Lockout Protection
This feature helps prevent locking your key in the car.
The driver’s door can only be locked with the door
closed. From the outside of the vehicle, close the
driver’s door and lock it using the key or the remote
keyless entry transmitter.
This feature cannot guarantee that you will never be
locked out of your vehicle. Always remember to
take your key with you.
Trunk
To unlock the trunk from the outside, use the key or the
remote keyless entry transmitter.
When closing the trunk, close from the center to ensure
it fully latches.
{CAUTION:
It can be dangerous to drive with the trunk
lid open because carbon monoxide (CO) gas
can come into your vehicle. You cannot see or
smell CO. It can cause unconsciousness and
even death. If you must drive with the trunk
lid open or if electrical wiring or other cable
connections must pass through the seal
between the body and the trunk lid:
Make sure all other windows are shut.
Turn the fan on your heating or cooling
system to its highest speed and select
the control setting that will force outside
air into your vehicle. See Climate Control
System.
If you have air outlets on or under the
instrument panel, open them all the way.
SeeEngine Exhaust on page 2-29.

Safety Belt Reminder Light
The safety belt light
will come on and stay
on until the driver’s
safety belt is buckled.
If the driver’s belt is already buckled, the light will
not come on.
Safety Belt Reminder Tone
If your vehicle has this feature, a tone will sound
for several seconds when the ignition is turned to
ON to remind people to fasten their safety belts.
The tone will not sound if the driver’s safety belt
is already buckled.
Airbag Readiness Light
There is an airbag readiness light on the instrument
panel, which shows the airbag symbol. The system
checks the airbag’s electrical system for malfunctions.
The light tells you if there is an electrical problem.
The system check includes the airbag sensors, the
airbag modules, the wiring and the diagnostic module.
For more information on the airbag system, see
Airbag System on page 1-50.
This light will come on for
about seven seconds
when you start your
vehicle. Then the light
should go out. This means
the system is ready.
If the airbag readiness light stays on after you star
the vehicle or comes on when you are driving, your
airbag system may not work properly. Have your
vehicle serviced right away.
