40 Opening and closing
Valet parking
The valet parking feature protects the lug­
gage comportment from unauthorized ac­
cess .

for parking and keep the mechanical
key with you .
When the "valet parking" feature is activated :
- the u nlocking button for the rear lid
c:5 in
the driver's door is inactive
- the butt on
c:5 on the master key is inac tive
- the opening hand le in the rear lid is inactive.
The vehicle can be driven and locked and un­ locked w ith the master key. Access to the lug­
gage compartment is blocked.
When the valet parking function is switched
on, the message
Valet parking activated ap­
pears in the instrument cluster display when
you switch the ign it ion on .

A wind deflector integrated into the sliding/
t il ting sunroof adapts automatically to the
speed and sunroof pos ition . This reduces wind
noise to a m inimum in all sunroof positions .
You can still close or open the sunroof for up
to ten minutes after you have switched the ig­
nition off . The switch is deact ivated once the
driver's or front passenger's door is opened.
Solar protection
The solar protection opens automatically
when the sunroof opens.

Vehicles with a glass panel sunroof: the sun
shade can be opened and closed by hand
when the sunroof is closed.
Vehicles w ith a so lar panel s unroof*: the
closed sunshade opens automatica lly when
the sunroof opens.
A WARNING
Pay careful attention when closing the
sliding/tilting sunroof - otherwise serious

Emergency closing of the sliding/tilting
sunroof
If th e sun roof detects an object in its path
when it is closing, it will open again automati­
cally. In this case, you can close the roof with
the power emergency closing function.

Tilting the rear segment of the roof
The rear segment of the roof can be operated
both from the cockpit and from the rear seat.

After the ignit ion is switched off, you can st ill
ope rate the panoramic sun roof for about
10
minutes . The switch is deactivated once the
driver's or front passenger's door is opened .

Be careful when closing the panoramic
sunroof - otherwise serious injury could re­
sult! For this reason, always remove the ig­
nition key when leaving the vehicle.

Always close your panoramic sunroof when

Roof segment/sun shade emergency
closing
Applies to vehicles: with panoramic sunroof
If the roof segment or sun shade detects an
object in its path when it is closing, it will
open again automatically . In this case, you
can then close it with the power emergency
closing function.
,. Within five seconds after the roof segment
or sun shade opens automatica lly, pull the
switch until it closes.

7 4 Warm and cold
Warm and cold Climate controls
Description
The climate control system warms, cools and
adds humidity to the air in the vehicle interior.
It is the most effect ive when the windows and
sunroof* are closed . If the temperature inside
the parked vehicle becomes very warm, open­ ing the window briefly will speed up the cool­
ing process.
I n all heating mode functions except
defrost,
the blower on ly switches to a higher speed
once the engine coolant has reached a certain
temperature.
Condensation from the cooling system can
drip and form a puddle of water under the ve­
hicle. This is normal and does not mean there
is a leak.
Pollutant filter
The pollutant filter removes pollutants such
as dust and po llen from the air.
The air pollutants filter must be changed at
the intervals spec ified in you r Warranty
&
Maintenance booklet, so that the air condi­
tioner can properly work.
I f you drive your vehicle in an a rea with high
a ir po llution, the filter may need to be
changed more frequent ly than specified in
your Aud i Warranty
& Maintenance booklet. If
in doubt, ask your authorized Audi Service Ad­
visor for advice .
Key coded settings
The climate control settings are a utomat ically
stored and assigned to the remote control key
that is in use.
A WARNING
Reduced visibility is dangerous and can
cause accidents. -
- For safe driving it is very important that
all windows be free of ice, snow and con­
densation.
- Comp letely familiarize yourself with the
proper use and function of the heating
and ventilation system and especially how to defog and defrost the windows.
- Never use the windshield wiper/washer
system in freez ing weather unt il you
have warmed the windshield first, using
the heating and ventilation system. The
washer solution may freeze on the wind­ sh ie ld and reduce visib ility.

- If you suspect that the air conditioner has been damaged, switch the system
off to avoid further damage and have it
inspected by a qualified dealership.
- Repairs to the Audi air conditioner re­
quire special technical knowledge and
special tools. Contact an authorized Aud i
dea ler fo r assistance.
@ For the sake of the environment
By reducing the amount of fuel you use,
you also reduce the amount of pollutants
emitted into the air.
(D Tips
- Keep the air intake s lots (in fro nt of the
w indshield) free from ice, snow and de ­
bris in order to maintain the proper func­
tion of the climate control system.
- T he energy management system may
switch the seat heating* or rear window
defroster off temporari Ly . These systems
are available again as soon as the energy
balance has been restored.
- Air escapes through vents under the rear
window. When placing items of clothing on the luggage compartment cover, en­
sure that the openings are not covered.

A pp lies to veh icles: with Audi pre se nse
Aud i pre sense can ini tia te steps to help pro­
t ect veh icle occupants in certain situa tions.
The funct ions described depend on equ ipment
installed in your vehicle:
Audi pre sense basic
The following functions can be triggered in
certain driv ing situations :
- Tightening of the safety belts (for examp le,
during heavy braking) : the front safety belts
have reversible belt pretensioners. If a colli­
sion does not occur, the safety belts loosen
s lightly and are ready to be tightened again .
- Closing the w indows and the sunroof* : the
windows and the sunroof* close leaving a
small open gap .
Audi pre sense basic functions can be trig­
gered at speeds above 20 mph (30 km/h).
Vehicles with Aud i drive select*: the dep loy­
ment time is adapted in dynamic mode.
Audi pre sense front (vehicles with
adaptive cruise control*)
Audi pre sense front includes the functions in
Audi pre sense basic. In addition, within the
limits of the system, the likelihood of a colli ­
sion with the vehicle immediately ahead is al­
so ca lculated . If the system senses an immi­
nent collision the follow ing functions can be
tr iggered :

Audi pre sense rear (vehicles with Audi
side assist*)
Audi p re sense rear includes the functions in
Audi pre sense basic. In addition, the likeli ­
hood of a rear -end collis ion with the vehicle
coming from behind is also calc ulated.
If the risk
of a co llision is detected, the following
functions can be triggered :
- Tig htening the safety belts
- Closing the windows and the sunroof* (leav-
ing a small open gap)
- Adjusting the seats : the settings for the
power head restrains, the upper sections of
t he backrests and the pneumatic side bol­
s ters* are optim ized for the front seats and
the outboard rea r seats*. If a collision does
not occur, the previo us seat settings are re­
stored.
Audi pre sense plus
Audi pre sense plus includes the funct ions in
A udi pre sense front and Audi pre sense rea r.
Error message
Audi pre sense: not available
Preventative passenger protection is not avail­
able. See your authorized Audi dealer immedi­
ately to have the malfunction corrected .
A WARNING
-Audi pre sense cannot overcome the laws
of physics.
It cannot prevent a collision. Do
not let the increased safety provided
tempt you to take risks. This will increase
the r isk o f a coll is ion and serio us personal
injuries.
- The sensors cannot always detect all ob­
jects . This increases the risk of a colli ­
sion.
- Aud i p re sense does not detect peop le or
animals or objects that are crossing the
vehicle's path

-The radar sensor's vis ion can be reduced
by heavy rain, ice, snow, heavy road spray
and reflections from guard rails, tunnel
entrances, etc. These and similar condi­
tions can prevent vehicles from be ing ac­
curately detected and in some cases they
may not be detected at all.
