{i§l) Anti-lock brake system
This warning/indicator light monitors the ABS
and the electronic differential lock (EDL) .
The warning/indicator light & (USA mod­
els)
;tlJ (Canada models) will come on for a
few seconds when the ignition is switched on .
The l ight will go out after an automatic check
sequence is completed.
There is a malfunction in the ABS when:
-The warning/indicator light does not illumi­
nate when you switch the ign ition on .
- The warning/indicator light does not go out
after a few seconds .
- The warning/indicator light illuminates wh ile driving.
The ESC indicator light also illuminates if
there is a malfunction in the ABS . The mes­
sage
Stabilization program and ABS: fault!
See owner's manual
also appears in the in­
strument cluster display and a warning tone
sounds .
The brake system will still respond even
without the assistance of the ABS system.
See your authorized Audi dealer as soon as
possible to restore full braking performance.

Malfunction in the brake system
If the brake warning light¢ page 14 and the
ABS warning illuminate
together there may be
a malfunction in the ABS, and there may also
be a ma lfunction in the brake system itself
¢ ,&.. The ABS will not work and you will no­
tice a change in braking response and per­
formance.
In the event of a malfunction in the brake
system

Malfunction in the electronic differential
lock (EDL)
The EDL works together with the ABS. The
ABS warning light will come on if there is a malfunction in the
EDL system

See your authorized Audi dealer as soon as
possible.
A WARNING

- If the E (USA mode ls)l ii] (Canada
models) warning light does not go out,
or if it comes on whi le driving, the ABS
system is not work ing properly . The vehi­
cle can then be stopped only with the
standard brakes (without ABS). You w ill
not have the protection ABS provides.
Contact your Audi dea ler as soon as pos­
sible.
- USA models: If the 1111 warning ligh t,
the
J;.J warning light and the & warn­
ing light come on together, the rear
wheels could lock up first under hard
brak ing. Rear wheel lock-up can cause
loss of vehicle control and an accident.
Have your vehicle repaired immediately
by your authorized Audi dealer or a quali­
fied workshop. Dr ive slow ly and avoid
sudden, hard brake applications.
- Canada models: If the brake warning
light ., the
DJ warning light and the
ABS warning light
[( Gi a come on together,
the rear wheels could lock up first under
hard braking. Rear wheel lock-up can
cause loss of vehicle contro l and an acci­
dent . Have your vehicle repaired immedi­
ately by your authorized Audi dealer or a
qualified workshop. Drive s lowly and
avoid sudden, hard brake applications.
{0) Worn brake pads
EtJ Check brake pads!
If the warning light i lluminates, immediate ly
contact your authori zed Audi dealer or quali­
fied workshop to have all brake pads inspect­
ed . On USA models the warn ing light
EtJ
comes on together with the warning light

must always be replaced at the same time.

EPC Electronic power control
This warning/indicator light monitors the
electronic power control.
The ~ warn ing/ indicator light (Electron ic
Power Control) illuminates when you switch
on the ignition as a function check .

If this warning/indicator light illuminates
while you are dr iving, then there is a mal­
function in the engine elect ron ics. Have
t he malfunction co rrected as soon as pos­
sible by you r autho rized Aud i dea ler o r
qualif ied workshop .
~ Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is part
of the On-Board Diagnostic (OBD II) system.
The symbol
l\l lights up when the ignition is
turned on and will turn off after the engine
h as started and has settled at constant idle
speed . Th is ind icates that the MIL is working
properly .
The warning light illuminates when there is a
malfunct ion i n the engine electronic system.
Contact your author ized Audi dealer and have
the ma lfunction corrected.

engine contro l ma lf u nction . The indicator
li ght ~ in the instrume nt cl uster a lso illumi­
na tes. The engi ne speed is l imited to the
speed displayed in the driver in format ion sys­
tem. Keep in mind that the engine speed wi ll
not exceed the val ue disp layed in the driver in­
format ion system, for example when down­
shifting.
P lease go to an au thorized A udi dealer or oth ­
er qualified wo rkshop to have the malfunctio n
repaired.

If the II symbo l comes on, add 1 quart ( 1 li­
ter) of oil at the next opportunity

sage appears, there may be limited starting
ability.
If this message turns off afte r a little while,
the battery charged enough while d rivi ng .
If the message does not turn off, have yo ur
authorized Aud i dea ler or qualified workshop
correct the malfunction .

