If towing a trailer, reduce theamount of cargo being hauled assoon as possible.
If the light continues to flash, find asafe place to park. Turn the vehicleoff and wait at least 10 secondsbefore restarting the engine. If thelight is still flashing, follow theprevious guidelines and see yourdealer for service as soon aspossible.
If the light is on steady :Amalfunction has been detected.Diagnosis and service may berequired.
Check the following:
.Alooseormissingfuelcapmaycause the light to come on. SeeFilling the Tank0200.Afewdriving trips with the capproperly installed may turn thelight off.
.Poor fuel quality can causeinefficient engine operation andpoor driveability, which may goaway once the engine is warmedup. If this occurs, change thefuel brand. It may require at
least one full tank of the properfuel to turn the light off. SeeFuel0198.
If the light remains on, see yourdealer.
Emissions Inspection and
Maintenance Programs
If the vehicle requires an EmissionsInspection/Maintenance test, thetest equipment will likely connect tothe vehicle's Data LinkConnector (DLC).
The DLC is under the instrumentpanel to the left of the steeringwheel. Connecting devices that arenot used to perform an EmissionsInspection/Maintenance test or toservice the vehicle may affectvehicle operation. SeeAdd-OnElectrical Equipment0212.Seeyour dealer if assistance is needed.
The vehicle may not passinspection if:
.The light is on when the engineis running.
.The light does not come onwhen the ignition is in ON/RUNwhile the engine is off.
.Critical emission control systemshave not been completelydiagnosed. If this happens, thevehicle would not be ready forinspection and might requireseveral days of routine drivingbefore the system is ready forinspection. This can happen ifthe 12-volt battery has recentlybeen replaced or run down, or ifthe vehicle has been recentlyserviced.
See your dealer if the vehicle willnot pass or cannot be made readyfor the test.

Information Displays
Driver Information
Center (DIC)
This vehicle has a DIC.
All messages will appear in the DICdisplay at the bottom of theinstrument cluster.
The DIC comes on when the ignitionis on. After a short delay, the DICwill display the information that waslast displayed before the enginewas turned off.
The DIC displays trip, fuel, andvehicle system information, andwarning messages if a systemproblem is detected.
If the vehicle has these features, theDIC also displays the compassdirection and the outside airtemperature when viewing the tripand fuel information. The compassdirection appears on the top rightcorner of the DIC display. Theoutside air temperatureautomatically appears in the bottomright corner of the DIC display.
If there is a problem with the systemthat controls the temperaturedisplay, the numbers will bereplaced with dashes. If this occurs,have the vehicle serviced by yourdealer.
If the vehicle has a diesel engine,see the Duramax dieselsupplement.
DIC Operation and Displays
The DIC has different displayswhich can be accessed by pressingthe DIC buttons on the instrumentpanel, next to the instrument cluster.
DIC Buttons
The buttons are the trip/fuel, vehicleinformation, customization, and set/reset buttons. The button functionsare detailed in the following pages.
3:Press this button to displaythe odometer, trip odometers, fuelrange, average economy, fuel used,timer, average speed, and digitaltachometer.
T:Press this button to display theoil life, rear park assist, units, tirepressure readings for vehicles withthe Tire Pressure MonitorSystem (TPMS), engine hours, TirePressure Monitor System (TPMS)programming for vehicles with theTPMS and without a RemoteKeyless Entry (RKE) transmitter, andcompass zone and compasscalibration on vehicles with thisfeature.
U:Press this button to customizethe feature settings on the vehicle.SeeVehicle Personalization011 9for more information.
V:Press this button to set or resetcertain functions and to turn off oracknowledge messages on the DIC.

