Driver information display
Battery voltage ~
If the battery's state of charge is not in the optimal range, the
symbol is shown in the display and the driver message
Low battery
charge: battery will be charged while driving
appears.
While this driver notification is displayed, you have to be prepared
for limited starting capability.
Driver message appears and goes out again
If this driver message appears after the ignition is turned on or
while driving and it goes out again after a while, the battery has
been adequately recharged.
Driver message appears and does not go out again
If this driver notification appears after the ignition is turned on or
while driving and does not go out again, the battery's state of
charge is not in the optimal range. Starting capability is restricted.
Have the battery checked at a dealership as soon as possible.•

Key not in vehicle
This message appears together with the symbol when the
remote control key is removed from the vehicle while the engine is
running. This is to remind you that you should not continue your trip
without your key.
If the remote control key is no longer in the vehicle, you will not be
able to start the engine again after you have switched off the igni
tion. In addition to this, you will not be able to lock the vehicle from
the outside. •

Adaptive Light defective== ~

When this symbol L illuminates, it means that Adaptive Light is
defective. Go to an authorized dealership to have the headlights or
the control unit for the Adaptive Light repaired. •

If the symbol illuminates, the dynamic headlight range control is no
longe r working properly. Have the system checked and repaired at
your Audi dealer. •
Defective light /rain sensor jf:>
.... Automatic headlights/automatic wipers defective
If the symbol illuminates, the light/rain sensor has failed. For safety
reasons the low beams are turned on permanently with the switch
in
AUTO. However , you can continue to turn the lights on and off
using the light switch. If the rain sensor fails, the functions of the
windshield wiper lever will still work. Contact your authorized Audi
dealer as soon as possible to have the problem corrected. •

You can centrally lock and unlock your vehicle and start the engine
with the mas ter key with remote control.
@ Valet k ey
The va le t key fits only the driver's door and the ignition lock . If you
have to leave the key with somebody else, you are well -advised to
t urn over the valet key only .
Be aware that the rear lid can be opened from inside the veh ic le with
the remote rea r lid release located in the driver's door . Before you
turn over the valet key you shou ld therefore lock the rear lid
mechanica lly with the master key .
T ur n th e mas ter key
clo ckwi se to the hori zontal positi on and pull it
out. This has two effects:
• the
remote rear lid release i s deactivated ,
• the lid will remain l ocked when the power locking system is actu
ated .

The emergency key is only for temporary use if the vehicle key
should be lost or misp laced

If you lose a key , contact your authorized Audi dea ler immediately

Jost key disabled . Be sure to bring all your keys with you.

• I f you open the driver 's door wi th the key left in the ignit ion lock,
a chime w ill sound . T his is your reminder to remove the key and lock
the door .
• For security reasons, replacement keys are only available from
Audi deale rs. •

Battery operation in the master key is monitored by a check light .
The check light flashes when one of the buttons on the master key
is pressed . If the check light does not flash, the battery is dead and
has to be replaced .
In addition, when the battery is dead the symbol appears in the
instrument cluster display as well as the message :
Please ch ange key battery
We recommend having the battery changed by an Audi Dealer .•
Electronic immobilizer
T he immob ili z er helps to prevent unauthorized use of
y o ur vehicle.
A computer chip inside your key automatically deactivates the e lec
tr onic im mob ilizer when you insert the key in the ign iti on lock, or on
vehic les with Convenience key*, when the key is inside the vehicle .
When you remove the key from the ignition lock, or on vehicles with
Convenience key, when you remove the key from the vehicle, the
e lectronic immobilizer is automatica lly activated once again.
If an unauthor ized key was used,
SAFE is disp layed continuously in
the odometer disp lay field.
& WARNING
Always take the key w ith you when you leave the vehicle. The key
c an disarm the electronic engine immob ilizer and permit an unau
thori zed person to start the engine and enable oper atio n of the
vehicle sy stem s such a s power window or power sunroof leading
to s eriou s personal injury .

• Your engine can on ly be started using the factory-equipped key.

Power locking system
General description
T he power locking system locks or unlocks all doors and
the rear lid simultaneousl y.
The power loc kin g system in your veh ic le incorporates the following
functions:
• Central locking function
• Selective unlock feature=>
page 52
• Remo te contro l fea ture => page 48
• Convenience key*=> page 58
• Ant i-theft a larm system => page 60
All the doors and the rear lid are locked by the central locking
system when you lock the v ehicle. You can set whether general ly
only the driver's door or all doors and the rear lid should be
unlocked when you open t he vehic le in the MM I menu

Unlocking the vehicle
You can un lock the vehic le from outside either by using the remote
co ntrol
or by tur ning the key i nside the driver's door lock. When you
unlo ck your vehic le:
• The anti -theft ala rm system is deactivated briefly .
• The vehicle interior lights i lluminate for approximately 30
sec ond s.
• All turn signal lights wi ll flash twice when the car is unlocked. .,,_

PANIC Button
- Push the red button @to ac tivate the panic function . The
horn sounds and the turn signals flash.
- P ush the button @again to deact ivate the panic func-
t ion.
On vehicles equ ipped with the Convenience key* features, the
selector lever must be in the P position, otherwise the vehicle will
not lock .

