehicles : wit h mult itronic/S t ro ni c/tip tro nic
Kick-down enables maximum acceleration.
Applies to vehicles with a multitronic
transmission
W hen you depress the accelerator peda l be ­
yond the resistance point, the transm ission
downsh ifts into a lower gear ratio depend ing
on the vehicle speed and engine speed. As
lo ng as the accelerator pedal is depressed, the
engine speed is automatically regulated for
maximum acceleration .
Applies to vehicles with a S tronic-/
tiptronic transmission
When you depress the accelerator peda l be­
yond the resistance point, the automatic transmission downsh ifts into a lowe r gear, de­
pend ing on veh icle s peed an d eng ine speed .
T he upsh ift into t he nex t higher gea r takes
place once the max imum speci fied engine
s p eed is reached .

Homelink
Universal remote
control
Description
Appl ies to vehicles: wit h Homeli nk
The HomeLink universal remote control can
be programmed with the remote control for
devices that are already present.
W ith Home Link, you can control devices such
as the garage door, security systems, house lights, etc. comfortably from the inside of you
vehicle.
Homelink makes it possible for you to replace
three d ifferent remote controls from dev ices
in your home with one universal remote. This
feature works for most garage door and exte­
rior door motor signals. Programming the in­
div idual remote control for your remote con ­
trol takes place near the center of the radiator
grille. There is a control module attached at
this location .
A one -time programm ing of the sensor must
be performed before you are able to use sys­
tems with Home link. If the system does not
activate after performing the one-time pro­
gramm ing, check whether the system uses a
rolling code
q page 127 for vehicles without
the MMI*.
& WARNING
-
- Never use the Homelink transmitter
with any garage door opener that does
have not the safety stop and reverse fea­
ture as required by federa l safety stand­
ards. This includes any garage door open­
er model manufactured before April 1,
1982.
- A garage door opener which cannot de­
tect an object, signaling the door to stop
and reverse does not meet current feder­
al safety standards. Using a garage door
opener without these features increases
risk of serious injury or death. -
For safety reasons never release the
parking brake or start the engine while
anyone is standing in front of the vehicle.
- A garage door or an estate gate may
sometimes be set in motion when the
Homelink remote control is being pro­
grammed. If the device is repeatedly ac­
tivated, this can overstrain motor and
damage its e lectrica l components - an
overheated mo tor is a fire hazard!
- To avo id possib le injuries or property
damage, please always make abso lutely
certain that no persons or objects are lo­
cated in the range of motion of any
equipment being operated.

Remote control units for garage door openers
in Canada are set to stop transmitting radio
frequency signals after two seconds. This time
may not be sufficient for the Home Link sys­
tem to learn the radio frequency signal. Per­
form all other steps as described above.
Erasing/Clearing the programmed button
settings
.. To erase all of the programmed buttons at
the same time, select:
I CAR ! function button
> Car Systems* control button > Vehicle set·
tings> Garage door opener > Clear pro·
gram settings> Yes .
The programmed but­
tons can not be erased individually. Repro­
gram the buttons if necessary .
.. Reprogram an individual button in the same
manner that you would for the one-time
programming .
Displaying the version/status/country
code
.. Select: !CAR ! function button > Car systems*
control button > Vehicle settings > Garage
door opener > Version information .
(D Tips
- Programming through the MMI* is not
possible with all infotainment systems .
If this is the case, program Homelink as
described in version B

- Depending on the model of the garage door opener, you may need to release the

ming a new device, keep the button

2. Press and hold both of the outer Home­
Link buttons

seconds). Th is procedure clears the stand­
ard codes that were set at the factory and
does not need to be repeated again to
p rogram the other buttons .
3 . Briefly press the Homelink button that
you would like to prog ram .
4. Wai t unti l the LED @ beg ins to blin k
q uickly. The Homelink module wi ll now
remain in learning mode for
5 minutes .
5. Now stand in front of your vehicle with
the original hand transmitter for the ga­
rage door opener or for the device that
you would like to allocate to the Home­
Link button .

6 . Hold the orig inal hand transmitter some­
what towa rds the center of your vehicle's
r adiato r grille ¢

7. Now activate (p ress) the hand transmit­
ter.
8 . Pay attention to the tu rn signals fo r your
vehicle when activating the hand trans­
mitter . If the emergency flashers blink
three times, the programming was suc­
cessful. If the emergency flasher only blinks one time, the S minute time limit f
or the adaptation has expired or the pro ­
gramming was unsuccessful. Repeat the
programming from step 3 on the controls
or select another distance from the radia­
tor grille.
9 . If the garage door or other devices still
fail to be activated w it h the HomeL ink
control buttons after programming is
comple ted, it is possib le tha t these sys ­
tems mig ht be work ing with a roll ing code
instead of the normal f ixed code .
A Roll­
ing code programming must be per­
formed
¢ page 127 .
Program the remaining two buttons accord ing
to the instructions mentioned above . Begin
similarly with the 3rd step if the program ­
ming connection was successful for the first
button.
Remote contro l units for garage door openers
in Canada are set to stop transmitting radio
frequency signa ls after two seconds. This time
may not be suffic ient for the Homelink sys­
tem to learn the radio frequency signa l. Per­
form all other steps as described above.
E rasing the button s
.,. Switch on the ignition (do not start the en­
gine).
.,. Press and hold both of the outer buttons un­
til the LED @turns off completely (about
20 seconds) to erase all of the buttons si­
multaneously .
.. Programmed buttons cannot be erased ind i­
vidua lly. Reprogram the buttons if necessa­
ry .
Reprogramming the buttons
.. Switch on the ignition (do not start the en­
gine) .
.. To reprogram an individua l button, press
and hold the b utton unt il the L ED@starts
to f lash quickly (after abo ut ten seconds).
Release the button immedia tely. The Home­
Link module will now remain in learning
mode for 5 minutes.
