Run-Flat Tires (STS-V)
If your vehicle has run-at tires, there is no spare tire
and no tire changing equipment. Your vehicle also has a
Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS) which will alert
you if there is a loss of tire pressure in any of the tires.

{CAUTION:
When the low tire warning light is displayed on
the instrument panel cluster, your vehicle’s
handling capabilities will be reduced during
severe maneuvers. If you drive too fast, you
could lose control of your vehicle. You or
others could be injured. Do not drive over
55 mph (90 km/h) when the low tire warning
light is displayed. Drive cautiously and check
your tire pressures as soon as you can.If a tire goes at, you will not need to stop on the side
of the road to change the tire. You can just keep on
driving. The vehicle’s run-at tires can operate effectively
with no air pressure for up to 50 miles (80 km) at
speeds up to 55 mph (90 km/h). The shorter the
distance you drive and the slower the speed, the greater
the chance that the tire will not have to be replaced.
When a tire is lled with air, it provides a cushion
between the road and the wheel. Because you will not
have this cushion when driving on a deated run-at
tire, try to avoid potholes that could damage your wheel
and require replacement of it.
Some road hazards can damage a tire beyond repair.
This damage could occur even before you have
driven on the tire in a deated condition. When a tire
has been damaged, or if you have driven any distance
on a deated run-at tire, check with an authorized
run-at tire service center, as soon as possible,
to determine whether the tire can be repaired or should
be replaced. To maintain your vehicle’s run-at
feature, all replacement tires must be self-supporting
tires. To locate the nearest GM or authorized run-at
servicing facility, call Roadside Service. SeeRoadside

The Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS) operates on
a radio frequency and complies with RSS-210 of
Industry and Science Canada. Operation is subject to
the following two conditions:
1. This device may not cause interference.
2. This device must accept any interference received,
including interference that may cause undesired
operation of the device.
Changes or modications to this system by other than
an authorized service facility could void authorization to
use this equipment.
Tire Pressure Monitor Operation
The Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS) is designed
to warn the driver when a low tire pressure condition
exists. TPMS sensors are mounted onto each tire
and wheel assembly, excluding the spare tire and wheel
assembly. The TPMS sensors monitor the air pressure
in the vehicle’s tires and transmits the tire pressure
readings to a receiver located in the vehicle.When a low tire pressure
condition is detected, the
TPMS illuminates the
low tire pressure warning
light located on the
instrument panel cluster.
At the same time a message to check the pressure in a
specic tire appears on the Driver Information Center
(DIC) display. The low tire pressure warning light
and the DIC warning message come on at each ignition
cycle until the tires are inated to the correct ination
pressure. Using the DIC, tire pressure levels can
be viewed by the driver. For additional information and

The low tire pressure warning light may come on in cool
weather when the vehicle is rst started, and then
turn off as you start to drive. This could be an early
indicator that the air pressure in the tire(s) are getting
low and need to be inated to the proper pressure.
A Tire and Loading Information label, attached to your
vehicle, shows the size of your vehicle’s original
equipment tires and the correct ination pressure for your
vehicle’s tires when they are cold. SeeLoading Your
Vehicle on page 4-26for an example of the Tire and
Loading Information label and its location on your vehicle.

Your vehicle’s TPMS can warn you about a low tire
pressure condition but it does not replace normal
tire maintenance. SeeTire Inspection and Rotation on
page 5-73andTires on page 5-57.
Your vehicle, when new, may have included a
factory-installed Tire Inator Kit. This kit uses a GM
approved liquid tire sealant. SeeTire Sealant and
Compressor Kit on page 5-87.
Notice:Using non-approved tire sealants could
damage the Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS)
sensors. TPMS sensor damage caused by using
an incorrect tire sealant is not covered by the
vehicle warranty. Always use the GM approved tire
sealant available through your dealer/retailer.TPMS Malfunction Light and Message
The TPMS will not function properly if one or more of the
TPMS sensors are missing or inoperable. When the
system detects a malfunction, the low tire warning light
ashes for about one minute and then stays on for
the remainder of the ignition cycle. A DIC warning
message is also displayed. The low tire warning light
and DIC warning message come on at each ignition
cycle until the problem is corrected. Some of the
conditions that can cause the malfunction light and
DIC message to come on are:
One of the road tires has been replaced with the
spare tire. The spare tire does not have a TPMS
sensor. The DIC message should go off once
you re-install the road tire containing the TPMS
sensor.
The TPMS sensor matching process was started
but not completed or not completed successfully
after rotating the vehicle’s tires. The DIC message
and TPMS malfunction light should go off once
the TPMS sensor matching process is performed
successfully. See “TPMS Sensor Matching Process”
later in this section.

