Rear seats
General information
Safe transportation of passengers on the rear seats
requires proper safety precautions.
All passengers on the rea r seats must be seated in comp liance with
the safety guidelines explained in=>
page 159 and=> page 168 . The
correct seat ing pos ition is critical for the sa fety of front
and rear
seat passengers alike =>
page 150.

Rear head restraints
The rear head restraints a re set at the optimum height at the factory.
This height setting cannot be changed . This preset height protects
both short and tall persons effective ly. •
Seat memory
App lies to vehicles: with seat memory
Driver 's seat memory
The seat adjustment settings for four drivers can be
stored using the memory buttons in the driver's door.

In addition to the setting for the driver's seat, the settings for the
head restraint* and both exter ior mirrors can be stored .
Storing and recalling setting s
Using the memory buttons G), @ , @ and G), you can store and
recall the settings for four different drivers=> fig . 116 .
The current settings are also automatically stored on the remote
control key being used when the vehicle is locked. When the vehicle
is unlocked, the settings stored on the remote contro l key being
used are automatically recal led . .,..

Turning seat memory on and off
If the I STOP I switch is depressed, the seat memory is inoperative.
The word OFF next to the
!S TOP] switch illuminates .
All the stored settings are retained . We recommend using the
I S TO PI switch and deactivating the seat memory if the vehicle is
only going to be used
temporarily by a driver whose settings are not
going to be stored.

Storing and recalling a seat position
Before you can store or recall your seat position, the [ STOP]
button must be engaged (down).
Storing settings
- Adjust the driver's seat=> page 96.
Adjust the head restraint => page 98
- Adjust both outside mirrors ::::> page 89. In the tilt-down
position, the passenger mirror can be adjusted to the
preferred position and saved in the seat memory.
- Press the [MEMO] button and hold it down. At the same time, press one of the memory buttons for at least one
second.
- Release the buttons. The settings are now stored under
the corresponding memory button.
Recalling settings
-Driver's door open -press the desired memory button .
- Driver's door closed -press the corresponding memory
button until the stored position is reached.
When the vehicle is locked, the current settings are stored and
assigned to the remote control key. But the settings stored on
memory buttons (1) through (4) are not deleted . They can be
recalled at any time. When the vehicle is unlocked, the settings
stored on the remote control key are restored.
If your vehicle is driven by other persons using your remote control
key, you should save your individual seat position on one of the
memory buttons. You can recall your settings again simply and
conveniently by pressing the corresponding memory button . When
the vehicle is locked, these settings are automatically re -assigned to
the remote control key and stored.
& WARNING
• For safety reasons, the seat setting can only be recalled when
the vehicle is stationary -otherwise you risk having an accident.
• In an emergency, the recall operation can be stopped by
pressing the
I STOP] button or by briefly pressing any given
memory button .

- Make sure that all lights and signals are operating
correctly.
- Make sure that the tire pressure is correct.
- Make sure that all windows are clean and afford good
visibility to the outside.
- Secure all luggage and other items carefully~
page 107.
-Make sure that nothing can interfere with the pedals.
- Adjust front seat, head restraint and mirrors correctly for
your height.
- Instruct passengers to adjust the head restraints
according to their height.
- Make sure to use the right child restraint correctly to
protect children~
page 190, "Child Safety".
- Sit properly in your seat and make sure that your passen­
gers do the same
~ page 92, "General recommenda­
t ions" .
- Fasten your safety belt and wear it properly. Also instruct
your passengers to fasten their safety belts properly
~ page 159. •
What impairs driving safety?
Safe driving is directly related to the condition of the
vehicle, the driver as well as the driver's ability to concen­
trate on the road without being distracted.
The driver is responsible for the safety of the vehicle and all
of its occupants. If your ability to drive is impaired, safety
risks for everybody in the vehicle increase and you also

become a
hazard to everyone else on the road ~& .There ­
fore:
- Do not let yourself be distracted by passengers or by
using a cellular telephone.
- NEVER drive when your driving ability is impaired (by
medications, alcohol, drugs, etc.I.
- Observe all traffic laws, rules of the road and speed limits
and plain common sense.
- ALWAYS adjust your speed to road, traffic and weather
conditions.
- Take frequent breaks on long trips. Do not drive for more
than two hours at a stretch.
- Do NOT drive when you are tired, under pressure or when
you are stressed.

Impaired driving safety increases the risk of serious personal
injury and death whenever a vehicle is being used. •

Trailer lights
Trailer lights must meet all regulations. Be sure to check with your autho rized Audi dealer for correct wiring , switches and relays .
Mirrors
If you are unable to see the traffic behind you using the regular
outside mirrors, then you
must install extended mirrors. It is impor ­
tant that you always have clear vision to the rear .
& WARNING
After removing the trailer hitch, do not store it in your vehicle. In
case of sudden braking, the hitch could fly forward and injure you
or your passengers .

