-Never use the jack s upplied with your
Audi on another vehicle, particularly on a heavier one. The jack is only suitable for
use on the vehicle it came w ith.
- Some of the on board items listed above
are provided on certain mode ls only or
are optiona l extras.
- Before you can raise your vehicle using
the jack, you must activate the jack ing
mode

Space-saving spare tire (compact spare
tire)
The spare tire/wheel is located in the luggage
compartment under the cargo floor cover. It
is intended for short-term use only.
Taking out the sp are tire

Using the spare tire (compact spare tire )
The compact spare tire is only intended for
emergenc ies until you can reach a repair shop.
Replace it as quickly as poss ible with a s tand­
a rd wheel and tire.
There are some restrictions on the use of the
compact spare t ire. Th e compact spare t ire
has been des igned specifically fo r your type of
ve hicle . It must not be swapped with a com­
pact spare ti re from another type of vehicle .
Snow chains
For technica l reasons, the use of snow chains
on the compact spare tire is
not p ermitt ed .
If you do have to dr ive with snow cha ins and a
front tire fails, mo unt the spare wheel w ith
tire instead of a rear t ire. I nstall the snow chains on the rear tire and use it to rep
lace
the defective front tire.
A WARNING
-- Never use the spare t ire if it is damaged
or if it is worn down to the tread wear in­
d icators.
- If the spare tire is more than 6 years old, use it only in an emergency and with ex­
treme caution and careful driv ing.
- The spare tire is intended only for tem­ porary and short-term use. It s hou ld be
replaced as soo n as poss ible with the
normal wheel and tire.
- After mounting t he compact spare tire,
the t ire pressure must be checked as
soon as possible . The tire pressure of the
compact spare t ire must be 4. 2 ba r; oth­
erwise, you risk having an a cc iden t.
- Do not dr ive faste r th an
50 mph (80 km/
h). Yo u ris k having a n accident.
- Avoid full-throttle acceleration, heavy
b rak ing, and fast corne ring. You risk hav­
ing
('I n accident.
- N ever d rive using more than one spa re
wheel and ti re. You r is k having an ac ci­
dent.
- Normal summer or winter t ires must not
be mounted on t he compa ct spare w heel
r im.
- For technica l reasons, the use of tire
ch ain s on the sp are tire is not permitted.
If i t is necessary to drive with tir e c hains,
the spare wheel must be mounted on the
f ront ax le in the event of a flat in a rear
tire. The new ly available front whee l
m ust then be insta lled in place of the
rear whee l w ith the flat tire. Installing
the t ire chain before mounting the whee l
a nd tire is recommended .
- Loose items in the passenger compart­
ment can cause se rious personal injury
du ring hard b rak ing or in a n accident.
Never store the i nflatable spa re tire or
jack and tool s in the passenge r compart­
men t.

You or your passengers cou ld be injured
while changing a whee l if yo u do not fol­
low t hese safety precautions:
- If you have a flat t ire, move a safe dis ­
tance off the road. Tur n off the eng ine,
turn the emergency f lashers on and use
other warning dev ices to alert other mo­
torists.
- Make sure that passengers wait in a safe
place away from the ve hicle and well
away from the road and traff ic.
- To help p revent the vehicle from moving
s u dden ly and possibly slipping off the
jack, always fully set the parking brake
and block the wheel diagonally opposite
the wheel being changed. Whe n one
front wheel is lifted off the ground, plac­ ing the A utomat ic Transm iss ion in P
(Pa rk) will
not p revent the vehicle from
moving.
- Before you change a wheel, be su re the
ground is level and fi rm. If ne cessa ry,
use a st urdy board under the jack.

Changing a wheel
When you change a wheel , follow these­
quence described below s tep-by-s tep and in
exactly that order .
l. Activate the vehicle jack mode*

A wheel change is no t complete without the

que is 90 ft lb (120 Nm) .

