Display
The climate control status
display appears briefly when
the climate control buttons on
the center stack are adjusted.
The air delivery mode can be
adjusted on the climate
control status display.
Automatic Operation
The system automatically
controls the fan speed, air
delivery, air conditioning, and
recirculation in order to heat
or cool the vehicle to the
desired temperature:
When AUTO is lit, all four
functions operate
automatically. Each function
can also be manually set and
the setting is displayed.
Functions not manually set will
continue to be automatically
controlled, even if the AUTO
indicator is not lit.
For automatic operation:

Air Delivery Mode Control :
When the climate information
is displayed, touch the desired
air delivery mode on the
climate control display to
change the direction of the
airflow. The selected air
delivery mode button is lit.
Touching any of the air
delivery buttons cancels
automatic air delivery control
and the direction of the airflow
can be controlled manually.
Press AUTO to return to
automatic operation.
To change the current mode,
select one of the following:
Y:Air is directed to the
instrument panel outlets.
\: Air is divided between the
instrument panel outlets and
the floor outlets.
[: Air is directed to the floor
outlets.
-: Clears the windows of fog
or moisture. Air is directed to
the windshield and floor
outlets.
0: Clears the windshield of
fog or frost more quickly. Air is
directed to the windshield.
Press
0to turn on or off.
Changing the air delivery
mode also turns the
defrost off.
A/C : Touch A/C Mode on the
climate control display to turn
the automatic air conditioning
on or off. If the fan is turned
off or the outside temperature
falls below freezing, the air
conditioner will not run.
Press AUTO to return to
automatic operation and the
air conditioner runs as needed.
@: Press to alternate
between recirculating air
inside the vehicle or pulling in
outside air. The indicator light
on the button is lit when
recirculation mode is active.
This helps to quickly cool the air inside the vehicle or reduce
the outside air and odors that
might enter.
Pressing this control cancels
automatic recirculation. Press
AUTO to return to automatic
operation; recirculation runs
automatically as needed.
Manual recirculation mode is
not recommended when in
Defrost or Defog modes.
Auto Defog :
The climate
control system may have a
sensor to automatically detect
high humidity inside the
vehicle. When high humidity is
detected, the climate control
system may adjust to outside
air supply and turn on the air
conditioner. If the climate
control system does not
detect possible window
fogging, it returns to normal
operation. To turn Auto Defog
off or on, select Settings >
Climate and Air Quality > Auto
Defog > Select ON or OFF.

.Clear snow off the hood to
improve visibility and help
decrease moisture drawn
into the vehicle.
.Use of non-GM approved
hood deflectors can
adversely affect the
performance of the system.
.Keep the path under all
seats clear of objects to help
circulate the air inside the
vehicle more effectively.
.If fogging reoccurs while in
vent or bi-level modes with
mild temperature
throughout the vehicle, turn
on the air conditioner to
reduce windshield fogging.
Maintenance
Passenger
Compartment Air
Filter
The filter reduces dust, pollen,
and other airborne irritants
from outside air that is pulled
into the vehicle. The filtershould be replaced as part of
routine scheduled
maintenance. See
Maintenance Schedule
0454.
See your dealer regarding
replacement of the filter.
Service
All vehicles have a label
underhood that identifies the
refrigerant used in the vehicle.
The refrigerant system should
only be serviced by trained
and certified technicians. The
air conditioning evaporator
should never be repaired or
replaced by one from a
salvage vehicle. It should only
be replaced by a new
evaporator to ensure proper
and safe operation.
During service, all refrigerants
should be reclaimed with
proper equipment. Venting
refrigerants directly to the
atmosphere is harmful to the
environment and may also
create unsafe conditions based on inhalation,
combustion, frostbite, or other
health-based concerns.
The air conditioning system
requires periodic maintenance.
See Maintenance Schedule
0
454.

coolant surge tank until
the level reaches the mark
pointed to on the front of
the coolant surge tank.
5. Replace the pressure cap tightly.
6. Verify coolant level after the engine is shut off and
the coolant is cold.
If necessary, repeat
coolant fill procedure
Step 1–6.
Caution
If the pressure cap is not
tightly installed, coolant loss
and engine damage may
occur. Be sure the cap is
properly and tightly secured.
Automatic Coolant
Service Fill Instructions
(2.0L Engine Only)
If equipped, this feature
assists in filling and removing
air from the cooling system
after service of components
or when coolant is added after
being too low. To activate the fill and air
removal process:
1. With a cold system,
disconnect the vent line
from the port near the cap
on the surge tank. Add
coolant to the indicated
mark on the surge tank.
2. Reconnect the vent line to the surge tank and replace
the cap on the surge tank.
3. Connect the vehicle to a battery charger.
4. Put the vehicle in Service Mode. See Ignition
Positions 0257. 5. Turn off the air
conditioning.
6. Set the parking brake.
7. At the same time, press the accelerator and the
brake for automatic
transmission vehicles for
two seconds, then release.
At the end of the cycle, check
the coolant level in the surge
tank and add coolant, if it is
low. Turn off the vehicle, allow
the Engine Control Module
(ECM) to go to sleep, about
two minutes, and repeat
steps 3-7.
Listen for pump activation and
movement of the control
valves while watching the level
of the tank. If the tank
empties, turn the ignition off,
carefully remove the surge
tank cap, refill to the indicated
mark and repeat steps 3-6.
The fill and air removal
process will run for
approximately 10 minutes.

Vehicle Care 381
Engine Overheating
The vehicle has several
indicators to warn of the
engine overheating.
There is an engine coolant
temperature gauge on the
instrument cluster. See Engine
Coolant Temperature Gauge
0131. The vehicle may also
display a message on the
Driver Information
Center (DIC).
If the decision is made not to
lift the hood when this
warning appears, get service
help right away. See Roadside
Assistance Program 0470.
If the decision is made to lift
the hood, make sure the
vehicle is parked on a level
surface. Then check to see if
the engine cooling fan is
running. If the engine is
overheating, the fan should be
running. If it is not, do not
continue to run the engine.
Have the vehicle serviced.
Caution
Do not run the engine if
there is a leak in the engine
cooling system. This can
cause a loss of all coolant
and can damage the system
and vehicle. Have any leaks
fixed right away.
If Steam Is Coming from
the Engine Compartment
{Warning
Steam and scalding liquids
from a hot cooling system
are under pressure. Turning
the pressure cap, even a
little, can cause them to
come out at high speed and
you could be burned. Never
turn the cap when the
cooling system, including the
pressure cap, is hot. Wait for
the cooling system and
pressure cap to cool.
If No Steam Is Coming
from the Engine
Compartment
If an engine overheat warning
is displayed but no steam can
be seen or heard, the problem
may not be too serious.
Sometimes the engine can get
a little too hot when the
vehicle:
.Climbs a long hill on a
hot day.
.Stops after high-speed
driving.
.Idles for long periods in
traffic.
If the overheat warning is
displayed with no sign of
steam: 1. Turn the air conditioning off.
2. Turn the heater on to the highest temperature and
to the highest fan speed.
Open the windows as
necessary.