Operating instructions
Maximum trailer weight
A trailer for your vehicle is limited to a typical class 1 or class 2
trailer .
Trailer load distribution
Be sure the load in the trailer is held securely in place to guard
against shifting, be it forward, backward or sideways.
Never allow a passenger to ride in a trailer~&, in "Driving instruc­
tions".
Tire pressure
When towing a trailer, inflate the tires of your vehicle to the cold tire
pressure listed under "Full load" on the sticker on the right door­
jamb. Inflate trailer tires to trailer and tire manufacturers' specifica­
tions.

Trailer towing
Lights
The
headlight settings should be checked with the trailer attached
before driving off. Adjust as necessary so that you can see the road
ahead but not blind on -coming traffic.
Check proper working of vehicle and trailer lights .
Safety chains
Be sure trailer safety chains are properly connected from the trailer
to the hitch on the vehicle. Leave enough slack in the chains to
permit turning corners. When you install safety chains, make sure
they will not drag on the road when you are driving.
The chains should cross under the trailer tongue to prevent it from
dropping in case of separation from the hitch .•
Driving instructions
Driving with a trailer always requires extra care and
consideration.
To obtain the best possible handling of vehicle and trailer,
please note the following:
Do not tow a loaded trailer when your car itself is not
loaded.
- Be especially careful when passing other vehicles.
Observe speed limits.
Do not drive at the maximum permissible speed.
- Always apply brakes early.
Monitor the temperature gauge.

Aluminum trim
Use only neutral-pH products to remove spots and deposits from
aluminum surfaces. Chrome care products and alkaline cleaners
will attack aluminum surfaces and can damage them over time.

Touch-up paint
Minor paint damages should be touched up immediately.
-Use either a touch-up paint stick or spray paint to cover
minor scratches and nicks.
Your Audi dealer has touch-up paint for minor scratches and stone
chips. Scratches should be touched up soon after they occur to
prevent corrosion.
If a spot starts to rust, however, a simple touch-up job will not be
enough. The affected surface must be smoothed with sand paper
and covered with an anti-rust primer before the painted finish can
be restored.
The number for the original vehicle paint can be found on the
vehicle identification label~
page 312 .

Windows
Clear vision to all sides.
Clean all windows regularly to remove road film and
carwash wax buildup.
Remove snow from windows using a brush.
- Use a plastic ice scraper to remove ice from windows and
mirrors.
- Remove other residue on the windows with a spray-on
glass cleaner.
Wipe the windows dry with a clean piece of cloth or kitchen paper towel.
The best way to remove snow from windows and mirrors is to use a brush. Use a non -abrasive
plastic ice scraper -better still, a spray
deicer -to remove
ice from windows and mirrors .
The windows must not be cleaned with insect remover or wax since
these can interfere with the function of the windshield wiper blades (chatter!.
Oil, grease or silicone residue can be removed with
glass cleaner or
silicone remover . However, wax residue requires the use of a
specially formulated solvent. Please contact your Audi dealer for
advice on safe products for wax removal.
Windows should also be cleaned on the inside at regular intervals. _,.

Never dry windows with the same chamois that you use to dry
painted surfaces. Wa x resi due on the cha mois can impair vision
through the windows .
& WARNING
• The windshield must not be treated with water-repellent mate­
rials. They can increase glare under poor visibility conditions such
a s wetne ss, darkness , or when the sun is low o n the horizon . In
addition , they can cause the wind shield wipers to chatter .
• Always read and heed all WARNINGS and other informat ion

• Never use war m or hot wa ter to remove snow and ice from
windows and mirrors. Th is could cause the glass to crack.
• To prevent damage to the w ires of the rear defogger, do not p lace
any adhesive stic kers on the inside of the rear window over the
wires.
• To he lp prevent dirt from sc ratching the w indow, a lways scrape
in a forward direction -pushing t he scraper away from you -nev er
back and forth. •
Weatherstrips
Complete c ar ca re includes the wea the rs trips as well .
- App ly a s uitable rubber co ndit ioner to the weat herstr ips
f rom t ime to t ime.
To be able sea l properly, the weatherstrips around the hood, doors,
rear lid , etc. must remain pliable . Spray the weatherstrips with si li­
co ne or coat them w ith ta lcum powder or glycer ine to retain the
flexibility of the rubber and to protect them against free zing in the
winter .

Steel wheels
The wheels also have to be cle aned.
Always include the hub caps and wheel rims when
washing yo ur vehicle to remove roa d dirt, sal t sprays and
brake dust.
I f necessary, use a commercial wheel cleaner to remove accumu ­
la ted brake dust.
The wheel rims a re eas ier to kee p clean i f they are regular ly coated
with liquid wax .
Paint scratches sh ou ld be touc hed u p as so on as possible to p reven t
corrosion~