Exterior Lamp Controls
The exterior lamp control is on theinstrument panel to the left of thesteering wheel.
There are four positions:
O:Briefly turn the control to thisposition to turn the automaticheadlamps and Daytime RunningLamps (DRL) off or back on.
For vehicles first sold in Canada,the off position only works forvehicles that are shifted into theP(Park) position.
AUTO :Automatically turns theexterior lamps on and off,depending on outside lighting.
;:Turns on the parking lampsincluding all lamps, except theheadlamps.
2:Turns on the headlampstogether with the parking lamps andinstrument panel lights.
If the headlamps are turned onwhile the vehicle is on, theheadlamps turn off automatically10 minutes after the ignition isturned off. If the headlamps areturned on while the vehicle is off,the headlamps will continue to stayon. To prevent the battery frombeing drained, turn the control to theOposition.
Awarningchimesoundsifthedriverdoor is opened while the ignitionswitch is off and the headlampsare on.
To c h a n g e t h e h e a d l a m p s f r o m l o wbeam to high beam, pull the turnsignal lever all the way toward you.Then release it.

Exterior Lamps Off
Reminder
If a door is open, a reminder chimesounds when the headlamps orparking lamps are manually turnedon and the key is out of the ignition.To t u r n o f f t h e c h i m e , t u r n t h e
headlamp switch toOor AUTO and
then back on, or close and re⇣openthe door. In the auto mode, theheadlamps turn off once the ignitionis in LOCK/OFF or may remain onuntil the headlamp delay ends,if enabled in the Driver InformationCenter (DIC). See“Exit Lighting”underVehiclePersonalization011 9.
Headlamp High/
Low-Beam Changer
23(Headlamp High/Low-BeamChanger) :Pull the turn signal leverall the way toward you to changethe headlamps from low to highbeam. Then release it.
This instrument cluster light comeson when the high-beam headlampsare on.
Flash-to-Pass
This feature is used to signal to thevehicle ahead that you wantto pass.
If the headlamps are off or in thelow⇣beam position, pull the turnsignal lever toward you tomomentarily switch to high beams.
Release the lever to turn thehigh-beam headlamps off.
Daytime Running
Lamps (DRL)
DRL can make it easier for others tosee the front of the vehicle duringthe day. Fully functional DRL arerequired on all vehicles first sold inCanada.
The DRL system comes on indaylight when the followingconditions are met:
.The ignition is on.
.The exterior lamp control is inthe AUTO position.
.The shift lever is not in P (Park).
.The light sensor determines it isdaytime.
When the DRL are on, the taillamps,sidemarker, instrument panel lights,and other lamps will not be on.
The automatic headlamp systemautomatically switches from DRL tothe headlamps depending on thedarkness of the surroundings.

Automatic Headlamp
System
When it is dark enough outside andthe headlamp switch is in AUTO,the automatic headlamp systemturns on the headlamps, along withthe taillamps, sidemarker lamps,parking lamps, and the instrumentpanel lights. The radio lights willalso be dim.
To t u r n o f f t h e a u t o m a t i c h e a d l a m psystem, turn the exterior lampcontrol to the off position and thenrelease. For vehicles first sold inCanada, the transmission must bein the P (Park) position, before theautomatic headlamp system can beturned off.
The vehicle has a light sensor onthe top of the instrument panel. Donot cover the sensor; otherwise thesystem will come on whenever theignition is on.
The system may also turn on theheadlamps when driving through aparking garage or tunnel.
There is a delay in the transitionbetween the daytime and nighttimeoperation of the Daytime RunningLamps (DRL) and the automaticheadlamp system so that drivingunder bridges or bright overheadstreet lights does not affect thesystem. The DRL and automaticheadlamp system are only affectedwhen the light sensor sees achange in lighting lasting longerthan the delay.
If the vehicle is started in a darkgarage, the automatic headlampsystem comes on immediately.Once the vehicle leaves the garage,it takes approximately 30 secondsfor the automatic headlamp systemto change to DRL if it is lightoutside. During that delay, theinstrument cluster may not be as
bright as usual. Make sure theinstrument panel brightness controlis in the full bright position. SeeInstrument Panel IlluminationControl0129.
Lights On with Wipers
If the windshield wipers areactivated in daylight with the engineon, and the exterior lamp control isin AUTO, the headlamps, parkinglamps, and other exterior lampscome on. The transition time for thelamps coming on varies based onwiper speed. When the wipers arenot operating, these lamps turn off.