- If you notice t hat the wheel bolts are
corroded and difficult to t urn while
changing a t ire, they should be replaced
before you check the tighten ing torque.
- Drive at reduced speed unt il you have the
tightening torques checked .
- After changing a wheel, the tire pressure
i n a ll four tires must be checked/correct­
ed and the tire pressure mon itor ing indi­
cator must be stored in the MMI

Decorative wheel covers

handle of the screwdriver to loosen or
tighten the wheel bolts.
-If a wheel bolt is very tight, you may find
it easier to loos en by carefully pushing
down on the end of the wheel bolt

Raising the vehicle
The vehicle must be lifted with the jack first
before the wheel can be removed.

jack. Otherwise, the vehicle jack could
slip and cause an injury if it does not
have sufficient hold on the vehicle.
-A soft or unstable surface under the
jack may cause the vehicle to slip
off
the jack. Always provide a firm base for
the jack on the ground.
If necessary,
use a sturdy board under the jack.
- On hard, slippery surface (such as tiles)
use a rubber mat or similar to prevent
the jack from slipping.
- To help prevent injury to yourself and
your passengers:
- Do not raise the vehicle until you are
sure the jack is securely engaged.
- Passengers must not remain in the ve­
hicle when it is jacked up.
- Make sure that passengers wait in a safe place away from the vehicle and
well away from the road and traffic.
- Make sure jack position is correct, ad­
just as necessary and then continue to
raise the jack. -
Changes in temperature or load can af­
fect the height of the vehicle.
(D Note
Do not lift the vehicle by the sill. Position
the vehicle jack only at the designated lift­ ing points on the sill. Otherwise, your vehi­
cle will be damaged .

Removing and installing the s ill cover
Applies to vehicles: wit h sill

• To install the cover again, insert it into the
retainers and then swing it upward until it
clicks into place. The cover must be flush
with the sill.

Some models may also have a cover for the
rear vehicle lift point.

Follow these instructions step-by-step for
changing the wheel.

After you have loosened a ll wheel bolts and
ra ised the veh icle off the ground, remove and
replace the wheel as follows:

lower the veh icle until the jack is fully re­
leased .

When removing or installing the whee l,
the rim could hit the brake rotor and dam­
age the rotor. Work carefu lly and have a
second person help you.

Neve r use the hexagonal socket in the han ­
dle of the screwdriver to loosen or tighten
the w heel bo lts.
- Pull the reversible blade from the screw­
dr iver before you use the hexagonal
socket in the hand le to turn the wheel
bolts.
- When mount ing tires w ith
unidi rectional
tread design
make sure the tread pat­
tern is po inted the right way
~page 280.
-The wheel bo lts shou ld be clean and easy
to turn. Check for dirt and corrosion on
the mating surfaces of both the wheel
and the hub. Remove all d irt from these
surfaces before remounting the whee l.

Tires with unidirectional tread design
Tires with unidirectional tread design must be
mounted with their tread pattern pointed in the right direction .
Using a sp are t ire wi th a tread pattern
int ended fo r use in a specific dir ect ion
When us ing a spare tire w ith a tread patte rn
intended for use in a specific direction, please
note the following:
- The direction of rotation is marked by an ar­
row on the side of the tire.
- If the spare t ire has to be installed in the in­
correct direction, use the spare tire only
temporarily since the t ire will not be able to
achieve its optimum performance character­
ist ics with rega rd to aquaplaning, noise and
wea r.
- We recommend that you pay particular at­
tent ion to this fact du ring wet weather and
that you adjust your speed to matc h road
conditions.
- Replace the flat tire w ith a new one and
have it installed on your vehicle as soon as
possible to restore the handling advantages
of a unidirectiona l tire .
Notes on wheel changing
Please read the information c> page 260 , New
t ires and replacing tires and wheels
if you are
going to use a spare tire which is different
from the tires on your vehicle .
After you change a tire :
-Che ck the tire p re ssure on the sp are imme ­
di ately afte r in st a llat ion.
- Ha ve th e wh eel b olt tightenin g torque
che ck e d w ith a torque wrench as soon a s
possible b y you r autho rized Aud i de aler o r
a qu alified ser vice station .
- With ste el and alloy wheel rims , the wheel
bolts are cor rectl y tightened at a torque of
90 ft lb (1 20 Nm ).
- If yo u notice that the wheel bolt s are cor­
r oded a nd d iffi cult to tu rn while changi ng
a t ire, the y should be replaced before you
check the t ightening torq ue. -
Re pl ac e the flat ti re with a new one and
h av e it in st a lled on you r vehicle as soon as
po ssible. Remount th e wheel cov er.