Bi) Fuel supply too low
When the (g symbol illuminates, this means
there are about 1.9 gallons (7 liters) of fuel
left in the fuel tank. Time to refuel!

ample fuel in the tank, and the text

® Defective light bulb warning
The defective light bulb warning tells you
when a vehicle light bulb has become defec­
tive.
If a defect ive bulb has been detected by the
system or a light bu lb burns out, the
fsl sym­
bol with a message appears in the disp lay to
tell you wh ich bu lb is burnt out and where it is
l ocated. For example:
Rear left turn signal
After 5 seconds, the message disappears. If
you want to recall the message into the dis­
p lay, press the CH ECK button

There are three reasons why the defective
bulb message would appear in the display:
- The light bulb has burnt out

- The fuse is "blown" Q page 228, Replacing
fuses.
- The wire connection to the light bu lb is de-
fective.
H ave the bu lb rep laced or the connection re­
pa ired by your a uthorized Audi Service depart­
ment.
A WARNING
- Light bulbs are pressurized and could ex­
plode wh ile they are being changed caus­
ing serious pe rsonal injury.
- Work with due care when handling the
h igh-voltage sect ion of gas discharge
(xenon) lamps. Fa iling to do so could re­
sult in death or serious injury!
BRAKE LIGHT t<® > Brake light defective
In case of a ma lfunction or component fail-
ure, the symbo l (USA models)/
(@ ll ing electrical components should be checked,
repaired or replaced, as necessary:
- Brake light bulbs
- All wir ing connections
- Brake light switch
Contact your authorized Audi dea ler for assis­
tance if necessary.
(D Tips
The brake light sw itch is on ly inspected as
part of the functional check after the en­
gine is started.
i,0 Headlight range control defective
Applies to vehicles: wit h dynamic headlight range adjust­
ment
If the II illuminates, the dynamic headlight
range control is no longer working properly.
Have the system checked and repaired at your
authorized Audi dealer .
rsO Adaptive light defective
Applies to vehicles: with Ada ptive Lig ht
rm Adaptive light defective
When this symbol rm illuminates, it means
that Adaptive Light is defect ive. Go to a qua li­
fied workshop to have the headlights or the
control unit for the Adaptive Light repaired.

@:> Light/rain sensor defective
Applies to vehicles: with a utomat ic head lights
The indicator light indicates a defect in the
automatic headlights/automatic wiper sys­
tem .
If the symbol illuminates, the light sensor has
failed . For safety reasons, the low beams are
turned on permanently with the switch in
A U­
TO . However , you can continue to turn the
lights on and off using the light switch . In the
case of a defect in the rain sensor, the w ind­
shie ld wiper lever functions are sti ll available.
Have the light/rain sensor checked as soon as
possible at an authorized Audi dealer.
; Audi magnetic ride
App lies to vehicles: with Audi magnetic ride
The indicator light monitors vehicle damping .
The indicato r light B illum inates when the ig­
n it ion is switched o n as a funct ion check.
(j) Tips
If the ind icator lamp illum inates while you
are driving, there is a malfunct ion in the
veh icle damping. The chass is should be in­
spected immediately by an authorized
Audi dea ler .
:::/, Rear spoiler
The warning/indicator light monitors the
electrically retractable rear spoiler.
The warning/indicator light l'J has the fol­
l owing f un ctions:
- It comes on for about 3 seconds as a func­
t ion check when the ignition is sw itched on .
- It comes on if there is a malfunction in the
electrically retractable rear spoiler .

¢ Q Turn signals
The indicator light blinks when you use either
turn signal .
Whenever you use the left II or the r ight II
turn s ignal, the indica tor light blinks. When
you use the emergency flasher, both indicator lights flash .
If one of the turn signa l light bulbs burn out,
the turn signal will blink twice as fast as nor­
mal.

The Driver information display inside the in ­
strument cluster provides you, the driver ,
with important information.

Some f unctions and vehicle components are
scanned for the ir operating status when you
s witch the ign ition on and whi le you are driv­
ing . Malfunctions or required service proce­
dures are s ignaled audibly and ind icated by
red and yellow illuminated symbols and re­
minders in t he d isplay.