Illumination Control
The knob for this feature is to theleft of the steering column.
D:Push the knob to extend andthen turn clockwise orcounterclockwise to brighten or dimthe instrument panel lights and theradio display. This only works if theheadlamps or parking lamps are on.
Dome Lamps
The dome lamps come on when anydoor is opened. They turn off afterall the doors are closed.
The instrument panel brightness

clockwise to the farthest position. Inthis position, the dome lampsremain on whether a door is openedor closed.
Dome Lamp Override
TheEDOME OFF button is above
the instrument panelbrightness knob.
The dome lamp override sets thedome lamps to remain off or comeon automatically when a door isopened.
EDOME OFF :Press this buttonin and the dome lamps remain offwhen a door is opened. Press thebutton again to return it to theextended position so that the domelamps come on when a door isopened.

SRCE :If equipped, press to listento the radio when a portable audiodevice is playing. The portableaudio device continues playing.

Radios that have a USB port canplay .mp3 and .wma files that arestored on a USB storage device aswell as AAC files that are stored onan iPod.

Connecting a USB Storage
Device or iPod
The USB port can be used tocontrol an iPod or a USB storagedevice.
To c o n n e c t a U S B s t o r a g e d e v i c e ,connect the device to the USB porton the instrument panel.
To c o n n e c t a n i P o d , c o n n e c t o n eend of the USB cable that camewith the iPod to the iPod’sdockconnector and connect the otherend to the USB port on theinstrument panel. If the vehicle is onand the USB connection works,“OKto disconnect”and a GM logo mayappear on the iPod, and iPodappears on the radio display. TheiPod music appears on the radiodisplay and begins playing.
The iPod charges while it isconnected to the vehicle if thevehicle is in the ACC/ACCESSORYor ON/RUN position. When thevehicle is turned off, the iPod
automatically powers off and will notcharge or draw power from thevehicle's battery.
If you have an older iPod model thatis not supported, it can still be usedby connecting it to the auxiliaryinput jack using a standard 3.5 mm(1/8 in) stereo cable. See“Using theAuxiliary Input Jack”previously inthis section.
Using the Radio to Control a
USB Storage Device or iPod
The radio can control a USBstorage device or an iPod using theradio buttons and knobs, anddisplay song information on theradio display.
f:Turn to select files.
©SEEK :Press to go to the start ofthe track, if more than 10 secondshave played. Press and hold orpress multiple times to continuemoving backward through tracks.
¨SEEK :Press to go to the nexttrack. Press and hold or pressmultiple times to continue movingforward through tracks.
sREV :Press and hold to reverseplayback quickly. Sound is heard at
areducedvolume.ReleasesREV
to resume playing. The elapsed timeof the file displays.
\FWD :Press and hold toadvance playback quickly. Sound isheard at a reduced volume. Release\FWD to resume playing. Theelapsed time of the file displays.
4:Press to display additionalinformation about the selected track.

The five softkeys below the radiodisplay are used to control thefunctions listed below.

):Air is divided between theinstrument panel and floor outlets,with some air directed toward thewindshield.
6:Air is directed to the flooroutlets with some air directed to thewindshield and side windows.
-:This mode clears the windowsof fog or moisture. Outside air isdirected to the floor and defrosteroutlets. Adjust the temperature knobfor warmer or cooler air. The airconditioning compressor might turnon in this setting to dehumidifythe air.
1:This mode clears thewindshield of fog or frost morequickly. Air is directed to thewindshield, with some to the flooroutlets and front side windows. Theair conditioning compressor mightturn on in this setting to dehumidifythe air.
Do not drive the vehicle until all thewindows are clear.
Vehicles with Air Conditioning

On hot days, open the windows tolet hot inside air escape; then closethem. This helps to reduce the timeneeded for the vehicle to cool downand the system operates moreefficiently.
#:Cools and dehumidifies the airinside of the vehicle.
V:Cools the air inside the vehiclefaster, by recirculating the inside air.
Rear Window Defogger
If equipped with a rear windowdefogger, a warming grid is used toremove fog or frost from the rearwindow.
1:Press to turn the rear windowdefogger on or off. An indicator lighton the button comes on to show thatthe rear window defogger is on.