Run-Flat Tires (STS-V)
If your vehicle has run-at tires, there is no spare tire

operate effectively with no air pressure for a limited
distance and speed. These tires perform so well without
any air pressure that a Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM)
is used to alert you when there is a low tire condition.

the instrument panel cluster, your vehicle’s

severe maneuvers. If you drive too fast, you
could lose control of your vehicle. You or
others could be injured. Do not drive over

your tire pressures as soon as you can.

service a run-at tire. If these special tools and
procedures are not used you or others could
be injured and your vehicle could be damaged.
Always be sure the proper tools and
procedures, as described in the service
manual, are used.

Tire Sealant and Compressor Kit
Your vehicle has a tire sealant and compressor kit that
is capable of temporarily sealing small punctures in
the tread. There is no jack or spare tire. The kit inates
the tire with liquid sealant and air. After the tire is
inated to the recommended ination pressure, see
Inflation - Tire Pressure on page 5-66for more
information, the vehicle must be driven for ve miles to
distribute the sealant in the tire and seal the puncture.
After driving ve miles the tire pressure must be
rechecked and adjusted as needed. See Using the Tire
Sealant and Compressor Kit later in this section.

3. Reinstall the compact spare tire (E) making sure to
line up the wheel center hole with the bolt (G) and
place on the compartment oor.
4. Insert the jack container (D) with wheel wrench and
jack into the center of the compact spare tire
making sure to line up the wheel nut hole with the
bolt (G) on the compartment oor.
5. Secure the tire and wheel with the retainer (C) and
wing nut (B).
6. Reinstall the compact spare tire cover (A).
Compact Spare Tire
Although the compact spare tire was fully inated when
the vehicle was new, it can lose air after a time.
Check the ination pressure regularly. It should be
60 psi (420 kPa).
After installing the compact spare on the vehicle, you
should stop as soon as possible and make sure the spare
tire is correctly inated. The compact spare is made to
perform well at speeds up to 65 mph (105 km/h) for
distances up to 3,000 miles (5 000 km). The tire ination
monitor system must be calibrated after installing or
removing the compact spare. SeeTire Pressure Monitor
System on page 5-68. The system may not work correctly
when the compact spare is installed on the vehicle.It’s best to replace the spare with a full-size tire as soon
as soon as possible. The spare will last longer and be in
good shape if needed it again.
If your vehicle has All Wheel Drive (AWD) it could also
have an StabiliTrak
®3. SeeStabiliTrak®System on
page 4-8for more information. If the compact spare tire
is installed on a vehicle with the StabiliTrak
®3
System, the vehicle operates in the Stability Secure
Mode. The STABILITY SECURE MODE message
displays on the Driver Information Center (DIC). See
DIC Warnings and Messages on page 3-80for
more information.
Notice:When the compact spare is installed, do
not take your vehicle through an automatic car wash
with guide rails. The compact spare can get
caught on the rails. That can damage the tire and
wheel, and maybe other parts of your vehicle.
Do not use the compact spare on other vehicles.
And do not mix the compact spare tire or wheel with
other wheels or tires. They will not t. Keep the
spare tire and its wheel together.
Notice:Tire chains will not t your compact spare.
Using them can damage your vehicle and can
damage the chains too. Do not use tire chains on
your compact spare.
