The engine speed is automatically limited to
the speed displayed in the driver information
system. This protects the engine from over­
heating.
The engine speed limitation deactivates once
the engine is no longer in the critical tempera­
ture range and you have released the accelera­
tor pedal once.
If the engine speed limitation was activated by an engine control malfunction, the indica­
tor light~ also turns on. Make sure that the
speed does not go above the speed displayed .
Drive to your authorized Audi dealer immedi­
ately to have the malfunction corrected.
~ . Engine oil level
II! Add oil, max. x qt (l) . You may continue

When the symbol II and driver message ap­
pear, add the amount of oil appearing in the
display at the next opportunity

about 2.6 gallons (10 liters) of fuel left in the

A WARNING

-Light bulbs are pressurized and could ex-
plode while they are being changed caus­
ing serious personal injury.
- Work with due care when handling the
high-voltage section of gas discharge
(xenon) lights. Failure to do so could re­
sult in death or serious injury.

Upper odometer

T he lower odometer shows the total number
of mi les (kilometers) drive n.
Malfunction message
If t here is a ma lfunction in the instr ument

Service interval display
The service in terval display reminds you wh en
your next service is due.

The schedule for t he next oi l change or inspec­
t ion is ca lculated automatically and disp layed
accord ingly. T he d isp lay works in two stages:
Service reminder
30 days be fore the next service is d ue, a serv­
ice reminder appears in the display when you
switch the ig nition on

After about 5 seco nds the display switches
back to norma l. The distance and time re­
main ing are updated each t ime the ignit io n is
switched on until the date due for service is r eached .
Service due
When the due date for se rvice is reached, t he

ignition o n. Add itio na lly, a warning to ne
sou nds . After about 5 seconds t he disp lay
switches bac k to normal.
Calling up the service schedules
If or when an oil change or inspection is due,
can be shown in the M MI display by selecting

Ma ster key batter y replacement
We recommend having the batte ry changed
by an authorized Audi deale r. However, if you
wish to rep lace the dead battery yourse lf, pro­
ceed as follows:
> Pull the mechanical key out of the master
key

.. Press the release button @ on the battery
holder and at the same time pull the battery
holder out of the master key in the direction
of the arrow .
.. Install the new battery CR 2032 with the
"+" sign facing down.
> Push the battery holder carefully into the
maste r key .
> Insta ll the mechanical key.

D ispose of dead batteries properly so as
not to pollute the environment.

The replacement battery must be the
same specification as the original.
Electronic immobilizer
The immobilizer helps to prevent unauthor­
ized use of your vehicle .
A computer chip ins ide your key automatically
deactivates the electronic immobilizer when
the key is inside the vehicle . When you remove
the key from the vehicle, the electron ic immo­
bilizer is automatically ac tivated once aga in .

A lways take the key with you when you
l eave the vehicle . T he key can disarm the
e lectronic engine immobilize r and permi t
an unauthorized person to start the engine
and enable operation of the vehicle sys ­
tems such as power window or power sun- roof leading to serious personal injury.

In vehicles with all-weather lights, the front
li ghts are adj usted automatically so that you
are less like ly to see glare from your own
headligh ts, for example when driving on a wet
road .
Automatic headlight range cont rol*
The head lights do not blind oncoming traffic
if the vehicle load changes . The headlight
range also ad justs automatica lly when brak­
i ng and accelerat ing .
Light function s
T he following light funct ions are avai lab le de­
pending on vehicle equipment and on ly func­
tion when the light switch is i n the AUTO posi­
tion. You c an deactiv ate these functions in the
MMI under Audi adaptive light
c::> page 42 .
Vehicles w ith Static cornering light* : the cor­
ner ing light sw itches on automatica lly when
the stee ring whee l is tu rned at a ce rta in angle
at speeds up to approx imately 44 mph (70
km/ h) and when the turn signa l is ac tiva ted a t
speeds up to approximately 25 mph (40 km/
h) . The area to the s ide of the vehicle is illumi­
nated bette r whe n turn ing .
Vehicles with Dynamic curve light* : the
curve
li ght only functions at speeds betwee n ap ­
proximately 6 mph (10 km/h) and 68 mph
(110 km/ h) and adapts itself to the cu rves in
the ro ad.