A WARNING
-
- If you are going to equ ip your vehicle
with tires or rims which differ from those
which were factory installed, then be
sure to read the information

New tires and replacing tires and
wheels .
-Always make sure the damaged wheel or
even a flat tire and the jack and tool kit
are properly secured in the luggage com­
pa rtment and are not loose in the pas­
senger compartment.
- I n an accident or sudden maneuver they
could fly forwa rd, injuring anyone in the
veh icle.
- Always sto re damaged wheel, jack and
too ls securely in the luggage compart­
ment. Otherwise, in an accident or su d­
den maneuve r they could f ly forward,
causing injury to passengers in the ve hi­
cle.

• Press inward strongly on the left side of the
cap to remove it from the bumper

• Screw the towing loop tightly in the thread­
ed hole as far as it will go and tighten it with
the wheel wrench¢

Remove the towing loop when you are done
using it and place it back in the vehicle tool
kit . Install the cover in the bumper. Always
keep the towing loop in the vehicle.
A WARNING
If you do not screw the tow ing loop com­
pletely, it could come out of the threaded
hole while the vehicle is being towed caus­
ing damage to the vehicle and possible se ­
rious personal injury.
Rear towing loop
Only install the rear towing loop when it is
needed.

There are threads located behind the right
side of the rear bumper where a towing loop
can be installed . The threads are located be ­
hind a cover.
-
• Remove the towing loop from the vehicle
tool kit.
• Press inward strong ly to the button side of
the cap to remove it from the bumpe r

• Screw the towing loop tightly in the thread ­
ed hole as far as it will go and tighten it with
the wheel wrench

Remove the towing loop when you are done
using it and place it back in the vehicle tool
kit. Always keep the towing loop in the vehi­
cle.
A WARNING
If you do not screw the towing loop com­
p letely, it could come out of the threaded
hole while the vehicle is be ing towed caus­
ing damage to the vehicle and possible se­
rious personal injury.

Safety compliance sticker
The safety compliance sticker is your assur­
ance that your new veh icle complies with all
applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety
Standards which were in effect at the time the
vehicle was manufactured . You can find this
sticker on the door jamb on the driver's side. It shows the month and year of production
and the vehicle ident ification number of your
vehicle (perforation) as well as the Gross Vehi­
cle Weight Rating (GVWR) and the Gross Axle
Weight Rating (GAWR) .
High voltage warning label
The high voltage warning label is located in
the engine compartment next to the engine hood release. The spark ignition system com­
plies with the Canadian standard ICES-002 .
Weights
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating
The Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), and
the Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) for
front and rear are listed on a sticker on the
door jamb on the driver's s ide.
The Gross Vehicle Weight Rating includes the
weight of the basic vehicle plus full fuel tank,
oil and coolant, plus maximum load, which in ­
cludes passenger we ight (150 lbs/68 kg per

complexity of today's automobi les, have
steadi ly reduced the scope of maintenance
and repairs which can be carried out by vehicle
owners.

miss io n pa rts which an owner can perform .

Never reach into the area around or
touch the rad iator fan. It is temperature
contro lled and can switch on suddenly -
even when the engine is
off . The radiator
fan switches on automat ica lly when the
coo lant reaches a certai n tempe rature
and will cont inue to run until the coo lan t
temper ature drops.
- Always sw itch
off the ignition before any­
one gets under the vehicle.
- Always support your veh icle with safety
stands if it is necessary to work under­
neath the vehicle . The j ack s upplied with
the vehicle is not adequate for this pur­
pose and cou ld collapse causing serio us
personal i njury .
- I f you must work unde rneath the vehicle
with the wheels on t he g round , a lways
make sure the vehicle is on leve l ground,
that the wheels are a lways securely
blocked and that the engine cannot be
started.