- Neve r rely ex clusively o n the o utside
tempera ture display to de termine if a
road surface is icy or not. Keep in m ind
that road surfaces, espec ially br idges
and overpasses, co uld be ice covered and
slippery even at an outside temperature

-Always remember, even if the "snow­
f lake" symbo l (ice warning) does not ap­
pear in the d isplay, black ice co uld be on
the road .
- Always red uce your speed and d rive with
specia l care in cold weathe r cond itions

- If the vehicle is stationary, or if you are
dr iving at a very low speed , the tempera­
t u re shown in the d isplay might be
slightly h igher than the actua l o utside
tempe rature. Thi s is caused by the heat
be ing rad iated from t he engine.
- On ve hicles with Audi Nav igation sys­
tem*, the disp lays may differ from their
normal appe aran ce during navig ation.

Service interval display
The service interval display reminds you when
your next service is due.

The schedule for the next oil change or inspec­
tion is calculated automatically and displayed
accordingly. The display works in two stages :
Service reminder
30 days before the next service is due, a serv­
ice reminder appears in the display when you
turn on the ignition.
After about
S seconds the display switches
back to normal. The distance and time re­
maining are updated each time the ignition is
turned on until the date due for service is reached .
Service due
When the due date for service is reached , the
message
Service due! appears in the instru­
ment cluster immediately after you turn on
the ignition. Additionally, a warning tone
sounds . After about
S seconds the display
switches back to normal.
Calling up the service schedules
If or when an oil change or inspection is due,
can be shown in the instrument cluster by se­
lecting the service interval display. Select
Check > Service > Oil change or Service by us­
ing the
! RESET I button and the rocker switch

Resetting the service interval display
Your authorized Audi dealer will reset the cor­
responding service schedule after performing the appropr
iate service on your vehicle. You
also have the possibility to reset the oil
change schedule after hav ing performed an
oil change according to Aud i specifications.
- Switch the ignition on.
- Pull the knob¢ fig. 19. The message.

If yo u disconnect the battery terminals, no
ca lculations can be made for the service
interval display during this time and no
service reminder will appear. Remember
that observing the proper service intervals
is vitally important to extending the life of
your vehicle, particularly the engine, and maintaining its value . Even if the mileage
driven is low, the maximum period of one
year from one service to the next must not
be exceeded.
(D Tips
-Do not reset the display between oil
changes, otherwise the display will be in­
correct.
- The information in the Service Reminder
remains stored even when the vehicle
bat tery is disconnec ted.

timing
• To disp lay an intermediate time, press the
l ower section of the wiper switch @. The in­
termediate time appears in line
CD and is
marked with*.
• To pause timing, press the lower section of
the wiper switch @again.
• To continue timing, press the upper section
of the w iper switch @.
If t iming is paused, you can conti nue it later
even if you switch the ign it ion off.
Evaluating times and continuing or
resetting timing

You can evaluate the fastest, slowest and
average lap times.

proximately 2 seconds. The display shows
the fastest lap"+", the slowest lap"-" and
the average lap time "0".
• To continue t iming for addit ional laps, press
the wiper switch @.
• To reset th e timer to zero, press and hold
the
I RESET I button again for approximate ly
2 seconds.
• To switch the lap timer off completely,
press the
I RESET I button briefly.
@ Tips
-Saved lap times cannot be individually
deleted from the total results.
- The saved lap timer values will not be
l ost after turning the ignit ion off .
On-Board Diagnostic
system (OBD)
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) &ii in
the instrument cluster is part of the On-Board
Diagnostic (OBD II) system.
T he warning/indicator light ill uminates when
the ignition is switched on and goes out after
the engine starts and the id le has stabilized.
This indicates that the MIL is working proper­
ly.
If the light does not go out after the engine
is started, or illuminates while you are driv ­
ing, a malfunction may exist in the engine sys­
tem .
If the light illuminates, the catalytic con­
verter could be damaged .
Continue driving
with reduced power (avoid­
ing sustained high speeds and/or rapid accel­
erations) and have the condition corrected.
Contact your authorized Audi dealer.
If the light il luminates, the electronic speed
limiter may also be malfunctioning. For more

An improperly closed fuel filler cap may also
cause the MIL light to illuminate