- Autom atic headlig hts are only intended
to assist the driver. They do not relieve
the dr iver of his responsibility to check
the head lights and to turn them on man -
ually accord ing to the current light and

We recommend using roof racks from the
Audi original accessories program.
- T he support feet of the roof rack must al­
ways be insta lled in the holes in the roof
frame ~
fig. 58 . The holes are only visible
when the doors are open . In the case of roof
racks with pins, the pins must be secured in
the holes during assembly.
- We recommend that you keep the installa­
tion instructions for your roof rack system
together with your Owner's literature in the
vehicle.
Wh en sh ould the roo f ra ck be re mo ved ?
-Before going through an automatic car wash
(it is best to ask the car wash operator for
advice).
- When not in use, to reduce fuel consump­
tion, wind no ise and to guard against theft.
A WARNING
-Use of an unapproved roof rack or incor­
rect mount ing of an approved roof rack
can cause the roof rack o r the items at­
tached to it to fa ll off the roof onto the
road.
- Objects fall ing from the roof of a vehicle
can cause a crash and persona l injury.
- Only mount the roof rack on the desig­
nated locations o n the roof ~

-The roof rack system must be installed
exactly according to the instructions pro­
vided.
- When driving w ith a roof rack system,
changes to the center of g ravity and wind
resistance ca n cha nge the veh icle han­
dling and lead to a collision. A lways
adapt yo ur driv ing and you r speed to the
c u rrent conditions.
(D Note
- Your vehi cle warranty does not cover any
damages to the veh icle caused by using
r oof racks or mo unt ing structures not
approved by Audi for your vehicle. The
same applies to damage resulting from
i ncorrect roof rack installation. - Always check the roof rack mountings
and hardware before each trip and dur­
ing a trip to make s ure everyth ing is se ­
curely tightened.
If necessary, ret ighten
the mountings and check the entire sys­
tem from time to time.
- After mounting a roof rack system, or
when you transport objects on the roof
of your vehicle, the height of the veh icle
is naturally increased. Be careful when
dr iving unde r low bridges or in parking
garages for example. This cou ld cause
damage to the load and even the vehicle
itself .
- Ma ke sure the open rear lid and the sun­
roo f* do not come into contact with the
roo f rack .
Loading the roof rack
Always distribute loads evenly. Make sure
anything on the roof rack is securely tied
down .

.,. Always attach items to the roof rack secure-
ly before you drive off.
T he maxim um permissible roof weight is
220
lb (100 kg ).
The roof weig ht is the tota l of
the weight of the roof rack, the attachments
and the cargo you are carrying. You must a lso
not exceed the maximum load weight for the
roof rack you are using.
When using a roof rack system which has a
l ower load carrying capacity, you must not use
up the total maxim um permissible load carry­
ing capacity specif ied above. Instead, you
shou ld load the roof rack system only to the
maximum capacity specified by the manufac­
tu rer of the roof rack system .
A WARNING
Weak, damaged o r improper straps used
to secure items to the roof ra ck can fail
d uring h ard braking or in a coll is ion and
cause serious personal inju ry .

ly as specified above

- Always use suitable mounting straps for
securing items to the roof rack to help
prevent items from shifting or flying for­
ward.
- Items on the roof rack must always be securely mounted.
- The use of a roof rack can negative ly af­
fect the way a vehicle handles. Cargo
that is large, heavy, bulky, long or flat
will have a greater negative influence on
the vehicle's aerodynamics, center of
gravity and overall handling. Always dr ive slowly, avo id sudden braking and
maneuvers when transpo rting cargo on
the roof o f your vehicle .
- Never exceed the maximum perm iss ible
load carry ing capacity of t he roof of your
vehicle, the perm issib le axle weights and
the permissible total weight of your vehi­ cle

- Always drive slowly, avoid sudden brak­
ing and maneuvers when transporting
cargo on the roof of your vehicle.
@ For the sake of the environment
Sometimes it may be easier to leave a roof
rack insta lled even though you are not us ­
ing it. Due to the increased air resistance
your vehicle will unnecessari ly use more
fuel. Remove the roof rack if you are not going to use it.