[ i ] Tips
• In order to make sure the locking function is working, you should
always keep your eye on the vehicle to make sure it is proper ly
locked.
• Do not use the remote control if you are inside the car, otherwise
you may unintent iona lly lock the vehicle , and then you would set off
the anti -theft alarm when you try to start the engine or open a door.
In case this happens anyhow, push the un lock button

• Use the panic function only if you are in an emergency

- To swit ch on the child safe ty lock, turn the ignition key in
the direction of the ar row.
- To
switch off the child safety lock, turn the ignition key in
the opposite d irection to the arrow.
The child safety lock prevents the doors from being opened from the
inside when you have smal l children sitting in the rear. •

Press the left an d/or rig ht safety button to d isable t he
rear powe r window(s) and prevent the respective rear
door from being o pened from the inside . The LED in the
button wil l light up when the child safety lock is turned
on .

When the ch ild safety lock is activated, the interior door opening
lever is inoperative; the door can only be opened from th e outside.
I n addi tion, the wi ndow regu lator for that door is a ls o inoperative
when the child safe ty lock is activated .
I f the ch ild safety lock has been act ivated on both the left
a nd right
side , then the fol lowing features are swi tched off: the buttons for
the interio r lights, the sun b lind * in the rear window and the buttons
f or the power sun blinds* in the s ide windows. In addition to this ,
the rear cl imate control* is set to the PASSIVE mode. T his means
that the cl imate co ntrols in the front adjust the hea ting and ventila
tion in the rear of the vehicle~

[ i ] Tip s
• In order to activate the child safety lock on the left and the right
side, you have to press the two safety bu ttons in succession.
• Make certain that the indicator light in the corresponding safety
bu tton illuminates when the child safety lock is activated .•
Convenience key
Ap plies t o ve hicles : with C onv eni enc e ke y
Description
Opening your vehicle and starting the engine with the key
still i n yo ur pocket.
The Convenience key features is a keyless system which gives you
the possibility to lock and un lock your veh ic le , as well as to start the
engine without having to use your key.
It does not matter if you have your key in your jacket pocket or in
your briefcase . As soon as you get w ithin a cer tain distance to the ..,_

vehicle, the system senses that your are approaching, it makes a
quick check to see if you are "authori zed" and then i t does the
following :
• unlocks the vehicle ~
page 59 .
• locks the vehicle~ page 60.
• switches on the ignition and starts the engine when y ou press
the [ START] button . You do not have to insert your key into the igni
t ion lock ~
page 131.
& WARNING
• When you lock your vehi cle from out side , nobody -especially
c hildr en -sh ould rem ain in side the vehi cle . Rem emb er, w hen you
lock the vehicle fr om the outside the window s cannot be opened
from the in side .
• When you leave the vehicle , alwa ys remove the ignition key and
t a ke it wi th yo u. Thi s w ill prevent pa ss engers (children , for
example ) fro m acciden tally bein g locked in the vehicle should they
ac cid entally pr ess the p ower lock ing switch in the doo rs.
• Do not leave children in side the vehicl e un sup ervised. In an
eme rg ency it would be i mpo ssible to ope n th e door s from th e
o ut side wi thout the ke y.
[ i ) Tips
• For the Convenience key to properly work, you must always have
your vehic le key with you .
• The vehicle will lock or unlock the doors only if an authorized key
comes within 5 ft 11.5 meters) from one of the vehicle doors or the
rear lid.
• You can still lock or unlock your vehic le using the remote control
key buttons, however the se lector lever must in the P position .

Unlocking the vehicle
Y ou can unlock the doors and rear lid without using the
remote control .

- Grab the door hand le . The door automat ica lly un locks.
P ull the doo r handle to o pen the doo r.
A door will unlock as you approach a door handle and the system
senses that you have an authorized key . This applies to each door on
t he vehicle . The authorized key on ly has to be within a range of
about 5 feet 11 .5 meters) from the respective door .
Whenever you un lock a door, the driver's door a lso un locks . Yo u can
set the power lock system using the me nu in the
MMI system, for
examp le, if you want to unlock just one specific door , or all the
veh ic le doors
~ page 52 .
[ i ) Tips
If you r vehic le has been standing f or an extended pe riod, p lease
note the following:
• To conserve battery power, the sensor will turn off after a few
days. When you come back, you will have to pull on the door hand le
once to un lock the door and then a second time to open the door .

