Inthispositiontheenginestarts.Whilethe
engineisstarting,thepowersupplytothe
headlightsandotherelectricalconsumersis
temporarilyinterruptedtoconservebattery
power. Aftertheenginehasstarted,reLease
thekeyanditwillreturntopositionCD,
Beforethestartercanbeoperatedagainthe
[email protected]
non-repeatlockpreventsyou fromdamaging
thestarterwhentheengineisrunning.

- Never
removethekeyfromtheignition

greatlyincreasestheabilityofthesupplemen­
talairbagstodotheirjobinacollision. For

reason,wearingasafetybeltis legally re­

theUnitedStatesandCanada.
Although
yourAudiisequippedwithairbags,
you still have
towearthesafetybeltsprovid­
ed. Front
airbags,forexample,areactivated
onlyinsomefrontalcollisions. Thefrontair­
bagsarenotactivatedinallfrontalcollisions,
insideandrearcollisions,inrolloversorin
caseswherethereisnotenoughdeceleration
throughimpacttothefrontofthevehicle.

Iftheairbagindicatorlightcomeson,it
meansthattheremaybesomething
wrong withtheAdvanced AirbagSystem.
TheAdvanced AirbagSystem(includingthe
electroniccontrolunit,sensorcircuitsandsys­
temwiring)ismonitoredcontinuouslyto
makesurethatitisfunctioningproperly
whenevertheignitionison.Eachtimeyou
turnontheignition,theairbagmonitoringin­
dicatorlight1willcomeonforafewseconds
(selfdiagnostics).
ThesystemmustbeinspectedwhentheindicatorIight1:
-doesnotcomeonwhentheignitionis
switchedon,
-doesnotgooutafewsecondsafteryou
have
switchedontheignition,or
-comeson while driving.
Ifanairbagsystemmalfunctionisdetected
theindicatorlightwillfirststartflashingto'
catchthedriver'sattentionandthenstayon
continuouslytoserveasaconstantreminder
tohavethesysteminspectedimmediately.
Ifamalfunctionoceursthatturnsthefront
airbagonthepassengersideoff,thePASSEN­
GERAIRBAGOFFlightwillcomeonandstay
onwhenevertheignitionison.

installrear-facing childsafety
seatsorinfantcarriersontherearseat.
-Forward-facing childsafetyseatsinstal­
ledonthefrontpassenger'sseatcan in­
terferewiththeairbagwhenitinflates
andcauseseriousinjurytothechild.Al­
waysinstallforward-facingchildsafety
seatsontherearseat.
-Ifexceptionalcircumstancesrequirethe
useofaforward-facingchildrestrainton
thefrontpassenger'sseat,thechild's
safetyandwell-beingrequirethatthe
followingspecialprecautionsbetaken:
-Makesuretheforward-facingseathas
beendesignedandcertified byitsman­
ufacturerforuseon afrontseatwitha
passengerfrontandsideairbag.
_Always carefully followthemanufac­
turer'sinstructionsprovidedwiththe
childsafetyseatorcarrier.
_ Always move
thefrontpassengerseat

fullycontacttheflatportionofthe
seatcushion. Thechildrestraintmust
nottiporLeantoeitherside.Audidoes
notrecommendusing childsafety
seatsthatrestonlegsortube-Like
frames.Theydonotprovideadequate
contactwiththeseat.
-Alwaysheedalllegalrequirementsper­
tainingtotheinstallationanduseof
childsafetyseatsandcarefully follow