Emergency braking
In the event that the conventional brake sys­
tem fails or locks .
.,. In an emergency, pull the switch(®) and
continue to pull it to slow your vehicle down
with the parking brake .
... As soon as you release the sw itch <®> or ac-
cele rate , the braking process stops.
If you pull the switch <®> and hold it above a
speed of about 5 mph (8 km/h), the emergen­
cy braking function is in itiated . The vehicle is
b raked at all four wheels by activating the hy­
dra ulic bra ke system. The b ra ke performance
i s simi lar to making an emergency stop ¢
A.
In order not to activate the emergency brak­
ing by mistake, an audible wa rning tone (b uz­
z e r) sounds when the switch<®> is pulled. As
soon as the switch(®) is released, or the accel­
erator pedal is depressed , emergency braking
stops .
&_ WARNING
Emergency braking shou ld only be used in
an emergency, when the normal foot brake
has failed or the brake pedal is obstructed.
Using the parking brake to perform emer­
gency braking will slow you r vehicle down
as if you had made a fu ll brake application.
The laws of physics cannot be s uspended
even w ith ESP and its associated compo ­
nents (ABS, ASR, ED L). In corners and
when road or weather conditions are bad,
a full b rake application can cause the vehi­
cle to skid or the rear end to break away -
r isking an accident.
Speed warning system
Introduction
The speed warning system helps you to stay
under a specified maximum speed.
The speed warning system warns you if you
are exceeding the max imum speed that you
have set . You w ill hear a warn ing tone when
your speed exceeds the stored va lue by ap- proximate
ly 3 mph (3 km/h) . An ind icator
light . (USA
models) ;a (Canada models) in
the instr ument cluster d isp lay also turns on at
the same time. The indicator light./.
turns off when the speed decreases be low the
stored maximum speed .
Setting a threshold is recommended if you
would like to be rem inded when you reach a
certain maximum speed. S ituations where you
may wa nt to do so include driv ing in a country
with a general speed limit or if there is a
specified maximum speed for winter tires .
(D Tips
Even though your vehicle is equipped w ith
a speed warn ing system, you should still
watch the speedometer to ma ke sure you
a re not dr iv ing faster than the speed limit.
Setting the threshold
You can set, change and delete the threshold
in the MMI.

You can set any threshold between 20 mph
(30 km/h) and 150 mph (240 km/h) . Sett ings
can each be adjusted in increments of 5 mph
(10 km/h).

The adaptive cruise control system only reacts
to objects that are moving or that the system
has already detected and reg istered as mov ­
ing.

What can adaptive cruise control do?
The adaptive cruise control system uses video,
radar and ultrasound. Moving vehicle ahead
can be recognized up to about 650 feet (200 m) away.
On open roads with no traffic, adaptive cruise
control works like a regular cruise control sys­
tem. The stored speed is maintained. When
approaching a moving vehicle detected up
ahead, the adapt ive cruise control system au­
tomatically slows down to match that vehi­
cle's speed and then maintains the distance
that the driver previo usly stored. As soon as
the system does not detect a vehicle up
ahead, adaptive cruise control accelerates back up to the stored speed.
In stop-and-go traffic, adaptive cruise control
can brake until the vehicle stops if this is pos­
sib le within the systems' limits and capabili­
ties. ACC will not make an emergency stop.

The distance at which the adaptive cruise con­
trol fo llows a vehicle in front is determined by
time intervals. A time interval to a vehicle in
front is established and maintained. This pro­
duces a speed-dependent interval. The higher
the speed, the greater the safety interval in

When approaching a moving vehicle up ahead,
the adaptive cruise control system automati­
cally brakes to match that object's speed and
then maintains the stored distance. When this
happens , the actual d istance may briefly be
less than the stored distance.

also accelerate up to the stored speed. T

time interval of 1.3 seconds.

when traveling at 62 mph (100 km/h), or a
t ime interval of 1.8 seconds.

sponds to a distance of 210 feet/64 meters
when traveling at 62 mph (100 km/h), or a
t ime interval of 2.3 seconds.
Setting the driving program
You can select Dynamic , Standard or Comfort
driving programs. Depending on the selected
driving program and distance, driving behav ­
ior when accelerating wi ll vary from dynamic
to comfortab le.
A WARNING
Following other vehicles too closely in­
creases the risk of collis ions and ser ious
personal injury .
- Sett ing short distances to the traffic
ahead reduces the time and distance
availab le to bring your vehicle to a safe
stop and makes it even more necessary
to pay close attention to traffic .

-Always obey applicable traffic laws, use
good judgment, and select a safe follow­
ing distance for the traffic, road and
weather conditions.