How is the anti-theft alarm system switched off?
The anti-theft alarm system is switched off only when you unlock
your vehicle. If you do not open a door within 60 seconds after you have unlocked with the remote control, the vehicle will lock itself
again automatically.
When will the anti-theft alarm system be triggered?
When the vehicle is locked, the alarm system monitors and protects
the follow ing parts of the vehicle:
• engine compartment
• luggage compartment
• doors
• ignition
When the system is activated, the alarm will be triggered if one of
the doors, the engine hood or the rear lid are opened, or if the igni
tion is turned on. The anti-theft alarm system will also go off when
the battery is disconnected.
Unlocking the rear lid by inser ting and turning the key inside the
rear lid locking cylinder will trigger the optical and acoustic alarm .
You can also trigger the alarm by pressing the PANIC button on your
remote control. This will a lert other people in case of emergency .
Press the
PANIC button again to turn off the alarm.
How is the anti -theft alarm switched off when
triggered?
The alarm system is switched off when you unlock the vehicle or
when the ignition is switched on. The alarm will a lso switch itself off
when it comes to the end of its cycle .
Emergency flasher and horn
The emergency flasher will blink briefly and the horn sounds when
the doors, engine hood and rear lid are properly closed.
If the emergency flashers do not b link , or the horn does not sound,
check the doors, engine hood and rear lid to make sure they are
properly closed . If you close a door, the hood or the rear lid with the

anti-theft alarm switched on, the emergency flashers will blink and
the horn will sound only a fter you have closed the door or lid .
[ i ] Tips
For the anti-theft alarm system to function properly, make sure all
vehicle doors and windows are closed before leaving the vehicle .•

Switches for front door windows
@ operates the window in the driver's door.

& WARNING
• Do not leave children unattended in the vehicle, especially with
access to vehicle keys. Unsupervised use of the keys can result in
starting of the engine and use of vehicle systems such as power
windows, etc. which could result in serious injury.
• Remember -you can still open or close the power windows for
about ten minutes after the ignition is switched off. Only when
either of the front doors are opened are the power windows
switched off.
• Be careful when closing the windows. Check to see that no one
is in the way, or serious injury could result!
• Always remove the ignition key whenever you leave your
vehicle.
• If you lock your vehicle from the outside, no one, especially chil
dren, should remain in the vehicle.
• Do not stick anything on the windows or the windshield that
may interfere with the driver's field of vision.

Switches in the driver's door
The driver can operate all windows.
If the respective switch is pushed or pulled the window will
open or close. The power window switches have a
two-posi
tion function:
Opening the windows
- Push the switch to the first stop and hold it there until the
window has lowered to the desired position.
- Push the switch briefly to the
second stop: the window
will automatically open all the way.
Closing the windows
-Pull the switch up to the first stop and hold it there until
the window has risen to the desired position.
- Pull the switch quickly to the
second position: the
window will automatically close all the way=>

Activating/deactivating rear windows
- Push the switch ®=> page 61, fig. 48 to the depressed
position to activate the rear windows - the light in the
switch will go out.
- Briefly press the switch ® to
deactivate the rear
windows - the switch will return to the safety position
and the light
I will illuminate.

-In position @, briefly press the control to tilt the roof up
completely.
- To tilt the roof open to any intermediate position press
and hold the switch until the roof reaches the desired
position.
Sliding the roof open
- Turn the switch to position (D to open the roof all the
way.
- Turn the switch to any other position to open the roof to
any intermediate position.
When the glass roof opens, the sun visor, which is designed to ward
off strong sunlight, opens along with it. The visor can be closed
manually when the sunroof is closed.
[ i J Tips
• Be aware that the sunroof may actually be open when the sun
visor is closed. Check and make sure that the sunroof is shut when
parking the car or if it suddenly starts raining.
• If the sunroof is not fully closed but you have pressed and held
the switch for the tilt position, the sunroof will not tilt. •
Closing the power sunroof
Sliding the roof shut
- Turn the rotary switch to position®=> page 65, fig. 53

Tilting the roof shut
-Briefly pull the rotary switch to close the roof. -
To tilt the roof down to any intermediate position pull and
hold the switch until the roof reaches the desired posi
tion.
& WARNING
Improper use of the power sunroof can cause serious personal
injury.
• Be careful when closing the power sunroof. Not paying atten
tion could cause you or others to be trapped and injured as the
roof closes.
• Always take the key with you when you leave the vehicle to
prevent injuries caused by the roof closing.
• Never leave children or persons requiring assistance alone in
the vehicle, especially when they could access the vehicle keys. Unsupervised use of the keys can result in the engine being
started or use of vehicle systems such as the power windows, etc.
which could result in serious injury. The doors could be locked
with the remote key, delaying help in an emergency.
• The power sunroof will continue to operate until the ignition
key has been removed and one of the front doors has been
opened. •
Power emergency closing
The sunroof can still be closed electrically if for some
reason the overload protection function becomes acti
vated.
The power sunroof is equipped with an overload protection
feature. If, under normal conditions, the power sunroof will
not close, you can close it using this feature.

- Now pull the switch and hold it in this position until the
power sunroof closes completely.
& WARNING

The sunroof can be closed by hand in case of a power
failure.

vehicle tool kit) at the rear edge of the lens as indicated
