{CAUTION:
Incorrect wheel nuts or improperly tightened
wheel nuts can cause the wheel to come loose
and even come off. This could lead to an
accident. Be sure to use the correct wheel
nuts. If you have to replace them, be sure to
get new GM original equipment wheel nuts.
Stop somewhere as soon as you can and have
the nuts tightened with a torque wrench to the
proper torque speci cation. SeeCapacities
and Specifications on page 5-116for wheel nut
torque speci cation.
Notice:Improperly tightened wheel nuts can lead
to brake pulsation and rotor damage. To avoid
expensive brake repairs, evenly tighten the wheel
nuts in the proper sequence and to the proper
torque speci cation. SeeCapacities and
Specifications on page 5-116for the wheel nut
torque speci cation.15. Tighten the wheel nuts
rmly in a crisscross
sequence as shown.
Notice:Wheel covers will not t on your compact
spare. If you try to put a wheel cover on the compact
spare, you could damage the cover or the spare.
Do not try to put a wheel cover on your compact spare
tire. It will not t. Store the wheel cover in the trunk
until you have the at tire repaired or replaced.

Storing a Flat or Spare Tire and
Tools (STS Only)
{CAUTION:
Storing a jack, a tire, or other equipment in the
passenger compartment of the vehicle could
cause injury. In a sudden stop or collision,
loose equipment could strike someone. Store
all these in the proper place.
Full-Size Tire and Tools
After you have put the compact spare tire on your
vehicle, you will need to do the following to store the at
tire in your trunk.
1. Open the trunk. SeeTrunk on page 2-14.
2. Store the jack and wheel wrench in the jack
container in the trunk.
When storing the jack, in the container, it must be
raised until the screw end is ush with the edge
of the jack.
3. Store the at tire as far forward in the trunk as
possible.
The compact spare is for temporary use only. Replace
the compact spare tire with a full-size tire as soon
as you can.

Compact Spare Tire and Tools
Use the following diagram as a guide for storing the
compact spare tire and tools in the trunk:

B. Plastic Wing Nut
C. Retainer
D. Jack Container Package
(With Wheel Wrench

F. Foam Support
G. Bolt
H. Wheel Wrench
I. Jack
J. Jack Container1. Open the trunk. SeeTrunk on page 2-14.
2. Ensure the foam support (F) is in place in the
trunk area.
3. Reinstall the compact spare tire (E) with the valve
stem up, and line up the wheel nut hole with the
bolt (G) or wheel center and place on the
compartment oor.
4. Insert the jack container (J) with wheel wrench (H)
and jack (I) into the center of the compact spare
tire making sure to line up the wheel nut hole with
the bolt (G) on the compartment oor.
5. Secure the tire and wheel with the retainer (C) and
wing nut (B).
6. Reinstall the compact spare tire cover (A).
